- Jerry Falwell trying to do some damage control just moments after getting screamed at by a member of the studio audience he was just addressing minutes earlier.
At :54, the clown (Derek Floyd) who sang in an attempt to distract the studio and TV-watching audience says, quite stupidly, "Jerry, just one word from me to you... I support you... period."
Um, isn't that FOUR words? Talk about someone kissing Falwell's ass.
Not sure of the exact date this was recorded on, but it was between July 6 and July 20, 1987.

I bought a PTL songbook at a Goodwill store for a dollar a few years ago. I'm hoping it will be a collector's item one day. If not, it has some of my favorite songs in it and only costed a buck.
Am proud to say I sent in a substantial amount of dud checks to support the cause.

You obviously haven't seen the part 1 video, and the comments I added to it. I picked apart the entire 10-minute segment, closely observing when the audience clapped & stood up all at once, simultaneously, as if on cue, when music began, etc.
Watch that vid and read my comments and THEN tell me I obviously have no clue how a program like that works. I've sat in that very same audience MANY times in the 80's.
At no point was there any indication that anyone told Derek to say what he said.

In the end nobody got anything! They closed the place down and today it stands in ruins except for the part being used by the Morning Star ministries. And that's another story in of itself...Morning Star!!!

I think this should serve as a warning to all believers: in spite of your profession, your apparent good morals, and outward appearance, what secret agendas are you hiding? What ungodly things are you planning to get that job, get that promotion, to get that girfriend/boyfriend, etc? Who are you using to get what you want? We are so good at deceiving ourselves, thinking we're always the good guy. Thank you Lord for you mercy on me.
Yes, he probably was told to get up there and start singing to distract the audience- both studio and live telecast. But why the kiss-ass statement afterwards?
"He had to give an account for that IN HEAVEN"...with this and the MULTIPLE comments Mr. Falwell have said over the years in regards to 9/11 and AIDS... Mr. Falwell is no where NEAR Heaven. I'm sure he's got quite the tan where he's at right now.

I simply drew up my own conclusions after closely watching the videos. I am sorry if my conclusions differ from yours. You are more than welcome to review what I've written and correct anything you deem as needing corrected. If I am wrong on something, I will admit so. But until that point, I think I am right on the money as far as everything I've written thus far.
It would of been more merciful to give to the "timeshare-believers" in the audience KOOLAID.

I'm really glad I got to see this. I never liked Jerry Fallwell, but I never saw this before either. At least he tried to keep PTL afloat.
I remembered when PTL was selling timeshares. I wanted one but couldn't bring myself to buy one because I knew the math didn't work. It couldn't be sustainable. And when I asked myself honestly, 'was this a donation or a purchase of a timeshare?' I believed it was a purchase, and that's why I couldn't go thru with it.
Falwell never had 1/100 of the stage presecnce of Bakker. That’s why he always was a complete failure. Bakker could sell bacon to Muslims.

This makes me ill but I cannot look away. I remember watching PTL in college for the entertainment factor because it just seemed like it couldn't be real. Who buys into this stuff? And Falwell's smarminess is something else.

The show and ministry of PTL was built around the personalities of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. Jerry Falwell was a stark contrast to them and rather .....boring..... on TV. I wonder why they didn't recognize that mistake and try to spruce it up. Or I guess he wanted to hog all the air time? It's just weird

He was on the PTL Club show when Jim & Tammy ran it, and later, obviously, when Falwell was at the helm. Seems like Floyd is the type that will switch allegiance to whomever is in charge if it gets him on TV. So, yes, he seems like a "clown" to me.

I've been watching (and reading comments) on lots of videos about the PTL scandal, Jim Bakker, Jerry Falwell, etc. And, although not FULLY familiar with what it's all about (I admit), I am a little surprised that people who comment generally think Jerry Falwell was worse than Jim Bakker. :-O But weren't they BOTH con-artists? Was one worse than the other? And about Tammy Faye - she never did jail time (correct me if I'm wrong), but was she completely innocent in the whole scandal? Surely she knew about the tax fraud, overselling of memberships, etc. And yet Jim is the only one who did jail time. Call me "confused".
Jerry Falwell was indeed way worse than Jim Bakker. Jim Bakker wasn’t living any differently than Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson, but unlike them, he didn’t pretend to live modestly. He was very open about the way he lived the whole time. Let’s be honest. Falwell and Robertson came in offering to clean it all up and assured him that in 6 weeks they’d be restored and to just “wrote down how much money you make each year, so we can determine how much to send you so you’ll keep this ha up while you’re away.” Then Falwell took it straight to the reporters and made them out to be unrepentant. He failed to mention the fact that he himself made even more money.
I'm guessing the elder Bakkers were told to sit down as to avoid being seen on camera.
Jerry Falwell was a joke. I'm sure that he had his followers. It's "ministers" like him and some others that caused me to think of televangelists the same way I think about politicians and used car salesmen.

the only thing that Jerry Falwell was interested in was acquiring the PTL television network for his own show The Old Time Gospel Hour! he actually was bitter when Jim Bakker Turned Down The Old Time Gospel Hour from the PTL Network saying that the Baptist theology did not fit with the Evangelical Theology of PTL viewers! I believe Jerry Falwell sabotaged this ministry.
