In this animated sequel, after months of preparation for their wedding, former street thief Aladdin (Scott Weinger) and his beloved Princess Jasmine (Linda Larkin) are close to the big day. When Aladdin learns his father, Cassim (John Rhys-Davies), is still alive, he tracks him down. Cassim says he's been hunting the Hand of Midas, which turns everything it touches into gold. Aladdin invites him to stay at the palace, but Cassim's obsession with the Hand soon grows too strong for his new life.

For anybody who watched the TV series, there's a fantastic Easter egg at the end. When Aladdin and Jasmine are walking back down the aisle after the kiss, all of the people they pass by are the friends they made in the course of the 90+ episodes of the TV series.

@@lilybethkuhn9650 Oh yes, it's from back in the mid-'90s Disney Afternoon era. I think most of it is on UA-cam now and thank god for that because Disney likes to ignore that it ever even existed despite how good it was. It's never even been released on DVD let alone things like Disney+. 😩

I thought Dan Castelleneta did fine in the previous one and the series, but it was good to have Williams back(I doubt Williams would have done the entire TV series for some reason...though all the actors from the movies did.)

Fun fact: Cassim (Aladdin’s father) is played by John Rhys-Davies who previously played in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark & later on The Jungle Book 2

Crazy movie theory...So Aladdin in the first movie asked to be a Prince as his first wish...Cassim is the "King" of thieves, so technically Aladdin still is a Prince ! Also, there is the theory that it might be his fault that Cassim was made as the king of thieves !! If you go into deeper lore about Djinn, their wishes in old tales always have a bad twist to them...but it's Disney so.
Its my headcanon that at the moment Aladdin made the wish, Cassim took over the 40 thieves

The King of Thieves ranks second place among the other Aladdin films, with the first one being the best one imo. In the original script of the first film, Aladdin’s mother was part of the story. I think it would’ve been interesting to get to know the character had she made it in the final cut.
With Aladdin’s father present in this film, it was interesting to get some insight on him and what he was up to all this time and also how he became part of his son’s life after so long. Thanks checking out this film, Tim!🙂

@@breezy3392 Perhaps be the voice of reason, her son’s guidance into making the right decisions, like being true to himself. I know Genie played that role in the first film, but it couldn’t have hurt to have two sides of the same coin.
Technically all Aladdin did was wish him free he didn’t give up his powers at least not in the animated one in the live-action spoiler become human
After Aladdin freed Genie in the first movie, it broke his bonds of servitude. It doesn't matter who rubs the lamp now, Genie wouldn't have to do jack for them. lol
Also Genie's powers were rendered "semi-phenomenal, nearly cosmic" after being freed. I believe that was stated in Return of Jafar but it's also mentioned a couple times in the TV series. 😊

According to Genie in the TV series if someone rubs his lamp now he can still hear/sense it, but it's only as if someone's ringing his doorbell, no obligations to actually come and fulfill any wishes
funnily enough, Tim calling the Oracle Genie's love interest reminded me of the episode where Genie mentions the rubbing = ringing his doorbell feature, since it's also the episode where he did get a love interest XD Eden, the Genie of the bottle

Yep. It was partially to remove any kind of deus ex machina powers of Genie fixing everything in the show.
If only Cassim could see his family was the ultimate treasure years earlier, but Aladdin still married Jasmine, maybe things could've been a lot better.
Imagine if they put Agrabah again in KH4.

I held off watching this movie for years. It wasn't until Disney + that I decided to watch it to complete the trilogy. I do agree that this is better than the Return of Jafar. There were high stakes, action and drama AND Robin Williams is back?! What a combo!
Weird how jasmine was harsh on aladdin for lying about iago, but his dad? Jasmine probably was like "i get it. I'd do anything for my dad"
She says so later. When Razul is accusing Aladdin for freeing his father and being a criminal and when Iago tells them that Cassim was captive Aladdin lashes out saying "it was how choice to choose that life" and Jasmine says that she understands he risked many things to save his father and that she would have done the same.
You should check out the Aladdin series. Not necessarily for this channel, but in general. It takes place after Return of Jafar and it’s all their adventures they go on before the events of this movie. The entire Aladdin saga are stories the merchant was telling.
This is my favorite movie. So much surprises,😱 excitement😁 and great songs, especially Welcome to the Forty Thieves.🎵❤️ RIP to both Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottifried for making the movie amazing😭☠️

I also enjoyed Little Mermaid 2 as well as Cinderella 2. They were very nice and decent sequels
"Why can't you just change the rules?"
Because changing rules suddenly can easily have consequences, especially in things like gangs, thieves, or otherwise); if you're not careful, you're liable to get knifed in the back, or in your sleep by these people for such things - Cassim was already using his wits to keep himself alive/keep the group from being even worse, and changing the rules in front of all of them would've resulted in mutiny on the spot, or very close to it even at best.
^That would've resulted in a 40(ish)-to-2 battle they couldn't win or run from, which would've been suicide.
Yep, he already got a lot of flack from people like Sa'Luk just for the 'don't hurt the innocent' rule he added. Anything more than that and he'd have a mutiny.
Aladdin’s dad is the king of thieves… now it all makes sense why Aladdin is labeled a street rat and steals food to survive, poor guy had a hard time making money and working for what he wants.

