- We had a dog at a party and it was highly intelligent. It can OPEN DOORS!
Allegedly this dog can work a sliding glass door! He would move the board, then unlock and open the sliding glass door. I reviewed 8 hours of home movies and didn't find the footage. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
I'm extremely annoyed by my dog opening the doors. WE DID NOT TEACH HIM TO DO IT.

My dog taught himself how to open the door to get inside. When no one was home it would stay open for hours so I had to teach him how to shut the door too&:

My dog can get in and out of these type of door handles pretty easy, he even opens his storage containers that has his food in it. He is pretty resourceful, I think because he is deaf that he developed his other senses and is more of a thinker since sounds don't distract him.

I am convinced that dogs are going to take over the planet with the exception of those awesome labradors. My mother had a brick wall and wrought iron gate put up on the east side of her house; so that she could let her Great Dane out to play in the yard just by opening the door. The gate had a latch similar to some auto gear shifts in that you had to move the latch outside of its notch and then pull it down to unlatch the gate like moving the gear shift in a car out of the “park” position, then moving it to whatever gear you wanted to put it in.. One day, right after putting “Max” in the backyard, we looked out the window of the study and saw Max coming into the front yard. Mother blamed me for not making sure the gate was latched before putting Max in the backyard. I knew that I had not done that because I knew trying to catch Max, once he was out, was similar to the “calf rope” in a rodeo. I succeeded catching him this time and put him back into the yard after double-checking the gate latch. He again showed up in the front yard; therefore, when I put him back into the gated backyard, I hid around the corner so that I could see what he was doing. I watched him use his paw to take the latch out of its “park” position and then move it down. Also, studies show that dog owners spend about 1 billion dollars on pet snacks, pet toys, etc., per year and read “Inside of a Dog, What Dogs See, Smell And Know,” by Alexandra Horowitz (a best-seller on the New York Times book list); and, you will be amazed. All they lack is an opposable thumb before they take over; and, my golden/labrador mix, by using her front paw as a hand since she was a puppy, has practically developed one. It’s scary; so, remember to be good to your dog otherwise, when they do gain control,” you will be in the same position as the aristocracy found themselves after the French Revolution.
If dogs take over the world I will be happy to find me a dog master to chill with. I have pretty good karma and reputation with dogs.

My smaller dog knows how to open a door, but he can’t. He’s too short to get a grip on it, but will jump up to it, trying to open it.

Learning how a door handle works is a fairly common skill among dogs.
My dog can even open it from the opposite way which is a little more difficult because he can't just push the door open,LOL he has to flick the door handle then use his nose to wedge in between the door and frame,but he can eventually get it
Hell even round door knobs he has managed to open. He has also locked me out a few times.

@@georgelahmon4539 yeah my dog use to open it from the inside too. She’d jump up, rest her paws on the handle and then walk backward. We had to lock the front door or else she’d get out when we left
That's why you should buy door knobs instead of door handles if you got a dog like this.

My doberman pinscher is 3.5 months and can open doors just from observing. She can also do the hard level 3 to 4 puzzles.
My 1 1/2 year old Shar Pei just started escaping from closed rooms until I realized he had taught himself to open doors. I am amazed as I didn't teach him this. That's why I'm here. My question is how did they learn and what else might they know how to do?

My dog knows how to do the same thing with the same exact door. He taught himself how to open it inward. And taught himself (and I helped with this one, just showed him how to open it outward by me demonstrating it , while I saw him trying to do it , and telling him to back up/walk backwards when he was opening it) how to open the doors outward. But sadly I only got videos of him opening it inward. Sadly he pasted away too soon on Sunday the 21'st of this month (August). He was the most amazing and special dog ! He watches tv with us like two broke girls , spongebob, paw patrol and many other tv shows. Also he knows how to cover himself up either like a burrito or any other way . He did so many amazing things ! He was just so loving you would walk out of the room for 5 seconds , a minute , an hour and he would get so excited and give you kisses and bunch more things when you walked back in the room or when he hears/smells you coming back in the room. That dog seemed a bit slow.
My dog taught himself and can now open all doors within a half second: door knobs if they are loose, doors with handles, sliding screen doors, and screen doors with push knobs.
My dog's vocab is also uncanny. He picks up on words during normal conversations and then knows what comes next.
I realized this when I said "park" one day. He went nuts until we went. I now have to watch what I say, lol.
