Awesome movie
White noise reacts also reacted to this on his own channel, first time reaction, doesn’t make sense.
What they did with Hades is really unique for Disney, instead of making a generic sinister and maniacal villain he acts more like a businessman or a lawyer and given the New York aesthetic of Thebes it works well with it.
I love James woods he’s an amazing actor and does an amazing bad guy in all movies. You love to hate him 😍
I think James Woods said he was going for used car salesman
@@oliviarogers3559 me too.
I personally love the other side of Hades. There's a fanfic of the Hades/Persephone story based on this version of Hades. It's called Hope Springs Eternal
They didn't really. The voice actor played it this way and they made Hades match his performance. ua-cam.com/video/QHA4xh8sLKU/v-deo.html&ab_channel=klassicalmuzik
"This is a Disney movie. You can't kill her."
Oh, my dear innocent friend...
Mufasa, Bambi's mom, several spoilery characters, 90% of the villains: "Have you ever WATCHED a Disney movie?!"
70% of main characters parents: “Are we a joke to you”
it's more like : "this is a Disney movie, a character is gonna die eventually"
@@HobGungan Sure, but main characters and their love interests never die. It's always some kind of fake out.
🤣🤣
Have you ever noticed that, when Hercules cut off the Hydra's head for the first time, the moment Hades said: "Relax, it's only halftime" it is actually the halfway point of the movie ??
I actually didn't think about that lol
I never noticed THAT! 🤔😂
I never even thought about that. Definitely the kind of thing one won't even consider their first, or maybe even second or third time watching.
“The Emperor’s New Groove” is the most underrated Disney movie, and the funniest.
Yes, please do a reaction if you haven't seen it!
Laughs in "Atlantis".
@@phousefilms another amazing film! Also very underrated
@@phousefilms Agreed. Groove atleast has fond memories and a following. Atlantis is just as good as any of its peers if not better but was lost to time like treasure planet.
Agreed, but I think The Great Mouse Detective might be more underrated
Hades is my favorite Disney villain, mostly because of his personality. He's not all drama and Shakespearean like most of the Disney Villains out there, he stands out among them. That and I love how he literally bursts into flame when he's furious.
Same
Love James Woods
he's realistic, cunning, but most likely explosive temperament.
Honestly tho. He's actually really relatable to me XD
Fun fact, when the films budget was getting low, james woods offered to refund his salary and finish for free since he loved aging hades.
Hades: "Is my hair out?" My favourite Disney line.
En español es mejor: Quién apagó la vela? Jajaja
Gabriel 😂
Originally Hades was written as a more typically sinister villain, and they wanted Jack Nicholson to voice him. And Jack was game and wanted to do it, but he asked for the same deal he got on Batman (high front end and a cut of the merch) and Disney was like "haha no". So in comes James Woods auditioning like a used car dealer and the movie is better for it.
As good as James Woods is I think Jack would have played him just as well
I will never forget my first time watching this movie. When he first pulled phill out of the bush my mate said "he caught himself a whole danny devito" and I ended up laughing so hard we had to pause it for an hour
that's brilliant 👏
The way the gods are portrayed is so completely wrong but works well enough. Disney definitely couldn't have the "I will have kids with every mortal woman" Zeus.
Not to mention the whole Ganymede situation...abducting an adolescent guy because he was so beautiful.
@@WoodlandAsh and becoming the star sign Aquarius
nothing about the films acurate acept the names
@@demonic_myst4503 Even then, if they went with Hercules’ true Greek name then it’s actually Heracles, because Hercules is the Roman name. Hercules does roll off the tongue better though.
The whole plotline is wrong. In Greek myth Hercules was one of the Argonauts.
“Indoor plumbing, it’s gunna be big” said by the Fate that can see the future…. That is one of the BEST Disney lines to ever exist!!
If you think that’s funny, you’re going to love this: Apparently in another dub of the movie (I forgot which one) she says “Elvis is still alive. But don’t tell anyone.”
@@marleecorrell1486 Its in the German version!
In greek dub she said " pizzas will be delivered with just a phonecall" 😂
The Swedish dub is similar to English, but what she says is that "Toilet inside the house gonna be be popular".
I honestly thought she was just telling him about his later maiming by Hades, which involves plumbing
...and to think that the dude Meg sold her soul for left her with the next opportunity while Hercules actually was willing to die for her.... 🥺💜
The fact Hercules was wearing the pelt of Scar was a genius Easter egg! You see, the animator of Hercules (Andreas Deja) also animated Scar in The Lion King.😉
Zazu did say he'll make a very handsome throne rug
@@danielkingjr197 *throw rug
Wow what a neat nod to the animator, respect
Short Greek mythology lesson for ya: First, the name Hercules is actually the Roman version of the name. His Greek name is Heracles (pronounced Hera-cleeze).
