A topic discussed among my friends is the feeling that we reached a plateau and don’t feel any more improvement. This is at the USTA 4.5-5.0 level. Others have said the only thing that can make you better is mental/perspective changes. Not sure if this can be turned into a new video but it’s something I noticed a lot of people think about at that level. If you have any thoughts on this, that would also be appreciated!
Guys, thank you for this lesson. It’s the first time (after watching many videos on the serve) that I understand why each of the parts of the serve are actually contributing to the overall success of the serve. I am told to get into the trophy position, pronate, etc. but I never understood why. When I know WHY I am doing something, that helps me put it all together when practicing.Thank you for that clarity. I really like the way you work together to introduce a technique while the other demonstrates it. So helpful. And adding the different angles is awesome. Thank you again for all your hard work in bringing great vids to us and for the downloadable guides.

Fantastic step-by-step explanation of how to serve! Keep it up. You guys have the best tennis coaching on youtube. Can you guy explain how to rotate the hips on the serve? I am an intermediate player and have problems rotating my hips in general.
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I am using a platform stance. On a related note, after watching this video this morning, I went to the local court and did your suggested supination/pronation drill. I realized that I was supinating but not using it to increase my racquet head speed. I was supinating to rotate my racquet before contact, but it was not generating any additional racquet speed. After the drill, I noticed that serve had a lot more velocity. I now need to work on getting it more consistently in the court. Thank you for your very instructive videos!
Hi Alex & Simon, how so clear and classical school explained process you did. I have also one simple tip of all racquet shots included serve, and it is thae base of the tennis definition. Great video guys, and I am putting lots into practice now using these tips. One thing that might be added that is helping me, is in the shoulder over shoulder portion (i.e. trophy model) that one must "load" the arm and shoulder. It's hard to describe, but there seems to be a conscious act of rolling or tilting the shoulder back and "cocking" the arm against the shoulder to get maximum power. It's almost like a loaded gun feeling. If you just raise the arms to form the 90 degree trophy pose in the shoulder over shoulder position, it still will not deliver the type of power that you two show in your serving examples. I would love for one of you two to comment on this and show or describe this better than I can do. Thanks so much. Russell

