Polyphia each album: Muse: Some dudes in suits Renaissance: Some dudes in Jedi robes NLND: Some dudes in oversized hoodies RTYWD: Some dudes in oversized sweaters
this is really great, love the idea of focussing on the foundation techniques more than just individual songs and riffs. it's the techniques that lead to those riffs in the first place.
I thought this was going to be a meme. But, I love Polyphia so I said what the heck. Let’s check it out. Wow, great video. I don’t play but I thoroughly enjoyed the video. Having a better time understanding generally how they are even coming up with some of the sounds gives me even more appreciation or how they see the music they are playing. It’s just fascinating. It would be cool to hear you play a song without the techniques they use then follow it up with how they actually play it. Just to see and hear the difference back to back. Anyways, well done! You are something special being able to break it down and explain what’s happening when they play. This video had it all! I am subscribing right now! Hopefully you will be doing more Polyphia!
Having been playing guitar for 30-odd years, it's really refreshing when bands like Polyphia turn things around. It's even more refreshing when folks like Jack break things down. Really enjoyed this video. Cheers!
that's what REALLY get's me about polyphia. Theyre all obviously... unreal in their talent.. it's that they changed the game. Any musician who has seen them play had their ideas about music changed
Misleading thumbnail.. you can't have your strap that low and play polyphia songs. It requires dorky high strap height lol. You can't look like a badass low strap rocker while playing plinky dinky stuff. Case in point all your demos are sitting down aka designed for bedroom guitarists. Nothing wrong with that, just pointing it out
hey man nice video but a tip, if you are telling people to get some plugins or something like that make sure to put the links in the description. would be easier ;D
Just discovered your channel but gotta say thank you for this! It's not stuff I wasn't aware of but seeing you break it down like that is very cool. Will definitely start practicing my hybrid picking for my music. :)
Loved your intro demo! I may not be able to play it for the next year or two, nonetheless bought your tab/backing track just for support of your channel. Way to go!
Great video, and you’re obviously a tremendous guitar player, with great technique. Which is why I was so surprised to hear you refer 😅to your low E, A, and D strings as the “top” strings. Musical convention is to refer to the area of the instrument where the lowest notes are found, as the “bottom”, or “low end” of the instrument. And conversely, the high notes are found at the “high”, or “top” end. So, it could be quite confusing for some your viewers, if they become used to your vernacular, and are then exposed to the conventional terminology. Anyway, just saying… Kia Ora
Oh man I didn’t even realise haha. My bad. Hopefully my points still get across. I’ll have to keep an eye on this in future videos. Thanks for pointing that out to me
way ive been learning hybrid is by playing while doing an okay hand 👌with my right hand and only using 3 fingers on bottom 3 strings and just play about with stuff over time
Ummm, I’d like to play like Tim Henson. He’s obviously classically trained. Probably picked up the guitar at age 2. My favorite guitarists? Alex Lifeson, Eddie VanHalen, and Tim. So intimidating. Humph! Hey, I can play ‘Smoke on the Water’! With that, I’m ready to tour. Tickets available at the box office.
I respect tf out of Polyphia for their talent and influence, especially to young people wanting to play guitar again, but their music to me just seems like too robotic and not enough soul for me. It’s just my opinion, not hating in any way it’s just not for a lot of people. Sometimes less is more. I’d rather there be more of a simple groove or melody than a million notes and too much going on. But I do think it’s cool that they aren’t afraid to experiment and think outside of the box.
I get now, why i can't get into this playing at all, it's because it's heavily based on Trap and Hiphop music, a genre of music I have not shits about, I see now.
Wow, the fact that you can play like that is amazing because Tim's playing is hard. Awesome video. My 44yrd hands can't keep up with you young guys but it's still cool to watch.
Excellent overview of the technical aspects of their playing. I am a bit confused by Tim's comment about avoiding using "boomer bends" given the frequent use of the whammy bar tricks. Sonically both accomplish the same thing. Anyway, great job with this video!
Step 1: oversized hoodie
Step 2 : nEcc tAt
@@riel8808 damn i guess I don’t got enough money to be a good guitarist
@@_rising_sun_ a good guitar costs more than a little neck tat
I would also add, fluffy slippers

That little opening riff was fucking crazy. Super dope man
Awesome tips man! Thanks! 🙂
awesome video, great breakdown, thanks so much!
Awesome video. What model Charvel is this?
San Dimas Style 1
as amazing and incredible as this is. i hate modern guitarist cause they’re just simply better😢

THAT OPENING RIFF WAS SICK.
This TUTORIAL Is PURE GOLD. Congrats for your work. Greetings from Chile
the new video idea, how to make music like polyphia: keep dreaming

POV your playing polyphia
Your hoodie draw-strings get caught in your guitar strings. 💀

Bro i've loved Midnight for so long now. Youre music is great
Very good, man. Great explanation! This is from an former boomer bend player.
My guy, you're awesome. I hope you get the recognition you deserve.
I really notice the inspiration from goat for that riff
hey man nice video but a tip, if you are telling people to get some plugins or something like that make sure to put the links in the description. would be easier ;D

