- We review the new Sur Ron Bee lightweight electric motorcycle. Also known as the Firefly, or just "Sur Ron". Ride video here: • Sur Ron Bee Electric M...
The manufacturers site is found here www.sur-ron.com...
Purchase in the USA from Lunacycle.com
Purchase in Australia and NZ from aebikes.com.au (they also ship world wide)
Notables not mentioned- Gross bike weight about 110lbs. The bike is set up for about 150lb rider weight, but has preload control for heavier riders. The charger supplied by Luna Cycle takes about 3 hours, 10 amps of charging power. Run time is about 35 miles on the street or 1 to 2 hours flogging off road. The easily removable battery makes hot swapping very fast.

The future of these type of bikes is gonna be so awesome, I can't wait
I wish more people on youtube would review stuff like you do, laid-back, yet stuffed with useful information. Great job with the filming as well. Thumbs up!
Thanks! The youtube channel is just a side project for informational purposes. I keep it up just because of people like yourself that find the information useful. I'll send my cameraman your compliments, he really kicks it up a notch doesn't he!
Also the hat turned on the side, he's like so not a douche.
Blah blah blah
Refreshing...to see a non pretentious review...you know...endless "shoutouts" to their favorite fans. Another brief segment to their sponsor. Or "housekeeping" about their future shows. Etc.
Agreed! Love his laid back but informative style
An electric motorcycle pulled up to a gas station : Gas attendant " Fill 'er up? Rider: "No, tanks"
Mack Cullete nice Mack. Like it
Speedy I seen you comment this one so many times
Well said sir!
I've had this joke stuck in my head every time I ride this thing up to the gas station. Thanks buddy!!
Brewed Awakening “no tanks, but I could use a plug”
Looks like a winner for the price I wanna see more
bikes like this in the market.
beatsdddx amen
all our lithium batteries are shipped at a low state of charge as they should be to legally and safely ship lithium.
0v on the output is pretty low, mate!
do you really think you could ever recover a lithium battery that had fallen down to 0v? This just means your BMS shut off power to the discharge which on a micro processor based bms like on the sur rons can happen for a number of reasons. The fact you were able to even get to ride your bike means it did not fall below an unsafe level.
PDV
Chased me away.
They do have a point though. My battery has been just fine, doesn't seem to be any damage done.
Luna Cycles Litio =Chile, ahí ea barato.
I'm a wheel builder too and agree with your assessment on spoke choice - thicker is not always stronger!
5 loose spokes from the factory. Next vid will be addressing this since it's quite important for longevity of the wheels.
Great review. I’d love it if you could revisit the bike in a couple on months and give us your thoughts.
I hear you regarding the spokes, I can also say, our kiwi kids and these guys ride really hard, have never had an issue to this day. No questioning your comment, just adding to it. Nice review BTW
Anything with a Golden Motor on it has my support!! I used their original magic pie motor until the Axle stripped from just so much use 😭
Mr. Holmes I love your professional films from the 70s. Very classic vintage stuff. Solider on, brother.
14 mins before we see it move! Maybe break up the speaky speaky with a little showy showy. :)
Going to record a ride vid in about an hour for people that don't want so much review.
biscuitsalive this.
Break up. Learny learny ;p
HolmesHobbies wheres the video of you out on it
Love ur review I cant stand a long ride with no details so thank you for ur expertise sir
I use Holmes electric engines in my rc crawlers and scale trucks. Best rc motor builder in the business. Great review of the e-motor cross cycle. Thx John.
You’re a natural in front of the camera my friend! Nice review.
That's a very important piece of information that the battery pack arrived flat. I would love to know what the actual voltages of the cells were. You are right: letting a lithium ion cell go below 3 volts per cell REALLY shortens their life span. If I ordered this bike and it came with a battery pack that was below 3V/cell I'd send the thing back. Or at least bargain for a replacement battery pack right away.
So far so good. I've alerted Luna to it and we are going to simply use the battery. If a problem arises, we can get it swapped out. If no problem arises, I'll keep riding it.
