Only took 10 seconds to find out im not at JLPT N5 level lol
Don't give up, you can do it 💪
four season hotel was quite hard
The difficult parts are the kataka ones. While I listen I think they are words that I'm missing but all of them end up being things like "afternoon tea" 🫠
The rest was easy although a bit difficult for me because I haven't really practiced since I passed the N5 exam.
@@simongonzalez1617 Hey as a more advanced learner I can tell you it actually gets easier as people speak faster when it comes to katakana words!
a-fu-ta-nu--n ti- is hard to recognise, but faster it sounds like aftanu-n ti- and it’s way more obvious haha
@@yoimiyafan69 that makes a lot of sense :D
I like how the 2 top comments are “I understood absolutely nothing” and “Turns out I understand Japanese”.
What surprises me is that I actually understand everything easily. I mean, sure, I play lots of japanese TCG like union arena and OPTCG, and both are using japanese cards here in asia region, but I expected myself at some really low beginner level. The only reason why I can read and translate japanese cards is because they use furigana on top of all kanji after all.
I suspect that this isn't the actual test for N5. I can't be that good. And of course, I suck at speaking.
Understood the first one with kanji seems like I should just listen more and familiarize with vocab yay
@@kueapel911N5 is the lowest level you can be, I think you're confusing it with N1.
The dichotomy of language learning. It really goes from "wtf I don't understand" to "wtf I understand?!".
@@kueapel911Well N5 really is the lowest level
This has been the greatest ego boost of my entire life.
I am eternally grateful.
ikr, I've been learning Japanese purely on duolingo so I had no idea what N5 to N1 even meant until I googled it, glad to -see- hear the progress I've made since starting I honestly didn't expect to be able to understand EVERYTHING so easily
I felt great too until I realized N5 is literally the lowest japanese level possible 🥲
Fr tho she talked too slow tho I would actually understand it better if she spoke faster at a slow normal speed
Same
Oooh thats why it’s the low level
Years of watching anime finally paid off lol
same here lol, I feel so grateful
Same here~
Same here~
bruh same lol. Everything was crystal clear
yatta
Love this format.
1. Without subtitles to test oneself
2. With subtitles to find and learn missing knowledge,
3. Without subtitles again, to test again. ⭐
Even though I still need tons and tons of studying, I completely agree 100%. I love this format and the speed in which you say it. I do not have the ear yet to listen at a faster speed. Thank you very much. Please. Please. Please do more N5 videos like this.
it's genius because she gets 3x the video length out of 1x footage but it actually helps so I don't even mind
It's a great way to teach.
She talks to slow for me
This is like that feeling of not knowing what it means but somehow understanding it
You understand the vibes, not the translation. Thats how it feels for me
Rare to have N4/N5 tutorial on UA-cam, so it’s really difficult for the beginners to test themselves. By finishing this video, it will not only test their progress but also give confidence to the beginners. Well done!🎉
N5, and N4 content is by far the most common type of content.
@@TragicGFuel I agree. Feels like everyone does N5/N4 content xD Foreigners and Japanese alike. There's so much material, to the point I feel like you can get to that level on your own. Then again, N5 sadly is absolutely nothing ;_;
@@inu506 it's simple math, the biggest audience is always the most inexperienced one.
Because lots of people give up just after N4
The sigh of relief when I understood everything the first time was MONUMENTAL
Wtf
The Four Seasons Hotel and Afternoon Tea really got me there ahah my ear is not trained nor expecting loan words like that I guess. Excelent exercise to remind us that it's the little details like this that count! :)
I'm the same. Katakana words are always the toughest for me.
Same
And T-shirt.. i thought she said hissatsu.. i think i watch anime too much
I kinda got the four seasons but she lost me at afternoon tea, I wad like, sorry what?😭
@@ragerteenager968 Funny enough it was the exact opposite for me. Afternoon tea I recognized immediately but four seasons was totally lost on me
Yooooo! I just realized that I'm not translating as much in my head, I can just understand what is being said. I'm far from being able to speak Japanese and even farther from organizing the sentence structure correctly, but I understand the words that she is saying. Out of order, yes, but I can infer what is being said. For those who are having a hard time writing and listening to Japanese "speak out of order" compared to English, it starts to make sense after a while. It's taken me 2 years of non serious studying to finally get past understanding the sentence order. I don't worry about translating the sentence in my head; I just listen for what I understand now.
