Benson Amps has already made great strides in the land of Germanium fuzz-- creating a purely Ge fuzz that is stable and impervious to component drift, leakage and temperature change. During development, they came across a method using a voltage controlled error correcting circuit. Although it wasn’t a fit for the fuzz, it turns out it was the missing link to finally create a consistent Germanium transistor clean boost that is solid as a rock and not affect by temperature.
Unlike a treble booster, the Benson Germanium boost is clean and linear with no EQ shifts as the gain is increased. Benson also designed the circuit to avoid any input saturation that would normally occur with Germanium, increasing headroom and input impedance that will not thin out your instrument’s tone.
The applications of the Germanium Boost are endless with any instrument: think of it as a swappable transistor gain stage that can integrate with any pedal; converting Fuzz faces to Tonebenders or adding clean gain and the subtle compression and fatness we all love with this classic transistor.
The Benson Germanium boost is housed in a slick, low profile enclosure and accepts a standard 9V adaptor or battery. Check out the latest Germanium device at BensonAmps.com
