I love your approach with the resin Mike - using it as a tool to combine some otherwise tricky pieces, but then spending so much time and love revealing that burl and those grains. It really does keep the wood as the star of the show
The first couple of times I saw slow-motion on this channel were instances where disaster struck: the piece broke, or came off the lathe, etc. So now when you go into slo-mo, my reaction is "Oh no! What's going to go wrong!" LOL Glad nothing did go wrong. Spectacular piece. I love how the grain seems to match going across the resin, so it almost looks like it was 1 piece of wood, instead of 3.
What an amazing contrast between your desire to emphasize the wood over the resin, and another wood turner I watch who emphasizes the resin. I love how wonderfully your piece turned out with that lovely wood.😊
Thanks Shelley, when you have wood as nice as this you need to show it off and not let the resin take anything away instead it needs to help promote the wood 😃
Lovely looking bowl Mike well done, going with the flow worked out fantastically. Nice to see you used the plug cutter tip i mentioned for getting out the broken screws.👏
Mike very nice bowl. I am glad you jeep the rim. It adds to the look of the piece. I do agree with the other people who would like to see the burl in the resin. Thanks for sharing your talents.
Beautiful! I'm glad you decided to keep the top lip on the bowl, I think it mirrors the shape of the foot nicely. I've never heard of Jarrah wood before so had no idea it would shine up to such a lovely deep red! Love the grain that showed up in the final polishing as well. The resin ties all the pieces together, I think it makes the wood look like one very varied burl!
As you were working I was thinking what a huge mess resin makes. It certainly ends up as a beautiful frame for that wood, though! Thanks for putting up with the cleaning in order to make us such a lovely piece of art ❤️
Hello Mike. Well, that little “adventure” was well worth the final result. The bowl turned out so beautifully - a proper treasure for the future. I do like the fact you are happy to experiment and think outside the normal wood turning box, which makes what you produce so interesting and also a pleasure to watch as it develops and unfolds. As always, I am already looking forward to what you have planned for your next “experiment” and am sure it will be equally as delightful as this one. Have a great week.
Absolutely stunning work Mike, I think that may be my favorite so far. The accent ring is perfect. I yelled at my screen "Noooooo" when you said you were going to cut it off. I've never worked with Jarrah, now I have to try and find some. Thank you for sharing this beauty, hope you have a great day!
Thanks Scott, so glad I did not cut it off now lol, I'm pretty happy with the way this came out. Jarrah is a nice wood, but there are a lot of holes and splits in it so take care, all the best Mike 😃
Another absolutely stunning piece. The combination with the resin is so beautiful, these two materials go so well together and your colour choice is great. 👍👏👏
Another great bowl, and another idea I will be stealing. It just shows that it is always good to keep those scraps of wood left over . keep doing what you're doing there is nobody out there who explains step by step how to become a good Turner.
Beautiful idea to use resin, but still feature the wood in the design. You did have me yelling Noooo! When deciding to keep the lip, because I was wanting to see the natural wood drop into the center...but perhaps the rim gives it a more human touch. It is these choices, along with the final result that make it so much fun to watch!😊
Hi Mike, another stunning piece. The Jarrah Burl did seem hard but what a marvellous finish with the resin also. Good choice leaving the lip it makes it stand out more adding to the finished bowl. Thanks for the video looking forward to the next one. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Mike! You are quite a creative genius! I just love everything about this bowl, and your journey getting there. One of the surprises was that you were able to pour the 80 minute pot time in 75 minutes! In that volume, I thought it would set off in the cups. Whew! Great job as always 😊 Joe CA
My friend lives on a property with hundreds of Jarrah and red gum trees. He turns bowls from one piece of jarrah but the tree had a borer eat into it when alive so the wood has amazing patterns from the borers. I wish YT allowed posting pics bc it’s so beautiful. Love this bowl and how it turned out.
I’ve always liked jarrah, coming from Australia, and the many things it’s used for here always look really nice.. However, you have definitely taken it to the next level Mike. Absolutely beautiful bowl!!! Again!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us again.
This is a beautiful piece Mike, and one of my favorites. The grain and color of the burl is gorgeous, and contrasts nicely with the resin. The lip at the top did add some interest, and the overall shape of the bowl is really nice. It's always an interesting journey watching you create these, and this turned out beautifully.
Again, it's a really nice bowl. I never tried resin, but after watching another one of your resin videos, I am tempted to try, but I am new to turning and learning lots by watching your videos. So thank you.
