- Explaining how to farm torchflowers with sniffers in 23w07a
The trick with the mud design was fixed in a later snapshot. Use the big pen design.

of course ilmango finds a amazing way in a single day
Not to mention do all the recording and editing as well. Massive respect
Yes, but not on Skyblock, so it doesn't count
Scicraft are built different
"We have the allay here picking up the torchflower seeds and putting them into the hopper below."
Meanwhile, the Allay struggles to throw even one seed into the hopper.
Don't judge him, he's nervous on camera
no bulli allay pls
it work hard
looked so fun
This was the only mechanic that I thought wouldn't be so easily farmable, and yet the Redstone community never fails to amuse me with their speed
Meanwhile at Mojang HQ: we need to change how it works they figured out how to farm it
Even if they patch the thing that allows you to cram them all into the tiny space, the simple "big pen + allay" setup would do it easily
@@randomdude7386 this is what i hate about mojang. They seem to dislike automation.
@@iCore7Gaming I mean I get it when its something completely broken like 0 tick farms but if the mechanics in question arent completely unhinged I dont see why they would hate it
I disagree. They encourage auto farms in general.
But they also like to provide interesting mechanics for players who are not part of the technical community at all.
I suspect that the sniffers continuing to dig up seeds when stuck in the confined space is unintended and will get removed in a future snapshot, cause I figure the purpose of the remembered positions is to prevent exactly that.
I agree
It doesn’t make a lot of sense to work how it does now
yeah. easy fix to make them store head/sniffed location rather than entity location.
@@dbaker280
really only need sniffed block location, honestly don't know why they even have it to begin with....it's not like their byproduct is useful or anything....seems like needless requirements. it would be like tracking which block a sheep eat last and they wont eat from the same block again. it's just entirely pointless.
@@rocksfire4390
It’s just a quirk of the mob, like left handed mobs and turtle egg laying.
Would love it if the torch flowers would glow slightly. Maybe use that as a means to add in fire flies.
That would be way too useful for them to add
Unfortunately fireflies are deadly to sniffers :(
@@TheThirdPrice Lol.
Mojang is allergic to useful items. I'd imagine them trying to survive crippling AIDs everytime someone from Minecraft Feedback gives them good ideas
I'm kinda shocked that Torchflowers don't emit light. Like, it would be awesome if they could emit a light level based on their growth or something, or even just a static natural light for builds.
they could be very interesting for survival builds
and if mojang made it so that they could be turned into a torch variant
farmable torches
@@krek420 well, technically speaking, torches are farmable (sticks and charcoal) but I get ya
Personally, I think it should work more like the glow squid or spider/enderman eyes, where the lighting doesn't affect it. I think it would make for a cooler asthetic.
@@krek420technically the torches of the end portal are already farmable
Meanwhile with "glow"squids: ...
Classic mango move. Already farming something that isn‘t even in the game yet.
Xisuma literally yesterday: I don't think there going to be a great way to farm these. Ilmango: Hold my beer.
He was giving up way too easily, even I had some weird off the wall ideas that would probably work. They're way more complicated than this simplicity though. They'd be more for the wow factor of moving parts than practical. I'm not a good farm designer in general 😓
Mojang: This is the new amazing Flower
Ilmang: You can compost it of course
These torchflowers should give off a light level of 15 and be placeable wherever torches are. That would give them amazing utility as well as decorative ability.
Even if not that high it would be a great way to provide lighting that looks nice
Mojang: "The Sniffer - an ancient mob, long forgotten in time, but finally re-awaken."
Ilmango: "Let me squeez a ton of them into one spot to make a farm out of it!"
Mojang: "..."
Gotta love the farms always being out so quickly. And when I thought that this was a tricky one too!
Thank you ilmamgo.
Excited for the cherry blossom farm 🌸🇯🇵 :)
I was expecting a farm concept to be found this quickly, and i was not disappointed.
It helps that Carpet mod allows the tick warp command to do the equivalent of many hours of testing in just minutes
It's a no-brainer kind of farm though, it's easy to see how this could be farmed.
Lord I would love to see a mangetho collab.
we once played minecraft amongus together.
Thank you for another great video
So typical... The thing isn't even in the game yet when Mango already finds a way to farm it :)
ilmango unleashed and overpowered
I had the idea of something kind of like the peaceful panda slime farm where you have a conveyor of fresh sniffers and put the older ones "out to pasture" (I suppose you could really just have two sets that get ferried between different locations though, since they're still good once moved to another place). Doubt it's any better than any of these though :) Just a thought that came to mind as to how to overcome the position memory list limitation if it were being a real problem.
I just finished watching the other video. What a nice surprise.
This guy would be great to hear on an airplane before takeoff. Like him talking about the destination, weather and arrival time.
they should make a new color you can get from that flower, new wool and concrete blocks come with that. Perhaps it could be color changing like prismarine or something OR the dye can illuminate blocks, making them glow
a fire-like glow effekt maybe
@@philippw4769 That would be so cool! That would give it a much needed bonus use. Having extra plants for decorating is nice, but having extra plants with special properties, now that’s where it’s at.
