I've had my preorder in for quite a while. Glad they're getting to ship these next month. A little sad to see the refresh rate change to 60Hz from 120Hz, but for my use case, it's just not going to matter. I recently switched from using a laptop with a second 32" monitor as a daily driver to a desktop in my bedroom for games and video. I still miss being able to pull a laptop screen up close when I need to do a lot of reading so I'm planning on using the NexDock XL as a second monitor with keyboard/trackpad controls. I have a portable monitor hooked up currently, but it doesn't quite fit the use case as it's pretty close to impossible to get one of those to stand stably on your lap and it's annoying to juggle additional Bluetooth HIDs like that as well.
the reason I'm looking at one of these is that all my photos, videos etc are already on my phone and so are PS and Dream Cast emulators, I haven't checked prices but I imagine a Chromebook with the specs of a flagship phone would be pretty expensive
I made my phone my primary personal computer 3 years ago with a nexdock and haven't looked back. Definitely going to get the XL later this year. I'm waiting to see if there are.any bugs/qc issues on the first round of production before I pull the trigger.
I was wondering the same. Is the Steam deck and mentioned ROG Ally slow charge or able to charge from the Nexdock XL. I know the prior models only slow charged the Steam Deck curious if it's changed on this model or not.

Funny thing, or sad... back in the day of the Microsoft/Nokia 940/940XL Windows phones, MS had a prototype of a very similar device that would dock a Win10 phone with continuum (or however they spelled it). I actually got a chance to see it and it was nice, a bit heavy but for the time, nearly 10 years ago, it was cool.
HP made the Elite X3 phone in 2016 with Continuum. The sold it paired with branded lapdock and desktop dock accessories. Not a prototype, but a regular retail product.
I had one! A bit too early for its time, it was not a good tablet nor a good laptop replacement, I really liked it but Asus dropped support for it very quickly.
That would be amazing, could something like Box64 run on that? I'd love to try some Sims 1 on my phone lol. Rooting my phone is really starting to look more appealing lately, getting nosalgia for the good old days of clockworkmod
There are some ways to run Linux on Android such as Androidnix. Pair it with Dex mode, and you’ve got a Linux PC when you need it, and a phone when you don’t.😊
You know how much a server terminal costs that's basically this except USB2.0 inputs and a VGA display, but on a 1U rack rail? $1000 or more. This for $299 is a steal, but if it had VGA input and USB output they could just take over all server rooms. Make space for a standard Framework motherboard, and basically you have all sysadmins on board.
Appreciate the 'virtual walkaround' of this, but I really wish that you had put forth *any* critique or criticism of this. As a potential customer, its cool to see what all it will do for me, but I am almost more worried about what It wont do (if anything) or what I will hate or what will annoy me about having to use this with dex
That phone will burn to ashes with wireless charging and wireless Dex at the same time. I wish they had a small fan to cool down the phone while it is docked.
So the NexDockXL will work with Apple iPhone 14-15? Nice idea to help use your phone as a laptop. But be good if there were different variants, like with higher refresh Hz panels option. Thanks for the review...
Hey PRIME! Thank you so much for making this video bro. I really appreciate it. Can't wait till they start shipping out the pre-orders. This is going to make my 1TB S24 Ultra even more of a portable beast. But yeah a little disappointed about losing the 120 to 60 refresh rate.
I pre-ordered the NexDockXL last year thinking it was supposed to be a 120hz screen and larger 57Wh battery. I have a screenshot showing showing the original tech specs and you can see it for yourself using the wayback machine web archive. This is pretty shady of them to take my pre-order money and then change the specs without notifying me about the change. I already have the original NexDock that I was going to sell and upgrade to this new one but now I don't really know if its worth it anymore if it wont have the 120Hz display and bigger battery like they originally promised.

I love this idea, where you don't have to buy (and then toss) 3 devices when specs change. Just upgrade your phone and keep using the Nexdock as PC and tablet. Now, if it could also work with a Windows mini PC...

I'm always a huge sucker for lapdocks, but I'm not entirely sure about this one because of the touchpad. I always felt like DeX was a feature that Samsung and Google (from the Android part) failed at making works perfectly even if the hardware is totally able to do. I know that I never tested DeX on "official suported hardware," but still, I don't think it would change my mind. This thing costs more than a Chromebook, and I still have more use from my 2019 Chromebook than my S24U in DeX despite being less than a 3rd of the power.
I get that word processing, email, and spreadsheets would do just fine, but how does light photo or video editing work out, for those who post to UA-cam? Could you work off of this or would you be willing to daily drive it for a month?

My issue with this is why not just carry a laptop? Like if youre using a foldable phone you can just get a smaller folding keyboard and compact mouse which is smaller. Or if you need a big screen, a laptop goves way nore freedom than this.
Very few people will leave their phone into their "laptop" immagine the mess if you receive a call Instead i think the opposite would be more useful A foldable kickstand to rise up your phone for a more comfortable multitasking
This more interesting than the Snapdragon X elite laptop. however, like the Qualcomm laptop, expensive at $300, just a few dollars more and get a complete laptop that is faster than the phone. Why you don't have a review of this product, I want to see how this performs in Arm games.
there is no way your getting a new laptop faster then a s23/s24 ultra for less then $500 and even that is a stretch. I don't think people realize how powerful the snapdragon gen 2/3 are. A snapdragon x laptop is like $1k, for that you could get a laptop with a 4070 in it so its not really a comparison.

