all you had to do is tap the edge of the flywheel on opposite sides and it usually pops right off. kinda like drum brakes.
This one must have been really well stuck on, tried all the edge tapping ideas without success.
@@Bbeavis damn.. ya must of been! Good luck with the rebuild!! i'm just waiting on some refinished housings and its build time...can't wait!!!!
Nice work....Mornington 2011 RX8
Thank you Steven!
Wow, housing and rotors both toasted... Looks like a rebuild can't happen without a donor engine.
Indeed, new motor coming in the mail soon I hope!
that must be the most noisy autofocus in the world!
Hah, the camera doesn't even have auto focus, I have to manually trigger it. Ain't no money for fancy camera's when you spend it all on broken cars.
Yeh, a bit 2nd hand. Interesting strip down for you on a totally different type of donk. Chuck an MX5 motor in it, turbotted
Definitely a dud, it was still fun to pull apart.
How about putting in a 2.5 from the Ford Fusion, Mazda6, etc? That's a popular swap for NCs here in 'Murica.
Not considering any engine swaps here, we just want an original car that's running. Any form of engine swap would make the car mostly no longer road legal or at least much harder to register for road use.
Fun tip, loosen the ECC bolt before removing the engine, it's a bitch once the motor is out.
Thanks for sharing Robert.
@@Bbeavis Yeah, been there done that. Part of the problem is the high torgue spec of that bolt, I believe it's 350 ft-lbs. In the car you typically need a breaker bar and a huge pipe.
Bugger. Nice vid though. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks volvogt21!
If I can make a suggestion- There's a man named VARGAS, knows any/everything about "Doritos"(Hert w/Hoonigans) that you could dm for suggestions....could lead to a build colab?
Thanks for the thoughts Paul, in this case we're not looking for anything other than a standard engine, and being located in Australia, overseas workshops are well out of reach.
@@Bbeavis- completely agree. Suggesting Vargas was as a reference for ideas, not a Cali/Straya build.
It'll be an interesting process whatever you decide 👍👍🍻
next time dont unscrew main bolts one by one, they have a special sequence for disassembly
on a dead engine?
I always undo through bolts opposite each other, not really a set sequence like when you're putting it together.
@@Nebbia_affaraccimiei
side plates can be reusable, and after wrong disassembly could have micro cracks
don't ask how id know :D
Hey Spone85, I cracked them all in a star pattern by hand first before the old man went at it with the rattle gun. Don't worry we were all fine :-)
Very cool! What is the typical life expectancy of a rotary engine?
Some seem to say 100k miles / 150k kms for a normal road use RX-8 renesis. It depends on how the oiling setup was cared for.
Mate.. My 2011 RX8 From New Has 211 thousand kilomemetres on the clock.. MY Advice for owning a RX8 is Oil Change..! and Oil change... And Oil change... And so on... Yes oil change will make you RX8 drive with no Problems... 2nd Advice.. Don't Upgrade your RX8.! Keep your RX8 to every 10k to 15 K oil change. Don't get sucked in to power up your RX8... If you do. You will have Problems.. I don't My car runs just fine being a RX8 form Mazda
Interesting, I didn't know there were 2 Doritos in there
More flavour.
@@Bbeavis 😂
Youd think the renesis would be easier to take apart considering how bloody fragile they are.
Somehow, Mazda managed to make the renesis super complex.
What about a cheap Commodore V8 engine
While the donor car could be cheap, but getting it to fit, and making the car legal so that we can sell, would probably quadrouple the budget.
Has Layers and Can make you cry lol... I hate that I'm saying this because I'm a actually buying an RX8.
Feels very onion doesn't it.
@@Bbeavis Yes it does, makes my butthole burn 🔥! 🤣🤣
That's a big nut
Heyy :-)
Would be interested in buying the Renesis Plates if you still have them.
I do not have the old engine anymore.
Too many toasted housings. OE oil system feeds dirty carbon oil from crank, and too little of it
Those carbon also build up at the unpolished initial opening of side exhaust port and falls into the engine, causing that damage you saw on edge of the housing.
Buy new housing, use the SOHN adapter to feed only the fresh mineral oil, and premix a small amount to cover for the low amount of oil, especially during low RPM driving. And REPLACE vacuum hoses going to the oil injectors every 30-40k miles to ensure they NEVER leak vacuum. Leak there will KILL the engine
Yeah you are quite right, in this case we found a complete new replacement motor so didn't need to use any of these old worn parts!
The infamous devils nail marks claimed another victim. :(
I blame a previous owners poor maintenance Hah
Ecoboost time!
Haha, I'm not so sure we want to go quite that far.
If a guy has 12 grand to put into a rx8, ffs
“Stationary gihh”
:-P
Woop New project! 🤙
Weee
Am I the only who cringed when they saw them hammering the e shaft down by the nut because it that could sheer the threads.
Did you not see the part where the engine was cactus already?
@@Bbeavis After I made that comment.
Tony Abbott loves onions, just sayin… :)
Lol, weird comment but I guess it fits in with the context of things...
Surely "stick a V8 in it" is the only answer?
Haha, yeah, in my dreams!
Here's the technical term for it : it's fucked
Spot on!
I love seeing this I hope you can fix the rotary chambers. I see the hard damage, I have an rx8. Follow me on instagram! @stearod id love to chit chat
Thanks Vengence!
