If your talking about when they became hokage, its only 4 hokages since he died before tsunade took place. But if your talking about those people who were gonna be hokage but not yet, you gotta include naruto since he became 7th and maybe konohamaru will be 8 which makes him 8th
Well there’s a time constraint and a need for chakra conservation. I guess Kishimoto balanced it that way. Naruto with immense chakra knows maybe 20 jutsu and Kakashi with one of the worst chakra reserves knows over 1000.
He was originally supposed to be the strongest Shinobi in history. That fight with Orochimaru was supposed to show that he was stronger than the first and second combined while in his 70s... later in the series though they had to scale up the fights and the power and just kind of forgot about him. It's just the Classic kind of thing they didn't have the entire Naruto story mapped out from the very beginning, and every new threat has to be at least 2x the power of the previous one.

Jiraya himself implyied minato was the strongest shinobi of all time. As hiruzens studen and minatos teacher he of all people would know how they compare to each other prime for prime.
Hiruzen became Hokage the legit way, hard work, he doesnt have a kekkei genkai, no unique powers, he is just a baller ass Ninja, old school. Personally I think they overdid it with character unique abilities in the show, I would have liked more characters that are powerful in the same way that Hiruzen is.
I agree. Later it became a couple of God lvl ninja running everything. I would have rather seen a few characters improve upon their own family styles and techniques instead of most using the same 2 jutsu from the beginning and the rest being basically indestructible. We can assume that each generation is expected to help perfect their family techniques. I would have loved to see what all the Nara, Aburame, and the dog family could have done with some better writing.

And We could keep the main story the same, so we wouldnt lose any of the flashy stuff that you think fondly about almost 15 years later, and some flashy stuff makes sense, like the 8 gates, since it has massive drawbacks when used, and is very hard to learn it, but as is the case with Naruto, something that had well thought-out rules and conditions during the start of naruto was just forgotten about/ignored later....like how chakra used to be a limited resource, to just spam whatever justus who cares...... Keeping the rules of the powersystem and developing a more strategy based way of fighting as the norm, it would have improved everything tbh. wouldve improved the boring fights greatly and added an extra layer of possibilities even during the truly retarded levels of power we saw towards end ofthe series. I think they wanted to go the strategy/deceptive/ninja-like path at first, and then they just lost it along the way I guess. and ofc, Perfect Susanoo needs to not be a thing.....and whatever that wood buddah thing was.....Why does anyone care about the bijuu when there are justsus like that.....so fkn stupid xD
I think story lines like the Hyuga getting the eye that that one guy stole back would have been a good filler. Delving into each family style would have been interesting as well. As far as chakra goes, there was never much explanation as to why one guy had an immense pool and the next guy doesn't. I liked that Lee had to work so hard for the gates. It made it more believable. Sadly they used the term "genius" too often. If you're going to be a badass, I'd like to see that you trained harder/smarter than the rest and that's why. There were soooo many possibilities for good stories but they got wasted on that infinite dream crap. Also, whoever sells kunai much be rich AF . They use them like machine guns and never hit anything. If you can throw 300 kunai and not hit a guy who is just running, you should still be in school. They were also bad about hyping something up and then not delivering. Like root/foundation were supposed to just be badass but none of the members stood out.

