I am a 20 year old who dragged myself through 12 years of primary, middle, and high school with bad to mediocre grades. Then I did two years of city college where I failed more than half my classes and got put on academic probation. I was feeling hopeless and incapable for a while but in light of some realizations and new life goals I know now that I can try harder, I can get As, and I can succeed - it was never impossible, I legit just believed it was. Thanks for the incredibly insightful video, I know what it feels like to doubt the usefulness of your own advice but what you teach in this 7 minute video I’ve never learned in my life so thank you bro. Wishing you all the victory and happiness, with your work ethic and intelligence you’ll go far 👊 Love the cat!
I'm in the same situation. 20 years old, city college, academic probation. Not proud of it obviously, but I've only recently taken to heart that it comes down to daily and hourly decisions and being attentive and reactive to bad habits. I wish you the best as well, just remember that even though it sucks it's not the worst position to find yourself in the world, we still have an open opportunity, though it feels squandered.
You can do it man. I was a lazy fuck because I didn't have issues getting good grades without studying or putting the work in, until I started college. After some really humbling failures, I managed to get comfortable with how much time I needed to spend studying and the correct ways to do it. It all boils down to consistency and being smart about it. Pay attention in classes, learn to take good notes, always review what you learned that day on your corresponding subjects, read the chapter ahead of time, and always ask questions to your teacher when necessary. If you're really shy to ask questions in the classroom, there are working hours your teacher provides for you to do so privately. Avoid cramming as much as possible, use it as a last resort, although it won't be that effective.
Based on the information you provided, it seems that you are struggling with maintaining focus due to stress and fear of failure. Here are some suggestions that may help you overcome these challenges and increase your productivity: Acknowledge and manage your stress: Stress can be a major obstacle to concentration. Take some time to identify the sources of your stress and find healthy ways to manage it. This could include practicing relaxation techniques, engaging in physical exercise, or seeking support from friends, family, or professionals. Set realistic expectations: It's important to set achievable goals and not put too much pressure on yourself. Break down your tasks into smaller, manageable chunks and celebrate your progress along the way. Remember that consistent effort and improvement are more important than perfection. Create a conducive study environment: Ensure that your study environment is free from distractions and promotes focus. Minimize noise, keep your phone away, and create a comfortable and organized workspace. This will help you maintain concentration and avoid unnecessary interruptions. Practice deep work techniques: Deep work involves immersing yourself in a task with full concentration and minimizing distractions. Experiment with different techniques, such as the Pomodoro Technique (working in focused bursts with short breaks), time blocking (allocating specific time slots for different tasks), or using productivity apps that help you stay focused. Develop a consistent study routine: Establishing a regular study routine can help train your mind to focus at specific times. Set a fixed schedule for studying and stick to it as much as possible. Consistency will help create a habit and make it easier for you to get into a focused mindset. Take care of your physical well-being: Proper sleep, nutrition, and exercise are essential for maintaining focus and productivity. Make sure you prioritize your health and incorporate healthy habits into your daily routine. Remember, progress takes time, and it's important to be patient with yourself. Celebrate your achievements along the way and continue to strive for improvement. If you have any specific questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. Good luck on your journey towards success! Best regards, TalkBud
Hi, james, I want to deeply thank you for your commitment to studying and inspiring so many of us to do better. I have a deep problem with not beeing able to focus over periods of time because of stress I feel from the fear of failing and putting up expectations. However your videos really helped not to stress out and just clear my head for 6+ hours of consistent work. I have still a long way to go to reach 12 hours of productive work, but I wouldn't be here without your effort :D Thank you very much, I will surely donate to you when I get to certain level of success.
I summarise as much as I can for ones who wanna get the points fast ##High quality work= time spent * focus ## *Time spent is limited - should focus on how can we work deeply How intense can we work Grades are the consequences and byproducts of how well u work. The systems that produces those amazing grades Plan -reflection-techniques Most important -Consistency and focus By focusing on how well u can focus, we can focus the daily life. outside studying ,the quality of life in general. We gotta put the right inputs (diet ,sleep and exercise )to produce the right outputs. The environment (minimum requirements) what around u to study? ( remove phones, distractions) environment need to be congruent with your goals We need to focus how to improve our skills -tracking how often and how well u study,( on Friday ,weekly check your study plan) Keep that amount of time for constistency to reach to the deepest state of focus . Focus on studying the same time everyday consistently ,stick to the plan, then our body will know ,won’t be any questions. will Procrastinate less. Reduce the amount of friction which we can’t study Streamline the process as much as possible Make sure the distractions come in as little as possible Have the street counter or habit tracker , not to lose the streak . check daily,Keep track of your study routine , keep a heatmap. Make sure that this is our part of our identity , to embody and become proud of , actions will reflect u, this will be the result of who u r Put the hard work if we wanna become better.
just used chatgpt to summarize jame's speech: - High-quality work is a result of the time spent multiplied by the intensity of work. - Grades are a consequence of how well one works, and the goal should be to develop a system that produces good grades. - Consistency and focus are key components of a good study routine. - The environment in which one studies can have a significant impact on productivity. - Improving the skill of focus can be achieved by tracking progress, experimenting with techniques, and increasing the intensity of work over time. - Consistency in studying is important for producing results over a period of time.
As someone struggling with ADHD and finding good coping mechanisms to constructively study well this helped me a ton. I’ve already implemented a few of these into my routine and it’s helped ease me in slowly to deeper focus. I have little discipline when it comes to studying; my mental health is very poor and it has made a huge impact on my academic life. I have such big dreams but feel inadequate; videos like these make me feel like I have some hope for myself to make better habits :)
I've always admired your dedication and devotion and for some time it helped me do better myself, but I still fell behind and now I can't bounce back which made me feel very disappointed in myself. It's been really hard for me to stop procrastinating and stick to a steady and effective study routine, and with each passing day, my dreams seem to become more and more unachievable unless I change. I want to make a promise to work harder from now. You truly are an inspiring person James. Keep up the good work.

