“Typically the public pays far more attention to the bad than the good.”
The accuracy of this statement is extremely depressing.
Makes you want to just throw away your faith in people more and more
Ian Rivera I know, right?
So true...
In this case you really have to think critically though. From the perspective of the commonwealth, the Jedi did far more bad than good. They kidnapped children, enforced unjust sanctions (as mentioned in the video) and were followed by war and death that usually had the greatest impact on the everyday people. Hey but at least the brought us supplies after natural disasters and did a little conflict resolution...... when we weren't collateral damage in their holy wars, that is.
DNice5865 This isn’t exactly referring to the Jedi specifically, just in general, both in Star Wars and in real life. But yes, that is true.

This is why Luke Skywalker's jedi order (in legends) is so loved he made the new order almost completely separate from the new republic and therefore allowed the jedi to instead of depending on the elite to solve problems
They connected and went to the people to solve problems in each region or homeworld (to the point where there were more than 4 different Jedi temples to help do this) so the jedi instead of looking like isolated monks that solved major conflicts they were actually peace keepers that went out to solve any problems both in global or galactic scale and civil and local ones
I'd go as far as saying that luke's jedi order is not even a Jedi Order. The only thing in common is that they are light side force users. Luke's Order is much better and less corrupt

This is why I love Luke Skywalker's New Jedi Order (in legends). He wanted his New Jedi to get directly involved with the people, not the politics, of different worlds and to get to know all sides of the Force, not just the light side.
In my opinion there are two things that brought the Jedi to that state:
1. They served the (by the time of the Clone Wars) by now corrupted Republic instead of making efforts to bring corrupted government officials to justice, whether it is by proving them guilty to the court or simply taking them down.
2. They were indeed somewhat disconnected from simple citizens that they actually should have cared about the most. Had they provided more humanitarian support by, for instance, setting up free clinics, been more involved with hunting down criminals, they would have gained support from more people across the Galaxy.
For your first part, keep in mind that everyone thought the jedi were too involved in politics so trying to bring down a corrupt official would only worsen ppl’s views of them
@@its-a-mac3348 Not if this official is proven guilty or taken down silently, without any hint that it were the Jedi who did this. And here is another point why the Jedi Order crumbled so easily: they lacked their own intelligence and should have had more extensive covert activity.
Another thing is that Jedi overly militarized when they should have allowed and encouraged peaceful actions. Think of how being in the agricultural corp is treated as a punishment and Jedi didn’t really have any way of sending suggestions to the council by themselves or anonymously
Execute order number 9, 2 times, a large number 9, number 6 with extra sith, a number 7, number 45 twice, one with Jedi, and a large Jango

Jedi's ignorance towards Sith and the dark side seems to be one of their downfalls. Instead of trying to learn from them, or at least spread the word of dangers of the dark side, the history of the sith was practically erased. How was anyone supposed to take Jedi's quest against Sith seriously, when they didn't even know what Sith were.
The problem lies in the fact that the Jedi tend to assume that the Sith are gone for good every time they were defeated. They assumed this after the Old Sith Empire was destroyed, after the reconstituted Sith Empire was defeated, after the Brotherhood of Darkness was destroyed thanks to Darth Bane's plot, after they killed the presumed last Sith Lord (who was actually Darth Zannah's cousin that was driven insane), etc... And yet they never learn.
Decades prior to the Phantom Menace, there was a Jedi Padawaan that fell to the Dark Side and sensed that the Sith were still out there, and, before he died, he tried to warn the Jedi Order. However, the Jedi assumed that he was nothing more but a madman and dismissed his warnings. And later, when Qui-Gon Jin says that he fought a Sith on Tatooine, the Jedi of course dismiss him as well since "the Sith have been extinct for a thousand years."
That was an impressively realistic analysis of how the public might view the jedi's actions. Thankyou for making this excellent video! I very much enjoyed watching it, and thinking about its implications :)
I agree. This channel helps enhance my understanding and appreciation of Star Wars.

