Streaming is hard, especially when none of your community is your friend.
I do not support b a r e t t a
i do not as well

Don't read my name✓%✓¢
that’s why i love my friends always have one homie on the stream all the time
"avoid eating on camera"
meanwhile hasan eats for 5 hours straight
Hasan is like the anti-streamer. They also say not to take bathroom breaks, but Hasan takes a bathroom break like every 2 hours, even if he's in the middle of something. "Here, watch this video chat, I gotta go to the can."
I love Hasan but that man is actually never not eating. I have yet to tune into a stream while he’s not talking with his mouth full but that’s our himbo
Seriously i ain't even a Hasan viewer but everytime i click on his stream or watch a vod he is eating the whole time
Honestly he’s massive, and I’m pretty sure the guy works out. Makes sense he’s always eating, that shit gives you an appetite.
roll the clip of XQC eating Pasta sauce with grated cheese on top

I love the pfp dude
Tbh id read it
I would read that
"I would much rather work in the coal mines than stream another Subathon."
- Lefwig, 2021
was that a deliberate typo? if so, I don't get the joke
@@danielburgess5864 it's a portmanteau of Ludwig and Leffin, the Melee player, in reference to Leffin's tweet where he said smth like "I'd rather work a minimum wage/factory/coal mining job (can't remember which he said) rather than get paid to play Smash Ultimate"
Rough to see how much self-worth Lud is putting on Super Auto Pets wins considering how rare they are for him
I think that article is probably written from a journalist’s perspective, who don’t really understand how it works. They’re seeing it as Twitch being the company and streamers being the employees who make content, like a newsroom, but it’s really more like each individual stream is like an independent business, with Twitch as the platform they use to find an audience. You make what you can earn out of the stream. If you don't have a big audience, no matter how many hours you work or how good your equipment is, you don't make a living. It's your job to find an audience, and that is up to you and you alone. Idk i just don't think a journalist is gonna understand that.
like amazon
I think what Ludwig said about valuing yourself in more than one thing is great advice, and something I’m going to think about more often.
Speaking about my own opinion, in the past when people asked me what my goals were for the future, I've said I don't have any, and they've told me I must be depressed. It wasn't until much later I started to realize it had more to do with the fact that I just don't care about capitalism. I think a lot of people have been pressured to place value in their labor or achieving a nuclear family, but if we lived in a local village where we took care of each other and did what needed to be done until everyone's needs were met, there would be space for downtime and people who do nothing but watch the sky. I'm just saying, people do not have to have value to be allowed to live. I shouldn't have to work 40 hours just to afford a room and food. I'm allowed to only care about eating good food or decorating my apartment. I'm allowed to have no value and just exist. You'd never ask a dog what they're doing to add value. Why are humans any different? Why can't we just exist? Why do we have to struggle so hard just to be allowed to live? The answer of course is because too many other people decided that if you're not valuable enough, they're entitled to kick you out of your house. But just because they have mixed up values doesn't I have to destroy myself to fit them. You're allowed to just exist. You shouldn't have to do anything just to live. You can have things you enjoy working towards, but you don't need to be working on anything in order to be happy.
the hedonic treadmill is so hard to avoid because even if someone is okay with a drop in viewers there are other streamers and viewers that will mention it constantly and see viewership as a "bigger number better person" type of thing
I appreciate how you brought up the “hedonic treadmill” at 10:00
In the highs and lows of content creating, it’s really easy to get extremely happy and extremely sad over virtual clicks and views.
Everything you mentioned in this vid was dope to hear from your perspective, and that you’ve reached a level of consciousness with it, much love
Lud finally getting the recognition for his hard work
Streaming is an entrepreneurial business venture. Like anything, there are those who succeed, and those who don't get anywhere. It's no different than anything else, and is most similar to the commercial entertainment industry, being entertainment itself.
unlike entrepreneurial businesses however, streaming is not an inherently exploitative extension of the capitalistic nightmare world we live under.
@@weggygaygay9940 Ah, I see you're confusing capitalism with corporatism.
@@RAndrewNeal No, lmao.
@@weggygaygay9940 Says "Weggy GayGay"
I feel like every single hard thing about streaming can also be applied to like every single other job on the planet. While also having immense upsides such as your own hours. Working in your own home. Possibility of growing into making absurds amount of money. It's an unbelievably good job to have. Yea it has problems like literally every single job on earth. Unbelievably lucky to have it as a career regardless though.
