  • Hello everyone!
In this video I'm rebuilding the rear master cylinder on a 2000 BMW F650GS. You can find other videos on this bike on my channel.
The owner complaint was rear calliper binding and overheating sometimes.
Hope you enjoyed the video and consider subscribing.
    Thanks for watching!

It’s inspiring how much you can get done in such a tight place. I’m referring of course to The Garage!
I hope your channel blows up and you can get into a bigger one in no time

@@akoslengyel4712 It might be nice, but I didn’t think anyone would b interested in something like that. It feels like I’m trying to show off.

Really liked this one. The voice-over was a nice touch. You could possibly put a link to the kit in the description in case people who watch this want to buy it and do the job on their bikes.

      Thank you!
I could put a link, but there seem to be 2 variants of master cylinders for this bike and didn’t want anyone getting the wrong kit.

Great video.I am servicing my front brake master cylinder on my f650gs but the question is which seal do you replace on the piston as the rebuild kit only provides one seal an there are two. Many thanks

Hi there. I’m not sure there are 2 seals on the master cylinder. There’s the main seal and the bellow that protects the cylinder from the elements. Both should be included in a rebuilt kit.

Thankyou for the reply.Just one more question please is the seal the first one the piston or the second one. Also the rebuild kit only provides the seal, plunger and spring and the rubber cover for the f650gs.Thanks again. James

@@jamesgale1221 Hi James. Some bikes have 2 seals on the front master cylinder, but I believe the F650gs has only one going on the tip of it. If you bought a decent rebuild kit, it should have a diagram on how it goes together, or you can look at the old one and put it back together the same way :)

Hi, great video and explanations! I need to go through the same procedure (I don't get any pressure at all in the rear brake and I'm thinking the issue is with the master cylinder) and I'm a bit worried about air getting trapped in the system and triggering the ABS; so my question is, do you need to reset the ABS after the procedure? Thanks

Hey there. Thank you for your comment and sorry for the late reply.
You can treat it like a non abs bike and bleed the brakes normally. With the right scan tool you can cycle the solenoid valves in the abs unit to dislodge any air bubbles, but you shouldn’t need to. You can more or less achieve the same effect by braking hard to activate the abs. Just do it carefully 🙂

I’m using brake cleaner. It’s really good stuff. Use it on anything that needs degreasing and usually buy 40-50L at a time as it works out cheaper.

why did you rebuild the rear cylinder? what was the issue? what was the break funcionality before the rebuild?

    • @garage_tales
      @garage_tales  2 роки тому

Hey there. The brake worked fine as far as I can see, but the owner suspended it was binding intermittently. I couldn’t prove that, but he wanted it rebuilt anyway for peace of mind.