Having larger than average chakra can be counted as a ''special power'' i guess. But all that other stuff you mentioned can just be shortened to ''He is skilled'' and that isnt a special power at all.
People sleep on the fact that Hiruzen was 70 and kept up with Orochimaru. That speaks to his intelligence as a fighter, his skill, and his chakra control. Orochimaru pretty much said if Hiruzen was ten years younger he would have been killed. Third Hokage was a monster.
The Third shouldn't have even been Hokage when Orochimaru attacked, he subbed in to be Hokage after already severing a full Hokage term when the 4th got clipped
Not to mention he couldnt find a suitable replacement for him to retire because he wasnt able to find Jaraiya and Tsunade wasnt his choice for the fact that she was a drinker and gambler.
Fourth didn't get clipped, he illogically sacrificed himself. Even Kushina complained about why he was using the Shiki Fuin when he had so many other jutsu he could have used to seal the Kyubi. PS. I know you prob gonna say but Kurama stabbed though, yes he did, but that to was because of Minato's illogical decision to use Shiki Fuin, as the Kyubi visibly shrunk in size after he used that jutsu, which caused the chains that Kushina was using to subdue the Kyubi to become loosened enough for him to move his body.
@@assassin3003 if you watch the original series when Ebisu finds Jaraiya they say they have been searching for him to get him to come back to the leaf(presumably to become Hokage). That was just before the 3rd round of the Chunin Exams where 3rd Hokage died. I was just saying Jaraiya was a wandering Ninja at the time
Abongile Peterson they needed a way to et minato out of the show. He was way too strong for anyone to fuck with him. They would’ve had to make another 2ng hokage esque scene where minato sacrifices himself, even then it would have to be 7 pains and even then minato is overpowered
Hiruzen was a great character that was designed for Naruto before Naruto was made into Dragon Ball. The problem is that the fight Orochimaru vs Hiruzen was showing the old Naruto fights - Ninja fights, rater than the bijuudama measuring contest. It was similar to the fight with Zabuza in that even the most powerful ninja were still human and could be beaten by inferior but better prepared opponent. Zabuza was a jounin capable of evading and killing hunter nin squads going after him, yet he was not untouchable - team seven genins were able to surprise him and interfere in his fight with Kakashi. There were no power levels in plans at the time. Even the so called absolute defenses shown in chunin exam were shown to be beatable. There was no such thing as ultimate ninja unbeatable by those below him. Unfortunately the series while gaining popularity and wider audience seems to have lost this ideal. The fights started to be about these super powerful opponents and gaining the power to beat them. I am not saying that it became bad, it just lost the charm of the initial arcs. It simply became more generic. The change was not immediate, it was very slow and almost unnoticeable except for the war at the end where the thin veneer of the characters being ninja was lost. They simply became magical super soldiers fighting on an open battlefield.

@@JadeIsBunny That was actually a very wise decision of him to use the same elements to counter each of the enemie's justsus, because it was the safest. If you fight fire with fire per se both techniques are bound to neutralize each other or at least stop somewhere halfway their normal reach. That's why when Kakashi fought Zabuza he used the same water dragon jutsu, the same happened during Sasuke's fight with his brother and it's proven that two techniques of the same level and chakra nature neutralize each other, so the Third actually did well - pretty smart tactic. I mean you cant really stop a mud stream(or whatever that jutsu was called) can you :D Unless you use some sort of a wall, which is an even more defensive jutsu and creates rubble and shit all over the battlefield which could later cost your life the same way it saved you in the first place :D

Onoki did the same thing. It's not that he's old by trickery, not too many ninjas were strong enough to kill him directly and he didn't play in the field that much anymore. Then comes Orochimaru and he dies.
Hiruzen: Isn't a jinchuriki. Doesn't have any dojutsu. Doesn't even really have a giant summon like most people- And definitely doesn't have any Senju cell/Orochimaru experiment regen hacks- Yet he mastered every element, is powerful enough to launch, if not bijuu power-level attacks, then at least bijuu-sized attacks off on his own, and as an old man who did nothing but tire himself out until he got the courage to fight seriously, simultaneously sealed reanimated Hashirama (You know, the guy who kept the nine-tails as a pet and was his master), Tobirama (You know, the guy who created almost every OP jutsu in the series and was also his master), and crippled Orochimaru (You know, the guy who has more lives than a whole litters worth of cats that all have voldemort style holcruxes, and fought a four-tailed cloak Naruto with literally no hands, and was also his student.) Honestly, as far as relatable yet cool characters go, I kind of rate Hiruzen up there with Kakashi as one of my favorites. Just kind of a shame we didn't get to see him actually do as much before he basically killed himself trying to protect LITERALLY EVERYONE- He's just one of those characters that I can't realistically see many people disliking-

(Gamabunta, gamakichi, katsuyu, basically most high level summons tend to be close to the size of a mountain or have crazy special abilities, or both) Enma from what we saw, is just a big monkey that can become a big stick that changes in size.