I would definitely enjoy a teardown video on this bike. More info on the controller, motor, and battery.
Please can you show in more detail the engine and how it provides all the torque it has? Thank you for your videos.
Nice bike, please tidy that front brake cable though sir😀
Agreed. We need to get a cable kit, as it is far too long to deal with by zip ties
Very nice front brake line hanging there with a 1m loop. Classy
Quite so. I finally got the time to clean up the wiring on the bike, looks a lot better now. Should have a vid out in a few days that covers the latest changes.
I'm trying to take you seriously, despite the hat.
Check out this beefy off road electric dirt bike, as I take it for two laps in my flat 30 foot back yard.
THE HAT HES A GANG BANGER HE LOOKS SO TOUGH????? HA HA
Did you not hear when he said he's been building wheels since 94-95? That explains the hat perfectly
The hat is tough and smart open up your heart
Your a hater!
Nice to see someone that knows about EV.
I'm from Missouri too... Thanks for the info
I'm only 1:41 into the video but I had to stop to give you props on that sweet golf basket!!!
My other hobby.
Man that looks like it's gonna be fun as hell!! Good score, great review!
Very good point on the spokes!
Looks slick though... would actually prefer a front fender "a la dirtbike" on this and the back fender a few inches longer in terms of looks alone BUT as it is, not bad at all.
Dang that bike is pretty kick. Nice review making me want to get one.
Your camera guys really good.
Professionals. I claim no skills of filming.
I bought a trek 8+ electric commuter bike last year and luv it. I want this now. By the way your hat tilted to the side is distracting.
Wasn't on purpose, the jacket had pushed it around. But it gets all sorts of comments, so it was probably a good thing for the vid to have something for people to dislike.
@@HolmesHobbies yes it seems people luv to be negative. Anyway i luv electric bikes and your reviews are excellent. Keep up the good work.
Tom Boyle His hat tilted to the side is sexy. Don’t be so negative man!
Thanks for your advice I wish more people would do the same you sound genuine and it would help a lot of people to make a decision if that's what they wanted or not. 😀
Thanks Paul! The youtube page is just a side project for informational purposes. I can give people information and help when appropriate, and have the resources to bring it together into a vid. So it would be a shame to not do this, in my opinion. Since it seems there isn't a lot of information about this bike yet, it was appropriate. Heck, Luna cycle where I bought it from doesn't know anything about the bike, they couldn't answer any of my questions and have been zero help after the sale. Taking their sweet time to respond with a "I don't know" is pretty weak IMO. Couldn't take that week and research or inspect your own inventory and come back with a real response? Just a little frustrating, which is one reason I made this vid so other people didn't have to get the same runaround on super basic information.
Sweet! Given me a whole new perspective on the "Mountain Biking" thing, one that'll allow me to enjoy the sport again.
YYC DESIGNZ Its not a mountain bike and they are not allowed on mtb trails. Even electric assist mountain bike are not allowed on most mtb trails
Travis T - Thanks for educating me about this bike. Guess I just thought since it looks very TRAIL friendly it could replace (for lack of a better word) a mtn bike. It's still very cool & I'll have to gain more knowledge about where I could ride one here, thanks again Travis.
YYC DESIGNZ You should be able to ride on OHV trails. I feel you I thought the same thing when I first say it
What made you stop enjoying it?
Very good job on this review! I could tell your very experienced with this type product. Great component explanation, even a newbie to e-bike learning like me came away with knowledge I can now use to explore the options out there that interest me. Thanks!
I, too, shall refer to your hat being all catawampus and imply that your apparel makes you appear to be a player-created character in a skateboarding video game while also proclaiming that older internal combustion technology is cheaper than new electric propulsion because I am very observant and smart and quite attractive.
Jousting King What the heck are you talking about
CCCagley FPV -that right there is an extra thick layer of sarcasm you are witnessing.