As usual with the jedi's downfall, the short answer is: Palpatine
Exactlu
Palpatine only gave the final blow. The Jedi's downfall was their arrogance, narrowmindedness, stagnation and corruption. With or without Palpy, the Jedi would fall anyways.
Jedi and Sith are extremists: The Jedi embody extreme logic and the Sith embody extreme emotions. There must be always a balance.
Jorge Bersabe Fair, I was just joking about how Palpatine kept messing with the Jedi and just getting away with it.
@@jorgebersabe293 Yes, the Jedi were hypocritical. Do you think they were evil, though?
I only ask because I see lots of people say that the Jedi were evil towards Anakin, and while they failed him, I do also believe they didn't do it intentionally. Plus, by Episode 3, Yoda and others were beginning to see the flaws in the Order, and wished to correct them after the war. Palps was the driving factor in their fall, however, of that I am sure.
The Jedi failed to keep themselves as the neutral party. They drafted thousands of Force sensitives to their cause, even forcing them to by implying they could destroy their families by not joining the Order. Imagine thousands of lightsaber and Force wielding "good" guys playing with the "balance" of the Galaxy. You best believe you should be scared. With no standing army what would stop a rogue splinter group of scorned Jedi into conquering the Galaxy? The Jedi always believed that if they didn't act the Dark Side would be more powerful. Their paranoia led to them sending their very best fighters into a war torn galaxy and leaving few at the Temples to train the new Jedi, which was why Order 66 worked. Spread your powerful warriors to every corner with no back up. Easy pickings and easier to attack their bases with few guarding the young. The Jedi failed for balance and for peace. Their failure led to even more war and death and fear. I would hate em.
Hate might be a strong word. But I cant say I wouldn't RESENT them and the whole damn equation. When lookin at stories like this I think people often forget that more than likely you wouldn't be one of the big characters; you'd more than likely be one of the rebels who died in Vader's big reveal lol
This is why, despite the genocidal result of her actions, Kreia was largely right. Pretty much any group influenced by the Force tends to do this, as they ally with a larger population by claiming to be "servants" of the law while emotionally lobotomizing themselves. Here's a fun fact - servants generally aren't allowed to have their own opinion on a matter, and aren't meant to be respected at all.
Anybody who abuses the Force (the base description of the Dark Side) does similar actions - their word is law, do as they say or suffer extreme consequences - but they tend to be more upfront about it (not a good thing, considering that doesn't hold them back). Block out the Force and things allow for more free will, though it would just be a start.
Anakin was right, the Jedi are pretty evil if you look at it.
From a certain point of view...
TheCommunistDragon how?
The pika RIVERA I believe the Jedi are too narrow minded they believed they were the center of the universe they even go as far as to lie and go their own way instead of the democracy they love so much in the name of "the greater good" so basically whatever they deem is right, is right no one else is they expect you to trust them when they aren't truthful themselves
It's not like the Sith are much better in that regard though.
TheCommunistDragon with that, the best force users are unorthodox good hearted jedis and grey jedis who cares for everyone(and I mean EVERYONE) and are willing to solve those conflicts
Being "Narrow Minded" is not being evil. They were out of touch, but they DID things for the greater good (Like, not being controlled by a dictator Sith and his Empire). But the normal people DONT care for the greater good, they care for what happens NOW to them, so the normal citizens think the Jedi are evil because of that. What they say IS right, as they care for peace and justice. But the rest of the galaxy is so corrupt and materialistic that they can't do anything.
the jedi was hated by many loved by few but respected by all
That's a nice piece of rhetoric, but it doesn't make any sense. Some people respected the Jedi, but most didn't really give a shit. There are quadrillions of people in the galaxy on tens of thousands of planets. They have work to do, families to provide for, things to do. Do you really think any of them at all cared about the Jedi?
Jen'ari-asha they cared about the jedi if they need them for knowledge or protection either way just gotta have respect for them a long time ago they was just peace keepers not generals the peace keepers at the time was respected
No. No. Not really. The Jedi refuse to share any knowledge, they're too few in numbers to offer any practical protection to everyone in the galaxy and no one is going to respect them just because they may have been cool a few thousand years ago. (Case and point. Macedonia)
Jen'ari-asha fair point