In Greek mythology Heracles was a demigod (meaning one parent was a god and the other parent was mortal). In Heracles' case he was a love child of Zeus and a mortal mother. Zeus is known for being promiscuous and had sex with many different mortals, even changing forms to do so (in one story he turned into a pile of gold and in another he turned into a swan). Obviously his Olympian wife Hera was incredibly angry about his sexual escapades, but she couldn't say much against it since Zeus is the King of the Gods. Hera, on the other hand, is the Goddess of Marriage and Childbirth.
When Heracles was born, his mortal mother had no idea that Zeus was the father. She named him in honor of Hera with the hope that she would bless him, but this actually angered Hera because the baby's existence just shoved Zeus' extramarital love life in her face. Having him being a namesake just added salt to the wound. One night two snakes slithered into the crib and Heracles' mother went in to save him, but the baby had strangled the snakes to death with his godlike strength. When Heracles became an adult he met Megara and had three children with her. He was living a happy life and in petty revenge Hera made Heracles insane. In his rage he killed Megara and his children.
When Heracles regained his sanity and realized what he had done, he wanted to atone. He ended up talking to a follower of Hera since she is the Goddess of the virtue he felt he betrayed. The follower suggested, upon Hera's orders, Heracles complete 12 labors in order to regain his dignity. The reason Hera suggested these 12 labors is because she was still hellbent on making Heracles' life miserable and the labors she tasked him were so dangerous that she thought he'd die trying to complete them. Thus, her intent was to kill him. However, he succeeded in the 12 labors which made Hera even angrier.
The story continues throughout mythology but Heracles went on to remarry and had three children and continued to have a relatively happy life. Eventually the Greek gods realized that Zeus' powers were strongest in Heracles compared to all of the other love children he had, and Heracles was offered a spot on the Pantheon of Gods. At this point, even Hera agreed so long as he was the only illegitimate child to ever be offered such a spot in the future.
Hades is voiced by James Woods. He really made the character. Hades is the funniest Disney villain, while still being dark and menacing
James Woods Was Also In Surf's Up
WHERE???
For the record, Hera was actually awful a lot of the time, even for someone who was hurt by Zeus all the time. She chucked Heracles off the side of a cliff cause she didn’t think he was good enough
That was Hephaestus she threw off.
Hephaetus. Not Heracles, though she did try to kill Heracles.
@@Cassimfan Well she was the Queen Goddess of Marriage basically and she only had children with her husband. Her husband however got like everything pregnant.
Hercules was a Demi God and she took out her anger with Zeus on his kids
mothers a start of all evil in people
Not to mention that she would always hurt the women Zeus would sleep with
Disney would never show how Hercules was really conceived. Zeus has a history of having one night stands and to make it worse he would disguise himself as the husband of the woman he holds interest in.
Greek mythology is pretty messed up . The biggest lie in this movie was that Hades was a bad guy and Zeus a good father and a loving husband . When in the mythology it's the complete opposite . Zeus is definitely the worst while hades is actually a really nice and loving husband . Also out of the 3 between Zeus , Poseidon and hades . Hades was the only one who didn't cheat on his wife .
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Hades forcibly take his wife from Olympus ever year? And his wife is Persephone, daughter of the Greek goddess Demeter. Hades would take her to the Underworld ever winter and he would let her go back to Olympus in the spring, right?
@@darr12100 there are multiple stories, most of which start with Hades kidnapping Persephone, but they *are* in love, they just have a bumpy start.
Exactly Hades wasn't mad because he forced to rule the Underworld by Zeus they draw lots that is how Hades got the Underworld, Zeus the skies and Poseidon the seas.
@@Tribal92 yeah... I'm also pretty sure (my Greek mythology is a little rusty) Hades is the eldest of Kronos' children, therefore he should be king of the gods, not Zues.
@@creatresscorruption802 Yes Hades is the eldest son and Hera, Hestia and Demeter are his older sisters.
I feel like this movie has the most underrated soundtrack from a Disney film. Gospel music was a perfect fit for this.
'Then along came Zeus' is the best meme ever.
This is probably my 3rd favorite animated Disney movie behind Aladdin and Lion King.
