I was with sensei Pat a long time ago at the yoseikan budo aikido in Torrance California many years ago and wish to return but think I'm too old at 47 years old. Can I still learn and be productive at such age?
The Yoseikan Ju-Jutsu contains more free-style elements and can be more direct. It is also influenced by techniques from kickboxing, grappling and mma. Both the Aikido and Ju-Jutsu contain sutemi waza and many aiki-techniques. It is not possible to demonstrate the entire curriculum in a single demonstration, so each demo is only a brief selection.
This style of aikido is pre-war and was introduced in Europe in 1951 by Minoru Mochizuki. The postwar aikido is often referred to as modern aikido. It is therefore that I named it traditional
Looks good. Yeah mixture of aikiki and yoseikan techniques. Minoru studied both amongst other things. Our Senseii (unno) was Minoru's student and uke and he even changed techniques when he got to Australia to make things work. Great movement here and top quality ukes. Shame segal senseii is so old, he would have the perfect propent to bring aikido to MMA. I practise a number of styles and still love some of the direct techniques that Yoseikan has. For demos, flowing movement better
Yep, there are a number of techniques performed when Uke attacks with a mae geri or mawashi geri. I'll look out for a video in which this is demonstrated.
OK, so how would that style be able to defend from somebody attacking you in the street with boxing hands or throwing punches and kicks? I’m a little confused is this just for fun?
Wat ik het mooiste aan dit film vind is de slow motion Zo zouden er meer gepost moeten worden Je kan dan goed zien waar je mee bezig bent Als witte bander heb ik daar baat bij
traditions become less practical with a changing era. nobody is gonna attack you with a shuto anymore.Yoseikan budo or mochizuki sensei's art is 10 x more practical. In my opinion, the essence of traditional aikido died with O sensei. At the very least, minoru mochizuki learned from him and kano sensei, the most that he could pass on to further generations. He had knowledge from the best of both worlds. To answer your question ,the more graceful type(like in this video) is the traditional one.
This was beautiful! I was once a studier but lost in time. I enjoyed my time there and hope to return soon!

That is correct! Edgar Kruyning has been a direct student (uchi dechi) of Minoru Mochizuki and Yoshio Sugino.
Does it really matter if it pure Yoseikan or Traditional or some other variant? It was fluid and crisp. Great as a demonstartion.

No, it doesn't matter at all! I only tried to be specific and to avoid confusion about names and styles..
Proud te be one of them students

You do realize Edgar Kruyning was a direct student of Mochuzuki right?
Are there also kicking techniques in Yoseikan Aikido? I mean, that Uke attacks with kicks.
