I was searching on UA-cam for some good straightforward videos on clipping your own hair at home. I greatly enjoyed your video, excellent job with the overall cut. I love this option as well because I did not take care of my hair. I’ve been natural for 10 years and the past year and a half have done a horrible job with caring for my hair. Gurl, I love it! I have a license and every now and then I attempt to have someone in the salon to do my hair. Most of the time it is not a good idea but I still try. In the last experience, I had to take the bush out of the stylist's hand and inform her, she was not going to bush my thick azz hair with a small brush or comb my hair with a little tooth comb. I had to comb my own hair out and asked another stylist to blowdry my hair because I wanted my ends trimmed as well. I informed the stylist I wanted to watch her trim my ends and she is not to try and make my hair even because my length is in the back and the front is shoulder length. I have been natural for 23 yrs from loc, braids, twists and blowouts, and its been stress on the hair. Now it's the age and the hair is going through it so I try to keep low maintenance and no heat as well. Thanks for sharing your journey. Stay strong!
This video inspired my cut 6 months ago. My hair grows in layers and I wanted my hair to catch up, I didn’t want a stylist to layer it. My hair is soooo pretty now and the front of my hair has caught up with the back length and then some. Thank you for showing this method even though it isn’t conventional
I cut my hair into a bob, thinking it would be the best route to allow my front to catch up but 🤦🏾♀️ I ended up with heat damage. Currently doing protective styles and hope to for 365 days. Going to trim off my damaged ends after I take out my faux locs. Then I'm doing faux locs again!
I totally understand what your saying, i LOVE a blunt cut as well. I don't like layering or point cutting at all. I always cut my own hair because of that. I really enjoyed watching this.
You did better than most hair dressers. I’ve been trying to explain I want this layered cut to my hair dresser and the chic comes up with every excuse of why it can’t be done.
My hair is exactly like yours, for the most part, 4c/4b. I actually watched this whole video in awe. I always trim into a bob. I love a clean blunt cut too. I do my own as well. I dont like layers on me. I need everything to be even. Great job!
I've been to the hairdresser 3 times already to get a BLUNT trim and they always refuse to cut it 😠 I really don't know why the love their layers so much but I do NOT want it.
Lol. They like the layers and to point cut to get rid of the damaged ends where you dont have to sacrifice so much length and it gives body and tends to look nicer when back in the curly state. When your hair is damaged you dont just cut across because you would be neglecting the rest of the hair that split. Kinda like when we apply color to our hair , we tend to place it along the length of the hair but we also open the section up in the middle if that makes sense to make sure all the hair is coated. Kinda the same concept with the cutting. I hope this made sence. Lol. Peace and love.

You and Tierra J can cut your own hair in the back real good. I'm stretching my trims to 16 weeks to try to grow it out. I hate my ends because I'm used to getting 6 week trims. Lol! 🤣If I did nothing to my hair in a year I would be bald. If I want hair longer than an inch, I have to take care of it. My hair does not come to play. It will break off in a heart beat.
My hair is just like this, healthiest in the back, uneven towards the top. Has been for years no matter how many cuts I get. I just got a cut and have to cut again. It's been choppy for years! You're a magician with the ✂️ !
A lot of cornrows and whenever you not doing anything just braid your hair.. Apple cider vinegar rinse is very good grease your scalph.. deep conditioner treatment even when you wear your wigs you could have some in.. I was transitioning in the summer and cut it off late July and from then til now I feel like I didn't even cut it..
You are the bomb!! My stylist is one of the top stylists in my state. Her clientele is equally relaxed and natural. Believe it or not, she said a large percentage of her new natural clients have the most distressed hair. The biggest reason was that some go yeaaars without a trim because they automatically assume their hair is healthy because it's thick and growing in it's natural state - UNTIL they get over their heat fear and blow it out. That's when they see the true health of their hair, but still refuse to cut it for the sake of length. So they try their best to maintain "protective" styles that do the opposite. She also has this thing where she doesn't discuss the temp she uses because people place too much emphasis on temperature rather than tools, techniques, and product. Futhermore, outside of those not so protective styles - many resort to the "always wet look". She sometimes jokes and asks how many tubs of ecostyler is in their hair. Even had a few clients with moldy scalps.
