- Harriet - Goodbye Song (scene from the movie)
When that pharaoh chariot comes,
I'm gonna leave you
I'm bound for the Promised Land,
I'm gonna leave you
I'm sorry I'm gonna leave you,
Farewell, Oh farewell
But I'll meet you in the morning,
Farewell, Oh farewell
I'll meet you in the morning,
I'm bound for the Promised Land
On the other side of Jordan,
Bound for the Promised Land
I'm sorry I'm gonna leave you,
Farewell, Oh farewell
But I'll meet you in the morning,
Farewell, Oh farewell
Oh oh, I'll meet you in the morning,
Farewell, Oh farewell
Oh, I'll meet you in the morning,
Farewell, Oh farewell...
Cynthia Erivo should have won the Oscar - her singing and acting in this movie was brilliant!!!
I agree.
muffin Elton John I think
Literally tho she should have won Evey possible singing and acting reward there is
I know!
This movie is st true if u wanna watch it go to prime and type her name in
When she says “I’m sorry I’m gonna leave you” I felt that 😔
Ikr 😪
Same
Same, that dialogue makes me shiver
Indeed
Me too
This the song she really song in real life before she left to her sister true story
Zeke For keeps I thought this song was created for the movie? It says Terence Blanchard composed the song and wrote the lyrics 🤔
@@TheGreekPianist She resinging it. This song was sung by Harriet. She was letting her family know that she leaving to the promise land which was the North. But she be back to free more slaves eventually and anither cool thing about her was she was first female to lead an Army successfully in the United states. None of her men were injured and she knew where Confederates were hiding at and knew were the slaves are at.
Mr NOTME Oh wow. Well whenever I type the lyrics in Google, it only refers to the movie and Terence Blanchard. I haven’t seen any sites that say she sang it in real life. But that’s amazing if she did! ♥️
I made a piano cover of the song! I did it completely by ear. I’d love for you guys to listen to it and comment on it! 😊 ua-cam.com/video/MJpoi7Yfpsc/v-deo.html
Naw duh
It’s so sad when her mother realizes and all she does is sing good bye to her daughter no hug no kiss only freedom bound edit: just wanted to say this was no I’ll intent with the comment I simply was saying that her determination to freedom was powerful
Yea but like Harriet doesn't have enough time. But I agree
Blake Waterman dude imagine being a slave and hearing your child is going to be free , not to be biased around . that’s better than a hug goodbye, and if she probably went for a hug she would’ve gave away she’s leaving and her master would’ve found her she had no time in point. it doesn’t matter anyway bc she takes her mom with her farther from the south .
You're parents want the best for you yet doing slavery every time you get the chance to be free take it.
But harriet came back to save her parents and everybody else
See, her mother started singing mostly to cover up the fact that Harriet was singing. The last thing she would want was to give her away. The master's son was walking up trying to find who was singing the goodbye song. So they all started singing, partially as a goodbye but also to throw Gideon off.
How are people going to say “the real Harriet Tubman didn’t act like this” when no one really knows exactly how she acted because none of us were born when she was alive 🤔🤔🤔
Exactly
We can’t say that. But we all know she was 1000s times better. Helping all those people. People don’t show enough respect.
Her family and descendants are still alive. And when she was freed in the north, the freed black people taught her how to read and write. As well as helped her and the slaves she helped freed write their stories. Look up William Still, the abolitionist who helped created the Underground Railroad. His grandson is literally a famous football player in his 30s, Devon Still.
Righttt
Well it’s not like you know so shh
Imagine if Harriet didn’t leave. She was a strong woman to leave and come back for her family.
My grandma's mom would probably be stuck if harriet didn't do anything 😩
@@data_storytelling9167 ;-;
@@data_storytelling9167 wait was your grandmothers mom actually rescued by Harriet
That’s pretty interesting
Imagine that! There would be no us. Amazing woman
This part made me cry and usually I don’t cry watching certain movies but this part was so touching and sad on how she has to sing to say goodbye and the other slaves sing with her to cover her up to leave an her voice so he doesn’t know where for sure the sound is coming from it’s just ughh😢❤️
Jasmine Washington I think they’re saying goodbye too
When I saw this film in the theaters, everyone clapped after this scene. They clapped again when the movie was over. Never in my life have I been to a movie in the theaters that audiences clapped at.
Good evening pls can I get the movie via my email pls
also if you looked in the back of harriets mother the girl looked up at her and thought that she was just singing but then i found out everyone was singing cause i thought only harriet's mother was singing but i guess not😅
I've been playing this song and the other song Stand Up on repeat since I've seen the movie the other night.