I'm realizing that I watched your "How I study for 12 hours" video 2 weeks ago and since then my grades have raised by 5% on average and by thursday I will take 4 tests that I'm well prepared for, and I think I owe a lot of that to you, so thanks.
Hey James, thanks so much for still having those livestreams up, i've been watching the 12hr livestreams for the past two weeks to help me manage my revision and they are so helpful, I've always had a dip in concentration after the first 3 hours of studies but after using the pomodoro technique to study, I must admit I have been very efficient, productive and focused while keeping distractions to a bare minimum! Thanks for that and Keep up the good work and thanks for being an inspiration for so many of us!
I struggle with ADHD but i made it to med school, I've never been good at studying because i have a good memory, but I feel like this video made it very clear what i have to do and how i should change what i do with my free time, thanks a lot God bless
Hey James, I wanted to thank you for how much you changed my life. Now I have all A’s thanks to you. I am still trying to figure out what drives me and still trying to be consistent ,but your old livestreams have really been helping me do that. You have my admiration and thanks. I hope you achieve all your goals and I am overjoyed that you still make videos! :)

Right in time bro, we are about to have our finals this coming Saturday and we have one week to review 3 books and our lab reports alongside it and this really helps, thank you James.
on a somewhat related note regarding the "we have to make sure that this is a part of our identity now". Its something I have never thought about in the lifting community, but its so true. The months I am most consistent are the ones I see myself as a 'gymbro' and its here I see the most progress. I had a friend who worked out on and off for years now and he never gained an impressive physique or notable change, and after I started training myself I found out he never saw himself as a guy who lifts "competitively". He never made a program or looked into different the exercises, he just went gym to have fun and feel good about himself. All the other guys in my class who lifts regularly talk about lifting / show off their physique and its 100% become a part of their personality. Its the same with my friends who study 2-3 hours/day. Its almost all they talk about (the assignments) and they want to show it off as well (how fast/well they cleared an assignment) Thank you for this advice, it will surely help when I go back to school in a few months
honestly such a good video. i realize i'm the type of person to sit in my room for 3 hours with only like 30 minutes of quality focus and it's both draining because i get no work done but also draining because I spend so much time. Just gonna focus on getting into a deep focus for an hour a day and see where that takes me. the log idea is really good because I can track how well I'm being attentive. ugh I need this rn lol
Hi james!! I used to study with your live last year and I wasn’t even interested in studying before that, my life changed when i started studying, and I ended up studying 12 h/d with you!! I got a very good degree and I achieved my dream and started studying architecture in #1 uni in my country (a thing I would’ve never thought I’d be able to achieve) Thank you!
I always found the Pomodoro 20 5 study technique very distracting, because I would just be getting right deep into it around the 20min mark, but watching your live streams I realized how helpful the 50 10 or 60 10 technique is. Before, I would connect around 2 hours of studying and then would probably rest for an hour, or would just never get back to studying, but with your live stream I would easily spend my whole day studying, and enjoy it! One thing I still need to work on is consistency in exercise, diet and sleep.
Hi, I'm studying a Physics degree and you made me realize how my low concentration while studying it's a direct consequence of been a bit messy in my everyday life. Ty for doing such a nice content, you're really helpful.
Embodying the process into your identity is my favourite piece of advice. This goes for anything difficult you'd like to achieve. Great job with this vid.
@@rexklxss13yo When you start a hobby or objective, make the process a part of your identity so that it becomes more personal to you instead of thinking you're just dabbling in it.