Jousting King What bullshit
Dude man bro, skateboarders and dirt bike riders are in a tight knit and overlapping genre of punk rockedness. You never heard of X games?
Very informative technical information all around
Glad you liked it :)
Personally thought this review of components was sufficient, but would love to see more review of riding and owning the bike. Charging, battery swap and cost, on road riding etc.
Absolutely! I'll keep up the info as we put more ride time on it. I didn't get into that aspect of the bike because I honestly don't have enough ride time to form much opinion of the finer points. But I will soon, its getting ridden daily.
Hurry up!:)
Thanks for the hospitality John from Colorado
Great review. I couldn't look away even though I really don't have interest in any two wheeled electric bike. Maybe someday.
Thanks :)
First look for me. This looks great!. If i wasn't a city person i would get one for sure. Looks like it can be crazy fun off road in the woods jumping over stuff. 👍
I mostly ride mine in the city since it falls into the scooter/moped laws of missouri
John Holmes...John Holmes, does it rings a bell ? ( Sorry, couldnt help it. You must be sick of listening to that )
the panasonic cells can be discharged to 2.5v per cell, so define low battery.. would be interesting.
The BMS was shut off so the battery terminals were reading zero, didn't know how low they really were. Didn't take long to hit 48v on the terminal, so it must have not been much below 3v/cell.
E-bike laws seem better in the US than Canada. That thing is illegal in Ontario.
1. e-bike must be no faster that 20 mph and can't have sport mode switch.
2. e-bike must have pedals
3. motor must be direct drive and not connected to gears
4. it cant be more the 500 watt.....
5. The above laws suck.
What about scooter laws? This could be classified as a 50cc equivalent bike in EP mode.
Might require insurance if the law has changed in the last few years, I have a friend with a legitimate e-bike and the Cops pulled him over 7 times in 6 months. He had to fight it. It looked a bit to much like a Scooter. He also had a Slow move vehicle sign on the back and that is illegal. In the end he won.
If it's got pedals- and can move the vehicle via them, and is doing the speed limit, it shouldn't matter what it looks like.
Jason Gooden It's not a E bike it's a electric motorcycle
Jason Gooden Canada sucks they hate their people that abused them with high taxes and then tell him Healthcare is free it is a farce the healthcare that's free as a joke and they won't even give you a surgery when you need the surgery so wake up and start telling these people off or just move to the US where you can do whatever you want my friend. I have a Canadian girlfriend for 7 years and she's a total b****
Very good feedback/review video. I also like that cap, but can't tell what brand that is. Looks very interesting & would need one for the colder days. Cheers & keep up the good stuff!
Excellent review. Thanks for this.
In Los Angeles we have Cab Eagle, a pretty badass looking electric bike. Pricey but I've heard good things about it. I wish you could come down and check it out and do a video on it too. I'm in the market for a bike, looking at Cab Eagle and Australias Stealth Bomber. Now, this one enters the market...
Great video John! Those are exactly the things I need to know about an electric bike. Here in Toronto I'll have to add a set of studded winter tires to the inventory, but that bike would get me through the city and down to work quick. I wonder if it'll fit in the elevator? Hmmm. ...
Its light enough to pick up the front end. Would get into an elevator just fine that way like I used to do with mountain bikes.
What kind of licensing is required in Ontario for this?
Charlie Johnson , at the moment nothing is required in the form of a license, but you must follow all bicycle rules have a front and back light as well as a bell. I always suggest the brightest you can possibly afford, and aimed at drivers in a way that causes them the most annoyance possible. Helmets for bicycles either, but if your not a very proficient rider or your bike goes faster than you can pedal, get a helmet, and have an annoying red flashing light on the back of that helmet, because when some idiot hits you the court will award you the most money when you show them the friggin light show you've got going on , and you can prove that " Damn right I was visible!". I run a 800 lumen flashing white light on the front of my bike, and a 1000 lumen red on the back, and I have an extra 400 lumen red on my backpack, all of them rechargeable lithium, it's about $150 in lighting, and that's night or day, and I've had drivers yelling at me pissed off because it hurts their eyes, I've never been hit in rush hour or night time traffic in my life, and I ride everywhere in the city. Toronto has Los Angeles /New York City traffic, and it's getting worse, 6.5 million people in the metropolitan Toronto area. Hopefully, as long as people stay safe with electric bikes in the city, the laws won't get to where some american cities have gone or God forbid, Hong Kong with its up to 3 months in jail, crazy !