Does anyone actually like the standardization of the 1920 x 1080 resolution? I feel like nothing looks right unless it's on at least 1920 x 1200 but in recent years, all the monitors are usually the shorter version.
The problem I've had with this in the past was it cost as much as a laptop that can do very similar things and doesn't require your phone to be connected..
Can anyone say if the trackpad is any better than previous nexdock devices? This video felt like it talked a lot about unimportant things and didn't cover anything important with regards to things like their how infamously bad their trackpads are and if that has at all been addressed in this model. Also did not cover the speakers at all unless I missed it, which were also not great (not horrible, but not great) on older models. It really feels like this is a promoted piece as your normal videos go way more in depth for how a device works and feels compared to this video. This one just feels like a fluff piece to advertise nexdock rather than a first look or review

This is obviously made for Samsung dex, nothing else offers a desktop OS, so why wouldn't they integrate the phone where it belongs as the touch pad, or at least to the right where it can be the number row or even a Wacom tablet. Why would they place it up top?
A little workaround. Use Desktop mode and then from there some useful skin. Works on my OnePlus. Only setback it erases your homescreen for some reason. Erases all icons.

I don't know if you read the comments, I've been following your channel for a long time I really enjoyed the content, I was wondering if you can test this with the raspberry pi 5
It would be great to see how well this supports Apple devices. I have an iPhone and a SteamDeck and if I could use this this with both to some extent that would be helpful on the go.
How's the track pad? On the Nexdock 360 it's extremely glitchy with my Huawei, Honor and Samsung devices also on my Mac mini and Steam deck.
@@leonardodavinci7425 it’s literally the worst trackpad I’ve ever used. Get a mouse or cut up a matte screen protector
Hi ETA PRIME Nice video i like yours videos!!
What apps the games do you use?
Thanks =)
Chromebook Plus is around the same price and much more useful. I can't understand why you'd choose this over that
I always felt like DeX was a feature that Samsung and Google (from the Android part) failed at making works perfectly even if the hardware is totally able to do.
I know that I never tested DeX on "official suported hardware," but still, I don't think it would change my mind. This thing costs more than a Chromebook, and I still have more use from my 2019 Chromebook than my S24U in DeX despite being less than a 3rd of the power.
The best thing about this is if you took it out in public and someone stole it from your car, at least they didn't steal your data
Every time I see something like this I always remember Razer's project Linda, I think that is the way to go
put the trackpad on the right side look weird to me, but this one interesting. I might buy one.
Looking for some thing like this, nearly an instant buy, but the missing numpad kills it for my purpose.
I get that word processing, email, and spreadsheets would do just fine, but how does light photo or video editing work out, for those who post to UA-cam?
Could you work off of this or would you be willing to daily drive it for a month?
The phone is the computer here. If you can edit videos on the small screen of the phone, you can edit on the external big screen too.
Works fine. Apps like LumaFusion and Lightroom work well with DeX and Ready For.
Nexdock original: "Hey goofs, your trackpad is in the wrong place"
Nexdock XL: "HOLD MY BEER"
The screen on my steamdeck has been out for ever so I'd love to just drop it in a laptop. This seems like the next best thing
Thank you for the overview. I pre-ordered a year ago, and was ready to cancel (on my calendar for the 15th). Looks like they are finally getting ready to ship.. One question, do you know what the speed on the ports are? Is the USB A gen 2 (10gb) or 1 (5) same for C? Thanks again.
My issue with this is why not just carry a laptop? Like if youre using a foldable phone you can just get a smaller folding keyboard and compact mouse which is smaller. Or if you need a big screen, a laptop goves way nore freedom than this.
They should just built a concave docking at that charging area are so you close the laptop and go.
That would probably weaken the area and make them strengthen the side creating added cost in molding.
Very few people will leave their phone into their "laptop" immagine the mess if you receive a call
Instead i think the opposite would be more useful
A foldable kickstand to rise up your phone for a more comfortable multitasking
And leave your phone in there?
@@francescoatria1086 I'd much rather the phone just be the track pad...
@@harvivekdhindsa6809 in that case a think a separate trackpad is better because with the screen off you have less battery consumption
@@MrVlodato SD chips are powerful at 10 watts or less but no match to laptop chips when go higher wattages. I did a quick search at Newegg. MSI - Bravo 15 B7EDP-024US at $650. This has AMD Ryzen 7 7000 Series 7840HS (3.80GHz) - AMD Radeon RX 6550M.
Eta, i know you have been using external GPU on some Mini Pc can you make a video comparing different options... i want to buy one but i want one than i can replace the GPU
Android 15 will have the "Desktop Mode" build in (:
Are there microphones that work in andriod? Since I tried a lot of my wired 4-pole mics with my ODIN 2 and NONE of them got picked up with the dozen or so apps I own. FL Studio couldn't find them. Easy Record, Record Pro, and a handful of other ones. Cursory online search said for whatever reason Android as of 11 stopped supporting external mics. Maybe that was via 3.5mm and not USB C like a Rode Wireless Pro or those wireless options.
@@matthewjohnson1891 That's USB C based and not 3.5MM based.
Will the Galaxy S23 Ultra's Stylus (think it's called an 'S-Pen' or something like that) work on the touchscreen? Like, if I want to draw with this display.
TIL I need this. Cries in Pixel 8
This should work with an rpi too, I think. Reminds me of hacking the old motorola atrix lapdock to make a somewhat rpi laptop.
What I want to know is if when hooked to a Windows machine, do you get access to advanced touchpad features like turning off tap to click?
I like the idea. But to bad its only US keyboard layout. I want the nordic version. Live in Sweden.
Keyboard cover or order special designed.
I bought a portable monitor with keyboard and battery a while back when it was available. 15.9 inch OLED 4K touch. Was expensive but they discontinued and got discontinue price on it.
Huh, this is very interesting to me. I travel a bit and hate having two disconnected devices. Dex is really good so....
Does anyone actually like the standardization of the 1920 x 1080 resolution? I feel like nothing looks right unless it's on at least 1920 x 1200 but in recent years, all the monitors are usually the shorter version.
MagSafe is also within Qi 2 so expect more Android phones to have it soon
The problem I've had with this in the past was it cost as much as a laptop that can do very similar things and doesn't require your phone to be connected..
That laptop will eventually become obsolete, this never will. Besides at that price point, it'll probably be a crappy laptop.
Wow, what controller is that? looks like a 8bitdo ultimate but can’t seem to find that transparent version
You get all that for $299. What a deal!
Still waiting for making the phone function as touch pad..with phone slot..
This question has nothing to do with this video, but I asked a particular question of you on your ocu link video but no response. Can I run the Intel Arc A770 16G Graphics card on your "Low-Cost OCuLink GPU Dock?
This is obviously made for Samsung dex, nothing else offers a desktop OS, so why wouldn't they integrate the phone where it belongs as the touch pad, or at least to the right where it can be the number row or even a Wacom tablet. Why would they place it up top?
A little workaround. Use Desktop mode and then from there some useful skin. Works on my OnePlus. Only setback it erases your homescreen for some reason. Erases all icons.
Thank you ETA Prime for doing straight up reviews and not trying to become retro UA-cam famous like the other🙌
It would be worth if the battery exploited all the empty space inside, at this point im getting a laptop
I actually wonder if this is going to be the future. Docking our phones into laptops or tvs
Switch did , so this won't be far off if it's more affordable.
I don't think so, having dedicated systems has enough advantages to quite a lot of people.
@@rafidywolf1504 The switch came out 7 years ago and I still can't believe no one has really attempted to make a drop in dock like the switch. That to me seems like a no brainer idea that companies would gravitate towards. Drop in your phone or steam deck. I know there are docks that sort of do that, but they're still more like charging stands that might or might not have an hdmi output for a monitor.
I just bought a NexDock 360° Wireless, loving it so far and will definitely make a review later on my tech channel. This is cool, but much bigger than what I personally would want. Definitely worthwhile for anyone wanting an all-in-one accessory for your devices, though.
What controller is this?
.
.
Anyone wondering the price its 299
Iam left handed, that trackpad is going to be a challenge. Please dont put your phone on the laptop,as soon as you close it,you will have a nice cracked imprint of the S24 Ultra
Yooo ETA, can you holla at Nexdock and ask them to Ship to Australia lol?
Motorola's Ready For, is gone it's been replaced with Smart hub
I believe. 🤔
Mmm..I like that wallpaper..Could you kindly share with us?
Does the NexDock XL work with the Mac mini M1?
Anyone searching for price, its 300 dollars.
Its a bit steep for my use case and to be honest a bit too big.
They have a 13" version, too.
3DS, 3DS 3DS!!!!!! Please play 3DS games in this form factor
3DS is a legend!!!
OLED and 90/120hz missing for my taste
I’m always curious about dual screen gaming. I wonder if this works because it seems to be a somewhat affordable option
Are there dual screen mobile games? Or did you have other hardware in mind?
@@notreallydaedalus I had emulation in mind
Nexdock is basically Razor's Project Linda
no ethernet means this can support internet over usb-c I guess, right?
I wonder if it works with the switch
Would it work with a external usb c ssd if so I might buy one
he shows use of one in this video so it will for at least the brand that he used
it work but it might not work with NTFS file system if you use android powered device on it
I think my honor magic 4 pro should do it because I can cast it to my laptop in a laptop mode for android
Yes, all Honor Magic Pro smartphone since 2021 has Magic Desktop support. That also applies to Honor Magic V foldable phone series.