"He just needs to get some spatial awareness and he'll be good to go"
That is the nr. 1 best description of Disney-Hercules I've ever heard, lmao.
One of the absolute best soundtracks of any Disney movie no question lol
Also we one hundred percent need more megs in Disney movies she’s such an epic character type
woah what an unexpected collaboration 🤩
Hope you enjoyed the video!

Hope u enjoy!!
Thanks for having me on my man!! Let's so it again!!
A bit late but, Tim and James collaborating? Here for it. Two of my favorite reactors watching one of my absolute favorite Disney films.
this movie's biggest mistakes is having Zeus as a loving father, but the biggest one is having Hera loving Hercules as mother
You know the reason Hercules (Heracles/Herakles if we want to be more accurate since that is his actual Greek name, while Hercules is his Roman) story kinda sounds like a Superman story is because DC loves to use Greek mythology as a base/inspiration for most of their characters, which even in the comics/movies/shows they point it out, like in Justice League War Diana says they are like the gods, Batman is Hades, Flash is Hermes, Shazam is Zeus, etc etc
21:37 Hades of course should know - his greatest weakness being his wife Persephone, Queen of the Underworld and Goddess of Spring. In some versions of the story he kidnapped her and she's miserable when she's with him, in others he did kidnap her but she grew to love him and they have a surprisingly stable marriage with him only cheating on her 2 or 3 times - originally in the myths he's not evil he's just doing his job, but in all versions of the story she's bound to the underworld because she ate a handful of pomegranate seeds from a pomegranate tree int he underworld - if you eat the food of the underworld you're bound there forever - and has to stay with her husband for one month per seed she ate, and her other Demeter the Goddess of the Harvest becomes so miserable from having lost her daughter that she stops anything including both the flowers and the crops from growing but lets the world grow anew when her daughter returns to her, that was how the Ancient Greeks explained the changing seasons specifically spring and winter. I'm guessing if they included her in this story (though we only see them in the spring and summer months so she's with her mother when all of this is happening) then he'd be all "Baby! Sweetheart! Honeypie!" and she'd be all "yeah yeah yeah I'm here, who's the mortal you've been hanging out with?"
My point being of course Hades would know about Meg being Hercules's weakness, since it could be argued that his wife is his greatest weakness
Did he really cheat tho? For some people atleast I've heard he was the most loyal compared to Zeus and Poseidon
Pretty sure Hades has never cheated on Persephone
@@zacharian1006 Some say the nymph Minthe was his lover before being with Persephone while others suggest during. Wether that may be, Persephone turned her into a bush nonetheless en lol
@@aangmaster9392 2-3 times is REALLY low compared to Zeus and Poseidon
@@deniskim5471 Fair enough, but since there are hundreds of other stories of the gods doing different things I like to pick the ones where he was loyal lol
some mad genius decided to add Gospel music to a Disneyfied Hercules story, paint the plot like a Rocky movie crossed over with Superman, then gave the villain all the sass in the world and it worked SO DAMN WELL
And got the guy who did the art and animation for The Wall to design the characters.
I absolutely love Hades, he’s one of my favorite villains of all time cause he’s threatening as hell (literally) but he’s also extremely hilarious making him overall really enjoyable
Hercules is one of my favorite Disney animated movies of all time.
I grew up with this movie, and it never really sank in how weird an idea it was to put gospel choir music in a movie about a Greek myth, but it turned out to be a great idea. Still one of my favorite sound tracks ever, and I think it really elevates the movie.
Love how they never mention Hades is Hercules' uncle XD.
Hercules has aged really well imo
Oh sweet, a reaction collab! I love Hercules, such a great John Musker and Ron Clements film, and one of the funniest since Aladdin and The Emperor’s New Groove! Speaking of funny, Hades is a riot, I love his hot-headed outbursts, lol!
Hades in different from most Disney baddies. He's wise-cracking, fast-talking, and smooth. He honors every deal he makes, even when honoring said deal would be bad for him. Also, notice Hades called Meg's ex a creep and is 100% willing to completely forgive Meg's debt in return for her help. When he gets the deal from Herc he does just that, frees her, no hesitation, no tricks. That's rare. Not to mention that deal he actually makes when Herc. Hades KNOWS there will soon be a LOT of ways for Meg to get hurt in the incoming cyclops attack and the rampage of the titans, but he makes it anyway.
