I can’t believe this song didn’t win the Best Original Song award at the Oscars. It tells such a powerful _true story_ of enslaved people on their journey to freedom. A meaningful song with so much power, intensity, and deep emotion. it’s a wonderful tribute to Harriet Tubman as well. She was a true African-American hero and this song gives her so much justice. @@michalthebarbiedoll It’s also about Christianity. Harriet Tubman said that she could hear from God telling her where they needed to go throughout the movie. “I go to prepare a place for you” is a verse directly from the Bible. That’s why the person above feel a connection to the song because it’s very Spiritual. If you love God, that song is going to pull at your heart.

As a 12 year old girl I am proud to be black. My ancestors ran so we could walk. They fought so we could live. The world is changing and people need to accept that everything on this world is meant to be here. We are going to stand up for what's right. And we're gonna get equality no matter what it takes. #BlackLivesMatter isn't a trend it's something that will matter for ever. Are voices are going to be heard. We are going to live. We are going to make our ancestors proud. I'm 13 now, turning 14 in September. I never expected for this comment to get this many likes, thank you to everyone who has replied with positive comments and the wonderful support as well. May God bless you all ❤️
She was so brave. Not only did save her own life, but instead of staying in freedom...she went back and rescued countless black people too. A true Hero ♥️✊🏿 #blacklivesMatter
I have always admired Harriet Tubman story in all remakes but i loved this one the most i think. Something always stays with me because i see it so often today and its very sad....she said that she could have freed a lot more had they only known they were slaves😔😢
Same, it's a constant echo in my spirit. I am so grateful and humbled for the sacrifices that made freedom possible. Thank you Cynthia Erivo for singing such a beautiful song.
I heard this song on TikTok and immediately started crying because its vibration is so strong! Then found this video and well you can imagine. Thank you for this master piece!
I also found this through tiktok, i found this song powerful and emotional because they used it to show that it doesn't matter "what you wearing" for r4pe victims. There was a display of clothes on the wall and it was extremely sad because there were baby onesies, a tinkerbell costume, and prom dresses
The song shouldnt be used for other bad situations, though. It takes away the actual meaning of the song which is about black people being used as slaves before, so if a female on tiktok uses this sound behind her talking about s*xual assault it isn't right cause viewers won't focus on the meaning of the sound she's using. But I'm not saying the s*xual assault thing isn't important. :)
I'm not black, but this song hits me right in the soul. Racism is so unneccecary and I hope everybody will stand up for everyone who is facing oppression. We stand with you ❤

The master got mad and went to get a plier and was about to pull all my great aunt Evelyn’s teeth out for punishment but his wife stopped him. She got lucky
I’m not black and get emotional hearing this. It makes me angry and sad to think that a fellow human being treated another the way black people were treated throughout times of slavery. I’ll never be able to fix what happened but I am so sorry, person A will never have more or less rights than person B for we all should aim to be equal. 😢
Dorothy Range facts I feel the same way! We as blacks who understand and get it and who loves the lord and his him in our presence and in us get it! Hi Brandy! I agree so much with you!! I am 63 years old and i have listened to a lot of music. Of course, there are different styles in which people do better. But i agree with you, miss Erivo is more than stunning: she is kind of perfect. I am french from Québec, and you see? She is here already! Au revoir! xx
The “I go to prepare a place for you” hit me so differently I just feel at peace so much that I cried when I first heard it , it was like I knew I would be ok. Knowing that I haven’t gone through what she went through ( referring to Harriet ).
I feel a deep sadness that most African Americans will never come to Africa and will never know their people's people. Yet, in your survival, you found a way to fight for all of us black people. Your strength and resilience is unimaginable. As an African, thank you . Sincerely.
Everyone on this production slugged through the muck and hardship to see it come to fruition. None more than Cynthia. It was an honor and a privilege. This song embodies ancestral struggles, the journey through to our accomplishments and current travesty. It’s far from over. Dec. 2024
As a black Caribbean woman, this song speaks to my heart, my mind and soul. We have come far but our journey is not over. Slavery may be finished but the hatred is still here. Thank you to those who helped because our ancestors wouldn't have made it this far without your help. 🙏

I am not black but I do support BLM with every inch of my soul, this song made me bust out in tears for what my people have done to POC and just thinking about it makes me sick. This song is so so so beautiful and the way she sings with so much emotion absolutely moves my heart. I am so so sorry if you are a POC and have ever had to deal with racsism, your skin color does not define you as a human being or makes you any less of a person. Youre beautiful, youre brave, and youre sure as hell stronger than anyone i have ever met. To all my fellow white people or anyone who needs to hear this, we can help be part of the change, we can help them gain teh justice they oh so deeply deserve. We can help. Nothing will ever be able to fix all the damage thats already been done, but we can help with future damage.
I love you and I don’t even know you, for you to feel like this shows that all people are not the same. I am 66 years old and I have never heard another race make a statement like this to people of color. When you said it makes you sick that’s true love of GOD appearing in a spiritual body that’s bound for the promised land. Don’t ever let anyone change who you are, just keep feeling like you do toward others.