Thanks Paul, it's a lot of fun turning resin and not as hard as you think. Hod look with your turning journey and if you need any help just get in touch. 😃
Absolutely gorgeous! I love resin projects. I think it adds interesting contrast, and it's reassuring to know the piece is rock solid for turning and not going to fall apart.
Hello Mike. I do like these “experiments” you have carried out. Both pieces have turned out beautifully. The colours are lovely. Keep on pushing the boundaries. The adventure and journey will be riveting! Have a great week.
What a beautiful wood jerrah. Had never seen it.. and the combination with those colors of resin, just perfect.. it let the wood be the feature instead of the resin.. very good call 💪🥰
Love it! One of my favorites I think. Simple design combined with beautiful wood lets each of the elements shine through. Definitely a case where “the sum is greater than individual parts”! Nice job…again!
This is a truly beautiful bowl Mike. We are all allowed to have little hiccups from time to time Not having all three pieces of Jarrah level at the base has not had ANY adverse affect on the final outcome, in fact it may well have had a positive influence on the finished piece, it often happens this way when one is dealing with a piece of Art. Jarrah is an extremely nice Australian wood but the trees are now an endangered species. Love you work mate, Cheers, Don from South Australia.
Another great piece. I love it when you have an idea in your head as to what you want to do and the wood has other ideas. That’s the beauty of wood turning it is always a bit of a surprise. I want to use resin. One day!
Thank you very much Stephen, try it, buy a small amount get a few scraps of wood and shove them all in a plastic container. Turning it is the easy part 😀
That really is a fantastic creation and I don’t know why but at one point I thought I’d saw daylight through the centre of the bowl and I for a moment I thought you were going to go through it but then you turned it to its side and I could see how thick it was and substantial and overall beautiful piece of wood turning :-)
What an amazing wood Jarrah is, and the bowl you've turned is gorgeous; you are a talented family, its funny that i commented on your descriptive writing last week, and that this week you are letting us know of your brother's success on having a book published 😃, have a super week!
Beautiful bowl, I do like the lip you left for definition. The composition is amazing though with the burl live edge turned in. Was like watching you turn a geode. Definitely deserved the hi gloss finish.
Hi Mike, I have no experience with any kind of crafting. Anyway I love it to look over your shoulder and see how you transform a pice of wood and respect the beauty of it.
Mike, the jarrah looks to be a very dense wood but it turns out quite beautiful once it’s sanded and polished. You did an outstanding job with the pieces. The finished bowl is magnificent, it looks a bit like a flying saucer.👽
I would love to see a similar construction with a clearer resin so one can see a 3D view inside the bowl of the burl spikey bits
I was thinking the same thing, although I also really, really like how this looks!
Me too
@lornacy me too! 🙃
Brilliant work. Clear resin possibly even more striking one feels. Chris
Thanks Tony, and by the looks of it, it's something I will have to try 😀
I love your approach with the resin Mike - using it as a tool to combine some otherwise tricky pieces, but then spending so much time and love revealing that burl and those grains. It really does keep the wood as the star of the show
Thanks Lois, like everything else in my shop, resin is just a tool to get the most out of the wood 😃
The first couple of times I saw slow-motion on this channel were instances where disaster struck: the piece broke, or came off the lathe, etc.
So now when you go into slo-mo, my reaction is "Oh no! What's going to go wrong!" LOL
Glad nothing did go wrong. Spectacular piece. I love how the grain seems to match going across the resin, so it almost looks like it was 1 piece of wood, instead of 3.
Thanks so much that is what I was hoping for with the 3 pieces. I have had a few people start to worry when it went into slomo lol, sorry about that 😃
Truly this piece shows that you are not just a wood worker but an artist. I do so love seeing you work out how to make the wood shine.
Thanks Nikkie, I really appreciate that 😀
What an amazing contrast between your desire to emphasize the wood over the resin, and another wood turner I watch who emphasizes the resin. I love how wonderfully your piece turned out with that lovely wood.😊
Thanks Shelley, when you have wood as nice as this you need to show it off and not let the resin take anything away instead it needs to help promote the wood 😃
This bowl turned out real good.
Thanks so much 😃
Lovely piece, Mike. The revelation of the bold gold and black colours at the end of the first sanding was fantastic.
Thanks so much Ben 😀
Another example of a fertile imagination. Very nice indeed. I think the colour of the wood matched with resin gives it its presence. Nice one.
Thank you very much Peter 😀
I’m usually not a fan of resin bowls but this one really caught my eye! The jarrah is beautiful
Thank you so much Riley, used in he right way resin can be very beautiful 😃
Best use of nepotism I've seen in some time. Love the finish on the burl
Thanks Eric, very proud of my big brother 😊
I hate it when screwup’s turn out so beautiful!🤪 I love the shape! Thanks Mike!