When I say this, I do not mean footwork, I mean anticipation and reaction. In other words, What should a player be looking for (from the opposite player) that will tell him where to position himself? I do not know if this will be a hard video to make, but I do think that it will be interesting because many people say that it's all about the mind when it comes to tennis, and I think everyone would want to understand how to think so as to be the best. Great Video. I always follow your instructions and they are amazing. I do struggle with my launch with leg jump. I noticed Stan serve where he doesn’t jump a lot but does generate power. Could you do a lesson on that if possible please. Thank you again!
9:51-10:00 "So prior to contact, palm is facing the head. Contact point, palm is facing forward. Andn then after contact, palm is facing the right side of the court". For a powerful kick serve, does this apply? I have a McEnroe stance, turned completely away from the direction I'm serving. When my arm is in the starting serve position, my wrist is flexed downwards. During the service motion, it flights upwards as if to brush the ball, but ends facing towards me rather than out. I have a powerful and well positioned serve this way, but have some arm pain. Thanks!
Yes, it also applies on the kick serve, I cover it here: Video one - ua-cam.com/video/yjpi0cMrkyw/v-deo.html Video two - ua-cam.com/video/3nCowmjgN6w/v-deo.html
Great video and awesome tips on the serve! Just a suggestion, have you guys thought about inviting players for a challenge set/match and filming it like Ian at Essential Tennis is doing on his channel? If you ever do, I'be a guinea pig for a challenge set or match! Keep up the good work guys👍
I don't think Ian should have done that. I used to tell students that if they find a teacher who cares more about his/her own game than your game, find another teacher. I became a worse player when I began to teach. I had a low take back backhand. With that you could not disguise drop shots or even your slice. So I switched to high because that is what I should be teaching . I had a pin point serve stance but switched to platform because that is what I taught. I hit forehands with a straight back swing and was 100 percent open stance. When semi open came about I knew that was better at least when you had time. That is what I taught as well as open. I converted to the ATP forehand (lagging) to see if that is what I should teach. While I could do it, took too long to learn and it is hard to time. Tennis academy kids and future D1 players should learn it. High school players who will quit after high school should do an easier swing. An adult student who I was only working on his serve wanted to play me while I was converting to that ATP forehand. So I played him and ran around my forehand since my backhand was not a work in progress. As I got older it was getting harder to stay healthy running. If I pulled a calf, quad, or hamstring, I would not be able to teach and that would let my students down.
Grant - We have challenged a few trolls who like to dismiss our work, invited them to play a match and livestream it, place a bet on the game etc. So far, nobody has taken up the offer. We were planning to compete this year, I had started training very hard in March before our US clinics and was in very good shape around that time fitness wise, we wanted to play futures and money events and vlog everything while being on the road again. But then covid hit and the world turned upside down and all the plans have been put on hold for the foreseeable future. What Ian is doing is fun for a certain portion of his audience but I feel our channel is different to his in the fact we have kept it purely high level instruction since 2017. He has experimented, while we stayed on track at what we do best - give players our best instruction. All the best Simon
Hi Simon, ah I see! Well I play to a decent level but you or Alex would crunch me as you both played pro tennis and I'm a keen amateur but I still play grade 3's, play British Tour Fast 4's and senior ITF's. But when times are better, I'd be more than up for a challenge set/ match just for a bit of fun but also some valuable match play content for your viewers, obviously only if it makes sense for you and your channel. I just love competing:) I hear you regarding your content and that you stay true to high level instruction. You guys put out awesome high level instruction. Also good luck when you and Alex get out there again on the British Tour/Futures circuit, will be fun to see how you guys get on. Keep up the great work guys! Grant.
I said this already, but I am mostly a power server but I also aim for the corners and usually get the general direction right. I am like Alexander Zverev in pretty much every way
Thanks for this, great video. I am the only one who cannot replicate any of this on the practice court!? In my head I see Simon's serve - in reality, off the frame lol. So hard to put this into action but interesting nonetheless
Enjoy your videos very much.Very helpful. My problem is I can't make the racquet drop like it should be.Guess have a bad muscle memory from serving the wrong way over the years. Is there a way or drill I can fix it ? Can you give me an advice please ?
Work on increasing the range of motion in the shoulder, stretch the area daily. Often when players can't get a good racket drop, it's not a technical problem, it's due to a stiff shoulder region All the best Simon
Hi guys, thanks for the great video. Can I know the proper breathing sequence when serve to stay relax? When is the best moment to breath in? Is it after the toss together with the knee bend?
High I d like to ask re: pronation. Should be the pronation not only in forearm but also created by shoulder rotation. Otherwise coulem be false pronation? Or how you actually asses term false pronation what describes Nick Aracic. Thank you for answer and for your marvellous videos
Watch this video - ua-cam.com/video/rvgkHQgdbC0/v-deo.html The coach you mention likes to "debunk" common coaching terms so he stands out yet his own strokes are very, very questionable. There are very few online coaches with any respect in the real coaching community, most are seen as jokers
Production quality is going way up, nice guys. Serve looks bigger the before Simon. Totally unrelated but can’t help notice Alex has had different sticks lately, no more Pure Aero? Also Question: notice occasionally on my trophy pose my elbow isn’t low enough so when I do the motion the racquet head doesn’t drop low enough. Any cues to remind this when in stressful situations?
It would be very, very interesting to know the relative importance of each step in adding power to the serve. I saw a video yesterday in which 80-90% of the power is attributed to the shoulder over shoulder step. Can that be possible?
So many claims out there, one online cowboy was serving off his knees saying the arm produces most of the power on his serve. He’s never learned to use his body correctly obviously. Each element will add power, the key is to maximise each one

Sometimes, pros move diagonally, into the court, and out of the court, and I would like to understand how they know when to do this. Thank you once again for your hard work!

