Hi! I don’t think that your review was fair. I have one Demellier bag and it didn’t come with a plastic bag, but in a really good paper one and of course the dust bag. Demellier has also other better designed and well crafted bags than the one you chose. Give them another chance 😊

It’d be worthwhile to see you deconstruct a vintage leather bag vs it’s current version, the differences in construction, workmanship, tanning processes, depending on the age of the bag and what may have changed in the production process. I’d definitely watch something like that
I bought Seville metalassé in off white, the style is so beautiful, but I’ve noticed parts of the glue inside coming off. Such a disappointment. Although I have 2 high luxury bags, I can no longer justify such absurd purchases. For the price point of a Demellier bag, I think quality is a must. I don’t know when we normalized high prices and shitty quality. I saw people on the comments talking about Polene being better in quality, but in my experience not great either, I have 4 Polene bags, and that also was disappointing as all of them got scratched so easily. I don’t use them a lot, and I’m very careful with my things.
I had a demellier bag a while ago and it was really nice, but i sold it. i bought one a year ago and it was not as good, it had a really visible fault in the leather so i sent it back. I love their designs though. I'd be super interested in Stuad as I have a few of their bags and they are really gorgeous designs. Strathberry is such good quality and Polene not as much anymore. For mid price I stick to Strathberry and Staud. I do have a Aspinal lambskin bag which feels gorgeous, but i've noticed it's already rubbing at the corners. I have a friend who has many designer bags and she says the best quality bag she's ever owned is her Bulgari so I'd love for you to do them.
I had found the Vancouver bag on sale and it did not feel like a $500 bag. The hardware was tarnishing (under the protective plastic), and the strap rubbed badly on the hardware it runs through on top of the bag. The leather didn't feel or smell like leather. Thankfully, it was returnable. I've purchased other mid-range bags from small leather makers, and this bag just did not compare to those.

I would have to concur with the meh quality of Demellier. I just got my New York tote (croc embossed black) today which I was super excited for, but to my dismay, one of the button fell off when I detached it. I also own a Givenchy Antigona in croc embossed black and realized the Demellier's version is less shiny/ muted down, the look and feel wasn't as exquisite as I was expected, granted I'm comparing apple and oranges when it comes to the price point of Givenchy & Demellier. The New York tote does have a very unique design but look and feel was meh.
I’d be curious about your thoughts on one of their bigger bags like the New York. From some folks who have given one and two-year updates on the bags they are super durable. I’m currently on the fence for the DeMellier New York vs. Polene Cyme (I’m super reluctant bc of the double stars on the Cyme and that the snaps don’t stay closed between the two modes the bag can sit in).
Really curious what you'll think about the floto stuff, they've got garment bags that are pretty interesting and their backpacks look like they have 40 ft of leather in them
Demellier does not come packaged like this. They come in big, good quality boxes, with very nice bows. Everything is great quality and feels like opening high-end brand products. I bought 2 of their bags, and not sure why yours came this way. 😬 probably Neiman Marcus. 😅
I saw their bags in Selfridges and I saw one loose stitch inside the bag. The leather was good but overall experience of the bag was below average. If the price was around £200, I wouldn't be saying these.
I recently got a round equistrian Demelliervand I adore it. I bought it preloved - about $150 less than the Demellier web site. Begging for you to do a Hermes dupe I recently bought from Mille bags - a Kelly bag 25 cm black pebbled leather. It looks really good and the leather feels good with leather smell. It is meticulously made (to me) what cha think? Lots of people buying these Mille Bags.
Great review, thank you! Personally, I've had horrible experience with Demellier in terms of quality of their Vancouver bag, particularly when it comes to hardware and how leather wears and structure holds over time. The brand is no way close to Strathberry, Aspinal or Polene, unfortunately.
Purchased Tokyo tote in suede: uneven edge painting, could tell that the suede won’t hold up long. Returned. Purchased Tokyo saddle bad. Also could see quite a few imperfections in their craftsmanship. I’m tall but the strap length seemed way too long even for me (can be adjusted but the ends would just flap). Retuned it. Not purchasing anything from this brand anymore. Not worth the money in my opinion.
Demellier does not honor the lifetime repair guarantee as stated on it's website. My bag has a major tear in the stitching after 1.5 years. I don't recommend.
So this brand is overpriced for what it is. I think it should easily be in the price range of Kate Spade, Ted Baker, Poléne... love those brands personally, their quality is nice for what the price is.
I don't understand the flat, envelope design of this bag. It would definitely look sleek and chic to wear, but only if it were empty. Maybe you could put a phone and a loose credit card in it without distorting the shape too much, but most anything else--a lipstick, sunglasses, earpods--would create an ugly bulge.