Haha thanks Brenda, I know just what you mean 😂😛
nice to see you back after the big move, glad all is well
Been back a while but it is great to be all settled in 😃
The jarrah wood is beautiful and the added colors in the resin just highlight the wood perfectly. Nice job.
Thank you so much Ronald😀
Lovely looking bowl Mike well done, going with the flow worked out fantastically. Nice to see you used the plug cutter tip i mentioned for getting out the broken screws.👏
Thanks and yes I did, makes the job so much easier 😊
Beautiful work Mike loving the jarrah ,I’ve used it rock hard stuff but worth it well done ,colours are great 🎉❤
Thanks Peter, the wood is certainly hard lol 😀
it has a Mid-Century-Modern feel, I like it
Thanks Kathy, I agree, this is just about my favourite shape to turn 😀
that turned out so beautiful, absolute love that you used rest pieces of wood to make it.
Thanks, it seemed to make a lot of sense to do it this way 😀
Love how it turned out. The shape goes with your brother's book. 👏👏
Haha thanks so much! 😊
Beautiful. Love the wood grain.
Thank you very much! 😃
What a great way to use some cutoffs! I really like the choice of the dark epoxy so that the wood is the star of the show.
Thanks Jeremiah, it really is nice 🙂
Mike very nice bowl. I am glad you jeep the rim. It adds to the look of the piece. I do agree with the other people who would like to see the burl in the resin. Thanks for sharing your talents.
Thanks Bryce, when I get more burl with a nicer edge I'll do it 😃
Good design choices to bring out the wonderful burl figure.
Thanks! 😀
Oh wow, I have a new favourite 😍 it's just wonderful. Your are such a talented guy!
Thanks! I think this makes it into my top 5, I do love this shape 😀
Thanks Susan, it's not the easiest wood to work with (lots of cracks) but it's worth it 😃
A lengthy detailed project that has produced a unique and beautiful art piece. Gosh I hope I win!
Thanks Eric 😀
Very nice bowl Mike. Combining the 3 pieces with the resin and wittling the block down to a beautiful bowl is very creative. 👍Thank you for sharing!
Thank you very much!☺️
The color and the grain pattern is fantastic. The black and gold epoxy makes the burl wood look like continents flowing in a black ocean.
Thanks so much Robert! 😃
Pilot holes and a little wax on the threads of the screws would save you some headaches. Great looking bowl, Mike.
haha I know lol 😃
As you were working I was thinking what a huge mess resin makes. It certainly ends up as a beautiful frame for that wood, though! Thanks for putting up with the cleaning in order to make us such a lovely piece of art ❤️
Thank you very much and you are right, it get's everywhere and wraps around everything, cleaning up generally takes twice as long but it's worth it 😀
Probably one of the top ones so far - and as others below have said, clear resin could be a good experiment. As ever, great to watch. Thanks Mike.
Thank you very much Shaun 😊
Thanks Angela, I do like the way this one came out, all the best and I hope you have a great week as well 😃
Awesome bowl! A beautiful modern design to go with a futuristic novel.
Thanks Charmaine 😃
Absolutely stunning work Mike, I think that may be my favorite so far. The accent ring is perfect. I yelled at my screen "Noooooo" when you said you were going to cut it off. I've never worked with Jarrah, now I have to try and find some. Thank you for sharing this beauty, hope you have a great day!
Thanks Scott, so glad I did not cut it off now lol, I'm pretty happy with the way this came out. Jarrah is a nice wood, but there are a lot of holes and splits in it so take care, all the best Mike 😃
I. Love. This bowl! Love the texture. Love the colors. Just plain love it!
Haha thanks Barbara 😁
Another absolutely stunning piece. The combination with the resin is so beautiful, these two materials go so well together and your colour choice is great. 👍👏👏
Thanks so much Petra 😀
Beautiful - i really like the way you approach adversity, finding your way through to a new version as presented by the material. Thank you 😊
Thanks Rupert, so glad you enjoyed it 😃
That's a good job. I'm glad you left the little rim because it adds an interesting element.
Best Wishes, Brendan.
Thanks, you too Brendan 😃
Another great bowl, and another idea I will be stealing. It just shows that it is always good to keep those scraps of wood left over . keep doing what you're doing there is nobody out there who explains step by step how to become a good Turner.
