      Had a Dodge Stealth RT TT(same thing as the VR4). Drove it like 4 times back and forth from Illinois to North Carolina, never let me down.... sadly I traded it for a clk55 AMG...

      Brandon Gilmore what year clk55? I cross shopped my vr4 with that car! I love clk55s, but felt like the VR4 was faster from a dig and more unique, plus the lack of a manual transmission put me off the amg. I also drove some e55s, awesome cars, highway monsters.

      Uzeyr Hassan there was an ad that dodge put out in the early 90s stating that the tt stealth was faster to 60mph than the testarossa, which is actually true - dodge stated a 0 to 60 time of 4.89 seconds, which is definitely doable in a 1g stealth tt if launched correctly. The 2g stealth tt was capable of 13 seconds flat in the quarter mile and 0 to 60 in 4.7s to 60.
      No one in the us knew how to launch these cars!

    Have the pleasure of owning a 1991 twin turbo. Looks/sounds amazing, madness that after 28 years all the electronics still work. Super rare here in Ireland, gonna get it to showroom standard soon 👍 and hopefully turn some heads haha

      Still have it by chance? I'm in the market for one, and finding a VR4 in Ireland seems like an impossibility. They're even hard to find in the UK, and with Brexit importing cars from the UK has been made a complete mess now.

  • @mdoe8
    @mdoe8 8 років тому +128

      I just found a VR-4 sitting in a field amongst 3 other SL models. The guy said it was running fine and wouldn't start up one day so he parked it where it is. It's a 91 model in need of paint, interior and obviously some mechanical work. He asked for 3k but I think it's too high. What ya think? I'm thinking 2k

    I've had mine for 12 years now and this car is my favorite! Yes, you get cars that are modern, lighter and more power to them but still the 3000GT VR-4 is the car that owns my heart. Even though it's old I still feel that this car is really good to drive. And taken in consideration that it was ahead of its time when it was made, Mitsubishi did a fucking good job making this car! And all the yummy tech they put in it. In the 90's!! The love for this car will never fade away

      Kobrakai I cant convince my parents to let me get one. I found one in near perfect condition '97 VR4 for $9500. It's "unsafe" for them?

    • @Exavolt
      @Exavolt 8 років тому +5

      unsafe? far from lol they're actually extremely safe, someone in the socal3s group not long ago got rearended while in his vr4 by someone going about 40mph apparently, he was fine and the car that hit him, a corolla I believe was completely totaled. meanwhile, he had a small dent on his bumper lol. These cars are built like tanks, the only issue is you HAVE to stay on top of them and take care of them! They get a reputation for being unreliable because people just don't understand that. If you do manage to get it, immediately do the timing belt, and make sure you get a mitsubishi oem tensioner and change every 60k!

    • @TheGrayWolf81
      @TheGrayWolf81 8 років тому +3

      Kobrakai I know all of this already. The problem is that my parents think that if it's a sports car it isn't safe. I can't get them to change their minds. All they like and have are SUVs and trucks. They also think that it's a waste of money because it isn't much use. They just don't get the concept of fun.

      blowbyu187 i had a 93 300zx tt, i loved that thing. I did some bpu upgrades before i sold it. I sold the z over my 96 vr4 only because i was doing so much highway driving, and the z ate corners like a monster. Even with the bpu mods i had, my stock VR4 still pulled on my z from a dig, but from a roll the z would gap it.
      Selling that z is one of my biggest regrets. I love my VR4 but it never handled like that z, imo the z32 handled just as well as the fd3.

    I told a friend of mine I once saw a Mitsubishi GTO and he didn't believe me he never heard of it. In the 90's internet wasn't a thing. He was considerably younger than I. This car was the thing of legends. Till he googled it and luckily found info on it.

  • @H0LDENSUX
    @H0LDENSUX 8 років тому +2

    Active Aero is fantastic if programmed to meeting situations where the driver can gain an advantage on rival racers. My own concept is to have the software detect the distance of a straight road the car is on (through Google map style data) and based on the driver's throttle and braking application, have the spoiler set low as possible to reduce drag. As soon as the corners appear, the spoiler automatically readjusts the most appropriate height based on the sharpness of the corner and G Force generated and depending if another straight of road appears on corner exit, the spoiler is set low again to maximize straight line speed. There should also be a manual override on how the spoiler and diffuses is applied once the driver identifies that certain tyres have lost grip. Behaves pretty must like a modern F1 car but to have these concepts applied to a car from the 1990s is timeless thinking.

    I bought this car 30 years ago because I couldn't afford a Ferrari F40. They both had turboed 3L engines. I upgraded the GTO to put out 494 awhp on a dyno. Back then, the GTO was one of the most gorgeous sports cars and always attracted a crowd. It's negative points were it's weight and the Getrag gearbox couldn't handle the torque. Back then, the car had all the features one could dream of. Electronic suspension, active aero. Silent/sports exhaust, ABS, airbag, etc...An affordable Japanese Ferrari!

    I had one of these - a Japanese import, MkII. Spent a lot of money uprating the suspension, brakes, forged internals, bigger turbos, injectors, fuel system, front mount intercooler, twin stainless straight through exhausts (one exhaust from each turbo, no cats - sounded awesome) and stand-alone management system. It put out around 512bhp on the dyno and was a lot of fun. Problem with them is the output shaft is weak, and breaks easily when you add power and all the torque for the 4WD has to go through one little shaft in a heavy car (mine was lightened with a lot of carbon fibre panels too). I got sick of replacing those damned shafts so sold it for an Evo at the time...

    Sooooo.....Whats the difference between Mitsubishi 3000GT, VR4, SL and GTO????

    • @trackmonstertyper8279
      @trackmonstertyper8279 5 років тому

      3000GT SL was FWD and had 222hp from a 3.0L V6. With the manual they were high 14s cars. USDM only model
      3000GT VR4 is the USDM twin turbo model. 1990-1993 had 300hp, 1994-1999 had an underrated 320hp.
      GTO is the Japanese name of the car. In Japan they had the base model GTO SR with the same 3.0L V6 but it was AWD.
      GTO Twin Turbo was identical to the US 3000GT VR4
      GTO MR was a j spec only model that was faster than the R32 and R33 Skyline GTR.

    What was the Out of Province like for this car? I have one I will get and want to know as much as possible

      I am the owner of this car. I had to register it in BC after buying it in Alberta. In province inspection was a bit of a nightmare. It took a lot of work, replacing struts, ball joints and various other components to get it to pass.

      It handles really well, the faster you go the more nimble it feels because the All wheel steering is pump driven.

      aryanenzo Hey! How reliable has this car been? I'd rather hear it from someone that owns a 3000gt. I'm looking at a nice, stock 1995 VR4 that looks to be in really nice shape

      SuzuRyderHD My 91 has been relatively reliable for such a old car. in the year ive dailied it, its only blew a fuse and the reverse light switch has died. but ive spent a lot of money on prevantative stuff like shocks, balljoints, waterpump, timing belt, etc etc etc.

    The car still looks amazing for its age. Perhaps its strength is also its weakness, those techs on the car were way too ahead of its time, and they were not so reliable.