Orochimaru had Kimimaro helping him with the Kazekage. Remember that both Oro and Kabuto said that the invasion of Konoha would have gone completely different had Kimimaro been healthy.
Hiruzen was the best ninja based on the concept of ninja of classic Naruto, he knows hundreds of jutsus and is a skilled of every sort of jutsu(He seals, summon, use ALL of nature styles and wields a weapon).He is the only living kage that we see in classic so when naruto said "I wanna be hokage" that's what we imagined in power level and, by the flashbacks that hiruzen has in the fight, in meaning and purpose At the end of shippuden the concept of "powerful ninja" is absolutely different with kishimoto even generating excuses for why the 1st and 2nd were nerfed and how they were more like susanoo and bijuu in power level and making it look like hiruzen was week in comparison. but hiruzen is the true shinobi, the others are more like the Z-fighters from dragon ball
Anime wise , i dont think people remember when a much younger Hiruzen used the Monkey King staff to push the 9 tails out of the village.....while he himself didnt budge at all... that in itself is a MAJOR feat of strength and control.
In the manga he didn't do that confirmed, that's anime only, and yes, it matters. What happened in the manga is he went "fine I'll beat it down again" essentially like it was a regular occurrence, then fought it till it was out of the village, was ready to keep beating it's ass, then the 4th hokage came to take over. The 3rd is the strongest kage, rivaled only by the 1st. Then the 2nd, Hanzo, etc are in the next tier
Hiruzen felt a certain love for his old student, wich is why he couldn’t kill orochimaru. Taking away orochimarus strenght proved more difficult than just killing him tough. That is why hiruzen sort of lost in the end.

Death of 3rd was like fall of Allmight. He was the shield that protected the village and gave people hope. He was the goal that Naruto aspired to all his life cause as far as Naruto is concerned, hokage means everything that 3rd was. Someone who is loved and respected by everyone, someone who protects and manages the whole village and at the same time find the time to check if an orphan kid whom no one seemingly liked was doing all right. When we hear the title of 'god of shinobi' we just think of his dominating power, but there is another aspect of god that we forget. A personal god, someone who loves us, is caring, wise and forgiving.. someone who nurtures us into our best selves and wants us to be happy. When Sarutobi died, it was a personal loss for every life he touched, the whole village and probably more.
Yet Third Hokage never got mentioned again. The guy he sacrificed himself is still alive and well. Still doing evil shit. You have been consumed by nostalgia. The title of shinobi god belongs to the oen and only Hashirama
I Love Everything has Hirama in other words Naruto. Sarutobi would be who John the Baptist was to Jesus. He paved the way for Naruto and was the perfect example for him to follow. There’s no Naruto without Sarutobi.

@Itachi Uchiha Not really, Naruto - like any other aspiring human - would be driven by someone who makes a direct impact on their life, whom, they have admiration for - this is the direct connection between sarutobis influence and narutos drive to become just like him. This is how most humans operate in reality and makes a lot of sense in the naruto narrative - it would make less sense for naruto to strive to become a figure which he had never encountered regardless of their reputation. Sarutobi ticks all the boxes, I dont think any other character had that much influence over Naruto as a role model.
Not only that, but also, those students Hiruzen trained? THE THREE LEGENDARY SANIN! Naruto? Can't protect Kawaki from Isshiki, can't train Konohamaru to be his successor, and can't even relate to his own son.
@@thevintagevaluesexperience4302 tbh i think 3rd hokage is still overrated no matter how you see it. he allowed danzo to live. danzo and 2 useless elder made bad decisions. stole shisui eyes taht could have saved uchiha and konoha as a whole and shisui was considered to be slightly more talented than itachi and we saw what a sick and almost blind itachi could do. imagine what konoha could be when we had shisui and itachi still in village. plus if konoha had fugaku he could have easily tamed the 9 tail if obito unleashed it in the village. danzo also leaked the information that naruto had the tail beast. 3rd hokage just had to kill danzo and stand his ground against the 2 useless elder. uchiha clan could be alive. itachi, shisui, fugaku, sasuke. would still be inside the village all without danzo, so just imagine that. but 3rd hokage was weak. just kill danzo, you could have all of them alive in the same village. wonder which mfer would start a war with konoha with all that talent. and minato could beat orochimaru in a heartbeat.
I just love Hiruzen as a character no matter what. He is the most human of the Hokage, he is as empathetic as he was a realist, he was contradictory but that's how people are... we tell ourselves we have all the resolve to live by a code, "the will of fire", but in the end life leaves us with choices that are against our will. Likewise Hiruzenmade a few crucial mistakes, especially with letting his student and rival get away with atrocities. but in the he did everything he could for the good of his village between the limits of his empathy and his goals as Hokage.