Thanks so much John, that really means a lot to me 😀
Beautiful idea to use resin, but still feature the wood in the design. You did have me yelling Noooo! It is these choices, along with the final result that make it so much fun to watch!😊
@@pennyperry9561 Haha thanks, I nearly took it off it was a 50 50 decision
Look at that guy running the bandsaw like an old pro. 😉 very nice work, Mike.
Haha thanks Loran, I'm getting better 😂
Really lovely piece. Really glad you kept that little rim on the top, good call.
Thank you! Cheers! ☺️
Absolutely gorgeous bowl. I agree with others, you need to do another piece with clear resin, just to see the difference 😊
Thanks Luann, I will give it some thought 😀
Very impressive bowl, and your brother sounds like he's talented too.
Thanks Mark, he is very gifted artistically and academically, he has a PHd in mathematics!
Hi Mike, another stunning piece. The Jarrah Burl did seem hard but what a marvellous finish with the resin also. Good choice leaving the lip it makes it stand out more adding to the finished bowl. Thanks for the video looking forward to the next one. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you so much Roy, no idea yet whet the next one will be 😀
An excellent result. Great colours and wonderful shape, from beautiful pieces of wood. Thank you, Mike.
Thanks! Glad you like it! 😀
Mike! You are quite a creative genius! I just love everything about this bowl, and your journey getting there. One of the surprises was that you were able to pour the 80 minute pot time in 75 minutes! In that volume, I thought it would set off in the cups. Whew! Great job as always 😊 Joe CA
Thanks Joe, the resin is very slow to cure which is why I could leave it so long without any worry 😀
Yeah using your new addition to your workshop to help create a very beautiful piece of art❤
Thanks so much Mary, it comes in so handy 😊
My friend lives on a property with hundreds of Jarrah and red gum trees. He turns bowls from one piece of jarrah but the tree had a borer eat into it when alive so the wood has amazing patterns from the borers. I wish YT allowed posting pics bc it’s so beautiful. Thanks, I would love to see it. If you don't mind you can email to me (mike@mikeholton.net)
I’ve always liked jarrah, coming from Australia, and the many things it’s used for here always look really nice..
However, you have definitely taken it to the next level Mike.
Absolutely beautiful bowl!!!
Again!!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us again.
Thanks so much Robin, really appreciate it 😃
This is a beautiful piece Mike, and one of my favorites. The grain and color of the burl is gorgeous, and contrasts nicely with the resin. The lip at the top did add some interest, and the overall shape of the bowl is really nice. It's always an interesting journey watching you create these, and this turned out beautifully.
Thanks so much my friend 😃
I like the final shape and the colours are striking. Thank you for sharing Mike.
Glad you enjoyed it Vincent 😃
VERY nice! Love the resin accent. It sets off the wood perfectly,
Thank you very much Geoffrey 😀
Beautiful Jarrah Burl, well worth the effort despite being so hard, love the colour too.
Many thanks! Pretty happy with this one 😀
So beautiful Mike!
I think I’m now accustomed to your palette choices, I called blue and gold as soon as you mentioned resin 😁
Haha you know me so well Louis, may have to throw in a curve ball 😁
I love the discus shaped pieces, yet another fantastic piece.
Many thanks Simon, must admit, this is my favourite style, I may just keep this one for myself 😃

I totally agree! Love this one 😀
This is my favorite thing you’ve made so far. Absolutely gorgeous.
Wow, thank you! 😀
Hello Mike. I do like these “experiments” you have carried out. Both pieces have turned out beautifully. The colours are lovely. Keep on pushing the boundaries. The adventure and journey will be riveting! Have a great week.
Thanks so much Angela, I will always do my best 😀
Interesting project. I can never imagine the end result until you have finished it.
Thanks, all the best, Mike 😃
What a beautiful wood jerrah. Had never seen it.. and the combination with those colors of resin, just perfect.. it let the wood be the feature instead of the resin.. very good call 💪🥰
Thanks Wendy, it is quite a hard wood but really beautiful colour 😀
What a stunning piece, love the grain on this wood. Great craftsmanship Mike!
Thanks so much Ray 😃
Nicely done. I like how you handled all the little accidents to make a great piece.
Thanks Gary, these accidents are all part of life 😃
Another beautiful turn! I was back and forth with you about that lip, but I think you made the right choice.
I think so too! It was a close call though lol 😀
What a pretty design, the grain in the wood is amazing!
Thank you! Cheers Deborah 😀
That might be your most beautiful work to date!