You made me want to do a bob now! I haven’t wore my hair straight in a while cuz I been enjoying my curly 4B/4C hair and braids etc but we have similar hair textures I just have a LITTLE more length but this right here makes me really wanna consider a bob! Love the video !
Today for me. My hair is in the same situation as Chrissy. Low manipulation turned hair into a hot mess. My neglect was she to illness. I'm dedicated to staying on top of trimming my ends.
Thanks for proving that heat is not the only thing that can damage your hair. Using it correctly and getting regular trims will be better than no heat at all. People go YEARS without putting heat on their hair and then when they straighten it , it’s hella see through ends and gaps in their hair
We have the same type of hair. I do this like once every 6 months just to get old ends off. My hair normally grows fast, but I made the mistake of going to a salon to bring my ombre(that i healthily did myself) up a few more inches because i didnt want it to be an uneven bleaching. My hair melted off from ear down. I also have an undercut in the back, so with my crown so thin, you can see through even the healthy ends because of just how long the crown is taking to grow down. Somedays i dont even leave the house if I look at my hair long enough. My birthday is coming up and I dont want to do anything. I keep thinking of the big chop more and more, but it takes more time to manage short hair. Going to check out your newer videos now to see how your hair has been doing!
Wow! Thanks so much for the support. I’m sorry to hear that happened. I try to look at cutting my hair as an opportunity to start fresh. I love big chops and encourage you to listen and to trust yourself. 🤍
Thanks for doing this on camera! I’ve been wearing upart wigs and have damaged my hair. You gave me the courage to cut off some length too and start over.
Great job with those blessed hands 👌🏽👀💯❤️🔥 I took cosmetology... and I could cut great on others I’m about to attempt to cut my own ends... due to COVID pandemic I haven’t been to get it done ... thanks after watching your instruction, I have confidence I can do it now .... 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽❤️
knotless boxbraids...it was a game changer last year for my healthy hair journey. i spent the last year in mini twists and knotless and then blowing out and trimming bluntly and girrrrllllll i may never go back...this may be my "hair routine" from here on out.
That’s exactly what I did this year 😩 started growing my hair out last August, got braids twice - once in December and then again this past March. No trim, no straighten, nothing in between or since then until last month when I go to straighten my hair and my ends were JACKED all the wayyy up! I have taken INCHES off every time I blow dry and straighten since then but I still need to cut more off. So mad at myself. But your hair looks bomb and I agree with not cutting in layers. The way you cut yours makes it look so full throughout.
Yes I would love to see your hair when wet. It's like you read my mind. I want a blunt cut, I don't care for layers anymore especially since I am completely natural. I also don't want any point cutting. Just give me blunt ends.
You are amazing at cutting your own hair! I love this video, I need to get a trim so bad but my stylist isn’t working right now due to health issues so I might attempt to do it myself. My ends are so terrible!!
To say you are really really good at hand I coordination, it’s a freaking understatement, you slayed this cut I would not know how to do this at all, very impressive
You are amazing! And so RIGHT! I have never been able to get professional stylists cut my hair--BLUNT, ALL ONE LENGTH. They always point cut and add layers. Never works! Thanks for a great video.
This is my hair cutting tutorial for now on ❤️. My hair is long but been breaking off , I have my ups and downs so I'm definitely trying this, the scissor happy beauticians be pissing me off. Thank you for this video
You did a great job. Your hair looks so healthy and has alot of body now that you cut it. I feel encouraged now to do mine as I have not cut my hair for many years. I need to do it so it can grow better. Thanks for sharing your journey. God bless you
I get a trim every 3 months. Idk how people can feel comfortable prolonging their trims 😂 & I definitely don't feel comfortable cuttin my own hair either lol I wear my hair in braids (no extensions added) with a satin scarf covering it 24/7. I put my wig on when I go out & most of the time I don't even secure it down so I can throw it right back off when I get home 🤣 I don't use gels, edge control, or heat. The only time heat is applied to my head is on trim day. I thought about gettin a trim in it's natural state, but I just don't trust that idea.