I think the moment at the beginning where Calliope (lead Muse) says "we'll take it from here darling" & bats her eyes followed by the Narrator (Charlton Heston) saying "you go girl" is an underrated moment in the movie
There is a GREAT episode of Hercules where Hades is in the Underworld and comes across the soul of Jafar and the two of them plot to kill Aladdin and Hercules by tricking the two into fighting each other which was an amazing crossover
I always thought that Meg's legs and/or internal organs would still be crushed when he put her soul back in lol
Like yeah, she'd be alive but she'd be hurting something fierce
“Indoor plumbing, it’s gonna be big”😂😂😂
This is Disney's version of Superman. There is a lot of easter eggs hoped you both noticed them.
Haha, even the darker stuff in this was massively toned down by Disney. Greek mythology is messed up lol.
Also, Hercules' real Greek name is actually Heracles. In the myths his mother was a human woman, because Zeus is a horn dog. And him being named after Zeus' wife was just adding insult to injury.
Not to mention Hera is also his sister
And not to mention he killed his wife and kids in a rage...
@@laragabriel Caused by Hera.

My family and i LOVE this movie, we keep randomly saying phrases from the movie in our daily life even my dad who is not very into animated movies said Hercules it's his favorite one
Hades in real mythology was a good person him and his wife where the love symbol of ancient Greece they where even on the weeding bands while Zeus's and his wife where not that nice the snakes where sent by Zeus's wife while Zeus was a rapist even for back then standers lol however this film is still great and a great way to introduce kids to Greek mythology.
I think its a teribe way t intrducethem bsicy everything in this stru is incurte its fun but it misrepresents everything
@@demonic_myst4503 It's not a mythological history lesson.
@@jp3813 they commented " great way to introduce kids to greek mythology" so im staqting lying about a mythology isnt a good introduction to it
@@demonic_myst4503 I know what you meant, but an introduction doesn't mean that everything has to be immediately accurate. From this movie, kids will know the basics. Such as what gods & titans are. Who are Hercules' real parents? What is Hades the god of? Do you think parents introduce Michael Jackson to their kids by covering all of the controversies or just by having them listen to his music and watch his videos? Painting him as a man that everyone in the world worships.
@@jp3813 first impressions are hard to break and kids its even harder what u learn as a kid sticks with u and no kid is going to go look up if the films acurate or any myth after it their just going to think thats how it went and carey that into life

I love Hercules so much and Hades is comedy gold. I think movies like Hercules, Tarzan and Aladdin are peak Disney and they still hold up. The music is fantastic as always.
As a 6year old kid watching the scene for the first time where Hercules was swimming trough The River of Styx and tries to get to Megara was so suspenseful for me that, when the Sisters of Fate was very close to his life tread with the scissor made me look away, but when I heard that the couldn't cut of the tread made me look back again at the movie.

Fun fact: When Phil said that "I am retired" is actually only 2 words in greek
Since Disney completely flipped all of Greek mythology on it's head in this one, MANY people in Greece were badly angry at this movie for such tacky distortion of their culture. I love the movie but I also understand angry Greeks here. There was a lot of Christian influence here: we gotta make the main guy living on a cloud to be GOOD and the guy ruling the underworld gotta be EVIL, like WE are used to think about it. :P
Was a teenager when this movie came out and everyone loved it to this day. Plus we didn't have internet forums to bitch at so there's that.
@Morse People from Greece aren't a hivemind. They're individuals. Some people there didn't like it, but many others did.
Disney/Marvel is butchering Norse Mythology by changing everything about Thor as well, yet people rarely talk about it. It all depends on who you ask.
Im sure there's many mythology-buffs in current "Scandinavian" countries like Denmark, Norway and Sweden, that don't like how Disney currently treats Thor, replacing him with a woman, giving her his powers, making Odin to be an incompetent leader who only won wars because of his daughther Hel (who's not even in his daughter in the myths), etc.
Anyone with a brain knows they couldn't make a Disney movie about a cheating, rapist God and his psycho wife who killed mortals everytime she was frustrated with him.
They're adaptations. They're takes on the myths. Its ridiculous that we pick and choose which to get mad about, and which not to.
If people are mad about Hercules chaning the myths, the should also be about Thor doing the same.
Yeah it is not remotely like any of the myths. However the television spinoff has alot of neat references to well ancient Greece. Still not accurate but the writers clearly remembered their ancient Greek history classes.
“This is a Disney movie, you can’t kill her!”
Laughs in Lion King
Hades in actual mythology was one of the better gods, because while all the others were fucking around, he was guarding the gates of Tartarus making sure the Titans didn't escape.
Hades is the BEST. I love him so much.