I saw a comment of a Muslim sister, just like her I'm not black but I'm a Christian girl in a Muslim country. I am standing with you, I am standing with her. Proudly. Maybe we have different cultures, different beliefs but those are what make us stronger together ❤️✊🏿✊🏽✊🏻
@@drae4526 Unfortunately that's true. I am Turkish. Unlike other similar countries we are free and we can go to church. But there's always pressure on us. Police waits outside of churches to protect Christians. But in some countries governments punish people because of their faith. I hope these will make the church stronger. God may give all Christian's strength to spread Gospel.
@@DiVA-xl6tp Oh don't worry, I know that not all Muslims are like that. Most of my friends and family are Muslims so I cannot say I'm bullied by Muslim people. It's just how politics and religion become together and put the "different ones" under pressure. Actually it's same for Christians too. Some people get bullied by Christians and it shouldn't be like that. ps. I love Muslims ♥️😊

@Daniel Gwiggner hey please stop that. Stop it right now. God is us?!!!! Do you know what you are talking about? I think Black Americans need to be healed from emotional sickness. It is so deep. I think losing their root is the problem... We black are with white yellow children of God. But once one starts to considerer itself superior then start a conflict. The whites did it, but we, we are not going to do the same. But unfortunately, that is what is going on with the BLM movement. They are trying to fight racism but instead are actively doing everything to increase it
I love this song, makes me think of our Heavenly Father who sacrificed His son for our salvation, so we all can be together someday with HIM… Just like He promised Abraham and his descendants, and He told Moses that he would lead the Israelites out of Egypt to a land flowing with milk and honey. May we all come to Him in repentance so we can all make it to heaven, YAH is so good! John 14:2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 🙏🏻🙌🏻❤️
Sorry to break it to you, but there are not "innocent" black americans being killed by the police; So far all of the deaths were from felons, and armed people against the police; Look at Joshua for example; he committed 7 felonies and had a knife in his hand resisting arrest; He was a threat and got shot; There is nothing different about these times except for the lying media
@@falkyraizu3063 Yes there are. There was a little boy who got killed by police because his mother called the police to help him,he was having a mental breakdown. But instead he got shot and died. Also the cops aren't the people who decide who live or not. I haven't heard any stories of a white person getting killed for doing the same things. There's lot of racial discrimination going on in the goverment
@@tenderfoxmeat The irony is that your telling a story about a "young boy" that you yet have no name for; Statistically speaking white people are proportionately killed more from the police than black people, and when you look at unarmed black civilians who die every year it is only 6, better yet unarmed still dosen't mean dangerous, and the numbers can be lowered even more; All of these modern examples of "innocent" black people dying are not innocent; Breonna Taylor, Joshua, Floyd, Foreman, etc; The list goes on; These were criminals who were dealing with the police, not innocent black people; The only reason why you haven't heard stories on white people who died from the police is because the media is obsessed with stories on african americans and this "systemic racism" that they face to get more clicks on their articles; I can list several white men who died from the police, yet the media dosen't display them; There isn't racial discrimination, and the police don't decide who lives or not;
@@falkyraizu3063 Your are a liar and spewing lies and false information. Black people are killed at a higher disproportionate rate by the police than white people. phys.org/news/2020-07-white-people-black-police.html "The police don't decide who lives or not.." Um, yeah, who pulls the trigger?
@@hallothar6842 The police pulls the trigger on people who are a threat to their lives, such as violent criminals, armed felons, etc; Just like all democrats you are salty and butthurt over the truth; The link you sent isn't a credible source; I love how you call this "false information" yet fail to argue at a single point that I have made so far AND my examples; This clearly shows you are the uneducated one; Facts don't care about your feelings;
Why the song is literally about freedom of the black people that was enslaved by white native American and she literally want black people to be free i won't deny am black and yes or country Jamaica gain independence in 1962. the Africans was brought to Jamaica to work. on the ship some of them jumped off due to harsh treatments they were chained up to gather and the spot they where placed they had to urinate their and also sleep their and other things some of them got sick and they where not assisted to so they eventually died and when they arrive they had to immediately go to work on a sugar plantation some of them ran away up into the hills nanny our national hero ran away too thats why in Jamaica we have a town call the maroon town. Am not gonna lie but my great grandfather an my grandfather on his side of the family they are maroons and am a maroon too my dad is one my uncle my aunt my cousin on my dad side they are maroons
we watched this clip in class and i almost teared up because of the truth behind this song and the fact that the african american people went through so so much. RESPECT!
Africans too friend. Though many forget that. Even after slavery ended in America, it didn't for many of those in Africa. But we're getting better now by God's grace.