And I don't think this diminishes the struggles streamers sometime face in there job. Everyone struggles and deserves for that to be heard and respected. But knowing you're lucky and not having to work a shitty job with shitty pay with no upsides can go a long way I think. If streaming was so shitty nobody would try to get there anymore. Because it's obviously extremely difficult to get big enough to make it a career.
Do you have any examples in particular?
just become a reaction streamer and dont clean your room ez
@@nuave I think that's up to the person to decide if its for them or not. I think you can certainly spend a regular job worth of hours and grow at a similar rate. You don't have to be xqc to grow. I think it's a work smarter not longer type of situation. It is extremely difficult though which I know. And I'd argue being able to be fired at any time in a shit ton of min wage jobs baring any fuck ups isn't fully stable but maybe it's a stretch. With obviously no upsides.
And I'd like to be clear this comment applies to streamers large enough to maintain a salary large enough for there area to live comfortably. Starting off streaming is an incredibly difficult thing to grow and shouldn't be considered a job because it literally can't be.
This article - feels - like it had a first draft that was a lot more neutral in tone and then, in editing, was made to be a hitpiece. Absolutely every part of this article is meant to slam Twitch, justified or not.
I mean, generally, people who read WSJ aren't gamers, so it only makes sense that the article "slams gamers" because that's the cool thing to do.
“Professional athletes say playing sports is hard work.”
You can't really compare streaming to sports
Horrible comparison, athletes actually do work
The stream effects are getting really good, who knew that he could be a floating head.
Right? Some editing trick, must be.
The only hard thing about streaming is getting there and stress coming from online hate and fear of losing viewers.
"Some say streaming makes you shorter" Lugwig arghen
Super Auto Pets has literally become one of my favorite games.
Being a twitch streamer literally has more prestige than any WSJ journalist.
Your words are actually tied to your face. Can't just get by as a faceless gossip
Which isn't much prestige to be fair lol
Depends on how you define prestige + It only matters when you're in the really low percentile of streamers.
twitch streamers dont have an ounce of prestige stop bullshitting lmao
now that i started watching lud on twitch i keep thinking that these are reuploads
there are some streamers out there who think streaming is harder than a manual labor job. like the only real hard thing streamers have to deal with is the mental part. doing anything for 12 hours a day is mentally taxing, but like you also get to pick that something day to day. other jobs are stuck with the same shit every day, and its physically and mentally taxing.
I used to be a cart retriever and I just immediately passed out every time I came home
This is truth. Streaming is easy not because it is impossible to find adversity in streaming but because that same adversity at any real job is almost always more difficult, damaging and harder to escape.
Streaming isn’t easy with small views but this article is making it sound like someone is running across Egypt in winter clothes during the day
You gotta wake up and🙏stare at a picture of Sykunno for 6 hours to relieve the pain from the past day🙏 and then go straight to streaming, go to sleep, repeat the next day. Life as a streamer must be hard, but the grind doesn’t stop, o7.
this was a really good video especially about the hedonic treadmill mindset, i use to be envious of my friends who would pop off with streaming and wanted their number to be a better person but now after taking a step back and realising its just a hobby to make people laugh and turning off viewer counts i feel that mindset finally left :D, plus i feel people are enjoying it more!
Only OGs remember when this video was called “how hard is streaming?”
And only the real real ogs remember when it was called “the new hardest job” or something like that
I really like this type of content from you, talking about the creators side of youtube/twitch.
The number of times I’ve seen the title and thumbnail changed is outstanding
I think Ludwig makes a pretty grave error in assuming most streamers are using twitch as their main source of income.
Sure, more streamers have the mindset of "maybe one day", but that vast majority of the 4 million he was talking about, making $0-$10k a year; they aren't homeless streaming under a bridge. They have a real job, and stream in their free time for fun. Probably seems like a foreign concept to someone who does put a lot of effort into it, and treat it like a business, but at it's core streaming is a leisure time activity, and most of those streamers are not unhappy in their situation.
I think saying "real job" is kind of rude, but I agree for the most part. A lot of smaller streamers on Twitch haven't, and likely won't, quit their day job. However, I think the article is specifically meant to talk about people in a position like Ludwig's and other streamers who DO have Twitch as a primary income, and so I'll have to disagree with it being an error.
