      The difficult parts are the kataka ones. While I listen I think they are words that I'm missing but all of them end up being things like "afternoon tea" 🫠
      The rest was easy although a bit difficult for me because I haven't really practiced since I passed the N5 exam.

      What surprises me is that I actually understand everything easily. I mean, sure, I play lots of japanese TCG like union arena and OPTCG, and both are using japanese cards here in asia region, but I expected myself at some really low beginner level. The only reason why I can read and translate japanese cards is because they use furigana on top of all kanji after all.
      I suspect that this isn't the actual test for N5. I can't be that good. And of course, I suck at speaking.

    Yooooo! I just realized that I'm not translating as much in my head, I can just understand what is being said. I'm far from being able to speak Japanese and even farther from organizing the sentence structure correctly, but I understand the words that she is saying. Out of order, yes, but I can infer what is being said. For those who are having a hard time writing and listening to Japanese "speak out of order" compared to English, it starts to make sense after a while. It's taken me 2 years of non serious studying to finally get past understanding the sentence order. I don't worry about translating the sentence in my head; I just listen for what I understand now.

    • @johnlawrencetamio4381
      @johnlawrencetamio4381 9 місяців тому +14

      Same here. I was like "Why can't I translate it?" even though I understood most of it. Then I realized it's because the translation is reversed! Translating Japanese to English requires you to listen to the whole sentence before you can start translating it since the translation is often right to left, otherwise your translation will be "out of order" just as you said.
      Trust me, if you want to be able to understand Japanese, translating is unnecessary unless you want to be a translator or an Interpreter. Whatever you are doing, keep doing it because that's what I call natural acquisition. 2 years is a long time and you are on the right path. Just a friendly advice, if you are not studying seriously, try to study N4 or N3 grammar from time to time. It helps in sentence construction and future understanding. Also, don't forget immersion.

    I really like the English subtitles. Sometimes when I'm using a program to learn Japanese, the English translations are "what they mean to say" vs what they literally just said in Japanese. I get they want the English to be more like what a native English speaker would say, but It can be confusing and it slows down the learning process for me. So I appreciate your subtitles actually say what you're saying in Japanese. I hope that made sense.

    • @creaper3538
      @creaper3538 9 місяців тому +22

    As someone who has been learning Japanese for about a year and a half now without any formal testing, I was really worried to click on this video in case I wouldn’t be able to actually understand it. I’ve had a very atypical learning journey, so getting through all 3 sentences with maybe 1-2 words each I didn’t get on the first try was a huge confidence boost!
    Thank you for the incredible video, and I look forward to seeing a N4 version if/when you make it!
    一年半ぐらい日本語を勉強している人から、この動画はちょっと怖かったです。「何も知らなければ、どうしよう?」と思ったけど、これはすごく分かりやすかったですよ!僕の自身がちょっと増えたから、感謝しています!
    もち先生、ありがとうございます!

    I understood at least 70% of it the first time! This is great encouragement, and also reminds me that I really need to work on my verbs and grammar!

    This video made me so happy! I had Japanese class for 2 semesters in college almost 9 years ago. I wasn’t sure if I would still understand this but I did! I had trouble hearing Dubai though. Aside from that, I was able to understand everything else on the first listen! ❤ Thinking of picking up Japanese again so this is very useful. Just subscribed! 🌟

    Hearing it slowly, I can barely understand any of the words. But when spoken at normal speed I understood everything no problem without thinking

    !!! I can't believe how much of that I actually understood!! Oh man, this has given me some confidence that I really have been learning! I could even tell I learned some new stuff too! Certainly will come back to this video often to try and get my listening skills up, I was still just so surprised I could actually somewhat keep up with the speaking, this is so exciting lol

    Awesome video!! I understood almost all of the first example, and most of second and third.
    I been liking learning more japanese through this sort of examples, like sentences and dialogues, it helps a lot to see everything put together.
    Thanks for the video!

    This is very good listening practice. I would love more videos like this to bridge the gap between N5 and N4!
    My wife and I are studying Minna no Nihongo with a teacher, and we are almost finished with the first volume. This video was almost entirely comprehensible to me and stretched my knowledge a little bit further. It's very inspiring to see how far we've come and to hear/see what's over the horizon. 本当にありがとうございます!
    皆さん、頑張りましょう!💪🧠

    Glad to know 10+ years of watching anime made me have JLPT N5 level without purposely studying Japanese
    I did decide to learn how to read hiragana and katakana though, and it's now time to move on to kanji
    Hope everyone has a good time while learning!