Same here. I was like "Why can't I translate it?" even though I understood most of it. Then I realized it's because the translation is reversed! Translating Japanese to English requires you to listen to the whole sentence before you can start translating it since the translation is often right to left, otherwise your translation will be "out of order" just as you said.
Trust me, if you want to be able to understand Japanese, translating is unnecessary unless you want to be a translator or an Interpreter. Whatever you are doing, keep doing it because that's what I call natural acquisition. 2 years is a long time and you are on the right path. Just a friendly advice, if you are not studying seriously, try to study N4 or N3 grammar from time to time. It helps in sentence construction and future understanding. Also, don't forget immersion.
いつか、必ず日本語を理解できるようになりますように。
一生懸命頑張りましょう!
@johnlawrencetamio4381 thank for for the advice 🙏🏾
Same I am Korean and English speaker
Sometimes I know all the words in a phrase but I don't know what it means. For example 'chisai mae ni'. I never would have gotten that if I didn't look it up.
がんばってねー ^_^
Thank you so much for uploading this content! I've been learning for 9 months now and I was able to understand about 85% of that! Thank you so much for a much needed confidence boost!
I really like the English subtitles. Sometimes when I'm using a program to learn Japanese, the English translations are "what they mean to say" vs what they literally just said in Japanese. I get they want the English to be more like what a native English speaker would say, but It can be confusing and it slows down the learning process for me. So I appreciate your subtitles actually say what you're saying in Japanese. I hope that made sense.
Agreed. It can be so confusing when the translation assumes things about context and adds that to the english translation to make the english look ordinary. I think that's what you mean.
Yeah I hate that too
This is honestly one of the best tools I’ve seen on UA-cam to track my progress and get comprehensible input at the level I was looking for, thank you Mochi Sensei
It's amazing how much slowing down the speaking speed eases understanding. Of course, the vocabulary was also basic with lots of loan words, but i could understand everything the first time.
Increasing the vocabulary level at slow speed would be very helpful.
Hey, i just found out your channel is super help me to learning 日本語. Especially, the listening training. Thank you so much for your works.
Can't wait for the N4 version! I learned practical Japanese first. So, these are a great way to gauge my JLPT level.
i'm editing N4 now!😊
Is it out now? :) @@mochirealjapanese3430
Holy crap, I've actually been learning something and this has been a big boost to my motivation to keep going! I can learn Japanese, I can do it! Having something like this to help me realize the progress I've made is so helpful!
I'm not ready yet. I need to study more!
Input is the most important part! Also practicing making more and more complex sentences!
@@earthrise9064 can you explain? By input do you mean lots and lots of listening, just kinda immersing as much as possible?
@@two2truths it must be comprehensible to some degree though. learn words and grammar until things are comprehensible and then the listening input will become useful. learn words and review them often so you dont forget them while you learn new words
@@humanbean3 so you mean just consistent spaced repitition? Constantly adding new vocab in listening, speaking, reading, writing?
@@two2truths yes exactly. except you don't need speaking practice until much later unless you are just trying to learn real fast for a tourist trip. You also dont really need to focus on writing, but it does help to learn to write maybe 50-100 kanji just to really notice the components. spaced repetition with vocab for sure. looking up grammar along the way
I've been sloooowly learning japanese for almost a year and I was able to understand all the grammar used and know most of the kanji used, I still need to learn more N5 vocabulary but until now I'm proud of myself 😊 thank you for these videos!! They really help ❤
This was so helpful, please keep making these! They're greatly appreciated
Thanks, will do!
This is exactly the listening excercise that I need! The pace of the speech is perfect for a beginner like me :) Thank you for your video!
Thanks
thank you so much❣️
I LOVED this video, so helpful for listening practice, felt understandable and inspired me to do lots of needed listening practice in a conversational way.
understood 60% without subtitles
Me too.
yeah, me too.
This is a wonderful format and a great way to measure current skills and weaknesses. Thank you so much for this!
I'm really proud of myself for understanding the majority of what you said!
You are a godsend, Thank you for your content
You're very welcome!
I'm so glad I understood everything without subtitles. She speaking slowly really helpes, but still I'm happy
もち先生 教えてくれてありがとう!!
I realized quite fast that: If i don't pay that close attention i don't understand
But if i focus i do mostly understand what's being said, which defently opened my eyes a bit since i learned words from just listening to other words i already knew.
Thanks :D
These videos are very helpful. Thank you!
Glad you like it!