@@DoctorOaks Real job as in he probably meant main job that isnt streaming. Anyone watching a streamer probably considers it a real job tbf
@@akshayreddy4071 I was meaning that calling a day job a real job is rude because it implies that streaming isn't a real job.
@@DoctorOaks Well, lets be honest. Its not.
@@Outwardpd If you're going to mark that argument, most "real jobs" aren't real jobs. Full time streaming is as much of a real job as that vast majority of jobs. Like was said in the video, it's a lot more than just playing games online 6 hours a day. There's all kinds of work behind the scenes that has to go into it.
I'm guessing you define "real job" as physical labor, which is a huge insult to like 90% of the work force. Most jobs aren't physical labor, but that doesn't mean they aren't hard in their own ways.
god, sometimes i forget just how smart ludwig really is. love this type of content. this was such a great and insightful commentary on the article.
Literally watched every video since 2 years. Still entertaining and thats good. Be proud of yourself lud.
I tried streaming once - I wouldn't describe it as a coal mine. Salt mine is more appropriate.
I really want to see *Ludwig* interviewed by a *major news network…* would be very informative to people on the outside (like boomers)… he’s *the man* for *the job* 😎
I agree, however we gotta realize that the news outlet would pick and choose the points he makes to fit their agenda and what they believe or what is the best headline
Is it just me or are some of your words bold? Not bold as in brave but like actual thicker than the other words.
@@apolloisnotashirt yeah i see it too and idk why he did that. you can bold your words by using a an asterisk in the beginning and then ending of a word/sentence

I'm loving this new content the past week!
I think it's really cool how Ludwig is going down this educational route in more videos
So this video just tells me why you do youtube on the side. Especially since your content is easily edited except for the fact that your editor has to go through your entire stream to get a YT video. BIIIG respect if you edit your own streams for your videos tho Lud, I have been looking into streaming
He used to edit but now he just doesn’t have the time so he has an editor
I really enjoy Ludwig’s videos. I don’t always get to watch his streams but he is a top notch content creator
I love videos like this. I don’t know why but it seems like Ludwig is the only one who actually has the balls to come out and talk about behind the scenes stuff when it comes to working in online entertainment
With 2 degrees I work 50+ hours a week and make less than $75k salary. I have a lot of student loan debt, stress, and anxiety. Regardless of how popular of a streamer you are, this sounds better.
Yeah, I thought the same thing. Two degrees and make less than 40k a year. I work two jobs so I can pay off my student loan debt sooner.
Ludwig is an absalute beast. Amazing editing too
Why is Ludwig’s head floating mid-air
journalists says typing words on a keyboard is hard work and requires a lot of skill
I had no idea streaming was so hard they might as well be down in shovelling coal
Lud! I love you talking about climbing! It's one of my favorite hobbies and it really does keep the blues away! One of the best communities there is.
I discovered you a month ago and it’s been fun here in this channel
I think people in offices could relate more than people who do labour intensive jobs. People in the office come back from work exausted, so imagine that, for more hours, and you have to properly concentrate for the whole time. I don't think anyone would compare it to being in the army or working on an oil field. It's two different types of hard work
This is a really insightful video Lud, thanks.
Truly an interesting and eye opening talk. Makes you think about how we are all the same in a way : all trying to figure out our own stuff.
Streaming is super easy. Anyone that says it's hard has never had a real job.
Charlie did say that it was a privilege to able to do this as a job
Reunion with highschool friend
Labor job: wtf man i work early got home late just to get minimum wage it's hard
Streamers: yeah man people call me short all the time i can relate
3% of my self value as a person comes from winning a game a day in CUE. Winning a game a day in CUE makes me happy.
how many god damn titles is this video gonna go through this is the 3rd time it pops in my recommended and every single on of them have had a different title or thumbnail
I like how ludwig changed his title 3 times
I heard Mr Beast does the same thing
almost all youtubers do this, especially the bigger ones. you have to try what works. even those big youtubers don't magically know which title/thumbnail works best.
Being Ludwig's editor is harder
I enjoy real life content like this, it helps put certain things into perspective but also helps educate me and others
This is why I like you, because you're just honest about this shit. Making this shit seem easy is a very diffcult task.