Hey sir can you make a video on when to play offensive and when to play defensive in tournaments or in tennis marches??
We cover tactics and strategy in great depth here - www.top-tennis-training.com/course/singles-revolution/
After the Big3 you are the best, even simon's serve with pronation only is 12x better than mine, great video!

Great Video. I always follow your instructions and they are amazing. I do struggle with my launch with leg jump. I noticed Stan serve where he doesn’t jump a lot but does generate power. Could you do a lesson on that if possible please. Thank you again!

"So prior to contact, palm is facing the head.
Thanks!
Yes, it also applies on the kick serve, I cover it here:

Hey Simon something I do on my serve(platform) is I shift my weight back and forth even tho I don't move my feet helps me find rhythm.

Do you find that you often end up on the front foot too early when doing the rocking motion?

All the best

Hi Simon, ah I see! Well I play to a decent level but you or Alex would crunch me as you both played pro tennis and I'm a keen amateur but I still play grade 3's, play British Tour Fast 4's and senior ITF's.
But when times are better, I'd be more than up for a challenge set/ match just for a bit of fun but also some valuable match play content for your viewers, obviously only if it makes sense for you and your channel. I just love competing:)
I hear you regarding your content and that you stay true to high level instruction. You guys put out awesome high level instruction.
Also good luck when you and Alex get out there again on the British Tour/Futures circuit, will be fun to see how you guys get on.
Keep up the great work guys!
Grant.
Excellent!!
Many thanks!
Are you a precision or power server?
Sometimes a precision but usually power
I love to hit ace's😂
What type of you uses??
@Oliver Cheung everyone is that way, even Roger Federer lmao
I said this already, but I am mostly a power server but I also aim for the corners and usually get the general direction right. I am like Alexander Zverev in pretty much every way
Thanks for this, great video. I am the only one who cannot replicate any of this on the practice court!? In my head I see Simon's serve - in reality, off the frame lol. So hard to put this into action but interesting nonetheless
Keep working on it 👍

Enjoy your videos very much.Very helpful. My problem is I can't make the racquet drop like it should be.Guess have a bad muscle memory from serving the wrong way over the years. Is there a way or drill I can fix it ? Can you give me an advice please ?
Work on increasing the range of motion in the shoulder, stretch the area daily.
Often when players can't get a good racket drop, it's not a technical problem, it's due to a stiff shoulder region

Hi guys, thanks for the great video. Can I know the proper breathing sequence when serve to stay relax? When is the best moment to breath in? Is it after the toss together with the knee bend?
Normally players will breathe in when they start the motion, so when getting into the trophy position, then start the exhale on the way to contact
Kick serve tutorial video in this format please 🙏🙏
We just released a kick serve tutorial last week and have many on the channel. You can search “kick serve” on our home page and you’ll see them

High I d like to ask re: pronation. Should be the pronation not only in forearm but also created by shoulder rotation. Otherwise coulem be false pronation? Or how you actually asses term false pronation what describes Nick Aracic. Thank you for answer and for your marvellous videos

The coach you mention likes to "debunk" common coaching terms so he stands out yet his own strokes are very, very questionable.
Work on the serve from the trophy position and focus on getting the elbow low to start with
You guys are dope as always, excellent content!

Thanks for this 5 steps tips for power serve. Now I know why I can't produce a fast serve.
👍 good luck with the power
It would be very, very interesting to know the relative importance of each step in adding power to the serve. I saw a video yesterday in which 80-90% of the power is attributed to the shoulder over shoulder step. Can that be possible?
So many claims out there, one online cowboy was serving off his knees saying the arm produces most of the power on his serve. He’s never learned to use his body correctly obviously.
Each element will add power, the key is to maximise each one