This song gave me goosebumps. It was so good.

“Fair old chariot”. Not “pharaoh chariot”
Her voice is just crazy
No, it's beautiful
@@Fluffy4727 that’s what they meant💀
@@aeniverse4 Ik I just wanted to apply that :/
@@Fluffy4727 oh okay
ugh , been thinking of this song all day at school😕.
The history of this song is Slaves use this to signal to other slaves they were leaving and good bye that is why it's called the good bye song
I love how song was used to communicate and slave owners didn't have a clue.
@@miar7027 I was getting ready to post the same thing. We we’re communicating with each under right under their stupid noses and they didn’t have a clue.✊🏽✊🏽
So good yalll 😫😭
Jameal S I made a piano cover of it! :) ua-cam.com/video/MJpoi7Yfpsc/v-deo.html
I literally got chills every time she sang!!!!OSCAR OSCAR!!!
My favorite part about this movie is either is Harriet's courage or the songs, this is my favorite one because everyone knew what the song meant and everyone started singing when the white guy came around so he would think it's just some song
Wait she didnt win an oscar for harriet ARE YOU SERIOUS THIS MOVIE BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES
When I saw this scene in the theaters everyone clapped after this song was over. They all clapped again at the end credits. It’s the only time I’ve ever experienced an audience clapping in a movie theater. Not even for films like Les Miserables, Little Women, or any other film I’ve seen in the theaters have the audiences clapped at. That says something to this movie’s brilliance.
Bruh the theatre I went to they didn’t clap for this movie 😐 But they had the audacity to clap for Cinderella DBISSHS
@@andioop6533 WTF??!!!! I hope those people were 10 and under
When I went to the movies there was no one except my mom, sister and me and when we bought tickets at the front everyone was shocked that someone decided to watch the movie
i am so sad that racisim is a thing
A movie cant describe what it was like in the darkest time in american history... all i can say God bless then hundreds and thousands of slaves who gave their lives helping and fighting for freedom and the freedom for others.
This movie is like 95 percent accurate
This is so good it gives me chills
It does
I loved how they communicated in song
My dear Lord.
Cynthia Erivo's singing sounds like an angel 😇
“Justice is what love sounds like when it speaks in public”-Eric M. Dyson
This song hit real different and I don’t know why...I just really felt the emotion in this one. Just the “Farewell, oh Farewell”, like,
I wish you’d stay longer but it was never meant to be
Go on be free fulfill that destiny
God will lead the way to the destined promiseland
But the time will come when you must hold you own hand
Free your brethren but please don’t forget me
Will you promise to remember me?
Now you mustn’t waste your time for you have no time to dwell
So as my parting words, “Farewell, oh Farewell...”
I had shivers 5x while watching this movie
Is it just me or does the comment section have a lot of inspirational saying?
Had to get the Blu-ray such a powerful woman 💯
I tried so hard to damn finish this movie but i kept rewinding it to this part..😭💔
Can you please tell me the movie name please?

Cynthia deserved that Oscar!
I really wish the filmmakers would release the version heard in the trailer (it’s more fast-paced, has drums in the background, and sounds real epic!),
We spoke and sung in code to communicate our messages. Blessed are my people💜.
Its actually sickening that they did this to people !
Worst part is that this isn't even half of it, the punishments in this film are probably no where near as bad as how it really used to be. There was definetly a lot more violence in real life, not as much in the movie so that people can watch it.
When I first saw this scene in theaters, I immediately started bawling and tried my best to wipe my tears away. It broke my heart that she wasn’t able to say a final goodbye to her mother before escaping. I can’t imagine the horrible shit African Americans had to go through and it pains me to hear how they were treated on a daily base. Harriet is one brave soul
Honestly we should just manifest that she gets to be replaced on the dollar bill. She at least deserves that after all the shit she’s been through
Well there is the harriet tubman day on March 10th

Sorry about that, I totally forgot there was a holiday. I also typed this without thinking and it was late at night, if I can recall. Thanks for letting me know 🤗
The African who later became African Americans shouldn’t be called slaves they were in enslaved. They are human not slaves.
@@kedesti.4516 Oh my, I'm terribly sorry. I didn't realize my mistake. I'll edit that for you

When I play this song a wave of emotion comes over me I can feel the pain and everything it’s so devastating
Fun fact: That's how the blues were born
I keep watching the movie over and over🖒🖒🖒😀
I’m a sophomore in high school and we’re watching this in my African-American experience class and I’m literally obsessed with this song for some reason.
Me too! Her voice has some kind of drug that makes me love it so much

