Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 бер 2024
- World's First? I think so but please tell me if I'm wrong. This week we are repurposing a halo/ring light that was being thrown away. We combine it with a beautiful sapele wood blank and epoxy resin and turn it into the first of it's kind.

I’ll be honest Mike, I didn’t think this would work practically or aesthetically. Not only was I 100% wrong it actually looks amazing. Keep on inspiring us.
Thanks Mark, I will do my best 😀
I could watch your videos all day. Not only are you supremely skilled, your voice is very calming
Thanks so much 😃
Every time we watch you work the more impressed we are by your creativity and skills. This is the neatest bowl project! Well done!
Wow, thank you! 😀
wow you got the mind of a mathematician and the hands of a surgeon loll like always it is awesome
😊 thank you, although I don't think you would like me operating on you lol
I never get tired of the shimmer in the wood grain...so beautiful! 😍
Thanks Kate, the sapele wood never lets you down 😀
Probably the most beautiful upcycling I have ever seen!
Wow thanks so much Judith 😍
What a concept! I have watched people make lamps and such, but never a magnificent bowl like that with lighting. Beautiful.
Thank you very much!
Loved this project! I think you've found the new theme for the channel: "What things can i find lying around my house that i can put into an inlay?"
Great idea, I have so many things lol 😀
@@MikeHolton Especially after having just moved!
I love this one! You should save it and give it back to your daughter on some sort of special occasion for her. It's really neat. Beautiful work!
Not a bad idea, I'll let her get out her adolescent messy faze first lol 😀
That epoxy reminds me of a galaxy, and the lights are bigger stars. Very cool experiment.
Thanks so much Jordan 😁
You're such a wonderful teacher. As a retired teacher myself, I certainly appreciate the time you give to explain what you're doing. Do you come from a teaching family? Another quality piece we'd all be proud to display...and it's fun! What a clever idea!! 😊
You are so welcome Cynthia. It may not surprise you that day job is as a university lecturer, been teaching there for 22 years 😃
Wow! What a great idea! And it turned out so beautifully!
Thanks Lisa 😀
What a great way to reuse something that was going to be thrown away.
Thanks Jen 😃
A truly unique idea Mike. Hope your LEDs live forever.
Haha me too 😊
Nice job and another one onto my list of, " I'll do one of these one day"
Haha I have a big list of those as well 😀
What an idea 😮😂❤🎉,love it 🎉❤
thanks Peter 😃
Ah! That's quite a piece. It's another real, but unique beauty. Good job!
Thanks so much my friend 😃
I love this one so much! The simple shape shows off the chatoyancy, the resin color complements the wood color, AND you reused something that was going to be thrown out to very good effect. Win, win, win.
Thank you so much Susan 😀
Your imagination knows no bounds! Great art piece 😊!
Thank you so much 😀
Creative, innovative, out-of-the-box thinking, and perfectly executed. Well done, Sir!
Thanks so much 😃
Absolutely brilliant design! Really well planned and executed. I enjoyed this video very much.
Thank you very much Rachel 😃
That really turned out 10x better than I imagined. Great job Mike! 😊
Thank you! Cheers Kirby 🙂
I love your very British excitement on this one - understated yet perceivable!
Haha I'm just a big kid at heart 😃
I really liked how it turned out. The colors of the wood and resin matched well. I like the fact that you keep mixing it up. Some turners never get out of their comfort zone.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Barry, I prefer to keep learning and the best way to do that is to try new things even if it fails you still learn.
I agree! The resin color is perfect.
There is so much joy in making something new out of something that would otherwise have been thrown away :-)
You are so right 😃
Your imagination knows no bounds. A halo light that could have been in a box with other items in the loft, put to use making a beautiful light bowl. Congratulations Mike
Thanks my friend and yes you are so right, we gave it a new life 😀
Very creative remake! Love the idea of a bowl with a light to catch keys etc, great for a quiet night entrance.
Thanks Kathryn, just what I was thinking 😃
Wow!! It’s a party bowl!! Looks great
Haha thanks Bill 😃
Mike the Magician, bloody brilliant
Haha thanks Robert 😃
This is by far the coolest woodturning project I have seen. Great work!
Thanks so much Max 😃
This is my favorite of your projects so far. Amazing results. I love how the resin looks like a sparkling galactic ring with stars inside.
Thank you so much!😀
Very beautiful. Nice reuse of your daughters halo light.
