Fantastic victory, I do hope Sagan picked up on my little tip for him a while back, he's got to use his brain to get more victories like this and not let bravado get the better of him like last year. If he can escape in small break aways i.e. not solo's or mass sprints and keep a cool head then many more victories will surely come his way, hope so. He's a class act and good for the sport. Another Rik Van Looy in the making.

I agree. Sagan has opened the gates of his 'era' i think. If he make tactical moves he could win GC in the grand tours, he could be the absolute legend like Kelly, Moser, Van Looy.

Modern cycling doesn't allow for a rider like Sagan to win both Paris-Roubaix and GC in grand tours. Riders are forced to specialise nowadays because the competition is so much more fierce and everyone is at the top of their game. The only ones that could come close to pulling off something like that are Dumoulin or Wiggins in recent years, one of which is retired. Regardless it remains a neigh impossible feat, which is a good thing.

Tend to agree, maybe Bugra means in top 3. Love Sagan , class act but he's a rouleur in the truest sense but definitely can't get over the mountains quick enough to be up there winning grand tours. Would have far better career focusing on the one day classics and stage wins. Lets hope they keep a cobbled stage in the TDF from now on as that was always a major part of the tour in the hardman days of Bernard Hinault and Jan Raas. Another thing we should campaign for is an 'everyman for himself' tour every 4 years as Henri Desgrange originally envisaged, it would make racing a lot more exciting and unpredictable at times and prevent career jeopardy such as Richie Porte in same team as Froome.

@@outtamaway I know that, but that was not what I was saying was it, talking about the tour de France, and I know that the world championships is a nod to the days of national teams. I'm not saying national teams , I'm championing notions of everyman for himself race where every 4 years would be contenders are not Jeopardised by team hierarchy and tactics. I feel like your cut and paste of my comment was a veiled attempt to belittle me, hasn't worked out has it.

I still can not understand why Dillier waited for Sagan to attack at last meters. Soon or later he would attack and you are desperate to counter attack in such a few meters. Why he just did not sprint in the stadium instead he waited for his follower to attack?

You are entering the velodrome against one of the best cyclists of this era and possessing one of the best sprint finishes of the peloton. As soon as you initiate an attack like that you are done. Sagan sits on your slipstream, you've probably spent all your energies after that initial attack and chances to surpass him in the last lap are 0. After a gruelling and demanding race, legs are not as fresh as they should be. That's why he decided to wait til the final sprint, if you were not able to drop him before entering the velodrome or at least several km's before, you gotta wait til the last lap. When Matthew H. won Roubeaix a few years ago he wasn't the strongest rider coming up the velodrome showdown and did the right thing. Took command and forced his rivals to overtake him, none of them couldn't. Sagan was in top shape coming up this Paris Roubeaix edition.

Sad for Switzerland. They were so close to another Swiss victory in Paris-Roubaix. For me, Dillier was the man of the day. Sagan escaped too easy. His chase and execution were brilliant though, but no one expected that Dillier would come this far. What a brave man!

he could have did better i agree that he did good helping sagan but after the last cobbles sector he could just stay more time in sagan wheel recover a little, and never but never launch a sprint in front, if your adversary is better he should be more smart, 2 place is great he did and outstanding stage, but damm i was furious when he put himself in front of sagan for the sprint , that was giving instant victory to sagan, but he deserved the victory

Not saying that because I’m Slovakian too but because it sounds to me very logic I guess
