This video saved me SOOOO much money! Replaced the whole valve body for around 300, every garage was around 4k with labour. Thanks for this awesome video man!
Thanks for your video. After getting the dreaded P1778 code pop up on my 08 Altima with almost 250k miles (all miles mine), I began searching for answers and found your publication. I also had P0868 so I decided to replace the whole valve body. Your video nonetheless was instructive on the overall process and I felt a great deal of confidence I could get it done. I got the car back on the road today for only $250 and no codes now! I also want to thank the others that commented on using a cardboard map for the bolt positions. I drew the outline, punched the holes and stuck the bolts in them as I pulled them out. It made it so much easier to get it back together. Btw, the torque spec is 71 INCH pounds on these bolts. Thank you for providing this helpful video! It enabled me to successfully repair my 2008 Nissan Rogue. The tutorial's instructions on removing the bolts from the valve body were accurate. I took the extra step of labeling all the screws from the valve. I strongly advise wearing protective goggles, as it can be quite a messy job. Based on my experience, I also recommend labeling the transmission pan bolts to avoid any mix-ups, which I encountered. Additionally, I applied silicone to the pan and allowed it to cure for 24 hours before adding the CVT oil. I measured the amount of oil drained and added the same quantity. After starting the engine, I shifted between gears to ensure the CVT fluid circulated through the transmission. Initially, I noticed a bit of sluggishness in acceleration for the first few minutes, but after about five minutes, the vehicle ran smoothly without any issues. Many thanks and God bless you for sharing this invaluable video!

I did replace the stepper motor from ebay, but it is not resolve the slow shift and high RPM with P1778 fault code. Excellent tutorial and pix! (2012 Altima had virtually trouble free 243K miles :) ...only MAF sensor was a non-wear item)
I also have a 2012 altima with the P1778 code, I was also trouble free til I just hit 200k 3 weeks ago. Since then I've had the shifting problems and high RPMs. Changed the MAF sensor and it helped for a day or 2 then back to the problems. It seems to give me more problems during the day when its hot out. I've never changed the trans fluid....would this job be recommended with the new fluid and all?
Hey guys, one incredibly vital part that he forgot to mention is to torque down the valve body bolts to the correct spec. DO NOT TIGHTEN THEM DOWN BY FEEL. YOU WILL OVER/UNDER TIGHTEN THE BOLTS AND THE VALVE BODY WONT WORK PROPERLY.
Shame on the companies using the CVT’s. Trying to cut costs at consumers expense is wrong. They haven’t improved much since I had one an a mini bike in the 70’s. Good job showing this repair! I saw a guy remove the metal belt system. What a job!
This video just saved me thousands. The allen wrench hack and the screw diagram for the valve body were extremely helpful touches. Car drives perfect now and the error code is gone. Can't thank you enough.

Hi, I followed this video which was very helpful in helping me replace the stepper motor. Mine worked after replacing the motor. However, after 6 days of working fine, the problem came back again. I'm getting P1778 code again and the Nissan rogue won't go faster that 55mph. Any advise on what could be causing the problem to resurface? I did notice that the variator which the motor is connected to wasn't moving smoothly but wasn't sure if that's normal.
followed the steps, easy enought. car changes gear but it will not shift at all. did i miss something or i might have a bad step motor. will need to go back down to recheck everything. any suggestions will help.
Just another piece of advice for you all. I replaced my stepper motor but it didn’t work. I realized I needed to change the valve body BECAUSE I noticed the ratio control valve/rod was jamming therefore not allowing the ratio to change. This also causes a 1778 code because the stepper motor is connected to it. So make sure the rod slides in and out without difficulty.
@@sidog if you replace the valve body keep the same ROM (small black square box it’s the computer basically) from your original valve body. Switch out the little black box mounted on to the side and you will not have to reprogram it.

I'll let you know how things come out after I finish mine I HV to pull my step motor off my transmission 1st to be able to match it up because it seems to HV 2 or 3 different kinds so I'm going to get started on it right now. Thanks again bro your the best
hey man anything change i know its been a year how did it go
You are absolutely amazing.. I been going crazy trying to find out what's wrong with my car.. I thought maybe a tune up was needed... But I see now it's the step motor.. Thank you so much for this video!!!! Have A Blessed Day!!