Thank you so much 😊
Hi Mike. Very impressive and inspiring. You snuck in the color changing lights at the end. That's so cool. I was a bit worried when you went to turn it (after installing the light ring) to clean it up and thought "what about the wire? Is it going to be flopping around?" Then realized that of course you would tape it down. I love the whole project. Maybe instead of giving it away you should give it to your daughter as a lesson in re-purposing rather then just throwing things away. I just love it. How very cool. Take care and keep turning. Bill Riley.
Thanks Bill, I do like this one and yes the cable was wrapped round the chuck and taped very well 😃
Very impressive, I'm glad that you're back doing what you love.
Hey, thanks, me too 😀
I love the table! It is nice to listen as you talk through your ideas.
Thanks so much Lucy 😃
Lovely.
Thanks Paul 😀
Very nice looking piece. Thank you. You’re daughter is going to want her light back!
Haha thanks Tom and it's too late now 😂
So clever. Brilliant way to use / upcycle some old L.E.D. lights.
Thanks Jonathan 😀
Wow, Wow, WOW!!!!!
haha thanks Dianne 😀
A realy beautifull Holdall, i am glad you are happy in your new Workshop.
Thank you very much! 😀
What a unique piece and the wood is beautiful. I can imagine this as a night light planted with a shallow bowl of succulents.
That is a beautiful idea! 😃
Thanks for showing this beautiful bowl!
You're welcome Susana 😃
Was I the only one that thought at one point.. That this was going to be a CLOCK ???
Awesome job Mike... I wouldn't mind you doing this again but making it into a clock.🤔🤔
A clock is a great idea but I would need to find a way to operate it with a battery 😃
My daughter needs that to match the lighting in her bedroom. I showed her the video and she loves it. (It looks purple, of course she loves it 😂)
Great job!👍👍👍
Haha thanks Cody 😃
Love the way that this bowl came out. That inlay is gorgeous! Great job as always Mike!
Thank you! Cheers William 😃
Yet another great project with numerous uses.
Thanks! 😀
Mike you have once again moved the mark up even higher. Very nice work the wood look great. Adding the resin just took it up, but the light took it up in to stratosphere. Keep taking it up higher. Thanks.
I'll keep trying 😀
That is perhaps the most beautiful bowl I’ve seen on any woodturning video. I absolutely LOVE it! The lights idea is so clever and really adds a special flair to the design. The wood is spectacular!
Wow thanks so much Beverly
Beauty of a bowl and love the lights!
Thanks so much Linda 😃
I was amazed at the speed you can sand and apply finishes. Kidding aside, I hope you sign your work. What you do is art.
Thanks Charles, I have a sticker I put on but I may start signing under it 😀
A great bowl, Mike...always a buzz when somthing can be reused!
I know Mark, I hate throwing things away 😃
Clever & creative.
Thanks Laurel 😀
Gorgeous bowl, but with the lights it takes it to another level very classy and well designed.
Thank you very much John 🙂
Wow! I was worried about how the light was going to turn out and it is wonderful! Thanks for sharing such creativity!!!
Thanks so much Maria 😃
Wonderful work
Hi Paul, so great to hear from you and many thanks. Take a look at my latest one, figured maple, it is right up your street, all the best Mike
@MikeHolton have looked at them all. I've been very busy. Try to be honest and good.
@@nicholasscott3089 Always my friend
That's an awesome idea, and I like the color choice.
Sawdust, shellac, and alcohol makes an excellent fast drying wood filler as well.
Thanks for that tip, I'll give it a go 😀
That looks amazing, what a good idea. The acoustic panels make all the difference, the sound is great.
Thanks so much 😊
Gorgeous!
Just gorgeous!!
Thank you! 😊
That bowl is absolutely gorgeous!🥰 I love the colours in the wood... and the lights are a bonus. 🤩
Thanks so much 😀
What a beautiful and unique bowl. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Cheers Joyce
What a chique idea and well executed too! ❤
Thanks Edith 😃
Absolutely brilliant! Sir, you are a man of many talents! Thank you sharing them with the rest of us!
You're more than welcome Catherine and thanks 😃
Mike, you have such a creative mind. Keep up the great work and I’ll keep watching. 😊❤
Thanks Deborah, I will always do my best 😀
Fabulous Mike, expect the orders to come flooding in.❤
Haha I need to have this on test for a while lol 😀
What a beautiful idea, turned out so pretty 😊
Thank you Nana 😊
Love the color of the resin, super good looking
Thanks Phil 😀
What a great design. You could venture into the whole lighting market with your variations of design and woods. Wall lights, ceilings nightlights etc...nice one Mike.👍👍
That would be cool Pete, I may look into it 😀
Ultimate recycling! Superb result, well done.
