  • In this new Episode of "Tell Me More" British political scientist Matt Goodwin discusses the seismic shifts in British and Western politics. From the rise of right-wing populism and the disconnection of elites to the fallout of Brexit and the future of the Conservative Party, Goodwin offers a an analysis of current political dynamics. He explains to Jochen Bittner why he believes the counter-revolution against the new elite is stronger than ever and what this means for the future of democracy.

    What incredible power of analysis, opinions and feelings informed by real knowledge and understanding. Rather depressing, too, because when some of MG's intelligence lays it all out, one item after another, unhysterically and clearly, one is left wondering who the hell to vote for or even whether to vote at all.

      That problem is worsened by the totally unfair system of voting, whereby 34% of British voted for Labour, leaving 66% didn't, yet Labour won a landslide of 400 seats. What is the point of voting when a government is supported only by a minority of people?

    Matt Goodwin, just applied a surgical castration to the state of political Britain. His analysis on the conservative party was devastatingly impressive, leading one to believe that the patient was already deceased, and it was an autopsy he was conducting.

    To put it in context and apply it to Germany, Matt Goodwin would probably vote for Hubert Aiwanger from the "Freie Wähler", the coalition partner of the CSU in Bavaria.

    Listening to Rishi Sunak the day after the election, I gasped. What planet was he living on? He meant well, but never understood anything about Politics. Look at Nigel Ferage, five minutes in the game and five seats, with 14% of the Vote. We must have PR. Labour had a 34% gain, with 412 seats . Lets see, it's early days yet, but Labour are in for a rough ride. Britain is broken.

    I wish political analysts would stop talking about "Islamism". This is a term made-up by Westerners. No self-respecting Muslim would refer to an Islamist! This distinction between Islam and Islamism is being made so as not to put Islam in a bad light; so, Islamism is supposed to be radical and political Islam, whereas Islam is supposed to be the religion. Fact is, however, that anyone who understands anything about Islam knows that Islam is nothing if not political. In fact, Islam is more political than it is spiritual! Even the Ayatollah Khomeini said - correctly as it happens - that Islam is nothing if not political. What people are referring to when they speak of Islamists is Muslims who take their faith seriously and follow the way(s) of their prophet - the Sunnah. Islam is actually winning in the West because Westerners refuse to accept and acknowledge the true nature of Islam, probably out of fear.

    • @stephenphillips4984

      You don't get it, do you? Goodwin wants Labour to win in order to remove the (un)conservative MPs so that Reform can create in the coming years a proper, new Conservative movement. Unlike you, he understood that voting Reform could never achieve this objective, as it will take several years for Reform to replace the Conservative Party. Too many people were going to vote Labour. His vote was a tactical one to help eliminate the Tory Party.

  • @nealrcn

    One things Reform or Conservative's or Republicans hate and know one talks about it. If any of these parties win an election is because we let them. Labor or Democrat is the largest voting block by miles.

    Liebe Zeit, ich bin ein wenig verwundert über dieses Gespräch. Herr Goodwin wirkt auf mich nicht wie ein Experte, der einordnet (was ich von einem Politikwissenschaftler erwarten würde). Er scheint einfach sehr konservativ zu sein und seine persönliche politische Meinung zu vertreten. Ich hätte mir an manchen Stellen ein wenig mehr kritisches einhaken gewünscht. Alleine wie oft der Begriff “gender ideology“ gefallen ist und teilweise Strohmannargumente verwendet wurden (Kinder sollen sich eins von 100 Geschlechtern aussuchen) etc…. das wirkt auf mich eher wie Kulturkampfterminologie.

      How can you think he's not a good political scientist when the entire discussion was based on his analysis of political entities, events, ideologies, policies, etc? How would you explain the rise of populism in Europe?

    • @shelleyscloud3651
      @shelleyscloud3651 Місяць тому +6

      @@AinsleyGovanindeed, Matt would tell you himself his political home is more to the left than suggested above - or at least until the world went crazy- and for example he was against Brexit. His advice is less based on his own personal preferences and more on what he’s learned from polling the public on political issues. As to the gender thing, an NHS group just announced there are 21 genders. Though I really don’t understand why people dismiss the so called ‘culture war’ as a phantom or irrelevant side issue anyway. Everything in society flows from and back into its culture.

    • @Paul-su7kg
      @Paul-su7kg Місяць тому

      @@shelleyscloud3651 That is just wrong! The NHS did NOT recognise 21 genders. All they did was to display a banner that showed 21 different flags that are commonly used in the queer community: some of them included gender-identities. But most of them were just sexual orientations such as gay or lesbian. So according to your logic my gender (as a gay man) would now be „gay man“ which is RIDICULOUS because I‘m just a man (that’s my gender) and I happen to be gay (that’s my sexual orientation). It’s not that difficult to get and sth that can be googled in 2 Minutes. Concerning the gender identities on the banner(there were 8 if I counted correctly): a lot of them are a bit redundant so you have a lot of different terms some people use that describe kind of similar things. That is because there is no such thing as a „official secret gay agenda“ that could dictate queer people the terminology they should use. Queer people don’t have a central organisation or sth like that so many people start labelling similar things differently. So For the most part when it comes to genders there is men, women and then theres a bunch of identities where people don’t identify as men or women (they might feel like a mixture of both or the it’s changing or that none of the two genders really fit). So I personally would call people that fall into this third category „nonbinary“, because none of the two binary genders (man & women) fits. Maybe not everyone agrees with this way categorising it but for me personally that kind of makes sense. Although I‘m not trans myself so there a certainly people who have more expertice☺️. So when the gentleman from the video implies, that children are supposed to actively choose from about 100 genders, he is actively and deliberately misrepresenting what it means to be trans! He‘s making it sound as sth that’s absurd and therefore I‘d say he’s not neutrally representing facts (which id what I‘d expect from an expert). Plus: I don’t see children getting constantly asked if they are really really sure if they know what their gender is…. It’s about explaining children that trans people exist or that gay people exist etc.. and that’s it. For example when it comes to sexual orientation: I as a gay man hated it when people asked me about my sexual orientation before I came out, because I was scared of other people knowing. But it made me feel good, when homosexuality was mentioned in a non hateful and just normal way. That was something that helped me accept myself as I struggled quite a lot at coming to terms with my own sexuality. So Information and actively/ constantly asking in non appropriate situations are two very different things!