@Brax According to my stylist, I could go longer than 3 months if I wanted, but I don't take risks like that. I'd rather get my lil 1/4 of an inch cut off every 3 months & keep it pushin. How much do you usually have to get rid of when you trim?
@@queenchocolate2876 I honestly don't know wat my length is 😂 during the earlier part of February when I washed my hair, I was wearing a length check t-shirt & my hair reached down 2 lines from the previous line it touched in December. Mind you, the shirt that I have is either a large or an extra large. It's really big on me so the lines start further down my back than it would if I had got my actual size. I'm actually due for a trim in about two weeks so I can update you on the length after my trim. When I used to get sew ins my hair would grow & my hair still grows with me wearing a wig, but I don't wear wigs that often. If I wear a wig, I make sure to take it off that same day.
I do the exact aame thing. Happy as hell to take that wig off and let my hair breath or moisturize it. I have noticed my hair has been getting thicker but idk whats going with my length. It seems like it wants to get thicker first then maybe it will grow 🤷🏾♀️
Cryssy I would love to follow you on your journey back to curly hair. I hope you keep us posted on this process. Thank you for your rawness. As a hair guru not many show the wear and tear it takes on your natural hair. So thank u boo🤗😚👏🏼
sakia johnson thank you for the support. I always enjoy showing a version of myself most ppl hide. This is real and I’m happy that I can be the example. 🌻
I've been on UA-cam long enough to see a few people's ups and down with hair, health issues, overstyling and that damn rice water challenge. Lol! Now they coming for co-washing(my scalp always refused it) and Devacurl. Thank God I rotate my products.
The white guy I'm dating has two spots which his barber calls a double crown. When the hair is shorter you see and feel it but when the hair is longer it disappears. I just have tighter finer curls in my crown so to me it's not as thich as other parts of my head.
I just kinda assumed that everybody has that crown area where the hair falls but looks like a bald spot. Mine makes a swirl. And yes some ppl have more than 1.
it’s called a cowlick. it’s basically the direction the hair grows in. so i have trouble laying the sides of my hair down because my hair grows forward and up.
Same here! never been afraid to cut my hair. Its just hair (: I now have a pixie cut i maintain/style/trim/and clipper cut myself and love it. Honestly I dont think i will be growing my hair our i will be that one gal with the short nia long cut forever lol . Enjoyed watching this babe! You cut it very well

That was equally as amazing as it was satisfying to watch! I’ve never seen someone cut their own hair that well. I have to step up my trim game.
Blunt in the back, layers in the front. Not complicated at all. That's how I cut my hair at home. Wonderful transformation. Subscribing now
You made me want to do a bob now! I haven’t wore my hair straight in a while cuz I been enjoying my curly 4B/4C hair and braids etc but we have similar hair textures I just have a LITTLE more length but this right here makes me really wanna consider a bob! Love the video !
This is exactly what I need to do! No layers in the back and it looks very healthy. Beautiful
Literally just did this last night. So healthy and flowing now.
Today for me. My hair is in the same situation as Chrissy. Low manipulation turned hair into a hot mess. My neglect was she to illness. I'm dedicated to staying on top of trimming my ends.
@@CharTurner6928 Same here!!
Amazing, i just want to cut my hair like right now, and it's midnight in France !!
Thanks for proving that heat is not the only thing that can damage your hair. Using it correctly and getting regular trims will be better than no heat at all. People go YEARS without putting heat on their hair and then when they straighten it , it’s hella see through ends and gaps in their hair
Big time facts. the people that go years end up just as bald headed unfortunately lmao take me for example. Im crying on the inside lol
ForeverCryssy
You are not bald ! Lol
You still have a nice length and full thick hair! People would kill to have hair like yours.
