Having been playing guitar for 30-odd years, it's really refreshing when bands like Polyphia turn things around. It's even more refreshing when folks like Jack break things down. Really enjoyed this video. Cheers!

Having a better time understanding generally how they are even coming up with some of the sounds gives me even more appreciation or how they see the music they are playing. It’s just fascinating. It would be cool to hear you play a song without the techniques they use then follow it up with how they actually play it. Just to see and hear the difference back to back. Anyways, well done! Excellent overview of the technical aspects of their playing. I am a bit confused by Tim's comment about avoiding using "boomer bends" given the frequent use of the whammy bar tricks. Sonically both accomplish the same thing. Anyway, great job with this video!

Hybrid picking is interesting… it gives a sharper attack on the bass notes and a softer attack on the treble notes with the option to flat pick the treble notes to sharpen it up. So it gives the speed of pure finger picking with a more aggressive attack on the bass notes, neat. Learning how to do it shouldn’t be too different than learning finger picking, it’s just that you’re holding a pick with your thumb and index and shifting your middle and ring fingers down a string and using your pinkie on the high e. As far as “boomer bends” go… they have their style and that’s great, but bending and tremolo are techniques that can shape your own unique voice with the instrument. Anybody that’s tried and failed to capture David Gilmour’s style can attest to bending being a thing that can set you apart as a guitarist. I have a feeling that at some point in the future Polyphia will explore this at some point in the future.

Musical convention is to refer to the area of the instrument where the lowest notes are found, as the “bottom”, or “low end” of the instrument. And conversely, the high notes are found at the “high”, or “top” end. So, it could be quite confusing for some your viewers, if they become used to your vernacular, and are then exposed to the conventional terminology. Anyway, just saying… Kia Ora

This is fabulous! So I noticed your using a Boss Katana; do you have it miced up or is it running though the amp via usb?
Through usb. Gives you a bit more option to tweak the sounds. Plus I don’t own a dynamic mic to mic it up with 😆