Right, am having the same issue with my Nissan Altima
Roastee
Thank you for the diagram…I needed to know what bolts come out thank you sooo much
Hi, thank you so much. I've sent it to my mechanic, as you're the first person actually showing what I was experiencing!
Who would thumbs down this!? I mean I got lost after the different size bolts but I admire ur tenacity
Nissan and the dealership who will giv👎
@@mohamedsalam7895 facts 😂
Thanks a ton, the video is really helpful and detailed. It would be a nightmare to do something like this without instructions. You have just save time and headaches to all of us trying to fix this transmission problem. Again thank you.
Just paid over 3k to replace with 100k Miles and that's all it was. Nissan will not replace stepper motor. Thank you for opening my eyes.
They want to I pay 5500 for my and only have 110 k form 2013 rouge
Camera man wasn’t good at capturing the full part and the latch and what you were doing. Hope I can figure it out by the way you explained it. You did a great job explaining it thanks
Just finished replacing the step motor on a 2012 Altima. Couldn't have done it without your video. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Glad I could help!
What were the symptoms
@@djchristian8880 I don't recall. The scanner had the code.
Bro you are amazing. You taught me alot and save me thousands of dollars. Thank you for all that you do.
Any day my guy glad it saved you some money 👌
Bro where i find the model of my step motor on the transmisión?
@@budgetdrift6403 how many quarts of transmission fluid you put back in? Thank you
@Oscar Figueroa how many quarts of transmission fluid you put back in? And what type?
Hey man i rarely like shit on fb or youtube but i had to throw you one on this video!! Super high quality. You outdid yourself.
Wow spot on. I honestly like the bit where you introduced us to the hole to pin the link pin into position.
Thank you for your video!
My 2013 Nissan Altima shows brake light to be on sometimes after I turn off the car. Now I noticed that the car doesn't accelerate sometimes after a stop. But when I turn it off and start it. It drives perfectly fine. Would a change of the car step motor help?
Because of you and this video p1777 code is now gone!!! Thank you!!!!
I did replace the stepper motor from ebay, but it is not resolve the slow shift and high RPM with P1778 fault code. Excellent tutorial and pix! (2012 Altima had virtually trouble free 243K miles :) ...only MAF sensor was a non-wear item)
Hello Bob. Did you figure out. Thanks G
How do you determine the correct spec to torque down the bolts? Appreciate any feedback!
Well whats the torque
Shame on the companies using the CVT’s. Trying to cut costs at consumers expense is wrong. They haven’t improved much since I had one an a mini bike in the 70’s. Good job showing this repair! I saw a guy remove the metal belt system. What a job!
This video just saved me thousands. The allen wrench hack and the screw diagram for the valve body were extremely helpful touches. Car drives perfect now and the error code is gone. Can't thank you enough.
Hey, how many quarts of transmission fluid did you put? And what kind? I got out around 5 quarts and refilled 5 now car acting crazy. Thank you
@@firdavskhamidov6837 the guy on the video put back 11 qts...🤷
I have a 2010 maxima and the description at the beginning of the video where your flooring it and going no where similar problem but my code is p0746 pressure control solenoid “A” stuck off so I’ll be replacing the whole valve body that comes with all new solenoids. I searched for DAYS for solenoids it was way faster just getting the valve body and not to expensive $150 so it’s coming in Wednesday so I hope it works my buddy who worked at Nissan dealership told me to start pricing out new/used transmissions well I’ll spend 150 to see if it works because I’ve watched 4/5 videos with all my problems and it fixed it so fingers crossed
Wow the most important part at 7:40 wasn’t caught in camera smh but still very helpful thank you
Sorry about that my dad was filming lol
Excellent video. Very informative with lots of small details. One of the best UA-cam videos. Enjoyed watching! Bravo!
You know more about cvts than most mechanics!