I am ashamed to say that it took me multiple viewing to catch the joke "Call Eye Ex - Eye - Eye" when the "kid" is trapped under the rock. But this, Mulan and Lilo & Stitch will always stay my favorite animated Disney movies
Yess Hades, the sassy Villain ❤️ thanks James Woods, what a legend ✋🤚
Now that I’m older watching this, I realize that Zeus can totally turn Meg into a goddess, there’s been many instances throughout Greek mythology that this happened.
This isn’t the real story of Hercules but is a great film
In the Lion King Zazu tells Mufasa Scar would make "an excellent throw rug."
This, Tarzan, and Mulan are my favorite animated Disney movies. Beauty and the Beast and Brother Bear are close behind. And Moana.
They should make two new television shows that’s based on Chowder and the marvelous misadventures of flapjack called Iago and pain and panic starring Alan Tudyk Nick Kroll and John Mulaney.
Hades is TOP TIER Disney's villains. We all LOVE him.
It's been a while since i've seen Hercules and it's a really good movie not gonna lie

Hercules is one of my top fav movie and definitely has one of my fav villains in Disney
it wasnt just giving his life it was also the fact he was willing sacrifice everything he had including is own powers to save the woman he loves that restored his god which made him a god once more
Hercules is like Superman; the story of being a special boy who comes from another place. Here, Meg is Lois Lane and Hades is Lex Luthor.
23:44 I’m surprised more people don’t pick up on this one. “That Oedipus thing? Man, and I thought *I* had problems.”
"This is a Disney movie, they can't kill her!"
Oh they can.....and they will 😂
20:26 i saw this as a kid when it was on theaters, all these monsters were in the trailer, imagine our surprise when we saw the movie and they were just part of a montage
Soo, the other gods didn´t even tell Hades that Hercules was missing and lost his immortality, living as a human? Did they suspect him or were they just mean?
I totally dug the muses when I was 5😂
Loved this movie since I was a kid. Me and my dad went to see it in theatre and after we got the movie on VHS, we kept watching it and even tried to write down the lyrics of the songs so we could sing them later. Also, my dad loved Hades for his fast-talking lines

Hercules (/ˈhɜːrkjuliːz, -jə-/) is the Roman equivalent of the Greek divine hero Heracles, son of Jupiter and the mortal Alcmene. In classical mythology, Hercules is famous for his strength and for his numerous far-ranging adventures. The Romans adapted the Greek hero's iconography and myths for their literature and art under the name Hercules.
Heracles (/ˈhɛrəkliːz/ HERR-ə-kleez; Greek: Ἡρακλῆς, Hēraklês, "Glory/Pride of Hera"), born Alcaeus (Ἀλκαῖος, Alkaios) or Alcides (Ἀλκείδης, Alkeidēs), was a divine hero in Greek mythology, the son of Zeus and Alcmene, and the foster son of Amphitryon.
He was a great-grandson and half-brother (as they are both sired by the god Zeus) of Perseus. He was the greatest of the Greek heroes, the ancestor of royal clans who claimed to be Heracleidae (Ἡρακλεῖδαι), and a champion of the Olympian order against chthonic monsters.
Pegasus (Greek: Πήγασος, Pḗgasos; Latin: Pegasus, Pegasos) is a mythical winged divine horse, and one of the most recognized creatures in Greek mythology. Usually depicted as pure white, Pegasus is the offspring of the Olympian god Poseidon. He was foaled by the Gorgon Medusa upon her death, when the hero Perseus decapitated her. Pegasus is the brother of Chrysaor and the uncle of Geryon.
Pegasus was caught by the Greek hero Bellerophon, near the fountain Peirene, with the help of Athena and Poseidon. Pegasus allowed Bellerophon to ride him in order to defeat the monstrous Chimera, which led to many other exploits. Bellerophon later fell from the winged horse's back while trying to reach Mount Olympus. Afterwards, Zeus transformed Pegasus into the eponymous constellation.
(At 3:35) it's funny how they retconned how Pegasus was born, considering he's Poseidon and Medusa's son, AFTER he raped her BEFORE his niece put a curse on her.

Thanks, Timothee! 🏺 Thanks, James! 🏛️ I identify with the Greek myths far more than the Roman versions. The Greek ones focus more on emotional ideals and are reason-centric... while the Roman ones tend to be more tactile and action-centric. Many conflate the two... but, historically, they're quite distinct.
I would have given anything to be a fly on the wall when James Woods would be yelling as Hades lmfao