@@MrSub132 If you fight two of the strongest kage when they're at 80%, yes they're nerfed, but they're above 100% of each of them, and orochimaru was there too who brought a specific weapon that counters enma, who is one of hiruzen's strongest assets, and the 3rd hokage went in old and without any knowledge. And orochimaru said if it was 10 years ago, he wouldn't have had any chance of winning at all.

Hiruzen was a hokage blinded by his friendship with Danzo to stop him from doing what he was doing. He was incredibly indecisive, and instead of reasoning with the uchiha, he just put his trust into danzo because he didn't know what to do. If he restricted danzo of his power, it would have been for the better.

The sad part to me is that he was so under represented in the second part. He is my favorite hokage if not my favorite character outside of gui and i remember how hyped i was to see the first hokage level fight in naruto with him. He fought 2 kage & orochimaru ,,, GOAT!

Hiruzen is very underrated. This man was the Youngest to take on the Hokage title at his age. Had all chakra natures, fought thru 3 great Shinobi Wars, trained the 3 sanin, put fear in Danzo and fought Orichimaru passively at 72. He knew all Jutsus in Konoha even the forbidden ones. He’s definitely a stronger Hokage than Tobirama, Tsunade, and Kakashi
As a fan of naruto... You will really aporeciate the 3rd hokage and would label him very strong....sadly..great story of naruto ended when naruto shippuuden kicked in..... From great ninja series,it suddenly turned into naruto ball z bullshit...the reason why power scaling become so fucked up and logic and techniques ofa became obselete due to ahippuuden shit.

Minato was the weaker one of the two by far. Minato was struggling against a 12 years ago obito who was 12 years weaker. Hiruzen literally was fighting the kyuubi casually, and the way he talked, made it seem like he's done in time and time again.
He let Naruto run around as a kid. He let Naruto learn in a natural way through frustrations, expressions, and failures. I believe without Hiruzen, Naruto would have the strong values which make him such a great character

When Minato died, all the other village had every opportunity to invade the leaf but all the other nations didn’t because of Hiruzen being Hokage again. Only two people that all the other nations feared were Madara Uchiha & Hashirama Senju. My rankings are: 1.Hashirama/Madara 2.Hiruzen Sarutobi 3.Tobirama Senju
Mark minato is top 10. The lead had too many strong clans and individuals but they don’t have that global scale impact compared to the top 3 I mentioned

I recently just got into Naruto after the first season or two when I was a kid, back in 2002 now I’m 21 in 2019 😂 but I’m in season 4 now of the original series and I noticed these same things as well when watching the 3rd Hokage. As an old man, who smoked and for the most part appeared to just be a teacher and leader instead of training and due to his old age was STILL able to fight off two previous Hokage who I was told as the audience that they were two of the most powerful shinobi and his old student Orochimaru who is powerful on his own knowing so many forbidden jutsu. Yes he was getting beat up during their fight at the arena but honestly he was just defending and countering all of their powerful combined attacks rather than going on the offensive and I was still amazed at his skill and prowess in combat. Then once he finally went on the offensive and started bringing it to Orochimaru, I got hella excited! I’m obviously really late on the Naruto party and I know Shippuden brings it up a whole new level that I’m still trying to prepare for. I’m glad I could see this video and many more in this community
Hiruzen as a old man was still stronger than the current Kage of that time apparently eg Ay (has bijuu chakra levels), Gaara’s dad, Oonoki (who was able to one-shot 25 wood clones using Susanoo with Particle style), possibly Yagura (who is a perfect jinchuuriki)

