I have been trying to make descent tortillas for years with mild success. I followed your recipe to the letter. I made them for my granddaughter who loves tortillas. She has been sick with Covid this passed week and not feel like eating that much. After I took them over to her, she texted me "Grandpa Ron these are so good. They're like melting in my mouth. I love your tortillas so much, thank you". Thank you Villa you made my day!
I love how you don’t just cook the food, but you “teach” as you cook, and you say “why” you are doing something. I love that! :). Thanks for being a great teacher. 👍🏻
When i watched my mom and grandma make tortillas i never knew they had so many ingredients they learned from their own mothers. We didnt have UA-cam back in the 70s and they barely had phones in the 50s. So these recipes have been passed down from generation to generation. Amazing how Mexican culture stays strong.
I made these today. Used 2 cups while wheat and 1 cup all purpose flour. Everything else same. They turned out greeeeaaaaat. Loved them. Everyone loved them. Thanks you so much from India.... It will be an asset to my cooking repertoire
I’m a 54 year old white man. I just followed you after watching your carne asada, rice and now, tortilla video. I will be trying all the recipes for Mexican food is my favorite. I could eat it everyday. Thank you for the videos!!
I searched all over town for a rolling pin. I only wanted home made tortillas from my mom. It was my bday. Doing it by hand like that is so genius and simple. We ended up using a glass cup. Now I’ll make tortillas for her when she visits. Your recipes have wowed my friends and family. You are awesome, thank you 🙏
I was born in Tijuana and got to see only my grandmother do it from scratch!! Love ❤️ your storytelling it takes me back to my childhood! Thank you!!🙏🏽
Thank you for this detailed accurate description of how to make tortillas. I had to use all butter but it worked just as well. I did not need them all so rather than make them i decided to freeze the balls and see if they will work next time i want some. They were excellent, i guess round will come with practice.
Jo-Ann Mason. Good to know you can use butter instead of shortening. I don't like to use shortening. I was going to try to make them with butter but wasn't sure how the tortillas would turn out. With your comment, now I can make them with confidence. Thank you.
Thank You! I always wanted to learn how to make tortillas! My husband lost his job August 6, and once again we are trying to tighten our financial belt. So this afternoon I made these, and although they aren't pretty (Mine aren't that is) they are delicious! My husband grabbed one hot from the pan, and declared they are MUCH BETTER than store bought! I'm a happy girl! Subbed!
My grandma always made homemade tortillas and chili. To this day it is my all time favorite meal. Unfortunately she passed away some time ago, and I have been trying to get close to duplicating her tortillas for years now. I have tried countless recipes and variations and it was never quite right. After trying this recipe and your method, I feel like I've finally accomplished that task. Thank you so much for the video. It's made me and my family very happy.
YOU are a great teacher! All the elements of top shelf instruction. The pace is just right, your voice is consistently firm but, gentle, even soothing to listen to! Your patience and understanding how even a simple recipe can still be daunting for some. You offer other techniques to do certain things which of course is definitely in the back of the minds of your audience. Therefore, you being cognizant this will happen and demonstrating alternative methods is gold. Thank you so much for such a great instruction on making tortillas! I’m going to utilize your methods cause I’ve always wanted to make them. I will now search for an authentic recipe to make deep flavor refried beans by you! I hope you have if not, i hope you read my comment and get inspired to do one! Thank you again!
Made a near perfect batch last night (to my standards). Used a mix of both your techniques and stretched them all by hand just before. Super satisfying, Thank You!
Tried many different recipes with some good results. Used this recipe and process twice, and both times produced EXCELLENT RESULTS! The best flour tortillas ever. I followed the measures and instructions on the video exactly. The only changes were: 1) I used Crisco butter flavored vegetable shortening along with the butter. 2) Weighed the flour, to ensure dough consistency use 13.5 ounces of flour (which is 3 cups @ 4.5 ounces per cup). 3) I let the dough balls rest for 2 hours - just because it's convenient. Very happy with this new go-to recipe, thank you!!
Oh girl thank you for your videos. Sharing your recipes. I remember as a young girl visiting my grandma in Mexico but she passed when I was 7 and my mom never kept up on the tradition of our culture. I've seen so many videos of how to make them and I love your recipe and video. Explain so much thank you.
I tried this with a little modification, I did not have vegetable shortening, but I did have Virgin Coconut oil. They turned out amazing! Thanks for the video. Ok worked some by hand and some with a rolling pin, either way worked great!
I love this video. My mom is estranged from my grandma, and so how to make tortillas was never passed down in my family. I hear all these cute stories about women cooking tortillas with their mom and grandmother and aunts and it makes me sad that I didn’t have that. I kept trying and failing to make tortillas on my own and felt each failure personally, feeling like my Mexican roots were just out of reach. I kept trying though, and I’m so glad to have found this video, for the first time i made delicious tortillas!
