Well, some of them are going to become professional musicians to some degree some day so they're immersing themselves in various styles of music. I wanted to be a high school music teacher myself 35 years ago when I was in high school, but I couldn't keep my grades up enough to graduate so I had to drop out. When I was in high school I was listening to whatever 60s, 70s, and 80s were on the popular radio stations here in the Philadelphia area but I was also listening to Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller more than 30 hours a month as well as listening to some of the classical composers as well. The 1812 Overture, The Planets, Pictures At An Exhibition, and a number of songs that were recorded by the Eastern U.S. Music Camp in 1978 and 1979 (I was there myself for 2 weeks in 1980 and 6 weeks in 1981). Those songs included Tall Cotton, Wild Blueberries, Symphonic Dance #3 Fiesta and others. And now that youtube exists I'm listening to all kinds of things that I didn't know exited even 20 years ago............. Koyaanisqatsi by Philip Glass, anything by The Rustavi Choir (Soviet Georgia), various barbershop quartets, Drum Corps International, even local groups from various areas of the entire southern hemisphere (when I can find them).
I used to have a modded pair with a removable cable. I miss those so much. But they'd get real damn hot if you wore them for any extended amount of time walking

Of course Berklee kids are listening to classical, jazz, industrial, indie, metal, and local! This one has been the most interesting I've seen of these videos
I love how there's such a niche and diverse array of musical tastes represented, which makes sense as most of these people were music students who're passionate about what they listen to and are influenced by

This is such an incredible idea for a video. Reminds me of some of the videos where people are told that they are beautiful to see their reactions. It also says a couple things about music tastes. You can and CANT tell what people are going to listen to. It also shows how popular music tends to stick around. That sometimes our tastes in music are a product of our time and place. Now more than ever am I unsure about what music I want to listen to and why. I’m hardly ever sure I have preferences either. I guess that’s a beautiful thing to realize about art, we don’t HAVE to have preferences, and we don’t have to gravitate in any direction. And there is something to question why we have the preferences and appetites we have.