It was supposed to happen in the original ending of the first Aladdin movie.

Okay so I want to give a rundown on some of the impressions Robin was doing throughout the film you probably didn't know:
Rocky Balboa,
Don King (boxer),
Walter Kronkite (longtime newreporter for CBS who died around 2010 and he was the man who shared the news that JFK died),
The Marx Brothers (Groucho, Harpo, and Chico real life brothers who did many comedy films together in the 30’s and 40’s),
Bob Hope and Bing Crosby (the duo did many Road to films together), and when Tobin says Brooke Shields he is referring to a desert film she did called Sahara,
Ozzie Nelson was a man who played a character version of himself in a 50's show called The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet,
Also if the voices of Cassim and Saluk sounded familiar they were John Rys Davies and Jerry Orbach. Davies was Sallah in the Indiana Jones films and Gimley in Lord of the Rings while Orbach was Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast.
This is my favorite Aladdin sequel. And it’s mainly because of it’s plot.
This one is way better than The Return of Jafar.

I have to agree.... this one is much better than the second . I do Love all the ALADDIN movies but this one is my favorite . I enjoyed your reactions and commentary for this more than just watching the movie by it's self . Some of the dialog and scenes were over the top but if I have learned anything by watching Robbin Williams in it is that he is usually over the top and that's a bonus . Thank you so much for this Sunday treat I really needed this .
Got a genie wish hack.
1: rub the lamp and make your first wish.
2: wish for 100 more GOOD genies.
3: wish this one free.
1: run the lamp and make a wish with the second genie.
2: make a second wish
3: release this genie.
Repeat this process and on the 99th, just in case, repeat the first wish. That way you get to be fair and help the genie after granting many wishes. Personal or for the benefit of society and the world. Cuz you know with all those wishes I’d be doing A LOT to make things better
I grew up with this movie when I was young, so it hold a special place in my heart more than the first movie

This is probably one of the best animated direct-to-video movies produced by Disney.
Alladin used his 3rd wish to set the genie free and created a friend not a slave. Genie has no lamp now.
It may have only been for a few seconds, but this movie was as close to a Mrs. Doubtfire sequel we got.

Loved the reaction. It was great to hear Robin’s voice again. Not sure if it was pointed out, but Jerry Orbach, Sa’luk, was also Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast. Pretty cool as well.

It's not fully explained in the movies, but according to legends and information from historical remains, it works like that the genie is imprisoned in the lamp until someone sacrifices one of their wishes to wish the genie free. After that, the genie is free to do whatever he wants, his power remains with him because he is only imprisoned in the lamp. Genies are not ordinary spirits, but supernatural beings, they are basically something like spirits, only with the difference that they are not the souls of the dead, but ancient souls created when our world was created and they have their own spirit world next to ours. And another explanation of how some genies got into the lamps: On the Internet and in historical remains, it is said that in ancient times, rituals were quite often performed that summoned a random genie from their world and people magically trapped him in a lamp to fulfill their wishes through his power. But for most of the genies, it was that god himself imprisoned them in the lamps, because they had so much power that they were able to get into our world, most of them were evil and wanted to rule. That's why it's good enough to make sure that the genie you want to release from the lamp is a good one 🙂.

The water didnt turn gold, its the palaces gold color being reflected onto the water.
The same way the sky is blue because of the oceans water reflecting onto the sky.

You got to love the voice acting...Cassim is voiced by John Rhys-Davies aka Gimli in Lord of the Rings !! What a beautiful exemple of a man prisoner of his own life...Also because its the end of the serie, Mozenrath was supposed to be also revealed to be Aladdin's brother, but with the death of Jonathan Brandis, you couldn't do it anymore...
This dude was everywhere. He was Gimli and Treebeard, he was Macbeth in Gargoyles, another Disney production, and many many more. He is a very renounced actor.
Also the Oracle is Mo'at
One thing I never got is after the genie became free the shackles on his wrists came off. But in the next 2 they are back on his wrists.