"I'm not the top 1% guys, I'm like the top 0.0001%" ludwig what
I mean like he literally is lmao
It’s because it’s misleading to say he’s top 1% when top 1% is something like 100 viewers. It’d be like Bill Gates saying he’s top 1% in wealth, like ok yeah technically true, but it becomes misleading when he’s sooooo far above the rest of the top 1%
i love supporting lud, he's like my best friend
Ludwig: "Trust me. Don't take my word for it"
I will never see how someone says streaming is a hard job
Gaming is easy, but turning an entire stream into content during the stream is pure genius
This. I can play a game in silence easy. Engaging with chat is an other thing.
Non believers are easily swayed into believing having a nine to five job means being behind a desk and wearing a suit and tie
This is an actually good video with no clickbait
This "Ludwig" is a real front line soldier
One is caught up playing the impassioned protagonist in one’s Subjective Narrative of Self 🎈
14:38 a W a day keeps my depression away ~ Ludwig Ahgren, 2021
And as we all know, journalism is also hard work, especially op-ed’s.
I saw this go through 3 different titles while it sat in my watched later playlist. Feels like i shouldn't have seen that
and thumbnails. don't forget to swap the thumb out w the title
Awesome analysis!
People that have been subbed to Lud before 100k are the GOATS.
Saw this live and went to refresh on the vid since it meant so much to me live, this really helped me rationalize how I stream and changed the way I think about it and it made me feel really valid, really great segment and great insight
Also I'm in the video a ton lmao 10:50 example
WAIT this has been me for the last year and a half with money in the bank and my job and my god the mental exhaustion is horrible
Lmao hearing that "if i can just get 30k consistently" made me crack up while im just here "if i can just hit 100 consistently i would be happy" 😂
This vid reminded me how smart Ludwig is, he does think a lot about the state of twitch and how to properly content create.
Ludwig your the best bro and I love the content keep it up and keep heading up
@ObserverMan agreed they are definitely scamming 😂
The yard. The Yard. THE YARD.
I got you lud.
streaming is difficult just like every other job, it has upsides and it has downsides, it's just how it is
Shoutout to the guy calling Lud a chameleon in chat at 8:57 😂
Good point to end on. lots of people don’t diversify their sources of happiness and fulfillment
I'm 1 minute into the video and I'd day the hardest part about streaming is growing and there's like a science to it
Twitch Theory Ludwig is the best Ludwig
For people in countries outside of Europe and the US, $ 37,000 is a LOT
I'm a small streamer - average around 30 consistently for the last year or so. For about a month I was hitting near 70 most days and it was really hard on me when I dropped back to normal, the hedonic treadmill is very real.
GRRRR STAYING HOME AND PLAYING VIDEO GAMES IS SO HARD ON ME 😡😡😡😡
We should all be thankful for Ludwig breaking his back making sure our annoying sibling stay in there rooms watching him instead of embarrassing our families.
when i stream its definitlely just for fun, but theres a lot of people i know that stream for the intent of getting famous and making money, i feel like its reallly important to think where your priorities are before starting something so uncertain for the sole goal of money.
"A W a day keeps the depression away" lol do what keeps you happy
Its insane how well Ludwig can walk lines. I know you said it would never happen, part of me wishes you'll do a 10 year subathon anniversary. Get the entire house wired up and expensed, then you can rent it out as a streamer house or maybe you make the whole thing into a sketch comedy rental house. Film episodes of the yard, make some tendies, crawl up into our cars beds with eachother.
Thank you for being brave enough to stream!❤❤❤❤
Had a laugh at him implying teachers - tenured or otherwise - make anywhere close to 75k
Years from now our children will tell stories of the millions suffering while working on gaming chairs
I cant get over how Lud is just a floating head
When so was 10 or something I played Luigis Mansion to the final level. If couldn’t move my thumbs because of how hard the last boss was, I had to leave it on pause, close the ds, and come back the next day
I think Diogenes genuinely created the best way to live in a society.
It’s entertainment baby just like gaming walkthroughs and groups back in the OG UA-cam days
Most streamers: if I go to pee, people will leave because there’s no content!
Micheal reeves: me peeing is content
Schlatt's cat streams more than Schlatt himself
Nuance. That's why I watch Ludwig
I think Ludwig picked up some cadence and speech patterns from northern lion lol
Shoulda rename the title to: "An English Major Roast an Article about Streaming"
I was kinda surprised that ludwig knew about the jungle by upton sinclair that was the most surprising thing to me lol
