I like watching the channel nihongo no mori for N3, N2 and N1.
I think this would be really helpful, as it's a good way to check your level in different areas. I find the N4 listening and reading to be easy, but when I think about what I can spontaneously produce, it's probably around this level. I think there will be the most demand for N5/N4 videos, but it would be nice to have a good number of N3 videos too, and at least an example video for N2 and for N1

It's an interesting phenomenon, being able to comfortably understand everything that's being said, but knowing that the relatively advanced phrasing would never have occurred to you to say yourself. Guess that's just how it is when there isn't anyone to practice conversations with.
Wow that's exactly what I was thinking. Since Japanese isn't my only second language, I'm very familiar with this feeling of being able to comfortably comprehend whatever is being said, but realising that I wouldn't be able to speak like that myself. It's just a symptom of not practicing speaking the language. It happens with your first language too, but the difference in comprehension and skills and speaking skills isn't much since you would have enough practice. It's interesting how our brains work lol.
That's why if you can, use apps like HelloTalk, or try and find conversation groups near you. The other option is to just talk to yourself like you're insane which is what I mostly do, but you can only really go so far with that (but it helps because you need to practice speaking and constructing sentences). Failing all the above, just blow your life savings and go to Japan, that is truthfully the most effective way to learn rapidly.
I passed N2 2 years ago and have been working in a Japanese company (in Tokyo) for almost 2 years now but I enjoy listening to this just to:
1. Refresh my memory on certain grammar points
2. Just to relax after spending an entire day listening to my colleagues speak keigo/ super fast all day. It's really tiring~
It's soooooooo helpful that the english subtitles are of the actual japanese spoken and not an "englishified" version which makes more sense in English
(4:38 is a good example, read in English on its own this sentence is wild lol)

It basically means "I need to think about what can I do in order to keep it from being eaten"
The "avoid *it* being eaten" part is inferred by the context, hence the english sentence says "to avoid being eaten"
Japanese is weird, no context is the norm

learning japanese for about 2 years, yet understood only 10% of each situation
@@BichTedetook me four years to get to 100%. I procrastinated a lot in my first three years and even sometimes now but I've still worked hard as well. I don't know how you study but immersion is key. Just watch loads of videos in Japanese even I'd you don't understand any of it.

Reality hits like a truck when you notice the jump from N5 to N4.
These videos are super helpful in letting me know where I stand, and I would love to see more N4 videos to help me bridge that N5-N4 gap more adequately.
I actually understood the clips better in increasing order, as in the first clip was the toughest and the last one about gomi, the easiest.

Is the difference that big? I've never learnt Japanese, I only watch anime, but with that knowledge this wasn't that much harder. For me, it was pretty much the same.
I mean I couldn't perfectly understand everything, but like 70% of every stories (including the ones from the N5 video).
Well, if we are just talking about getting the gist of the message, sure, it's not too hard. But imagine having to speak it. To do that at the same pace and with the same phrasing, I know for a fact I can't do that now. There are many technical aspects of the language she uses here which I'm not yet familiar with. Plus, we are only just talking about listening here. Speaking and writing would be a whole other game.

@@Velvettia Based on what? Or how do you think kids learn to speak their native language without actually "learning"? I've spent more than 5k hours watching anime. I can understand basic conversations to some degree.

But it's a differently learning if you speak with your parents and use it by your self or you watch only Anime..

Love this type of videos. I am amazed how much I was able to understand, especially from the third example, and I've been away from seriously learning Japanese for years, only watched anime with subtitles daily or so. Would be interesting to see for higher levels as well, but please do more practice for beginners too, thank you!

N4 is so much harder than N5. Will you get by living in japan on just N4
No,because to live comfortably there and actually get the citizenship permit in Japan,N2 mininum preferably N1.
I think I'm between n4 and n3 and I can't follow more than 20% a conversation, people say just with n3 you should be able to watch anime without subtitles, but I don't think so.
You should be able to with help. There are people who don't speak Japanese in Japan.
Speaking to japanese people will maybe increase your communication skills because from what I saw from my brother, he can speak fluently but can't read that much. He just practiced by speaking to japanese people and became fluent after 3 years

Thanks for posting these videos. I found your channel this week. I've been trying to learn Japanese for five years now, I know a lot of Kanji but zero grammar. I'll keep trying.
I never studied grammar I’m not saying it doesn’t work because it does but don’t try to brute force memorize it because your brain will have a huge conscious time lag. Idk how much you understood but definitely shouldn’t take long with 5 years of kanji study. Did you only study the writing system? Because I would imagine you would’ve read or watched tv shows or something because no grammar means little to none traditional school and textbook study. Because even a little vocab, kanji, and input for, I don’t wanna put a number on it but let’s say 1-2 years should easily get here realistically if your not like me (lazy) it can be done in less than half a year. I assume tho you meant you understood it but the grammar was elusive making it ambiguous or a “I know the words but not the sentence” moment.
@@notcyfhr thanks for taking the time to write your comment. Yes, I understand several words here and there but my brain doesn't register the full meaning of the sentence. The only grammar/particles I know: は、が、も、の、と. I know the meaning of more than 1000 kanji. But I am very lazy and I don't have a lot of time. But before this year ends I hope to get to N4.

Wow! I cannot believe it 😱 I could understand 80-95% in the first one without subtitles, and 100% in the next two versions. This is so cool.
It's interesting. This is probably pushing the limit of my capacity in Japanese. I can understand a lot of the meaning of the sentences, but after learning the intention in the second sentences, it becomes a lot easier to hear the words I didn't even notice were there (but I absolutely know, e.g. 高い場所.)

I've only learnt up to N5 but N4 listening was really easy for me. Advantage of listening to japanese radio & variety shows, ppl😂 Also thank u so much for making videos like these. Your cheerful voice & tone make the listening lessons less monotonous.

Thanks for this, was fun to test myself. Never studied Japanese, but I understood everything on the first time on the N5 and this video. But as I learned from anime and jdrama, if I were to respond, it would be a mix of kansai-ben, slang words and words that only people born in the showa era would use. And I would use keigo only by pure accident.
im a self learner whos current level is going from n5 to n4, this video is very helpful to me, i would like if there will be more contents like this, daily life scene kikurenshu, its rly efficient n easy learning material. anyways, thx for making this!!
The gap between N5 and N4 is HUGE! You can express so much more at the N4 level.

I found this easier than the N5 video because the speed and cadance was more normal. My only problem was I didn't know the word for trash ゴミ, which caused some problems with the start of the last one. haha. Less familiar with some of the grammar, meaning was very easy to follow. I'd say I understood about ~95% on this one.

5 days ago? How did I miss this for so long? :O
Anyway, I didn't expect to understand as much as I did. There were a few words here and there I didn't understand, but they were clear from context, so despite that, I pretty much understood everything 100%.
The speed was also pretty much perfect for me. Still a bit slow for normal conversation, but it did help me keep up - had it been at a normal speed, I probably would have had some trouble.

This is super weird. I have never put any effort into learning Japanese. But I have been watching anime with subtitles for 8 years now. With just that, I was able to understand 80% of it all in the first attempt itself. And I could figure the other 20% immediately within the context.
I can already speak 3 languages pretty well. My mother tongue (Telugu), and the two most understood languages in my country (Hindi and English). So maybe being a multilingual makes learning a new language easier?