Thanks so much 😀
really neat night light, your daughter may want it back!
Haha I've told her she can't have it lol 😃
What a beautiful piece. Love the inlay.
Thank you! Cheers Jean 😀
Great touch by adding the lights.... Great job Mike.... Love the color contrast
Thanks so much Dale 😃
That inlaid light bowl would make an interesting center piece...a sculpture, spotted plant, or even a bowl of snacks.💚🤗
That would be cool! 😊
Snack bowl for in the cinema 😂
A stunningly beautiful piece. Amazing work once again.
Thank you so much Simon 😀
Your idea in your head turned out absolutely beautiful ❤ The shift in the Chameleon powder is stunning! A very lovely catch-all bowl.
Thank you so much Mary 😃
It’s amazing! What a treat!
Thanks Susannah 😀
Great idea Mike. I like the finish. Great to see you having fun on the lathe again.
Thanks Stuart, it's great the be back 😃
Oh, what a lovely wood species you chose and the end result is gorgeous! Excellent work, Mike! 👍
Thank you so much Tom 😀
Hello Mike. I think this one is absolutely outstanding! What a great idea, to combine a light source with beautiful wood - just so we can see it better (?). So clever! I really did enjoy watching this one. 👍
Thanks Angela, I'm just happy it worked lol 😀
So many good things to say about this one, Mike. Firstly, its always nice to see something that is working but no longer wanted get utilized for something new, rather than just tossed in the bin - Thanks for giving that light a new life and saving it from the landfill!. Nice clean soldering job in the LED ring, and a really pretty color in the resin. Very classy shape to the whole bowl - really a fantastic piece all the way around. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Ronnie, I hate throwing things away and love being able to give something so ordinary a new life 😁
Gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
What a wonderful idea to integrate that in a bowl.. love the end result 🥰..
Thanks so much Wendy! 😊
Absolutely brilliant 👏.
Thanks Colin 😀
Amazing! You have a great ability to sense which colors will work together, not to mention the idea of putting that halo light around a bowl. I love watching you create, and you are quite an inspiration. Looking forward to the improvements you make in the new shop, as well as how the new location inspires you.
Thanks so much, I loved making this and so glad it worked 😀
Sapele always looks terrific. Nice chatoyence.
I love the project. Very well done. I was a bit nervous when you were soldering the wires. A potential opportunity for "Murphy" to pay a visit, but glad he was too busy elsewhere.
Good idea to seal the wood. I failed to seal an epoxy resin inlay in a mahogany bowl. The resin went into the pores and made the outside of the bowl dark which meant the piece was ruined. Lesson learned the hard way.
You were saving the LED light in this case. For others wanting to try this interesting idea, try looking for an LED ring where the LED's can be changed to different colours. Then just use white resin to diffuse the light and the LED to get a desired colour.
Dave.
Thanks David, that is a great idea!! I may look for another. All the best, Mike
Great use of the ring light. I'd been thinking in my head how to get lights into an inlay like that but this never occurred to me. Very cool indeed.
Thanks Tim 😄
This is a beautiful piece. Another one I just have to have. Fantastic job, Mike
Glad you like it! 😃
Terrific Idea. Hopefully casting the LED system into silica will make the light fixture work for much longer. ❤
Fingers crossed, I'll let you know 😀
Another great job
Thank you! Cheers Andy
Nice work Mike. It’s great when an idea becomes reality 👍
Thanks Chris, it's a great feeling 😀
That's really nice. 💙💙💙💙💙
Thank you! Cheers Karen 😁
Brilliant idea and works perfectly nice project and great use of something that no longer has a use.
Thank you very much! 😀
Glad Hooch made it to the new shop. Have to watch this later, doing my taxes now, aloha.
Not fun, I'll have to start doing mine in a few weeks.
Very Nice.. I am in my research phase in Woodturning. I truly enjoy watching your videos.
Thanks Tom, I did so much research before I started as well, certainly helped me a lot! 😀
Excellent! One of the best uses I’ve seen for those ring lights. The bowl is lovely. Such a great job of turning.
Thank you very much Doug 😀
I liked this project!
Thanks ken, me too 😀
Love this. Well done.
Thank you! Cheers Thomas ☺️
the color even without the leds on is fantastic looks like space pics
Thanks! 😃
How stunning and different. Love it Mike.