I've said this before, I'll say it again: There was no good side in the Clone Wars. Some people with good intentions on both sides, But no good side.
Matthew Wheeler Same with ww2
Especially since Palpatine was pulling the strings of both sides
Matthew Wheeler good and bad are really only a matter of perception
uh, I'm pretty sure what is good is relative, and if you compare the jedi to the fucking sith, then the jedi are way wayyyy better. And good.
Good and bad are subjective, always.
Honestly majority of the Jedi Order's mistakes seems to come out of them being dumb and/or arrogant.
"Sith are the absolute evil"
"Only a Sith deals in absolutes"
*Hmm*
When Obi wan said that, he means that only a Sith will act apon an absolute, not state the aforementioned.
It's such a dumb line, when for the whole film the Sith point of view has been presented as relativist (at least in Palpatine's rhetoric), in contrast to the Jedi's absolute view. To paraphrase: 'Good and evil is a point of view, Anakin'; the 'dogmatic, narrow view of the Jedi' as opposed to the Sith's 'larger view' of the Force; and the unforgettable (lmao) 'from my point of view, the Jedi are evil.' Meanwhile the Jedi are the ones obsessed with contrasting the Light versus the Dark side of the Force, absolute good versus absolute evil.
This leads them to dismiss the possibility that they are in the wrong regarding the kidnapping of babies, using child soldiers, authorising the use of an enslaved clone army, and maybe even genocide (depending on what you consider canon - I'm thinking of the Sith Holocaust and the Excision of Mandalore). They can't look at themselves critically or see anyone else's side because they are convinced that everything they do is in service of the Light (and therefore everyone who opposes them is opposing the will of the Force).
The Sith outlook is similar, except they worship power itself and believe that anything can be justified in terms of achieving more power. The Jedi are at least nominally humanitarian, so they have that going for them, but in terms of what they actually do it's a different story.

Wait then how did Palpatine explain the deaths of Mace Windu and the other three jedi masters when they attempted to arrest him? He was playing as the victim so how?
"Anakin saved me" probably
Jen'ari-asha that or his guards fought them off
No surviving witnesses, maybe even cameras documenting their entrance. Maybe some data manipulation. It was his office and thanks to him prompting Annakin he knew when they would come.
And yes, probably 'Anakin saved me', to cement the 'good Jedi that stood against the corrupt Jedi Order'.
There's a video on this thats states how the Jedi "betrayed" him and tried to overthrow him but he was able to survive and labeled all Jedi especially yoda as war criminals.
"They all slipped on their own lightsabers."
I think some faith was restored when people learned how evil the Empire was and the evil existence of the Sith was publicly well known sometime after the Battle of Endor. Also, many rebels accept Jedi fighting alongside them.
It's interesting how many contradictions the Jedi council were guilty of before the ultimate fall during order 66. They claimed to be peacekeepers while acting as (unqualified) military leaders during the clone wars, they indoctrinate children with barely any consent from their families (much less the children's), they claim to be trying to maintain balance and order throughout the galaxy when the majority of Jedi spent most of their time in the temple on Coroscant which is to say not out in the galaxy among the people, they let themselves become wrapped up in politics while also not doing ANYTHING close to trying to maintain good PR with the people. "Jedi are just good. Take our word for it." Was basically their policy. So it was no wonder Palpatine's plan went off flawlessly and the Jedi were mostly hated after the war ended.
Man why can't we have THIS star wars movie made, instead the usual spoonfed "team A = good guys, team B = bad guys and Mary Sue is flawless" bullshit that it is right now? :(

So basically people not directly effected by Clone Wars hated Jedi because they felt that they were more important than people that were directly suffering from it and because of they believed what they were told without any question. Why I am not surprised by that.
I've learned soo much from the video, now. This whole time, I always believed the Jedi were only hated by a few people and organizations simply because they were the "good guys," who always defeat and foiled the bad guys. But now I see, it's because they created too many problems in history, and failed to solve the existing problems.
I always suspected that hatred of the Jedi and disbelief in them and the force was because of the practical extinction of Jedi Sentinels. Who specific job was to help people, ordinary people with not just the force but anything else they could like science or engineering on back water worlds. Again since Sentinels were supposed to stay on worlds permanently.