i feel like my brain is just hard wired to just distract itself. i always feel like i need something stimulating. this could come in many forms: making the lesson more engaging by using an unconventional format (maybe a video or even a game), or even by being in a "competitive" envorinment where i am reviewing my notes with my friends and we all ask each other questions. even when something is due tomorrow my brain absolutely doesn't wanna pick up the pace and focus T.T kinda hard to study alone but at the same time my mind gets distracted when with others and also my social battery doesn't even last that long. thank u for sharing these tips
The most important thing is to have a specific goal you are working towards and if that goal means enough to you, you will do what is necessary to accomplish it. When i was younger i used to procrastinate a lot and not care if i fail, but now when other people also depend on me doing well and now that i really want to accomplish certain things, studying hard comes naturally and when you do finish such tasks, it is one of the feelings in the world
I am also a level 7 study nerd like yourself, been like this for approx. 5 yrs. I don't have an issue with time, I sit at my chair all day. It is the focus, because I don't give a crap about physics I just can't focus for too long. The key part to staying focussed is loving what you do, don't pick a subject you don't care for. - Dickie
Thank you for being so humble. I find that a lot of people who make study tips videos just end up bragging about their grades, school, job etc. etc. and it's really off-putting. I was a lot more invested in what you had to say because you didn't do that, so thanks :)
Thank you so much for the content you put out there! Was it not for me studying really hard, I wouldn't have been able to get into the best Uni in my country with a scholarship. Your advice is actually appliable and a big reason why I saw improvements was me getting inspiration from you. Tysm James!
No words to describe that how your streams and guides changed many people's routine. And that's particularly insane. Your old streams are still played by many of us including me to study. Hello from India James! Good Morning 07:24 AM IST.
yooo james , youve literally helped me trudge through highschool and help me be focussed. I leterally owe all my grades to you because you somehow motivate me to study better and actually get out of procrastination. Honestly you help me a lot with my studying and honestly changes my outlook of life and school. Usually i used to not care at al but after finding you in my freshman year i can say ive become wayy more rsponsible and even somewhat figured out what career path im going to go. I just wanted to say thanks a lot for helping me even without knowing it.
Great video, absolutely all you need to start getting better and to continue. If anyone reads books, these will help you with studying/work: "Atomic Habits", "Deep Work". The first one is mainly about how consistency and human behavior works and the second one is about actually the whole idea of working focused and improving the habit od studying you have built through consistency
As someone with ADHD its very challenging to be consistent. It's easy to hyper focus especially when you're really into it however to be able to maintain or control that is something I could never do.
as a person with adhd, the "deep working" part was really interesting to me because that is my natural state in studying, and in most activities actually (not saying this is everyone with adhd, some have the exact opposite issue, i think i also got a bit lucky in that aspect). I don't think I could work "shallowly" ig even if I tried, which can be a blessing but also a curse in disguise because my brain doesn't distinguish between productive & non-productive stuff so I could just become hyperfocused on the most useless things and wouldn't be able to get myself to stop really. But the consistency is definitely something valuable to be, my real struggle is just starting with something, the procrastination, and also taking breaks in between. Thankyou for this video, just wanted to share my perspective
Adhd can be such a blessing and a curse but as I get to know and love myself, I now realize how being hyper focussed is one my my greatest strength, we just have to trick our brain into doing what will actually benefit us. Good luck w everything!:)
That’s so interesting! I’m on the other side with my adhd all the work I do is shallow in 10 minute bursts, I’ve always wished for it to be the other way but reading your side was very insightful. I find it really hard to maintain focus for longer than 10 minutes which leads me to thinking I’ve been unproductive etc it comes with a whole hots of problems ://
Bro I just saw 2 of your videos and I wanna say that I love you literally soo much love for you. ❤ The amount of genuineness in the simplicity of all this is relatable so much to such an extent...... I don't know how to express myself properly but huge respect❤❤ ~Love from India 🇮🇳 ❤