Hiruzen's bond with Orochimaru is pretty deep. Hiruzen and Orochimaru shared a similarity of being a genius they do have the similarity of knowing many jutsus as possible. Hiruzen wanted Orochimaru to succeed him but Orochimaru did not care about the Will of Fire. Also I didn't know Asuma was Hiruzen's son. Asuma Sarutobi. Also Hiruzen reminds me of Sun Wukong it could be the massive staff he wielded and that he's got Monkey King Enma summon.
There is no doubt that Hiruzen was a Genius Shinobi... but he was a crappy leader. He let Danzo destroy the Uchiha and pretty set up every problem during Naruto because he was too weak to deal with the insubordination and the myopic destructiveness. Basically, Hiruzen was weak where it counted as far as being Hokage.
I almost agree with you. The same kindness that Hiruzen showed to people who didn't deserve it is the same kindness he showed Naruto. Without Hiruzen and Iruka, Naruto would have become a Gaara, and the whole world would have ultimately fallen into the hands of Kaguya. I think that Hiruzen was also a great leader because of this. I think the darkness that existed in Konoha because of Hiruzen (Danzo and the Uchiha rebellion) pale in comparison to the darkness that could have existed in the village had Hiruzen not been so kind. Danzo, though he wanted to overthrow Hiruzen, respected him since Danzo attempted an assassination and all Hiruzen did was forgive him. I'm not saying that Hiruzen's character is realistic, but I think he is one of those characters that makes bad people good and good people better. Like having Orochimaru working for the village rather than out of the village after Naruto Shippuden. Having Danzo working for the village rather than out of the village. That sort of thing.

If he didn’t make the call to kill the Uchiha civil war would have definitely broke out. Not to mention Danzo and Hiruzen worked hand and hand in building the leaf village as it was. Danzo did all the dirty work to maintain his Hokages image(of course Danzo had his own agenda) but the fact is they operated the way any real government does. Real life parallels like that one in Naruto make it hands down one of the best anime’s of all time.
Well if you think about it, and wanna bring real life into it, its no different than how Obama was treated after Bush. Or any president really. Most of the time, you are busy dealing with a mess that made by the last guy. You cant just clean everything up on your own although you are expected. 3rd Hokage didnt cause alot of the problems you are talking about they were already set in mention before him. Yes, he didnt take the best actions but I give him the benefit of the doubt, i think ultimately his heart was in the right place.
They had a perfect plan (using Shisui), but Danzo ruined it on his own. Attacking the Uchiha without cause (you can't prove what Itachi confessed) would've been the perfect excuse they needed to destroy the leaf. The only thing Hiruzen is guilty of is not killing Danzo after the fact but you can't hold the destruction of the Uchiha against him because there was no way he could've known better.
Along with his enormous powers as a shinobi, he also had the wisdom of his age. Deadly combination. Would like to see great fights featuring a younger Hiruzen and Tobirama

Shikamaru's father), some of the legendary ninjas from the other villages. And what about all the Ninja wars? Boruto is okay, I guess. But it would be awesome to have an arc or two that looks back and give us some more details before Naruto! 😱
@@mhdamn3169 He absolutely would. Enma destroyed reanimated Hashirama and Tobirama in hand to hand combat at the same time, and was even able casually push the full power 9 tails out of the village. Meanwhile, the strongest path of Pain was completely unable to control less than half of the 9 tails. The dog summon isn't doing much against Enma.

"as quick and strong as ever, I see" etc. They were also able to land quite a few attacks on Hiruzen, who's stated to be the strongest of the 5 kage even at his old age. In order to do so they'd have to be kage level. Now I'm not saying reanimated Hashirama and Tobirama were anywhere close to how strong they were in their prime, but they have to be at least kage level, and the fact that they got tossed by one summon is very impressive.
Favorite Hokage, in my opinion he took on a huge responsibility in his era and is, as the title suggests, underrated! Plus his summon Enma is equally gangsta.

You missed some other points about Hiruzen. He's not only one of the strongest shinobi ever, but also an amazing leader, and most of Konoha's success is owed to his leadership. He's the only adult in the room basically. He mentored more powerful shinobi than all other Hokage. Most of all, he's chill AF.
People underrate the 3rd? Did they watch the same show? He stayed hokage from his prime all the way to old age unlike his predecessors and even those after him. His predecessors retired early to name him hokage if you remember the flashback where both Tobirama and Hashirama give him the title and they are not even old yet... They fully recognize Hiruzen as being better then them. He was a capable ninja and even capable village leader. His death was very significant to the narrative because they said it shifted the balance of power between the villages. It pretty much saying Tsunade is a poor stand-in, a down grade. It's really all just set up for Naruto to become his true successor (besides Minato). Not to mention his fight vs the 1st, 2nd, and Orochimaru is probably one of the best in the entire series. I've rewatched that episode so many times.