Nice playing Jack, cool to see someone from NZ copping this style
Awesome !!!! thanks. for the inspiration man, ur so underrated!!
helpful as fuck
could you analyze some older songs like ivory or light?
Loved your intro demo! I may not be able to play it for the next year or two, nonetheless bought your tab/backing track just for support of your channel. Way to go!
Thank you!
Bro your awesome, thank you for this, I'm looking to learn how to play this type of guitar style
Great video, and you’re obviously a tremendous guitar player, with great technique. Which is why I was so surprised to hear you refer 😅to your low E, A, and D strings as the “top” strings. good tutorial - pay attention to how less is more with these tones.
way ive been learning hybrid is by playing while doing an okay hand 👌with my right hand and only using 3 fingers on bottom 3 strings and just play about with stuff over time
HOOOLYYY WHAT....that sounds so much like polyphia
I keep rewinding that intro riff 😅😂😭🔥🙏🏽
this video motivates me to play more polyphia
Thanks for the video, do you know which mix of scales Tim or polyphia play? sounds like a mix of Lydian + melodic minor/dorian to me
You might be saying to yourself “how do I learn as many riff by Polyphia as possible?”
I love this stuff! Could you make an updated version for album IV
Ummm, I’d like to play like Tim Henson. He’s obviously classically trained. Probably picked up the guitar at age 2.

Did my guy just wammy without a bar?
Step 2: tattooed hands
Step 3: Feathered mullet
Step 4: Wardrobe from Hot Topic or Forever 21
This guy definitely rocks. Is it great to still look like you're not even 18?
Great video. I don't even play but enjoyed watching your video.
Lots of legato is also a big part of their playing. It was the hardest thing for me to learn to do well for some reason
yeah, same here
This is fabulous! So I noticed your using a Boss Katana; do you have it miced up or is it running though the amp via usb?
Through usb. Gives you a bit more option to tweak the sounds. Plus I don’t own a dynamic mic to mic it up with 😆
@@JackRollinsonMusic Keep up the great work, man! Looking forward to seeing more from you
@@_rising_sun_ Thanks! :)
Bro ,you can replace tim and scott anytime . Why don't you form polyphia 2 ?
I respect tf out of Polyphia for their talent and influence, especially to young people wanting to play guitar again, but their music to me just seems like too robotic and not enough soul for me. Very logical and anaylitic tutorial with deep understanding. It was really helpful to me to understand new hype guitar style.
I hate newer/modern Polyphia, they turned a guitar sound into endless tuctuctuc. P.S. but great video
Son of a bitch that intro riff was damningly good. I'd gladly buy TABs for it. Way to go, man!
bro ur a legend for this upload. Good stuff man ❤
If im learning and i have not been learning for more than a week, could i start learning these techniques or are very advanced?
Dear Jack I think you should get together with Max
Hybrid picking is just finger picking using a pick in place of your thumb and adding a pinky.
these are the same techniques that have been around for ages but now let's use them to awkwardly play hip hop/trap using a guitar?, meh
what if i play fingerstyle?? im a classical guitarist and i want to get into polyphia
What Guitar are you playing in this video? Can you send a link?
I dont get why they dont use bends. Like.. What?
So your saying, its super easy... barely an inconvenience
What are the riff(s) starting at 2:59? I've hear tim henson play it alot in videos but from which song?
I actually thought it was a memes, but instead i get the real one
Its like manuel gardner fernandez and tim henson had a baby
Great Video. thsnk you for this informstive video^^ i might hsve jist found my new fav music channel :)
bro has that tosin abasi picking technique lol
How many hours a day did you practice to learn this?
Wow, the fact that you can play like that is amazing because Tim's playing is hard. Awesome video. My 44yrd hands can't keep up with you young guys but it's still cool to watch.
Very good explanation thank you
How can i make this with a positive grid spark
How to play like OR
How to Look like polyphia
Yeaop already subbed🔥🔥🔥🔥intro*
When I saw the title I expected this to be a meme video. Like the jhoff films how to be a metal vocalist videos.
1 minute in the first time seeing you and I subscribed
Nice video
can anyone tell me his guitar brand or name?
Excellent overview of the technical aspects of their playing. I am a bit confused by Tim's comment about avoiding using "boomer bends" given the frequent use of the whammy bar tricks. Sonically both accomplish the same thing. Anyway, great job with this video!
More tuts please
You very good at it
Step 2: practice as much as possiblr
Lol I have a long road ahead to get to that lvl 😅
Damn bro you friggin’ rip. Good job!
That intro riff was nuts
What scales does polyphia use
what kind of amp do you have?
my dude playing like Tim but he got a thumb like tosin
Bro, the riff that you did at the beginning is just incredible if you have the tab I'm interested. Good evening
Tab is available through the link in the description:)
Can you play it like Chon??
meh all those "tech-guitarists" like Polyphia just boring. Yeh they "skilled" but senseless. Suits for zoomers tho.
super helpful video thanks
U need 2 make your own album
Step 1 practice ten hours a day for 15 years there are no shortcuts
think it would be cool if you showed how you produce the rest of the track (drums, bass etc)
Gr8 video! keep it up!
awesome video, good job!
Great video tremendous guitar play so much talent can inly get better work hard effort pays off
Totally thought you were at 100k subs! Thanks for the breakdown!
Best video I found.
Learn classical guitar. When you go back to electric guitar you can't not hybrid pick
This is true
You're insane. Lol.
Is a very good video man!!!
Wheres the guitar from?
Soooo good. Deserve way more subs
