- "Local Legends" explores the colorful and once-famous world of kao ka, or Hokkien-style Chinese opera. Second-generation kao ka performer Bee Hua looks back on how she got into performance art, and recalls how she surpassed the hardships and struggles she encountered in the past. Kao ka scholar Percy Ng discusses what the opera is all about, saying that it was considered as one of the major forms of entertainment for the Filipino-Chinese community in the old times. Ng then talks about the once-thriving kao ka culture in the country, and shares how the interest for it has declined over the years. Lastly, Hua details the impact and importance of performing kao ka in her life, and takes pride in her dedication for the performance art.

Kao Ka, a variant of Hokkien opera which is uniquely performed here in the Philippines and Quan Zhou prefecture in southern China.
Fujian province. I love Cantonese opera too. Jingju and Xian/Sichuan opera
Where can we watch it here? I'm a fan of some Chinese Operas. Maybe they can televize it to increase understanding?? There's still too much racism against the Filipino Chinese in Pinas and its depressing as someone who isn't Chinese but has experienced racism from others abroad as a Filipino.
I want to encourage filipino schools to have this study because Philippines is such a diverse country but what makes Philippines sad that they don’t recognize the minorities that’s why Philippines is part of the countries with a high rate of Homogeneous population because they didn’t recognize the minorities like other countries and also the culture that most of the mix filipinos are now fading so i wish that will recognize it’s Minorities and teach them their ways to still preserve their culture.

I wish that PH could work more in Preserving Culture, Tradition (the good ones) Architecture, Artifacts, Art forms and Heritage both from Ancient, Colonial, other groups in PH Post War, Modern etc. For me these are really important because it's all part of PH Identity(they are all so beautiful including this one!!!) , bec of so many events like colonization, war and like Martial law etc, many of these just suppress people and to the point it's out of their thoughts, and the fact sadly a lot Filipinos are so easily influenced and some feel we are inferior to other cultures doesn't help.
If PH Media (all kind of media) just make cool shows like telling us about PH History (in any time period) and also showing off culture, tradition and etc. And try to also adjust it to modern style(like let modern and original live together) honestly I feel it would be preserved
I hope they just don't disregard things like History, Fine and Performing arts and other stuff I said above.
Philippines can learn a lot from the Japanese, they're able to maintain culture and traditions whilst progressing as modern society.
I like how Fujian people migrated down in Southern luzon, and Sangleys migrated in Central luzon. I mean, Huangdom of Ma-i and the Huangdom of Pangasinan will give sense to my comment.
Sangley is just a synonym for Intsik/Insic. Almost all Chinese in the Philippines are from Fujian, kaya nga Hokkien tawag sa kanila.

Actually he is right, you may respect other people of those "faiths", but you cannot respect their false religions. If you say"I respect other religions" is the same as saying "I respect the devil" as other religions are false. She, as a Catholic is actually committing apostasy unaware of the situation, if she is a Catholic, she must stop with those God's, maybe replace it with prayers offered to God instead.