Wow!!! Girrrl u did good! Loving this cut . Wanna try it but I don’t trust my hands at all
my hair isn’t damaged but you make me want to cut it just to get that style😩. you did amazing
Looks so much better. I recently got my hair cut in a bob and I love it. My ends were TERRIBLE. I wore buns daily.
How the HELL did she cut the back of her hair with a mirror? Incredible.
I was thinking the same thing
My hair was ruined by a hairdresser but I can’t part with what is left, nor can I style it myself. You are truly talented.
ABSOLUTELY WHAT I NEED. WILL BE DOING THIS AS SOON AS IM OFF AT 7AM. THANKS SO MUCH DEAR YOU ARE GREAT. LOOKS GOOD GUIRRLLL
Yes indeed you brought it back to life ...love it!!!
Thanks for doing this on camera! I’ve been wearing upart wigs and have damaged my hair. You gave me the courage to cut off some length too and start over.
Love seeing hair trims! The cut turned out very nice :)
I’m excited to see more of your hair journey! Girl, your hair is about to flourish after this hair cut! 💙🥰
knotless boxbraids...it was a game changer last year for my healthy hair journey. i spent the last year in mini twists and knotless and then blowing out and trimming bluntly and girrrrllllll i may never go back...this may be my "hair routine" from here on out.
My hair did the same exact thing when I was transitioning. So I just did the big chop
Her hair looks so much better with those end gone. Bad ends will ruin your hair. Keep them tamed. Happy healthy hair journey.
I love it! This was so satisfying to watch!
To say you are really really good at hand I coordination, it’s a freaking understatement, you slayed this cut I would not know how to do this at all, very impressive
Gosh I wish I knew you so you can trim my hair like this because I haven't found a good salon to do a good trim in my city
You are amazing! And so RIGHT! I have never been able to get professional stylists cut my hair--BLUNT, ALL ONE LENGTH. They always point cut and add layers. Never works! Thanks for a great video.
The girls who do the “sloppy big chops” usually get good ass results tho 😂 but I’m glad you’re going on this healthy hair journey!
Blonde Rose big facts lmao! Until it’s time to straight and it uneven as hell. 😂
No they don’t.
ForeverCryssy exactly 😂😂😂
Nor Cal Y they do. It comes back way thicker and curlier.
This is my hair cutting tutorial for now on ❤️. My hair is long but been breaking off , I have my ups and downs so I'm definitely trying this, the scissor happy beauticians be pissing me off. Thank you for this video
It’s so pretty! I love the cut 😍
@@BoujeeBwiththeTea hey wats your length and does wearing braids grow your hair with you wig .. Instead of a sew in??
@@queenchocolate2876 So I just got a trim & my hair is bra strap length
Does everyone have that space in their crown where the hair separates? I always assumed that mine is a bald spot, but I’m not sure
This turned out fire!! Love the patience you have with your hair. It looks so much better.
The bumped ends we deserved growing up😭
Right instead of the James brown ones 😂
Thanks for the video. I stumbled across this video, and now, I am ready to move on with my hair. Lovely outcome. Kudos.
Who's here during Quarantine?🤷🏾♀️ I just took out my sew in and need to trim my ends.
Omg thank you so much for this video. I really thought I had to cut all my hair off and literally start over. Definitely doing this today
Same here! never been afraid to cut my hair. Its just hair (: I now have a pixie cut i maintain/style/trim/and clipper cut myself and love it. Honestly I dont think i will be growing my hair our i will be that one gal with the short nia long cut forever lol . Enjoyed watching this babe! You cut it very well
Randi Chantel I’ve always wanted to do a pixie cut! I’ve only ever done the big chop but wore it curly. Thanks for the support love! 🌻
I want a pixie cut but then I remember I live in the frozen North. An afro is good heat insulation. Keeps my head warm!
Thank you so much. My long hair has broken off and have the exact same concerns as you. Thank you for a real option towards my goal to allow the front to again catch up with the back.
Girl I would've been screwed 😩
I called it bald headed. I would be bald headed if I did no hair care for a year.