I have tried several tortilla recipes over the past month and not been able to produce anything good. This recipe is 100% the best. Amazing! Thanks for sharing
Thank you for this and all of the other great videos. It's awesome that you are helping to keep your culture and traditions alive during a time when these things tend to get lost. As a viewer I'm impressed that you seem to have thought of everything i.e. you include the recipe down below, a list of products you used, etc. My husband and I have been learning traditional Mexican dishes and you've been a great resource. You're killin it, keep up the good work 😀
My Grandmother Guadalupe made her tortillas completely by hand by slapping the dough between hands and made them so large it was amazing and they were so delicious! Thank you for your video! I will definitely use your recipe!
I have made several tortillas with other video instruction. Your recipe and instructions are the BEST! My dough was beautiful. The trick with the shortening on your hands was brilliant. Thank you so much for teaching us! I am a Texan living in Ohio. I like to make fajitas, but if you have a crappy tortilla, you have a crappy meal.
Just tried this and it is great. Put the leftovers in the fridge and they are great the next day after microwaving for about 10 seconds. These tortillas have made it on the menu here. I replaced the shortening with butter because I didn't have any, and it still turned out great.
I tried making tortillas with three different recipes and none turned out. I was pretty much ready to give up when I found yours on You Tube. They are excellent. The video and the way you explained it was perfect. Thank you so much. They turned out great.
My grandma made me home made refried beans and homemade tortillas everyday growing up and several times I try to learn how to make her flower tortillas but she never used any type of measuring cups or anything and she passed away almost twenty years a go and ai have not had any homemade flour tortilla scents. I have tried making them several times but I never knew what measurements to use of anything and I've now learned my two biggest mistakes I was making was not using warm water and not working the dough long enough so thank you for giving me back a piece of my childhood. On rare occasions my grandmother would make these gorditas which were basically little balls made out of the flower tortilla recipe that I think she would fry afterwards and then fill up with beans, cheese and what ever else the person eating them wanted. If you know what I'm talking about, I would love to see a video on how to make them because no one seems to know what a gordita is except that it's something from Taco Bell
This is a great recipe !!! I like that no lard is used so these feel lighter to me!! The key ladies is how thin she gets them to avoid that biscuit of flatbread texture . If you aren’t as good doing the pulling technique I suggest using a tortilla press to get it like 80% there then using a rolling pin for the last bit of stretching .
When I was growing up my Grandmother used to make me fresh baked bread and I loved it. After growing up and getting married to a Latina, I now get home made tortillas and I love them, the same way I used to love Grandmothers bread. I'm going to show my wife this recipe and see what she thinks. I may get in trouble...
You are amazing. After a month of searching and testing several recipes, which all failed Except yours! I finally have a delicious, soft and elastic tortilla. You shared important tips on how to achieve the perfect texture, so that I wouldn’t end up with a flat bread. Thank you 😊
I Made my wife some and she loved them I’m the men of 🏡 and I do the cooking . here thank you for the recipe i wanted to make this kinda tortillas ,finally did thanks to you!

Thank you. I'm so pleased to have an easy recipe to make flour tortillas. I'm making these once a week, and each time perfect! You're a great teacher! Gracias!
Hi Rossana! Thank you so much for making this channel. Your videos has given a whole new appreciation for Mexican Cuisine. Your videos has taught me how much love and work goes into every recipe. I hope your channel becomes super popular.
Those are probably the best flour tortilllas I've ever seen on youtube! You're so right about shaping them being a talent. It's something you just can't teach, you can only just keep trying and and somehow you get better at it over, well, quite a few attempts but couldn't tell anyone how. For me I didn't even get them to bubble and puff until I'd made them about 5 times, and then after they always did - it's just something that is. Oh, having the pan too low so they kinda dry out was a mistake I made for a while, too. I have been having trouble with them not cooking in spots.. (spinach version). If I increase my heat a little the spots get too dark before I flip them. A little less heat & they cook too long becoming drier.... Any help??? 🥰
I really love how you added your own story from when you were younger, I grew up in mexico for the first few years of my life and went back a few times after and I just love how watching your video reminded me of my mexican roots❤
You described everything so beautifully. Your accent is so lovely and I appreciate how you spoke clearly and concisely so we can ask understand the technique. Great job!
Rosanna thank you so much for this! I've been wanting to make tortillas forever! I have fond memories of my abuelita making tortillas but we never got a chance to make them together, and i was so intimidated to make them by myself! But this recipe is so simple! The tortillas turned out great and i cant wait to make them for my fam. Muchisimas gracias!