Also oppression can absolutely happen in a representative democracy, if the representatives are being pressured into abandoning their own values. This definitely did happen in the Empire through the Imperial Fleet and later the Death Star and the destruction of Alderaan. Also: Is SLAVERY not oppression (nearly) at its "finest"?
It's actually because I started a rumor they liked the sequels more than the original trilogy.
honestly of i was a civilian in the republic I would hate the jedi.

Steven Tierolf Nice profile pic
see the old Galactic Republic is stupid, they stopped the future generation know about the sith so that they could differentiate the difference between the Jedi and the Sith. good thing our fellow Sith Darth Sidious destroyed the Republic
The Old Republic: Hey remember the Sith Empire lead by the Sith
Jedi: Yeah
The Old Republic: Let's make it so that no one will know the difference between a Jedi and Sith by banning all knowledge on them
Jedi: Are you sure that won't bite us on the ass later
The Old Republic: Nah
But the Jedi probably caused their own downfall because they most likely are the one to ban knoweldge about the sith
@@bryanmanuel4945 has that ever worked out giving people information about something. Especially something that they can easily tap into or awakened. For those who don’t know when the Trade Federation and the Huk convinced the Republic to send Jedi to Kalee to wipe out the Kaleesh people is why General Grievous became involved in the war as he was once a Kaleesh warrior who was fighting to liberate his people from the Huk before becoming a cyborg
The Jedi forsake the dark, while the sith turn their backs on the light. Neither know what true balance is
Grey Jedi know what the true balance is.
SerbianSlav How could you say something so true yet so controversial?
Revan will rise again! :D
Jedi was right at first. but they got to close to politics and serving the republic. The dark side is never the answer. Its a cancer, not a side of the Force. GL said it himself.

Palpatine: Jedis Suck Let Me Give The Power Back To The People. Blows Up Planets Where The Humans Or Other Races Live.
This the name of the next movie? why you type like that?
I would like to see/read a story involving a Jedi who's stationed by a village or something and encounters confusion/hate from locals, with the children of the village not understanding why. The Jedi could sit them down and briefly run them through the Jedi Order's purpose, what Sith are, etc. I think that would be a great episode of The Clone Wars (bonus points if it's set before and/or during Order 66) or, with it now over, Rebels, with Kanan and Hera being the ones to sit down and educate the young children. I say Hera because Ezra doesn't know everything about the Jedi way, Ahsoka is still gone for now, and I like the idea of Kanan talking to Hera about the Jedi and her picking up a few things over the years.
What is interesting is that Luke actually told his Padawans to talks to the common people of the galaxy which the old order never did
I absolutely love the artwork you use in the videos
Could you make a video about :
"What was the relationship between clone troopers and storm troopers in the early years of the Empire' army ?
"We never really got used to the new guys"
Was this anti Jedi sentiment by the public also directed at Anakin Skywalker since he was hailed as a hero in the Republic?
+Double A Batteries The same propaganda that glorified Palpatine also did the same to Anakin, as Palpatine planned out to have Anakin be his second in command once the empire took over. To paint him as the hero who crushed the Jedi traitors. But due to his injuries and need to be in a suit, this plan didn't really work out like it was supposed to. So instead Anakin was said to have died during the purge, and that Vader was an entirely separate person.
Fact Free Makes sense, cheers mate. :)

8:44 It's ironic ! They (the Jedi) could save others from having a bad reputation, but not themselves.
In other words the Jedi had this coming for a long long time. Thank you Fact Free for making these vids don't stop making them anytime soon
they are evil because one of them has the high ground.
The High Ground wasn't enough to save the Jedi Order.
Kotor 1 also shows some this anti-jedi semtiment while you're on Dantooine, when the mandalorians star harassing farmers.
Kotor 2, it also seems the opinion of jedi on dantooine again, is not very positive.
Bry-Fi the Leviathan wasn’t at Dantooine, it was busy capturing the Ebon Hawk and torturing its occupants.