Mochi Sensei, please, make more videos like this. It help us to improve our listening by hearing a native speaking. It would be good if sometimes you’d make a video using 敬語、丁寧語 and 尊敬語.
Thank you very much for your kind help on teaching Japanese.
your gestures helped me understand better.
This is why teachers use it. Increases the comprehensible input.
the color coding is underrated. it's immensely useful.
I got more of this than I expected. 🙂 It might be a nice extra challenge to have all three sections repeated together at native, conversational speed at the end!
That’s a good idea, if you wanted to challenge yourself you could also change the video speed as well and may be similar
The Four Seasons Hotel and Afternoon Tea really made me trip 😅 I'm glad I could understand like 60% of what was said on the first time. Thank you for making content like this!
God, when I thought you couldn't do better, you are doing an even more incredible video ;-)! Thank you so much, as a remote Japanese learner, these videos are totemo amazing! (Planning to take JLPT N5 in December)
I can't hit the "Like" button enough times on this video! Thank you so much for these listening videos! 🙏
Really helpful in gauging, please continue this series, 感謝します
やばい!!!! thank you Busuu omg ! This app is wonderful!! ありがとうございます、もち先生!
Loved it ! Understood like 90% of it.
Thank you very much! My method of learning is mostly auditory, however I couldn't do that at all for N5, because there wasn't a single video on it on UA-cam. Probably because the spec feels so small. However I'm forever greatful that you made this video, finally I can learn without having to force myself to use the old cover and write method for every word.
Thank you for the video, i understood the general context of it by knowing certain things and adding in the rest - or what i think was being said.
Having it slowed down was appreciated.
Excellent presentation on a story, which help me understand Japanese for my basic level!
Thank you. This really boosted my confidence
Woahhh 嬉しいです!! There were only about 3 words i didnt know, and since im doing n5 in a month this was very reassuring! ありがとうございます!
This format was very helpful, would love to see more like this!
From 00:30 a learner at N5 level will understand. This is timestamp
Practice 1
00:30 without subtitles
01:33 with subtitles
02:38 without subtitles again
Practice 2
03:48 without subtitles
04:37 with subtitles
05:29 without subtitles again
Practice 3
06:21 without subtitles
07:13 with subtitles
08:03 without subtitles again
This is a really good format for listening practice. Very helpful (as usual). Thank you!
in 1 month I went from not understanding a word you said to fully understanding the scenario wow! thank you
Well, this has raised my spirits a little bit. Maybe my Japanese isn't as bad as I thought, as I understood over 90% of the audio.
This is great!! maybe one try with japanese only subtitles? I mostly study with manga and books so i do understand better with japanese subs.
Thank you so much for the video, it really helps!
ありがとうございます。もち先生の動画が大好きです 🩷🥰
うれしい☺️
thank you !
more videos like this one please !
Love this series, more videos please for JLPT help!
It feels great to understand everything naturally and almost without thinking even at x2 speed
Sentences in English and Japanese with colors help a lot ☺️🙏 thank you
This is great - thank you!
Mochi voice is so sweet. I've only been studying Japanese for a month and this is well beyond my reach, but I'm surprised I've managed to pick out a few scattered vocab to maybe understand 30% of the meaning.
Anyhow really appreciate this Mochi Sensei, I really like your voice and this style of teaching!!!! I have about 3 years worth of Mochi Sensei videos to watch lol.
When you understood everything without ever learning japanese (But I guess 1000s of hours of anime count as learning)
pretty impressive
thats how language is acquired so im not surprised you know it maybe you should try learning how to write and read what youve learned passively
@@nobodyimportant850 yes I'm doing that, I can read hiragana and katakana now, how about you bro?
@@GreatPirateKing I’m more then half way through N5 and I still haven’t learned katakana :,>
@@nobodyimportant850 starting katakana is tough because you'll have to memorise the same sounds with a different shape, i had an aversion to it too but you have to start learning it sooner or later so why not now! All the best
This type of videos are very helpful 😊
できた!!
やったね!
Thanks for this video, neither too short nor too long. i understood the gist of it but im yet to understand the full thing so ill keep the link and come back to it next week.
(sorry in advance) 持ち先制ありがとございます
Amazing working material先生🙇🏻♀️ありがとございます
it was a best practice for me , thanks Mochi
Thank you so much for doing this video! It was very informative ❤😊
As someone who has been learning Japanese for about a year and a half now without any formal testing, I was really worried to click on this video in case I wouldn’t be able to actually understand it. I’ve had a very atypical learning journey, so getting through all 3 sentences with maybe 1-2 words each I didn’t get on the first try was a huge confidence boost!