James I'm so glad to see you. For a while now I've been meaning to write you a letter but I never did...not sure why. But i'd like to let you know that you have been an extreme inspiration for me for about 3 years now. Unconsciously, or consciously I have been melding my life into what I believe to be something better bc of you. From my job, to lifestyle, to fashion sense. It's funny because i'm not the type to have 'role models' but surely you must be one for me. And for that I say thank you. My life today looks different to what it was last year at this time. I genuinely see you as a friend, parasocially of course. I hope this message gets to you well. And again, thank you
Hey there James! I just wanted to drop how inspiring your dedication is. You're very down to Earth, and are very open as to how 'human' you are. It's a great reminder for me that we all have the capability to work this hard, and actualize our potential. Your example is especially meaningful to me as a person who feels so underwhelmed by their achievements, knowing full well that they have the capability of achieving excellence. I'm a 19 year old University student, studying Physics and Programming with aspirations of getting into MIT. For most of my life I was very complacent in regards to where my life was going. I was raised in poverty and didn't have access to many things growing up. I was a very resentful and cynical teen as a result, but I began to start turning things around late into highschool. I knew from my peers and my performance in school that I had so much latent potential, but it was no one else's responsibility to articulate it except mine. So I busted my ass, enough to get accepted into a UC. Well, now is where the work really begins haha. I knew I had to make a lot of sacrifices to become the person I wanted to be, time in particular. I sometimes feel a bit down, that while my floormates are out socializing and staying up late, I'm in my dorm or at the library studying. But seeing people like you in action is such an inspiration, and it reminds me why I'm doing any of this. I especially resonate with your goal of setting your mother up with a nice house, I strive to do the same :) Keep up the work, you're touching people's lives.
Hey man, good to see you back! Idk what to say but but I think I'll just tell you how grateful I'm to you. This year was tough, struggling in every way possible. And mostly struggling with myself, that's the worse. And when I tried to change I found you, you helped me alot and you are still doing. But I guess changing is not that easy as I thought it would. I actually managed to fail myself in every decision that I ever took and I keep losing to myself and kinda lost trust in myself but I'm not someone who will give up that easily! And watching you gives me strength. My exams are near, pressure is high but I'm not going to loose to myself this time! Watching you not only gives me strength but also brings smile to my dull face during these battle of me and my mind. So, Thank you for everything. And keep up the good work man! Hope you are doing great. And one last thing, say hii to mika.
There's way too many comments for you to read so I doubt you'll get this but, in case you do...On the book The Talent Code, Daniel Coyle touches on an often underestimated productivity/motivation/learning element which is having a hero/exemplar/idol. Having someone to look up to, learn from and perhaps wanting to be like is a powerful and effective way to stay adherent to your goals. Your videos are amazing and I am sure many people here, including myself are benefiting for having your example documented and shared. Some of us want to be like you and, though it may be a lot of pressure, know that it's extremely helpful. Most of us probably don't have ANYONE in our lives who actually sit down and study, much less work it all out and share with the world. Your work is deeply appreciated my friend.
"Atomic habits" isn't anything special if you compare it to enlisting or commissioning into the armed forces. People look at that book with such a special piece of guidance when it has already been common knowledge to those who serve. It comes to show how distant the newer population are from wisdom nowadays.
My daily work routine is as follows: > Stop studying after 8pm + eat diner watching the news + read a paper book at 9pm > Wake up between 7am and 9am + shower + dress up > Start 25/5 Pomodoro with chrome extension + Lay down with closed eyes during breaks thinking about what you just studied > Long break of 30-40min every 4-5 Pomodoro + do house chores or activities with silence to rest your brain > Repeat It is important to have broad subjects in mind like maths, programmation and finance to improve on the long term without school projects. I prefer to use books and research papers rather than google and youtube.
@Theren Well I'm in my second year of uni so, no that isn't uni life. Learn to manage time, I've done well while having time for socialising, trying new things, meeting new people, hobbies etc. That's uni life. Grow up
@theren2486 Pomodoro sounds rly bad and a pussy way of working (no offense btw). The best strategy for the best results I believe is just getting into the right mindset of getting shit done, putting your phone away, and just sitting down for 2-3 hours straight, full focus on what your doing. Afterwards ull find you will feel much better and have accomplished as much as u are capable for the day. A lot of successful people use this method of deep work. Lex Fridman does like 2 or 3 daily which is nuts. Research deep work. Thats how you get the most down for less time and ultimately save your mental health and respect your testosterone if you are a man