I love the story and so happy that you can share them and your recipes. Thank you so much for all of your videos, love em all! Been using your fluffy white bread recipe almost daily. So good! Thank you!
8:00!! My Mom and Tia Tita made them daily also. Nothing better than walking into my Tias house, grabbing a fresh tortilla out of her iconic white Tupperware bowl covered with a towel. Rub a little butter on it from the stick in the fridge, roll it up and have my snack for the day. We made them a bit more thick but this video brought me back to my childhood growing up in Colorado.
I learned how to make tortillas from my Mom, and learned from her Mom. I was in 6 or 7th grade when my Mom went to work so it was my job to make them. I made the sobaqueras outside on a special comal that my Dad made for making them. That is until my Grandfather's bull ran it over. Now I make the small ones inside on a cast iron griddle. I just add as much flour as I want. Measure the salt in my hand, scoop out the lard with my hand. This is how I learned. They don't last beyond that day with my grandkids, and I usually make 4-5 dozen. My Grandmother used to make tortillas as a demonstration for the Tumacaori National Monument here in Arizona. She even went to Washington DC to make her tortillas. I inherited the big pot/bowl that she used.
Your tortillas look delicious! My husband was the tortilla maker in our family. He used bacon grease., with the bacon bits and all. Our kids LOVED them!
Im going to try your recipe. I asked my grandma for her recipe and she said, recipe, cual recipe mijo yo nomas le echo todo al puro tanteo. Rolling them is definitely an art and my grandma bangs them out like a machine. In a few minutes she has a big stack of delicious tortillas. I hope my girls and wife can master the art like my abuelita did. Great vids keep up the amazing work. 👍🏼👍🏼
This was the perfect and softest dough that i have found on line. I didn't even have to add any more flour. Even when rolling it out. I didn't need any more flour. The only problem, it didn't have as many air bubbles that i was hoping for. The other thing, i couldn't roll it out thin enough. But I will keep trying.
Enjoyed your video very much. Other tortilla recipes they make it a paste and pretend to be cooked both sides perfectly while it is not. Your recipe is perfect and your story was good to listen. Old is gold. Anisa from India.
LOVE U, my dear VILLA COCINA ,since l made your breads by followed your recipe my family LOVE it, I will try your tortilla 's recipes too. GOD BLESS YOU, THANKS AGAIN, DEAR!
This reminds me soo much of Indian Roti which is made of Wheat flour and even All purpose flour like you did in this video We exactly make it this way We eat this every day as it's soft and Easy to digest specially if you made it with Wheat flour ❤️
I tried these last night and OH MY WORD easy and delicious. I wanted to snap a pic but didn’t get to bc theses lil tortillas were DEVOURED! Thank You for sharing
Looks delicious. I've gotta try that, looks so much better than store bought. I'm Italian and homemade Pasta is way better than store bought, so I'm guessing this is no different. Looks amazing
I love these things! You have given me confidence to try it myself. I tried making them with a recipe from a cookbook years ago and I failed. So I’m going to rewatch this video and give it a try! Thank you
I cook a lot but I’ve never made tortillas. I guess today’s the day to try it out. Going to try your recipe. They look like the best ones I’ve seen on UA-cam.

Love your abuela! thanks for sharing.
I know older people don't believe in recipes but you should try to watch her and write it as best as you can else this will be a lost art one day
Los hombres tambien pueden hacer tortillas, mi papa` las hacia, tambien hacia bunuelos.
I loved all of your recipes. Thank you for the simple and clear instructions.
Most welcome 😊
I bet your family eats really good. The food you prepare looks amazing.
We all love traditional methods.
At the recommendation of a friend, I made these tonight. HUGE hit in our home. Thank you for sharing!
I subbed because of the clear demonstration of technique in this video. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your videos !! I’m half Mexican and want to be able to teach my daughter to make authentic Mexican food once she’s older ❤️
Just made them, best n clear recipe ever, gracias mamita!
Enjoyed your video very much. Other tortilla recipes they make it a paste and pretend to be cooked both sides perfectly while it is not. Your recipe is perfect and your story was good to listen. Old is gold.

This reminds me soo much of Indian Roti which is made of Wheat flour and even All purpose flour like you did in this video We exactly make it this way We eat this every day as it's soft and Easy to digest specially if you made it with Wheat flour ❤️

Looks delicious. I've gotta try that, looks so much better than store bought. I'm Italian and homemade Pasta is way better than store bought, so I'm guessing this is no different. Looks amazing
I’m going to try them. Thank you😊 I have like 20 different recipes but I still love my mothers. But I like trying new ones.
I love these things! You have given me confidence to try it myself. I tried making them with a recipe from a cookbook years ago and I failed. So I’m going to rewatch this video and give it a try! Thank you