My grandmother's name was Harriet... And was born in North Carolina. How ironic. What has been buried for far too long... Will be unearthed. And that which they tried to hide. Will be uncovered for all to see. And it will make history! Praise you Jesus! This victory is for you!!! While God says... LET MY PEOPLE GO!! 🔥❤️
@Sunshine Bright WTF SHE DOES NOT HATE BLACK PEOPLE BITCH. I don't understand. Is she really that bad of a singer? Is she a bad person who deserves to be in jail? Did she murder someone? Did she do something to hurt you? Be honest and see if everyone agrees with her. See if you can get all Cynthia fans to agree with you. Oh right we're all idiots for being a fan of hers. That's cool I rather be a fan of hers than be an idiot thanks. She's a real sweetheart.
@ISaidIt 2 Did you have the same energy when African American played African characters? Forest Whitaker won an Oscar for one I believe and Jennifer Hudson played Nelson Mandela's wife... Trust me if a white supremacist sees a black african or an african American he won't see the difference because we are BLACK! I also found this through tiktok, i found this song powerful and emotional because they used it to show that it doesn't matter "what you wearing" for r4pe victims. :)

@@tenderfoxmeat The irony is that your telling a story about a "young boy" that you yet have no name for; Statistically speaking white people are proportionately killed more from the police than black people, and when you look at unarmed black civilians who die every year it is only 6, better yet unarmed still dosen't mean dangerous, and the numbers can be lowered even more; All of these modern examples of "innocent" black people dying are not innocent; Breonna Taylor, Joshua, Floyd, Foreman, etc; The list goes on; These were criminals who were dealing with the police, not innocent black people;
The only reason why you haven't heard stories on white people who died from the police is because the media is obsessed with stories on african americans and this "systemic racism" that they face to get more clicks on their articles; I can list several white men who died from the police, yet the media dosen't display them; There isn't racial discrimination, and the police don't decide who lives or not;
@@falkyraizu3063 Your are a liar and spewing lies and false information. Black people are killed at a higher disproportionate rate by the police than white people. phys.org/news/2020-07-white-people-black-police.html
"The police don't decide who lives or not.." Um, yeah, who pulls the trigger?
@@hallothar6842 The police pulls the trigger on people who are a threat to their lives, such as violent criminals, armed felons, etc; Just like all democrats you are salty and butthurt over the truth; The link you sent isn't a credible source; I love how you call this "false information" yet fail to argue at a single point that I have made so far AND my examples; This clearly shows you are the uneducated one; Facts don't care about your feelings;
As soon as she started singing, I immediately got goosebumps

Sameeee
RESPECT!
Thanks for the respect.
Africans too friend. Though many forget that. Even after slavery ended in America, it didn't for many of those in Africa. But we're getting better now by God's grace.
I was visiting my son and his family as my daughter in law recoved from breast cancer. He said he wakes my granddaughter with this song. So I used it to wake her, and it plays in my head every day. What a wonderful song of Praise.
Can't stop listening to this song... it just motivate me to never give up
Me 2

This song makes me cry, coz i cannot imagine what our ancestors went through and what we are going through right now as black people worldwide. its heartwrenching
Honestly where I live, its not white people that are killing our country but our own leaders, our African leaders. The just don't care about us.
I cried too
This actually sounds like national anthem for me.
So beautiful, its more than a song. Its a message. Its one of the most moving things I have ever heard or seen.
Lindo amei
Get cotton bud dear...
Oh but it is! Actually, it's an international anthem!
FOR US 💞
My grandmother's name was Harriet... And was born in North Carolina. How ironic. What has been buried for far too long... Will be unearthed. And that which they tried to hide. Will be uncovered for all to see. And it will make history! Praise you Jesus! This victory is for you!!! While God says... LET MY PEOPLE GO!! 🔥❤️
And the Oscar for Best Original Song goes to...
Then she'll have an egot
Yeah I think she and this song can get the title.
Really sad and disheartening to see this kind of BIGOTRY coming from a black person. Have a blessed day
period.