Wishing you all the victory and happiness, with your work ethic and intelligence you’ll go far 👊
Love the cat!
Thanks for your feedback
Here are some suggestions that may help you overcome these challenges and increase your productivity:
Acknowledge and manage your stress: Stress can be a major obstacle to concentration.

I summarise as much as I can for ones who wanna get the points fast
##High quality work= time spent * focus ##
*Time spent is limited - should focus on how can we work deeply How intense can we work
Grades are the consequences and byproducts of how well u work.
The systems that produces those amazing grades
Plan -reflection-techniques
Most important -Consistency and focus
By focusing on how well u can focus, we can focus the daily life. outside studying ,the quality of life in general.
We gotta put the right inputs (diet ,sleep and exercise )to produce the right outputs.
The environment (minimum requirements) what around u to study? ( remove phones, distractions) environment need to be congruent with your goals
We need to focus how to improve our skills -tracking how often and how well u study,( on Friday ,weekly check your study plan)
Keep that amount of time for constistency
to reach to the deepest state of focus .
Focus on studying the same time everyday consistently ,stick to the plan, then our body will know ,won’t be any questions. will Procrastinate less.
Reduce the amount of friction which we can’t study
Streamline the process as much as possible
Make sure the distractions come in as little as possible
Have the street counter or habit tracker , not to lose the streak . check daily,Keep track of your study routine , keep a heatmap.
Make sure that this is our part of our identity , to embody and become proud of , actions will reflect u, this will be the result of who u r
Put the hard work if we wanna become better.
thank youuuu
just used chatgpt to summarize jame's speech:
- High-quality work is a result of the time spent multiplied by the intensity of work.
I hope all of you the best of your lives.

All this dudes knowledge went straight to his hair.
on a somewhat related note regarding the "we have to make sure that this is a part of our identity now".
Its almost all they talk about (the assignments) and they want to show it off as well (how fast/well they cleared an assignment)
Thank you for this advice, it will surely help when I go back to school in a few months
honestly such a good video. i realize i'm the type of person to sit in my room for 3 hours with only like 30 minutes of quality focus and it's both draining because i get no work done but also draining because I spend so much time. One thing I still need to work on is consistency in exercise, diet and sleep.

i feel like my brain is just hard wired to just distract itself. i always feel like i need something stimulating. this could come in many forms: making the lesson more engaging by using an unconventional format (maybe a video or even a game), or even by being in a "competitive" envorinment where i am reviewing my notes with my friends and we all ask each other questions.
even when something is due tomorrow my brain absolutely doesn't wanna pick up the pace and focus T.T kinda hard to study alone but at the same time my mind gets distracted when with others and also my social battery doesn't even last that long. thank u for sharing these tips
- Dickie

It's easy to hyper focus especially when you're really into it however to be able to maintain or control that is something I could never do.
have you checked with any professionals about it 😳
I have the same problem along with ocd
as a person with adhd, the "deep working" part was really interesting to me because that is my natural state in studying, and in most activities actually (not saying this is everyone with adhd, some have the exact opposite issue, i think i also got a bit lucky in that aspect).