They should make it give of the same light level of fire, and perhaps make it light entities that step on it on fire, like a wither rose, but a bit weaker
@@thespyfromteamfortress2568 doesn't fire also have lightlevel 15? I think that would be too much for a plant.
And setting stuff on fire would be op.
Maybe eating it could give the player nausia, because its a plant our gut didn't evolve for.
@@philippw4769 how is it OP? You have to find sniffer eggs which will be rare and make it walk around to dig up 1 seed at a time, meanwhile you can just trap 1 wither and have infinite witherroses
I don’t usually like theory classes or lectures but this man is an exception
Assuming they fix it, what if you hook this all up to a flying machine? So that it moves where the sniffer is and the dirt it’s searching
amazing!!!
Its just been a day
He is crazy
I was gonna comment on a snapshot video that "illmango will find a way to automate this", and then I saw this video.
Amazing as always.
I wonder how do you understand all these new mechanics, you just experiment with them or you read the patch notes?
The best way is decompiling and reading the source code to understand what they do, then try to optimize a farm from it.
The sniffer memory seems like a complete oversight glitch
I feel like the pen design is better than the smaller design. It looks a lot more easier to get the sniffer into the pen, and it's also less laggy.
Piston head won't destroy farmland if you zero tick the piston! I made a wheat mini farm that breaks the wheat with non sticky piston zero ticked once every 4 ticks.
Wow that was quick
you’re a beast
If you use honey instead of a glass border and put more grass or mud blocks under can the sniffer still reach those
"What is my purpose?" "You give me prehistoric seeds" "Oh my god"
du schaffst es, alles zu farmen 😂
for the larger field you could have alternating rows of mud and grass. the sniffer will stay at the full block height since they're 2x2, then you would maybe just need to either have minecarts under the grass, or shift the floor over using a clock every once in a while.
This is an excellent idea, I suspect the coordinate storing was to prevent exactly what is being used in the 5x5 farm, and will be patched in one of the coming snapshots
I knew i can trust my beloved Minecraft Engineer
What if Torchflowers could be used as a replacement for blaze powder for alchemy or blazepowder for peaceful mode would be cool.
Probably the best suggestion I've read so far. The people wanting it to be a light source are kind of missing the point - it's a vividly colored flower that looks like fire, not an actual flame. There are some plants like that in real life, with neon-bright oranges and reds. But an alternative to blaze powder for peaceful mode and pacifist play and other such situations, that's badly needed.
@@QuasarEE I think to make that more fair they'd need to make torchflower seeds pretty rare when more sniffer plants are added. Otherwise that's would be really useful, peaceful friendly blaze powder
That whole explored position being under the head but it digging up under the hitbox sounds like a bug that needs to be patched. That shouldn’t be possible but I love that it is
Mangoooo!
Translate to English for an extra o.
Roger Badgerman also leaked a couple other plants for this update on twitter, so torch flowers are likely just one of a selection of plants the sniffer can dig up.
I just commented on another video yesterday that I was wondering if you could farm anything from Sniffers.
Im surprised mango didnt notice the sniffer literally digging out a new seed in front of him
Does the sniffer's memory get cleared eventually? Will the position of a block get cleared if the block is replaced?
Wow its not even yet released mango and you already have a farm for it.. nice
You can also use villagers to plant the torchflowers and water to collect the plants!
Because of their code it's cool that they'll be the most wondering mob in minecraft
As soon as I heard that sniffers record in blocks I knew the solution would be to constantly conveyer belt them.
Oh, it's even simpler huh...
@@Tarage I had that idea too. Maybe it will become necessary after the no-fun-allowed squad at Mojang see this video and make a bunch of changes to try to "fix" it but until then it's an unnecessary layer of complexity I guess.
Maybe you can get over the limit with the allay not being able to move through the sniffers is to raise the ceiling.
ilmango did you try double glass to keep items not sure if that work on java minecraft though?
It does not work on Java I don't think, it could but I highly doubt it, I have been playing for 9 years and never noticed it lol. The most effective way to recover lost items would be to do like he said, put a water flow below the farm leading to a storage system, or some kind of hopper connection leading to a storage system.
Mango 1 question. Why make a farm on a mob with unfinished mechanics?
NOOO LOOK HOW THEY MASSACERED MY BOY
7:27 of course you’re curious how far you can push it. That’s like 90% of your existence.
Introducing the sni-- and it's farmed.
Ah yes. Another mob into our farm-list
I just had an idea. Might be a bad one, but here it goes.
A challenge run of Minecraft where you don't use bone meal at all. How much of a challenge would that be?
you could play terrafirmacraft if you like that
would floor shifting improve in some way the farm ?
Now, if only the torchflowers actually DID SOMETHING.
couldn't you hang vines inside the pan to stop the mobs from colliding so the allay can pick up items again?