Thanks Dolores 😀
A great bowl and really good to see how you creatively manage the little issues that seem to torment all woodturners
Thank you very much Mark, I have these problems the same as everyone else 😃
Love it! One of my favorites I think. Simple design combined with beautiful wood lets each of the elements shine through. Definitely a case where “the sum is greater than individual parts”! Nice job…again!
Thank you very much Howard 🙂
This is a truly beautiful bowl Mike. Jarrah is an extremely nice Australian wood but the trees are now an endangered species. Love you work mate, Cheers, Don from South Australia.
Thanks Don, if I had not had the mishap I was intending to make something completely different so I'm happy it happened 😀
Beautiful bowl Mike! Great contrast in colors using epoxy. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much 😀
I’ve never seen anyone put the outer pieces inward! Very cool!
Thanks 😃
Wow. Absolutely the right colour resin :)
Thanks so much 😊
Another great piece.
Beautiful!! The inside of the bowl is amazing!
Thank you Lisa 😊
That really is a fantastic creation and I don’t know why but at one point I thought I’d saw daylight through the centre of the bowl and I for a moment I thought you were going to go through it but then you turned it to its side and I could see how thick it was and substantial and overall beautiful piece of wood turning :-)
Thanks so much Martin 😀
What an amazing wood Jarrah is, and the bowl you've turned is gorgeous; you are a talented family, its funny that i commented on your descriptive writing last week, and that this week you are letting us know of your brother's success on having a book published 😃, have a super week!
Thank you so much, my brother is so much smarter than me, me qualified for Mensa when he was 12 😀
Mike you have quite a creative mind. The bowl is lovely and quite a nice show piece. Great work. 😊❤
Thanks Deborah, that is very nice of you to say, I do try 😀
Beautiful bowl, I do like the lip you left for definition. The composition is amazing though with the burl live edge turned in. Was like watching you turn a geode. Definitely deserved the hi gloss finish.
Thank you so much! I wonder if I can turn a geode lol 😂
Thank you, my wife would really like to have this.
No worries ☺️
This project is so original, creative, and beautiful. Very well done sir.
Thank you very much Mike 😃
Another great piece Mike.
Excellent job.
Thanks again
Thanks Barry, and thanks for watching 😀
I love Jarrah, i'm surrounded by Jarrah trees, so love to see works of art made out of it. Cheers
Thanks Darryl 😁
Oh my goodness you are awesome! I love this beautiful bowl art! Wow
Thanks so much Beth, you are so kind 😀
Stunning design, Mike! Love that colour.
Thanks so much my friend 😀
Great looking bowl. Love the resin color choices.
Thank you! Cheers! 😃
Amazing work mate!!!
Thanks so much Jamie 😀
Lovely bowl Mike the finished bowl i thught looked like a discus, good choice with the lip and a nice shinny finish.
Glad you enjoyed it Dougie 😁
Absolutely fabulous. I'm on my way out to my shop to see what I can piece together.
Have fun and let me know what you did 😀
Beautiful work Mike. I also think that a clear or light opaque wound look great as well as the dark colours you used.
Thank you! If the edge on one of the burls was better I would have made it more transparent 😃
Stunning bowl, Mike. Well done.
Thank you so much 😀
Another awesome project! New shop seems to suit your creative juices!
Thanks Larry, I'm really enjoying the space 😀
Another beautiful piece of art. Well done. I have also downloaded your brothers book to my Kindle.
Thanks so much Dana, really appreciate it 😀
That is a beautiful lovely grain . Love the plug.
Lots of nature left in your bowl 🥣
Did you get the drone with the camera???
Not yet Paul, will be in about a month. They usually have a few deals on around then.
Hi Mike, I have no experience with any kind of crafting. Anyway I love it to look over your shoulder and see how you transform a pice of wood and respect the beauty of it.
Thanks Sabina, you are more than welcome to join me any time you like 😀
Thank you, looking forward to your next video's
Thanks Paul 😃
Very nice piece, stunning actually. I love doing hollow forms but I’ve never done anything quite as good as that. Thanks for the videos Mike.
You're very welcome John 🙂
Beautiful wood makes a beautiful bowl. Well done my freind....
Thanks so much 😀
That's a beauty Mike nicely done as always 👍
Glad you like it Will and thanks so much for watching 😃
Very tactile and pleasing
Thanks Ruth, I do love this one 😃
Mike, the jarrah looks to be a very dense wood but it turns out quite beautiful once it’s sanded and polished. You did an outstanding job with the pieces. The finished bowl is magnificent, it looks a bit like a flying saucer.👽
Haha thanks my friend 😁
This bowl is absolutely gorgeous. I love the rich looking colors.
Thank you so much! 😀