Aladdin freed Genie in the first movie so no one can request wishes anymore. His lamp is a novelty now, it doesn't hold him anymore 😊 just fyi
I genuinely love this move more than even the first one. The first one does have the best animation though. It has a more serious tone despite its comedy. That final scene with the hand of Midas feels kind of ethereal with the music choice, the panning camera, and the stakes. Cassim's addiction for adventure and treasure and ultimately reevaluating what is most important to him is pretty touching, especially as I get older. It's why the Oracle says he is "trapped in their world." Not physically, but mentally. He was stuck on his fixation, only to find what was more important to him.

Aladdin and the King of Thieves is one of the good Disney sequels. It deserves more credit than it's given.
I really love the Aladdin 3 movie, but this movie feels so different without Jafar as the main villain in it.
They should make two new television shows that’s based on Chowder and the marvelous misadventures of flapjack called Iago and pain and panic starring Alan Tudyk Nick Kroll and John Mulaney.
For "King of Thieves", one of the original ideas for the plot was going to be the revelation of one of the tv series biggest villains as Aladdin's brother as well as finding his father. Mozenrath(voiced by Johnathan Brandis)was roundly called "Jafar Junior"and was a master of the mystic arts and the antithesis to Aladdin. However, I'm not sure if the plot was cancelled or it was changed because Brandis committed suicide.
As someone who watched the animated series growing up, it was great to see several characters we'd met during the series at Aladdin and Jasmines wedding at the end.
Many people consider "Aladdin" a sweet farewell to Robin Williams, but for me, this is the goodbye to Gilbert Gottfried. Iago was one of my favourite characters from the Aladdin series because he was sort of an anti hero. He was greedy, selfish and cowardly, but he had his heart in the right place sometimes and did the right thing when it counted. And Gottfried always brought his A game to the character.
RIP Gilbert.
When I first learned that a couple years ago I was like ok that makes sense because I was always curious why Mozenrath looked like Aladdin.

As an Aladdin sequel I'd say it's... Better than Return of Jafar. But then again, Return of Jafar was made as the pilot for an animated series (which they actually made).

The reason Robin Williams wasn’t in the second movie, is because the Disney execs betrayed his wishes not to be used in the marketing for the first movie. They had repaired their relationship by the time the third one came around.

6:20 If you're at all open to reacting to a play on the channel, there's an AMAZING Aladdin parody musical on youtube called Twisted, by Starkid. Idk if you've ever heard of A Very Potter Musical, but that was them too. They're a theater troupe where Darren Criss (Glee) got his start. The show is raunchy and hysterical with an actually incredible story and fantastic songs. It's genuinely so clever, and pokes fun at not only Aladdin and other Disney movies, but Disney as a company as well. Basically it's a twist on the first movie told from Jafar's POV, where he's the good guy (kind of like the musical Wicked). It was filmed professionally and put on youtube free like the rest of their shows, and I literally cannot recommend it enough.

This is mine and my fiances favorite aladdin film
this is a great example of a well made sequel, they gave us more everything, Robin Williams had so much fun with this, they gave him a lot more to do :) there is a lot of great action thanks to the 40 thieves who are a much better antagonist than Jaffar who was just a boring oh Im such an evil wizard look at my evilness, this bunch was much more entertaining :D the story is more rich and intriguing thanks to the father being introduced, the first one had a very simple story that wasnt that interesting, a beggar seeking wealth, been there seen that, kinda boring :P gotta appreciate here how well they did with both the start and the finale, they started it with a big bang and also ended it on an epic finale :) the music is also great :)

Midas est un roi qui avait secouru le dieu Dionysos qui lui a accordé un souhait. Midas a demandé à avoir le toucher d'or et s'en est servi sur des objets de son palais mais l'a regretté car il s'est rendu compte qu'il ne pouvait ni boire ni manger à cause de ce don et a demandé à ce qu'on le lui retire.

Genie was released to be his own master. so, he isn't bond to a lamp life anymore by masters, he is free and his own master, but it doesn't mean all of this magic was taken away from him.

Everything you could have wanted for an Aladdin sequel done right. Even the songs are great. Aside from Iago being on the team, Return of Jafar may as well not have existed. Coincidentally this isn't the first time John Rhys-Davies has played the estranged father of a legendary adventurer hunting for treasure in the third movie of a trilogy.

I wish you could react to the aladdin tv series, pretty cool fun adventures, and pretty awesome villains. Too bad it's not in disney plus which i really don't understand why they still haven't added that show. Like come on, it's unfair 😭
Also fun fact! Aladdin actually got a crossover episode with hercules where hades and jafar freaking team up and trick aladdin and hercules to fight each other.
Although i'm not so sure if that episode is from the aladdin series or the hercules series which btw yes, even hercules got it's own tv show that takes place before herc became an adult 😃
