- So I was invited by WB (thank you by the way) to see an early screening of The Flash and unfortunately it was not...good...
This movie just had too many problems for me to overlook and as a lifelong Flash fan, I really wish it turned out differently. Here is my spoiler-free review of The Flash! I hope you enjoy :)
Editors note: So after sitting on this movie for a few days and re-living through some of the scenes through discussions with friends and social media, my score was a little too high for this one. Yeah I'm going to knock it down to around a 2.5/10. I was WAY TOO GENEROUS in this video with how much I ended up disliking this film. Most of this film's problems would've been solved with a better script and director, hopefully that comes with the new DCU. Also, I know we still have Aquaman II coming out (at some point) before this version of the DCEU FINALLY concludes, but this is what I felt was the last true attempt at closing out this series on a high note. I truly don't have high hopes for the second Aquaman, but maybe I'll eat my words!

This movie should have been the origin story. Like the first season of the flash
It does some origin story stuff but it feels very very disjointed

Hey, you have some really amazing and interesting comments. Is there anyway you could talk about maybe how you go there? For example I thought that the problem of having unfinished plot points was something I had not thought of and you saying that made me realize this is one of things I was missing when it felt off. Could you talk about how you would change and make it something where the plot points did hit so that I can look for this in the next films I watch?

Really just didn't need ANOTHER multiverse movie. There have been far too many recently.
Still going to see this to support dc and warner bros to create more dc films dcu needs a win, but I wish next time they recast flash for the new dcu.
🤔 what was missing was the character development of alternate universe General Zod, as well as the what's & why's of his new agenda being properly introduced to the audience to add logic to the threat he posed because he was no longer looking for Kal El, in his coming to earth, like in Man of Steel.

The DCEU ended in 2017. Everything since has been disjointed and directionless. This film seems to be using nostalgia, cameos and scenes from a ten year old movie to fake giving a satisfying conclusion to a successful cbm universe. They're even trying to tie it in with ZSJL to add more weight. WB should've stuck to their guns from BvS onwards, then had a proper Flashpoint film. People might've cared more.
Hmm I think the studio stepping in to have Zack Snyder change the tone of Justice League was actually one of the only good things they did. Lets face it, as much as I love Zack, some of his ideas were ridiculous and wouldn't have done him any favors. Cucking Superman by having Lois cheat on him with Bruce(on top of having his baby) or the old gods being Kryptonian was really stupid. I think the tone for ZSJL was perfect. A great blend of hope and grim. BVS was great but we really didn't need anymore dour movies which is what Zack probably wouldn't have continued with if the studio didn't stop him.
Honestly, if his version of JL came out in 2017, it probably would have redeemed him in the eyes of the public(because he wasn't much loved by the masses back then) and continuing the story from there would have saved the DCEU.
@@andrewvincent7299 them stepping in was fine, because as you say ZSJL is perfectly pitched. It should've been the way forward for the entire DCEU post 2017. But they overstepped, and here we are. He's not the first auteur to have been steered in another direction by a studio...but he's probably one of the few to be secure enough to detail such interference, deserved or otherwise, to the public.

However, the reason I write. I saw Across Spider-verse. Amazing. What a Masterpiece. I feel like if I go to watch The Flash, I'll hate it and feel dissapointed after watching Across the Spider Verse haha.

Same! After Transformers weekened, I'm going to watch that bad boy again. There's so much to catch on some frames from the movie that one viewing is not enough.

Guys, don't watch the movie. It's insulting to us as moviegoers, they want us to ignore the bad to find a way to like it. Felt like an EA game launch, waiting for updates to fix it.

The horrendous and embarrassing CGI, kids with a PC nowadays can do way better. Erza but 2 of them was obnoxious it gave a nauseous feeling. If the movie didn't have Batman in it, oooooooooof wouldn't even be watchable.
The embarrassing cameo's(won't spoil it) was in bad taste. The story was decent when they got back to it but still it wasn't hitting because the distracting CGI and obnoxious Ezra's. The microwave..... What on Earth was that.
The movie sucked. The fact people are being completely in denial trying to say people are hating is even more shocking.

How was General Zod in the film?
A big waste. For being as important as he was to the entire plot, he was pretty awful. A waste of his character

What I found striking is how opposite the message of this film is to Across the Spider-Verse. Two multiverse superhero movie with contradictory messaging… surreal. Obviously ATSV > Flash
I enjoyed the film. I think the emotional beats hit and the overall narrative worked even if the execution could have been better. I like that the main antagonist was Barry himself, his past self representing his mindset at the beginning of the film and his maturation throughout the film resulting in the final confrontation and resolution; and not some foreign existential threat like Zod and most other comic book movies. It's essentially a story about coming to terms with the past, accepting what has happened, and moving on.
To make a Spiderverse comparison, I'd say Flash is like Miguel O'Hara and by the time Spiderverse ends, their stories will essentially be mirror images. Both attempted to change/force reality to conform to their worldview. However reality doesn't play out the way they imagine (e.g. all the changes in Flash's universe; For Miguel, Mile's existence essentially invalidates everything he believes is supposed to happen. Heck, Gwen's father quitting the police force means that Gwen will no longer have the canon police captain death event). I posit that in the spiderverse sequel Miguel will realize that he was wrong to exert control over reality and will come to terms with letting things play out.
Reverse Flash isn't in the movie... really? Why?
Evidently WB and the people in charge of this movie aren't as plugged in to the fandom as they claimed to be or thought they were BECAUSE "It was me, Barry" was at the peak of its relevance when this was shooting.
For High Father's sake Eobard Thawne is the second most important character in that storyline yet he's not here.
Yea to be honest when this movie first got announced I genuinely thought we would be getting a 1:1 adaptation, which would’ve been exciting no doubt but look the story they went with isn’t necessarily a bad one, it just isn’t written well AT ALL (in my honest opinion).
@@SpacemanSR I thought it was going to be a combination of Justice League Dark: Apocalypse and Flashpoint.
I thought he would go back in time to avoid the events of the Knightmare timeline and then Flashpoint would happen and that the Black Flash portrayed in the trailer would be future Barry Allen who had been combined with the Black Racer or Death Flash by Darkseid.

@@Chilldude_101 the animated films are SO GOOD which does beg the question: If Flashpoint as a live adaptation cant really come close to what the animated movie did, they why even adapt the story? It was a strange decision but still I had hope. Maybe the full release next week will be a better movie haha
That's disappointing. I really want to like DC movies, especially riding off of the highs of The Dark Knight and Joker, but the majority of them are just so meh. It's so expensive to go see a movie anymore that I just don't want to waste the money. I hope the next iteration is better.

Can't trust a review from a person who loves the current dreck of modern Star Wars stuff. I'll see the film and judge it for myself.
Andor is about the only thing I've liked from modern SW but if you looked at any of the content you'd see that, thanks for watching tho!