Thank you for the incredible video, and I look forward to seeing a N4 version if/when you make it!
一年半ぐらい日本語を勉強している人から、この動画はちょっと怖かったです。「何も知らなければ、どうしよう?」と思ったけど、これはすごく分かりやすかったですよ!僕の自身がちょっと増えたから、感謝しています!
もち先生、ありがとうございます!
I understood at least 70% of it the first time! This is great encouragement, and also reminds me that I really need to work on my verbs and grammar!
this is so helpful. thank you for this!
I LOVE the format of this video! Thank you so much, definitely subscribing for more N5 content!
This video made me so happy! I had Japanese class for 2 semesters in college almost 9 years ago. I wasn’t sure if I would still understand this but I did! I had trouble hearing Dubai though. Aside from that, I was able to understand everything else on the first listen! ❤ Thinking of picking up Japanese again so this is very useful. Just subscribed! 🌟
ありがとう、先生。
this exercise is very helpful, I can understand half of the sentences. please show more of the N5 level practice 🙏
Really great format thanks! I understood most of it but the subtitles helped me figure out my mistakes or learn new words I haven't acquired
I'm so happy! I understood most of it! Only a few words were harder, but I could still get what you were saying! Thank you so so much!!!
Hearing it slowly, I can barely understand any of the words. But when spoken at normal speed I understood everything no problem without thinking
ah~ loved that Video. felt so demotivated nowadays bc my japanese skill is vanishing despite trying to study. But I did understand everything without a problem~ Now I am motivated again! Thank you!
This video format is a game changer!
!!! I can't believe how much of that I actually understood!! Oh man, this has given me some confidence that I really have been learning! I could even tell I learned some new stuff too! Certainly will come back to this video often to try and get my listening skills up, I was still just so surprised I could actually somewhat keep up with the speaking, this is so exciting lol
thank you for the lesson🥰. It's been a while since I studied for N4 and I haven't kept up with my Japanese. Your video was a great refresher! I really need to get back to learning Japanese
I had to relisten a few times when I forgot some of the words. I hope I can clear N5 flawlessly someday! Thank you for the video! It was very encouraging even if I'm very lacking right now!
This video humbled me really quickly after 5 months of studying
Thank you so much for your work and your time that you give to help us with learning Japanese. It is very interesting and useful. I've got more than 50% this time - but I will try to retake this listening. Looking forward for other tests!
YESSSS I UNDERSTOOD EVERYTHING!!! This literally made my day ahaha
make more of this please!! really helpful!
For me the first sentence was even easier than the second. Thank you very much for this video!
what a humbling video
Awesome video!! I understood almost all of the first example, and most of second and third.
I been liking learning more japanese through this sort of examples, like sentences and dialogues, it helps a lot to see everything put together.
Thanks for the video!
I feel so much more confident in my Japanese now, I understood everything except Four Seasons Hotel and, for some reason, forty minutes lol. Thank you so much!
Excellent, I can understand 90% of your talk! I still need much practice, though, on actually speaking and writing at this level. 😄
thank you this shows me i need to focus more on listening then reading bc i (covering the english) could understand the subtitles but barely what you were saying without them
This is the first time I understood everything! I'm so happy 🥰
this format is so nice!!
i understood 95% of everything but i find it hard to use some of these phrases and expressions myself so i will focus on practicing that more!!!
Loved it!!! Thanks for the video. The subtitles really help a lot. 😍😍😍
loved you content. This kind of test is so good and hard to find. Please make more of it 🤩
I was surprised by how much I could understand before the subtitles. This is so useful.
This is very good listening practice. I would love more videos like this to bridge the gap between N5 and N4!
My wife and I are studying Minna no Nihongo with a teacher, and we are almost finished with the first volume. This video was almost entirely comprehensible to me and stretched my knowledge a little bit further. It's very inspiring to see how far we've come and to hear/see what's over the horizon. 本当にありがとうございます!
皆さん、頑張りましょう!💪🧠
The color coding is really nice addition to translations.
I UNDERSTOOD IT ALL AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
🎉 Congrats
Great video. I could definitely notice I cannot understand enough yet (although can understand a lot). This helps me see my progress so far
Glad to know 10+ years of watching anime made me have JLPT N5 level without purposely studying Japanese
I did decide to learn how to read hiragana and katakana though, and it's now time to move on to kanji
Hope everyone has a good time while learning!