Your damn right I'll like and subscribe...I've been a mechanic for as long as I can remember and you sir was gifted a good brain
I may attempt this on a 2011 Altima 2.5S It has a code for the step motor problem. Thanks for the video
Solid video my man! Best one on here for changing out this part (really the ONLY one I could find). Simply wouldn't have done this without it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge after bumping your head so we wouldn't have to lol!
Nice work!! The best are those who share their mistakes so others can learn.
Thanks for this great video, Im thinking of tackling this job on my 3.5l 08" just hit 230k and she is starting to get the bogged down acceleration. Gotta check codes but as i already did the screen and have changed fluild a few times i have good suspicion, this is the culprit. Plus the value body
Dude, you are the best! Have the same issue with my 16 altima. 8 years have passed, they do the same shit
I have 363k miles on my 16 altima and haven't run into this issue yet
You did a great job bud, very clear and straight forward. I have a manual transmission though but same vehicle and I am happy to say I learned something new about automatic transmission.
Manual trannys are best. I wish I could find one.
@Kaylene pretty hard to find. Can't tell you how much people wanting to buy it from me.
My 2013 Rogue has the same codes. My new step motor just arrived so I'm going to attempt this repair. The thing is, I have little to no experience working on cars beyond checking fluids. Although, I did successfully replace my radiator the other day. I can't afford to pay someone to do it so, that leaves me. If you have any advice or pointers please let me know. Right now, I'm most concerned with lifting the car safely. Thanks. I'll be following along with your video
Very knowledgeable and he makes it easy to follow step by step instructions! Thanks!
So just watched this and was literally the best , then I look and see no more videos , 😢 is there a different channel??
Hi really like your video excellent I have 1 question which I need your assistance. I have a Nissan Altima 2.5 2004 starts good put in gear runs good all gears shift but the minute you stop on a speed bump or a complete stop it will not shift again will only runs in first gear. In order for it to shift I have to shut the vehicle down and start again then it will shift, but have to do it every time I stop. What can you recommend I can do. Thanks will appreciate your help.
I have a similar problem hopefully some one can help @ me
Thank you, very informative video. CVT issue with my 2008 Altima just started today, actually gave the car to my son a few months ago. Just ordered the step motor from the link below and gonna work on it as soon as it's delivered. Thanks again, this is a real money saver...a lot of money!!
Good luck!! 🙏
What did you use to spray the valve body once you took the pan off?
Nice Job.... Great info.... Others say - "Just Replace Trans" .... You didn't. Great video
Big thanks. This video was really helpful. Glad you blew past that 50 likes.
Awesome job making that video clear instructions and straightforward
Great work. I have the same problem. Did the servomotor replacement, did use the allen key trick, but I m stuck in first gear and won’t shift any hogher. The servo installed is brand new. Reverse will work.
Any idea what i could possibly have don wrong??
Does the tranny have to be in neutral while doing the repair ? Thanks
Hello Gerard. Did you figure out? Thanks G
Great video 09 rogue had to take down the valve body couldn’t have done without this video thanks bro 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Do you have to reprogram the car and get it towed to the dealer after replacing the valve body or do you have to take out the black box and swap it to the new valve body from the old one?
Awesome video! My son's car similar issue and codes. Another time I would have tried this. Need to bring it in...
AWESOME VIDEO!!! Incredibly helpful!!! I have to replace the step motor in my 2014 Nissan Murano. Thank you also for the Class Action lawsuit information! I will have to follow up on that!
Lonnie i have a murano 2014 also I changed the stepmotor but my car still stalls at acceleration were you able to fix your problem??
One year and you have all that Clutch dust and shaving metals at the Pan ,no wonder Nissan is going down the Toilet, Thanks for sharing your Knowledge 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😬

Fantastic video. Procedure was spot on. My only issue is it stays stuck in basically 1st gear. Before it felt like it was stuck in the highest gear. Any thoughts as to what the issue is? Or what I did wrong?
Fixed it?

Ordered mine off amazon did urs come with oil residue on it? Or is mine used?
You sure got the extra like from me thumbs up 👍. Please what do I do if there's no acceleration at all ?
Unplug your throttle body
thank you for making this simple I have the p1777 code and may have to do this soon showing the bolts to remove the diagram was a great step
Did you end up doing it yet? And if so, did it work?