doesnt this bike need pedals to be legal on toronto? im looking to purchase one but the only thing stopping me is the pedals @shovington67
DriftKingKenzie , yes that is one of the stipulations , pedals make it legal but they're just for show, you could barely go anywhere with that gearing. You should check Alibaba because the suppliers of these electric bikes, scooters, and motorcycles will sell you 1 unit and ship it to you for about 40% of what you pay in the U.S.A. and instead of paying $800 for anew lithium battery in a year, they sell them for between $150 and $200 depending on the size. The mark up on these bikes is HUGE,and if you can wait for a month or so for shipping, you can really save a lot of money. In comparison, my buddy wanted a carbon fiber bicycle frame, so he bought it from China and he paid $600 instead of the local retail of $4000, he waited approximately 40 days for delivery. Alibaba is a good faith middle man that holds your money until your purchase is delivered and your satisfied, then they release the cash.
Good video bro you are probably the best reviewer I've seen. Keep it up .I want one here in Florida.lol
Thanks! Not every agrees with you here. Seems not every body agrees that reviews should have talking about the bike in question, lol
If you're like me and you just want to see him ride the thing, fast forward to 14:07.
I still need to do a ride vid. We are shooting another monday and will totally do more ride footage.
Thanks for telling me about the packaging. I have the worst luck when it comes to missing components. I won't be spending that much money in fear that I might be missing a bolt when the packaging arrives. Thank you for saving me that possible headache 🎆. I'll definitely be looking for an equal competitor that has better packaging reviews. 🎆. You are a life saver. Bobby
I bet the packaging has gotten better. I got the first of the first bikes and it was probably inside a LTL container and subject to a lot more rearranging. Current shipments are completely full cargos and won't have as much chance for damage.
25-45Mph = Nice Juicy Road or Mountain Rash. Yum 😋.
Wish it would go a lot faster.😉
Jose Fernandez finally some damn specs so I can say TOO SLOW
Incredibly sharp looking bike. The frame looks amazing. Looks like the majority of the bike is made of high quality alumimum which is a major plus because it retains strength but at a fraction if the weight. Given the fact that both the battery and motor are heavy having that package with aluminum or even titanium parts surrounding it keeps the weight if the bike down quite a bit. Im gonna guess and say the entire 🚲 weighs substantially under 100lbs. Its probably around 50lbs +/-. But it has front & rear hydraulic disc brakes. A beefy fully adjustable unishock in the rear, and top notch oversized, fully adjustable inverted front forks that can be locked out. The twist throttle is another plus giving you more precision and control when riding hard on back trails, etc. The over look of the bike is amazing. For $3200+/- you woukd be hardpressed to find a bike this nice with similar features that can do 45mph.
Very good review, I learned a lot, thanks. I like it with mud guards on each wheels tho. Thumbs up.
yeah, needs fenders for sure.
Thanks for the review. You might want to do some more attention to detail about that front brake line . But I don't want to tell someone with your detail what to do . Thanks for the review . It was point on .
Very informative and thorough.
Can’t believe you rate quality at 9/10 despite nuts and bolts not being tightened. Sounds like China has managed to lower everybody’s expectations.
The overall bike quality IS 9/10. I didn't discount it because of the bolts for a few reasons. Primarily, they were "tight enough" to get through a few hundred miles. 2nd, any bike rider must go over a new bike and also do regular checks on nuts and bolts, this is a big part of owning any bicycle or powered machine. While I would certainly prefer the bike to be totally perfect, do keep in mind that I have been building my own bikes for decades and will nitpick details that might be good enough for everybody else.