I especially resonate with your goal of setting your mother up with a nice house, I strive to do the same :)
Keep up the work, you're touching people's lives.
How is it going bro? Still crushing it?
And one last thing, say hii to mika.
can relate on a spiritual level
Wow the intro was perfect. The video was short and sweet. The tips are generally basic, but so complex at the same time XD Many thanks!
You've summarised so well what the book "Atomic Habits" explains thoroughly, I'm impressed! To anyone who has read that yet, I highly recommend it.

did you notice he put up some pages from the book on his wall? hahahah
Currently rereading the book. It is a game changer tbh, and has helped me tremendously in my life. I share that book a lot
"Atomic habits" isn't anything special if you compare it to enlisting or commissioning into the armed forces. People look at that book with such a special piece of guidance when it has already been common knowledge to those who serve.
It comes to show how distant the newer population are from wisdom nowadays.
My daily work routine is as follows:
> Stop studying after 8pm + eat diner watching the news + read a paper book at 9pm
> Wake up between 7am and 9am + shower + dress up
> Start 25/5 Pomodoro with chrome extension + Lay down with closed eyes during breaks thinking about what you just studied
> Long break of 30-40min every 4-5 Pomodoro + do house chores or activities with silence to rest your brain
> Repeat
It is important to have broad subjects in mind like maths, programmation and finance to improve on the long term without school projects.

Thats how you get the most down for less time and ultimately save your mental health and respect your testosterone if you are a man
this video has beautiful ear marks of Atomic Habits and the way you deliver it is calm, structured and engaging. not only is this a guide on studying but also a guide to success in all aspects, the skills are gracefully transferable.

There is always something new to learn and staying up to date with the latest technologies and best practices is critical to success in this field. This video provides some great tips for studying more efficiently, such as setting clear goals, breaking up study sessions, and finding the right study environment. I also appreciate that the video emphasizes the importance of taking breaks and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. These strategies can be applied not only to studying for exams, but also to staying current in the field of software engineering. Overall, it's a helpful and practical video for anyone looking to improve their study habits.
this feels like a linkedin professional comment lol
@@shadowtale123 😂 I’ll tone it down next time
@@shadowtale123 Its a meaningless comment to get crowd.
@@techmentormaria Whats ur linkedin shawty
@@shadowtale123I was thinking moreso AI attempting to produce an authentic body of comments. It's becoming prevalent for a lot of videos nowadays. Notice the barrage of bland headshots profiles that were either scrapped off of yandex or drawn by an AI and unoriginal comments.
Hi James, thank you for all of the hard work that you have put in, you surely have motivated and inspired me to become my best self when it comes to my education. I'm 17 now, maybe I'll come back here in the future and take a look for myself. Anyway, it's been a month since I started studying for the YKS exam held in my country. In the end, the department I want to win is "Genetic Engineering", that is, to study the basis of human beings. Your videos have always inspired me and continue to be, thank you for that. We can't always expect our time or energy to be full, let's just say I don't think so. As a result, the intensity and weight of the work or lessons change day by day. The important thing is to resist it as much as we can. If anyone is reading this, please don't forget to trust yourself.
God sees you as important, after all, he created you thinking that the whole universe would be incomplete without you, so you can feel even more special. I hope your life always goes the way you want, take care of yourself! ❤
James i want to thank you for your streams. ever since i started watching them, i used to struggle to do 4 hours of study and 6 months later, i can do 6 hours or 7 hours of deep work. im excited to see where i'll be in another 6 months or to a year from now. But i also realized that through your streams, i can do well, and i argee with your mindset of building habits, our habits transforms us into who we will be 5 to 10 years down the line. But studying also taught me that good studying and efficient studying takes time. But im making progress, so thats what counts for me!
4h regularly is already a lot