Maybe blocks with vines on them can't be sniffed
New bug report: Farming torchflowers is too easy
What would say Peta about this farm!! Jokes aside, I'm amazed about the speed of the Minecraft
Torch flowers should admit light
you are missing the "particle":"block//hopper_outside" in your "hopper_side"model file
Happens in a lot of snapshots.
Why does Mojang keep accidentally breaking that particular particle? No idea.
Aaww yes! Enslave the fossil finaly!
I hope that zombies can not pickup the seed, bc when they can do, we have the same problem as the glowinc^^ sniffer digs out a seed, zombie picks it up and nerver despawn and create lag
lol. true. haven't even thought about that one. Pretty sure this one might slip through for a while
Imagine if Ilmamgo was on Hermitcraft!
That'd be a bit like there being two Docm's. :P
Can you please do a video on simple mob farms for items and experience since the 1.19.60 update my farms have stopped working. PS I don't believe mobs spawn in thin layers of water anymore. PPS if anyone has seen a video already about this please link thank you.
Esperança que tu ia fazer fari
Does this still work after the release?
(Edit) Tested it myself on 1.20.1, and yes, it still does. However, it's not really effective. I conducted two experiments with the duration of 8 hours, with 5 and 10 sniffers in this farm. The results were as follows: 19 torchflower seeds and 17 pitcher pods from 5 sniffers, and 37 of each from 10 sniffers. And again, that's after 8 hours of AFK. That is approximately 4,5 and 9,25 seeds per hour respectfully.
Sniffers might just be the most annoying mobs to farm anything with.
Do they dig up the flowers this fast while they free-roam, or does them being in the same space impede their efficiency?
@@ImmaculateOtter I honestly have no idea.
@@outcast4087 Gotcha. Well if you decide to test it out, I would love to hear a report of your findings!
(I'd do it myself, but I am unable to play MC for a while)
@@ImmaculateOtter well, I tested for a few days worth, and it seems like the sniffers do not stop producing the seeds, whether it was from an already "discovered" block or not. Though even if they do, and I just haven't reached that limit, four sniffers still produce enough seeds to breed themselves and make way more than four of them afterwards.
Zet inklisch is rieli ädoräble ;)
Classic
Cute
Hm, I liked the idea, that the sniffer couldn't use the same block twice. Would have made for some interesting farm ideas.
You would have to build a farm that automatically breeds new sniffers or maybe a moving farm based on a flying machine that always makes new block positions available.
As it is now you just have to put a lot of sniffers in a small box. Boring.
always the fastest!
Couldn’t you put twisting vines in the big pen to prevent them from colliding?
you need air above sniffable blocks
I'm not much of a technical guy, but I have a question:
Is it possible to make the floor of the farm a moss farm so that there is constantly a resupply of blocks for them to choose from? Or is it a fixed coordinate, and changing the blocks would not make a difference?
Interesting idea, but sadly changing the blocks would not make a difference because the sniffer remembers the coordinates.
Of course ilmango finds a amazing way in a single day.

@@ndererseje1077 I assumed so because like 3 other people have the exact same comment
mango what is the best way to farm diamond irl
경이롭다 ㅋㅋㅋ😂
I wonder how many remembered places before a sniffer starts causing significant lag compared to a no-memory sniffer
I'm no expert but it's just a few coordinates stored in the world file. Could maybe cause high memory usage if a sniffer has a ton and gets loaded but there's more data in other stuff. Turtles have a similar limited coordinate memory and every mob already has data. Pathfinding and collision is what causes the most lag.
@@thugpug4392I believe Ilmango said in the previous video that sniffers only store the last 20 coordinates
Torcher! The sniffer winning makes me sad
why do hoppers have missing breaking particles?
Probably just an issue with his texture pack
Oh
Dude immediately lmao.
Already!?
before this vid I thought you had to use like a moss farm to change the blocks constantly
That probably wouldn't help anyway, as I understand it the sniffer remembers the coordinates of the block, not the block itself.
@@Cyberguy42 thank for explaining that
Infinite ancient seeds from a couple of dirt blocks.
"Sniffable block"
Couldn't you rotate the floor to bypass the sniffer memory?
Iirc its coordinate based so not really
Well, the sniffer memory stores coordinates of the blocks, not the blocks itself, so, I think, it wouldn't make the farm faster
It works off of coordinate is so moving the blocks around wouldn't change it
Basically you either need to exploit their AI. Or have more than 20 spaces so that way their memory can cycle
NOT EVEN ONE SEC ADDING IT AND HERE"S THE FARM 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Does this work on bedrock???
The end rod is facing the wrong way ;)
I expect this to stop working before the release of the update. it is ovis this is not intentional.
hi
but do they deserve this fate
Until they hav more uses than just sniff
When sniffer farm? xD
SNIFFER ABUSE
Watched this right after Xisumavoid said that the ancient seed farms are gonna be hard to make 😂
unpopular opinion: 1.20 may be revolutional for the minecraft community