Neat. I want to install that kickstand safety feature next time in my ebike build.
I’m 6’3” you think I can get one
Man I wish somebody would answer this. I’ve been asking on a hundred different vids
That’s funny, your neighbor’s told me they love the sound and smell of a two stroke engine.
I do too, but I don't trust my neighbors to feel the same way at 2am.
Do you wear your helmet sideways to ??? Lol
backwards for maximum cool
I have been watching some killer videos of how much this bike totally rips and I appreciate your in-depth review. My friend just got one and it looks sick! I am concerned about the spokes and the tires but hopefully they will fix that. I think I might buy one.
Crazy Town from 2001 called they want their hat back.
Something about your UA-cam name I don't know why I like it so much?
15 mins and never rolled an inch? Does this rig go?
Well we know who didn't watch the entire vid now...
Then watch a test ride vedio not a review , ya duhhh
Maybe front fenders to avoid mud in face?
Yeah, still need to put some fenders on. Unfortunately, the ones that Sur Ron have come up with are UGLY!
“I am John Holmes”. You are in a wrong video my friend.
Only the old timers like me will get the meaning of this. 👍🏼🍆😂
I'm not that old but I definitely know what he's talking about.
Thanks for the review. You really know your stuff.
Not a crown a triple tree . just FYI If it is a motorcycle forks
Double crown, triple tree? The lower crown was the one with looser bolts.
Good call on manufacturer exxageration.
I need one of these. But I'm 230lbs. Will it work for me?
my 220lb friend rode it, no problems. Since there is a chain drive final, it could also be geared down further for more torque in off road situations.
Life of an RC Addict THE MORE WEIGHT, THE MORE DRAW ON THE BATTERY. Don't EXPECT 45 MPH, OR AN, AS ADVERTISED,NUMBER OF MILES, BEFORE THE BATTERY NEEDS A RECHARGE.
Richard Conner WHY ARE YOU YELLING
Alien On a Bike my brother is quite thin, but at 6’9” tall... he still weighs in around 260... so losing weight isn’t an option for some human frames.
Alien On a Bike 206 centimeters tall... or 2057.4 mm
Really it looking good....plz share the price and specification.
The way you were wearing your hat, I kept expecting you to bust out some "rymez".
How much did this bike cost?
What your name is John Holmes ?
Maybe his mom named him after her favorite actor?
How slow can you go? Useful for slow speed control where on petrol you might slip the clutch, drag the brake and keep the revs high. How would something like that work on electric. It's useful for filtering in traffic (legal in UK)
Super duper slow, 1/2 mile an hour maybe? They did a great job mapping out the throttle curve and overlaying torque control. Extremely good throttle control on this bike.
Ever take that thing over sweet jumps?
You got like 3 feet of air that time!!
#NapoleonDynamite
Not much yet besides jumping some stairs .
Ha Ha, loved that movie!
Nice bike.I love riding my ebike is therapy.Put a front fender on to keep dirt and stuff from your eyes & mouth.Ride safe.
That is high on the agenda. Why no fenders Sur ron? Why?
Wath a big loop on the front brake cable. Lolll
yeah, it's been quite annoying. Can't really just zip tie it any better. Might have to chop it shorter and rebleed the brakes.
Ya I’d be a little concerned the thing might get brushed in and sucked up, then an OTB close up 🐜 view
You obviously know your stuff. Subscribed!
Thanks!
And for the same price you can get a nice two stroke 125 or 250 and have that great smell.
Only downside is using them at night in town. I thrashed the back lot for a half hour saturday night past 9pm and didn't have the cops come. Couldn't do that on any of my gas bikes!
This is exactly why I want one! Late night riding with friends!
@Anthony Mitchell - What's your address loudmouth?
I’m not putting my address on UA-cam... not that I’m worried about a bunch of soy boys anyways.
OK girlie girl keep hiding! No doubt you've had your ass kicked many times running your mouth like that!