This movie was incredible. Cynthia’s performance was outstanding!
Ever since I'd watched the movie these have been stuck in my head and I love these songs🎶🎶
When she said "I'm sorry I'm gonna leave you," and her mom perked up I started to tear up I can't even imagine
What's the name of this movie
@@allydavid2643 Harriet
I wish I could sang this song to all my exes
How? This song has no revelation to your exes at all, this is literally a song that tells the slaves that someone is leaving for freedom from slavery.
@@abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz638 first off I was semi watching this movie and I didn't understand the Deep feeling of this song so I apologize for my comment
I know she's just an actor and not the real person... but I still wish for her to a HUGE REWARD in Heaven!!
The bravest women on earth ...no women on earth can come close to hear !
Nobody mentions about Harriet Tubman that she was a Prophetess,God Showed her what to do and how to do it out there…She couldn’t have done it without Jesus The Christ!!!

Omg so beautiful
i sung this at church...we was doing a play 😭 i was scared as freak THEN U GOT MORE THAN 100 PEOPLE IN YO FAMILY BROOOOO 💀
This movie mad me cry 😢 because she was close to God
right when this movie came out and i watched in class i wrote about her because she is my hero
idc how strong u think you are, this hits that spot
Farewell Farewell!
Because of black people’s history, I was kinda ashamed to be a black little girl.
Watching this movie made me proud 🥲
I love how this song was actually made by her
It was not made by her this song is what Harriet actually sang to her sister and many other slaves sang this same song
The three dislikes are from Donald Trump, Bigger Long, and Gideon Brodess.
Miss Independent a i get the gideon part but the donald trump part is unnecessary he’s your president wether you like it or not

This is a masterpiece ❤️❤️
Cynthia was robbed from that Oscar.
Absolute Inspiration..!! 💜
My favorite scenes are when she sings
This song was running through my head, had to find it!😊
I like how they changed some the lyrics/ moved them around to make a new rendition for this generation understand and in honor of Harriet. A+
Powerful song.🙂
This was a very good movie!
Love itt
This made me cry so hard 😭
And yet they tell my ppl to get over slavery! That pisses me the fk off so bad!!😡😡😡😡😡
Did her mother know she was leaving through this song? If she did this is an amazing scene
Yes
It’s how slaves often communicated. It’s how a lot of our black hymns originated
Oh I am sorry I am gonna leave you oh farewell farewell oh I am sorry I am gonna leave you farewell oh farewell
Too bad this movie didn't portray Harriet story correctly.
So?
Mr NOTME It did. It just embellished it, like ALL Hollywood films that portray true stories! It’s still a wonderful, powerful portrayal of her life as a hero!
@@TheGreekPianist It didn't at all. It had black man bouty hunter for the South which never happen and also it doesn't really show the harsh eviroments slaves was in and how badly they was treated. This was watered down with hollywood putting stuff that not true. They may got few things right but the rest isn't accurate.
@limelyne No it's because of Hollywood.
@limelyne How? For telling the truth about how Harriet movie wasn't accurate.
This song has a lot of meaning yall don’t even know😭😭😭
Cynthia erivo should have won the oscar.
I loved this movie so much
this movie was really amazing
I always shed tears when listening to this song
Great way to communicate using music - heartfelt song

mariyah’s famous scene
I’m not the only one that cried during this movie
American and europian nations should publicly apologise and neal covered in ashes repenting before GOD just like the niniveans did from the leader to the smallest person seeking for His forgiveness for this awfull sin that endured centuaries.
THIS SONG TOUCHES ME IN EVERY WAY
This scene gives me goosebumps. So terrifying, bold, and courageous.
Donde puedo encontrar la pelicula
Cynthia painted a picture and took me back in time to that era! She should've absolutely gotten the Academy Award! Sing,,acting she did it! Just like Diana Ross in Lady sings the Blues!...they gave Halle Berry an Oscar for a sex scene disregarded all her other work, Denzel for training Day portrayed a bad cop but not for his brilliance in Malcolm and Monique molesting and abusing Precious, finally Jennifer for Dteamgirls loosely based off the Supremes hardships! Yeah...we don't get Oscar's for depth of characters! Ohhh Octavia for maid in The Help!!
Amo essa parte ❤
I ALREADY KNOW THE SONG BEFORE I LISTENED AND I NEVER LISTENED WTF IS WRONG WITH ME
Nothin like the real "field hims"that reach ur soul!