Yes omfg YESSS
In the clone wars tv show it makes sense that they mistaken jar jar for a jedi because he is a sith
this is the best comment
And this is why I love the Sith.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion, through passion I gain strength, through strength I gain power, through power I gain victory, through victory my chains are broken. The force shall free me.
I understand why other planets didn’t want Jedi to tell them how to do things. I mean, you just don’t go to another man’s house and tell them how to run things around, you just don’t.
There’s more to it than “tell other people how to do things”, but the Jedi never effectively communicate anything to the masses of quintillions who lie mostly uninformed about them
@@wildfire9280 I respect the Jedi council, but don’t believe in everything they say. I believe in a balance between order and chaos. Yin and Yang. If I was to choose between light and dark side, I’d choose my own path, as a grey Jedi does. Fight for what I believe in what’s right.
Could you do how the galaxy reacted when they found out Palpatine created the clone wars?
“Rebuild the Jedi order? Oh you poor fool. The Jedi fell long before the purge. They were stifled by tradition” taron Malicos to cal kesties

People always blame the jedi for using clones, but the clones where made to severe.
They wouldn't exist if there was no need for soldiers, they owe their existence to that need hence they should be used for it
I’m not watching this because I don’t wanna feel bad about my 8 year old fantasy of being a jedi
The jedi were hated because they were all rough and coarse, and got everywhere! No wonder Vader wanted to kill them all!
That Obi Wan X-Men cover is pretty cool.
Still gotta love that days of future past reference in the thumbnail
This just makes me happier that the Republic suffered under Palpatine's grasp. They were so stupid, that they thought the Jedi wanted to control the Republic, even after they suggested the Senate create an oversight committee thousands of years earlier.
Adrian C damn, that's harsh, but fair, oddly enough
And I'm sure there aren't any real life parallels of people believing what they're told or want to believe.
hows do the people react to Palpatine's new look?
Dewit.
Hiro Tatsuya "do you poop out of that butt crack on your head?"
Augusto Pinochet, he all ways looked like that but he used that was unknown to the senate and the Republic citizens. he used that as the backstory to further progress his political state in the eyes of the citizens.so ya that's why they were sympathetic to plapatine's true state. don't quite know how he did it but some ware there must have been a mask involved not sure tho.
Palpatine used his scars as a symbol of his endurance shouting “yeah I got my face melted but if anyone else wants a piece of me... Come get some!”
Talking about Snoke ⁉🙄🤔😁
your points are valid but only in the context that most ordinary people in the Galactic Republic were ignorant of what the Jedi and Sith generally stood for before and after the clone wars. both Jedi and Sith were careful to protect their doctrine and identities and their mandate or agenda was only available to those within that chosen organisation. This is why an old republic series is much needed now on tv to flesh out what they both stood for and why their struggle for survival was titanic. which as you have pointed out did not matter to the ordinary citizen but were caught in the middle of this devastating fight anyway.
As usually happens, TBH. Ordinary people don't really care as long as it doesn't effect them. They just want to get on with their lives.
8:38 I would have LOVED to the the Jedi fight like this. Love the picture.
I remember all the way back in 1998, the Star Wars official website had a series of profiles on all the major characters. Mind you this was before the prequel series. Perhaps one of the most interesting leaks in all of Star Wars was the update of the emperor’s profile talking all about how he was a senator and how he played multiple sides to get what he wanted. The old draw of the prequels was the answering of age old questions, the lifting of the veil… my how far we’ve come.

Someone did media analysis about how the Jedi order has an extremely toxic and dysfunctional attitude. Imagine a setting where the sith are the good guys and the Jedi the bad guys. The Sith could basically just be shifted slightly to represent freedom while the Jedi are stuck up and oppressive.

The fact that they banned Sith texts shows the Jedi did not support free speech
So for example, if someone writes a book showing how to make a bomb, would it be free speech and moral to have it be published and widely accessed?
@@based4560 point missing it "based4560" by obliterating all references of Sith and the dozens of tyrannical, war hungry empires that they gave rise to it all throughout galactic history. not only do the general public of the republic, but all of the galaxy have no idea who or what the Sith are. the order of the Sith lords took advantage of the people's lack of knowledge of the last Jedi/Sith war to slowly rebuild their power base, gather armies to their cause, frame the jedi by committing crimes, war crimes and atrocities in the disguise of jedi and ultimately take the seat of the chancellor office for themselves and then eventually the galactic emperor (I.E. Palpatine took the office) hence the saying "those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it"