This is the best ebike hand's down it's a tuner like the Grand Natty in the ebike world I built my First Pedal assist in 1983 I'm 49 Now nevertheless Eric and Luke and that team have a 30 Kw version they Know the Business and they do have 10 and 11 second 1/4 mile times on a Ebike say's it ALL- I can't wait to Ride with Luna Cycle when I put my 30Kw Electric GP Race Scooters back together 😁
Great review!
Thanks :)
thanks for the review John, i will be subscribing to see any follow up vids as you enjoy this bike. really interested to know what to expect as far as distance traveled on a charge in real world riding and how much of an incline it can handle. cheers
Many thanks! I'll be making more as time goes on. 40 miles on the street is what I'm getting. I have a back lot thats about 35% grade and it has no issue with it.
How did you get it now, when LunaCycles says it will ship end of February?? I'm ordering mine by the end of this week! The price on Saturday was about $3,300. This week it's $3,474. I'm hoping it doesn't go up anymore before Friday!!
Got one from the first shipment right when they arrived.
Cool34900. Too much Money 🖓
Larry Jordan yeah I mean its not cheap. But its definitely a bang for your buck in the electric bike community
Good review the bike looks good ..good point on the hub and spokes ..
I find it troubling that Luna Cycle didn't at the very least, charge the battery. They also should have went over every bolt and key part before shipping it out to you. Just my 2 cents.
they are just shuffling boxes at this point. Order them to the spec wanted, hope they are fine from the factory.
No respectable company will provide a battery that is not in "storage mode". What are you trying to say? The hardware is a different story.
The battery was dead on arrival. Watch the video.
MRBARBARYCOAST I saw that, but you mentioned the battery being charged. Thats a cheap bike. Lets see a tear down on the battery pack itself.
Supposedly, the battery is made of high grade Panasonic cells. From my personal experience, from owning 17 different electric bicycles, is that every one of them had a full to 3/4 charge upon arrival or when I would pick one up from a local dealer. This Sur Ron model I was and am very interested in buying based on the specs provided by Luna Cycle, but not if the batteries have not been taken care of.
Thanks for sharing. That bike looks pretty fun! So I'm no pro wheel builder by any stretch but working in the bike industry I am a bike geek and have some wheel builds under my belt. That said it seems to me that with the right pick of parts that bike could be a good candidate for some 650b-plus wheels. Those stock 19" wheels seem to be closer the the stance of B+ than to a 29er and B+ is fairly interchangeable with 29's as long as the frame geometry can handle it and you have the clearance. Sounds to me like you've been building bikes long enough to know about all of that. Could be fun. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on that.
It looks like they will rub the frame and lower crown. I have two 27.5+ bikes.
Triple clamps! Is the correct terminology.
@HolmesHobbies If you can find out what the rear hub is us know. I new wheel set would change this bike completely!
I won't bother checking the price a used motorcycle is most likely cheaper.
To be fair this is more of an 'unboxing' video, right? Usually someone needs actual experience with a product before a 'review' can be made. I'd love to hear your thoughts after a few hundred miles have been logged on the thing.
I have enough experience to notice problem areas right away, but this was after 70km of riding and not just after unboxing. I will continue the reviews as time goes on so people can follow along.
man, i can't belive people still wear those hats in 2018. xD
I had one in 82
still cool
It's a trend in 2099
Doesn’t go with the gray beard
Ok fine review, I’m not sure if I missed it or not, but not a word about the brakes? The brakes look to me like cable operated mechanical brakes? Is that so? If so that could be a problem at the speeds the bike is capable of. Plus how far can one travel on it? I have to say, why didn’t they have these when I was younger!
How can you rate it a 9 out of a 10, especially since it came with the dead battery, and very poor assembly? Tell your camera operator to zoom in on what you’re talking about as opposed to zooming out so we can see you. Also, were you paid to do this review?
