  • For Snape sympathisers, he was an ambitious and cunning Slytherin hero with a tragic ending. For those who can simply never forgive him, Snape was an unnecessarily cruel teacher who wanted to make everyone’s lives as miserable as his own. Of course it’s a big question, but an important one: was Snape actually a good guy, or a bad guy? Is it even possible to measure? Let’s find out!

I think we can all agree that, regardless of you think of Snape, no one could have played him better than Alan Rickman.

It goes full circle, that's how Harry's father treated Snape. Snape's just dishing out the same treatment to others

People blame Snape for not caring if Harry and James were killed. But, he had no reason whatsoever to give a fig about either of them, but especially James. James was an awful person to him and Dumbledore allowed it, never coming to Snape's defense. Harry he may have had a modicum more care for because he was Lily's son. But, he was also James's. Dumbledore went too far by saying Snape disgusted him. But what really disgusted him was himself as Snape's situation reminded him so completely of his own gruesome error that got Ariana killed. Snape's situation was a painful mirror image to him.

I think the reason why dumbledore says he is disgusted is because he asked if snape could ask for the life of the mother in exchange for that of the child, snape claims he already did, thats the disgusting part, that snape would have delivered Harry to voldermort, a baby to the slaugtherhouse, in exchange for Lily disregarding even that she wouldn't be happy. In this parte dumbledore even recriminates him that he is awful because he doesn't mind the murders of James and Harry so long as he can get lily for himself. While I am unsure if thats what snape wanted I can say thats really imature of him, as a person who was bullied heavily as a child I understand that desire of getting rid of bullies and see them hurt, but as an adult u realize bullies are just problematic but they dont deserve dead. James in spite of all he did was a human being and didnt deserve to be murdered yet Snape cant see past his own desires

First of all dumbeldor is very emotionally manipulating in this scène hé is the one who claim that and when snape answer he cut him before he Can finish i mean siriously snape was in no position to offert an exchage all what he asked Voldemort is to spare Lily and nothing else and this in itself was a huge risk all what he wanted is her to bé safe nothing more

He’s a good guy, with experience from both sides, he was a victim of bullying, think that’s why he went to the dark side, I don’t think he necessarily bullied the students, but teach them life lessons toughen them up upon the event they may get bullied.

Snape soon heard about Neville's boggart and treated him even worse than he usually did.

While Severus Snape certainly had his flaws, it's important to acknowledge his positive qualities. Snape displayed tremendous bravery by working as a double agent throughout the series, risking his life to protect Harry and the wizarding world from Voldemort's reign of terror. His dedication to Dumbledore's plan, despite his personal loyalties, showcases a deep commitment to the greater good.
Additionally, Snape's traumatic and troubled past influenced his actions. His difficult childhood and unrequited love for Lily Potter impacted his emotional state and decisions. While his feelings for Lily might not have been overtly romantic in canon, they still represent a powerful form of love a connection that shaped his motivations and choices. Mind you what few fans actually consider is that if Snape was this irredeemably malevolent person he could have been spiteful at Lily's rejection of his friendship and just let Voldemort do what he wanted and like Voldemort said he'd have been living the high life as his trusted general.
Snape's flaws, such as his bitterness and favoritism towards Slytherin house, should not be overlooked. However, these imperfections make him a more relatable and human character. He wasn't a traditional hero, but his internal struggles and eventual redemption demonstrate growth and change.
Again Snape's not a saint, he had his issues which the fandom can't seem to wrap their minds around that the man was broken but rose above it to make the right decision and rectify his mistakes.

1:55 So Snape hated Neville simply for being alive. That is even more callous!