@@thatwaynard Actually I did complete the job step by step was very easy pay close attention I numbered all the bolt holes ant put the bolts in a box that had holes numbered and replaced part put back together never heard from customer again no more complaints
@@mrusmarshal ok thank you for responding back quickly. I have one more question. So after putting back in the new step motor and setting the lever thing in the right spot where you put an Allen key in the whole, did the transmission work fine after that?
Great video, thanks a lot for making this posible.the mecanic told me first to replaced the hole transmission after have code p1778,,then I show him this video and now he needs to go from easy to hard..actually he tried to ripped off.he ofert me 1000.dls for my 2012 nissan rogue...

Wow great informative video. You can pull fluid out of the pan thru the dipstick. Typical Japanese cars ALWAYS have way more frame rust.
hi your vedio is tooooo good and help me a lot
any way after i change the step motor the vehcle doing the same thing
what you think i did wrong
same code and no change gear
Great video! I think the majority of the mechanics will just junk the transmission for a $30.00 part.
Allen key tip FTW!! Saved my bacon today, thanks!!!!
Great work. Having an issue with the service engine light on a 2009 Nissan. Plug in says I need P1788. Believe this is the work that needs to be done. Might try to fix it myself. Or atleast I know what the mechanic will be doing.
Hey hey. Thanks for the video. After 2 years is it still fixed? Curious how it's holding up now that it's been a while. Cheers!
Hey mike ended up having to replace the whole valve body about 30,000 miles after this video. Sold the car right after so not sure how it’s holding up. Will never buy another CVT again lol
Thanks for the reply! That's what I was worried about so I really appreciate the response.
Thank you so much for this helpful information! Having the same issues.
Very informative and after i do this project i will let you know how well you taught me ❤
Thank you saved me a ton of money.
Very well made video 👍
Best video I've seen o this cvt I was looking for input on holding that swivel fork that is held with that access hole doesn't body know if that round pin that sits inside of transmission and wraps around by that swivel fork is that piece supposed to move freely or not
Help, please! I followed the steps in the video, but now the car will not move fwd or back when I shift to reverse or drive. I did notice that on the video the rod was all the way in out next to the little lever with the 14mm bolt but on my car is wa all the way in.
Mine too! Same symptoms, any remedy?
What if it does
Did u have to take it into reprogram afterwards?
@@sidog if you replace the valve body keep the same ROM (small black square box it’s the computer basically) from your original valve body. Switch out the little black box mounted on to the side and you will not have to reprogram it.
@@torredrakeford7825 wow, thx for the quick response. I fwded ur reply to my mechanic in case he was unaware. Just like u I replaced the stepper motor first. Now I'm replacing the valve body. Thanks again for the response 👍
@@sidog No problem! Good luck!
I noticed the stepper motor was in different locations. From old one compared to new. So that doesn’t matter?
Great Video, saved Thousands of Dollars... Thank You
Glad I could help! :)
Amazing video. You explain terrifically. Very intelligent. How did you burn your arms so bad man?
I just finished and followed all instructions in this video and now looks like it has only 1st gear. Scanner it shows P1778 and P0868 low fluid pressure (2012 altima only took 6qts, not 11qts as shows in the video)
What’s wrong?
Bump
Thanks young.....gracias joven you help many people with you information....
I subscribbed. BRO, you just highlighted what I went through. From a stopped position the acceleration either happened or it didn't and made the car DANGEROUS to drive. I went to a mechanic and right away he said its the CVT and nissan's are known for this problem. Others who lacked experience said it was either an engine or a transmission problem. It was a 2009 nissan with 120k miles. I ended up selling it to a "pick and pull" business for $600. How much time did this replacement take you to do?
Took about an hour. We were gonna scrap it too if I couldn’t get it fixed but I ended up figuring it out and decided to share
@@budgetdrift6403 Damnnnnn. I sold for $600 to a scrap yard.. I coulda fixed and sold for $4-5k easily! Keep up the good content man, I look forward to seeing other vids.
thank you. what causes the step motor malfunction. I have replaced 2 in a span of 4 months.
Thanks for the vídeo gonna work on my 08 Altima this weekend