The battery capacity was not affected by the low state of charge, and evidently the packs are sent in this low voltage state for shipping/ import reasons. Turns out the charger would have started the first time if I just waited more than a few seconds, so that was my fault there. Assembly itself wasn't poor at all. You have to keep in mind I have been building bikes for decades and am being really really nitpicky about everything, you are getting the unfiltered deal and not a sugar coated review. This is a bike that has to be partially built. Tightening and checking bolts is part of the final assembly procedure that SOMEONE must do on all bikes. No actual issues material or otherwise have cropped up, so for this bike in today's market the 9/10 rating is still accurate IMO. A high quality bike at practically half the cost of anything near it. There are a lot of bikes similar to this one in the 10k to 12k range even. Wish I was paid for this, lol! The bike was bought at full price, and I paid employees to film and edit it so other people could make an informed decision. I've been riding the pants off of the bike every day I can, absolutely love it.
Thx for the reply. Look forward to a long term review and maybe a review of one of the 10-12k ones.
Wish I could afford something like that! Maybe down the road, I would go for an Alta or Zero full size motorcycle at that price point. Although there are lighter "mountain bike'" size ones at the same price too. Don't need another light bike though, the Sur Ron really fits the bill perfectly.
mattweisz . How fast can it go what the top speed 64hr
@@HolmesHobbies what's the range actually like on this bike please in real world conditions
Nice job on the video. Good info. Enough info without being too much. Well spoken and knowledgeable. Subscribed.
Blowing them burms out ;-) Mo what part?
Columbia
Hell iv been to Columbia mo. Once when my sister stole my truck frm alton il thats were she left my shit but sweet review looks like a kick ass ride
What a boar Fest I found myself falling asleep halfway through and then he went for two laps
it's very loud
The mic is about a foot away from the frame, on me. To a person standing to the side it's not loud at all, and really isn't loud to the rider either. But the mic does catch the frequency well. Newer bikes should have a controller with less noise.
No shit sherlock
Excellent electric bike Review. Thx for taking the time.
3300 Euro. No thank's!
You can build your own with that much amount
"battery dead when I bought it"
Two minutes later in the review:
"I give it a 9 out of 10"
Thanks for the professional review
The battery itself wasn't "dead", but the BMS had shut off the output. After it was charged, no issue. I ride this bike every day the weather allows and would still rate it 9 out of 10.
HolmesHobbies
It sounds like the batteries were discharge to the point where the BMS had to intervene. Do you know how many volts per cell? If it was a deep discharge, there could be permanent damage and you could get really bad life.
The BMS soft kicks at 3v per cell and hard cuts at 2v per cell. Since I was able to reset the BMS, the cells were not below 2v, which would have been the point where damage would have happened on this particular cell. So somewhere between 2v and 3v. I didn't feel like taking the battery apart to test individual strings before using the bike. My best estimates based on the measurements I took are around 2.8v per cell.
How long dose the battery last
Pretty cool!
Hey you! Hope all has been well.
Can't complain, hope the same is true for yourself.
More close up of the bike and less of your jibber-jabber
His jibber-jabber taught me stuff about wheel building
Hameed Khan Dr... doom.
Well green is my favorite color, and i do like the design.
I will stick with my ktm my fosil fuel is less deadly to the earth than whats in that battery.
#1, I don't care if it is. #2, lithium batteries are 100% recyclable if people don't just throw them out. Tesla's battery factory recycles this format of cell, solvent and all.
To expound on #1, I don't care if electric vehicles are "more deadly" for the earth, mostly because there isn't enough information to really say that is absolutely true. There is as much support for them being better as their is being worse, and it is tough to trust that the fossil fuel industry isn't just spreading propaganda to keep their revenue stream flowing. I like electric vehicles not because of some "green" feeling, but because of the raw performance and power they give. I have dirtbikes, I have scooters. One by one they are all getting replaced by lighter and more powerful electric bikes. 6 of one, half a dozen of another. I'll take the one that is easier to maintain and produces peak torque at zero RPM.
The Notorious Angler wrong
i thought ktm made an electric bike?
