We Malaysia used to be a third world country and been exploited by colonial before. However, having a good leader really help us to overcome this imbalance of employment issue (too many expatriate). Our government had established our own entity in managing Oil & Gas sector and set the quota system (for foreign company to hire not less than certain percentage of local engineers or workers). We are now moving towards 80-90% localization, regardless of which company, Shell, Repsol,Hess, OMV, you name it, there is always more local people than expat.

@@spaceman69 fair question. I think dating back to colonialism the foreign powers still have profiting contracts with the local corrupt governments. Most of the profits go to these huge companies and little goes to the government of the country, which should be the legitimate owner of the resource. It's like having a gold mine in your private backyard, and for whatever reasons your neighbour does the digging and selling and you only get a small rent for the excavations. Of course there are many details and it's probably more complicated than that but think about it, every big company will want to find as many ways to exploit a resource for maximum profit, it's a basic buisiness principle, however the question is why should these foreign companies have so much power on a smaller country which doesnt have the political or economical.influence to reverse this?

France colonized many undeveloped 3rd world tribal lands many years ago especially in and around Africa, forming the "French Colonial Empire", and around early to mid 20th century they allowed the tribal lands to have independence and form their own country and government, in exchange for rights over all their natural resources, forming what is known today as "Neocolonialism". Because these undeveloped countries like Somalia and Nigeria don't have any control over their natural resources, their government can't profit enough to develop the country into a sustainable, efficient, and working economy, so technically these countries are still stuck in a "tribal phase" because of the French leeching everything off of their lands like a bloodsucking mosquitos. The only reason the French are constantly harassed by pirates is because the oil industry would rather spend just 1 million per month for security measures than invest several ten-millions per month for the locals to have basic human needs like clean water, food and medical care. the reason why Nigerian and Somalian military don't do anything about the pirates is NOT because of "corruption/bribery", but because these pirates do what they do as the only measure of feeding their families and children. Killing the pirates means most civilians will die from starvation. And these d*ckhead Frenchman have the audacity to call these countries "corrupted". All of these problems exist because France has a huge power-trip and greed problem. Not to mention all the other industries they're running in foreign countries: gold, other metals, diamonds, other gems, coal, forest woods.