Old Hiruzen being superior to Minato doesn't make sense because a younger and stronger Hiruzen could barley do anything against the 9 Tails while Minato was capable of sealing it away. The statement for Ay's speed being equal to Minato is contradicted by the statement of Minato having "Unparalleled Godlike Speed."

Great video. Completely changed my mind. I would have ranked Hiruzen squarely below Minato, but I really forgot or missed a lot of these smaller feats that when examined suggest otherwise.

Absolutely not. "Kage level" is tough to claim as a feat considering the difference between Ay, the Raikage and Mei, the Mizukage. In Seth's previous videos, he describes the war-arch Mizukage as fodder, and I pretty much agree. He and SwagKage, another awesome UA-camr, also state that Zabuza could supersede the Mizukage. I'm with you; calling anyone, especially Hashirama, "kage level" is both vague and an understatement considering everything that he shows in the manga and anime. He's basically a demigod, if Kaguya and Hagoromo are considered "gods."

My whole thing about hiruzen is that I never understood why people hate him because he didn’t throw away his hokage responsibilities to be a full time baby sitter/father to naruto ignoring all of hiruzen feats. Then on the other hand you have jiriya being praised for the best step father of all time as nobody pays attention to how he treated nagato and the others. Jiriya merely fostered nagato at best and taught him the bare minimum to survive and was like yup see ya you can go and fight whoever now while jiriya wonders off to do some Pervy shit. Knowing nagato possessed the rennigan and would’ve been one of the most powerful forces known to the shinobi world if he mastered his abilities. Instead nagato ended up getting jumped by jiriyas old pall hanzo forcing nagato to use a technique his body wasn’t prepared for paralyzing him for life and fueled his path of hatred and revenge leading up to the destruction of konoha itself. This was honestly the biggest mistake jiriya ever made that no one talks about and one of the biggest mistakes made by anyone in the series ultimately costing jiriya his life and many others. If jiriya would’ve brought nagato to the village to stay and had both nagato and naruto to defend the village I don’t believe handling anybody else would’ve been much of an issue besides madara and the whole plot would’ve been different.
I think the reputation came from Kishimoto powercreeping things up by the end of Naruto. When you get to Madara, he's summoning comets and his rival Hashirama is pulling thousand arm wood statues, or Obito using Truth Seeking balls that obliterate anything they touch, pseudo Dragon Ball Z levels of power. At the time of writing the fight between Hiruzen and Orichimaru and the 1st and 2nd Hokage, I don't think he planned to scale up the attacks and abilities to the point that they ended up at, so by comparison Hiruzen doesn't look so impressive with his fight against Orochimaru, hence the reputation. We got a bit of it at then end when he pulls out all 5 core elemental chakaras in spite of not having Rinnegan or any special bloodline that would give reason for him doing so. After that he sadly got thrown to the side, not really doing too much else. I think if Kishimoto explored him properly, he would give him feats that make him look as impressive as those done at the end of the of the series.
The power scaling definitely got out of hand. I think that wooden golem Hashirama made was stated to be equal to full powered Kurama but that 1000 armed buddha statue was over the top. I'm also not a big fan of Susanoo because it didn't make sense for eyes to create a warrior out of chakra

Maybe considering more thing that may have stopped the reanimated kage assault may take a bit of certainty out of your arguments but still not be game changing completely or pivotal. He was also responsible for the downfall of the Uchiha, he never stood up for himself with the elders he broke his promise to protect Sasuke and Naruto and died without any regrets even know that he messed up so much before he passed away.
Naruto Explained there was no other option to stop the Uchiha. He tried talking. Danzo pretty much killed their only hope Shisui. If anything it’s tobirama fault that the Uchiha incident happened for putting them there and making them feel like they don’t belong. And he was dead when sasuke left so he didn’t break any promise. 🙃
I know this is old but...The Sharingan doesn't grant ninjas access to changes in chakra nature, that's a big misconception. A Sharingan user can only copy jutsu that he/she has the skillset do perform them. If one only has Fire style and finds themselves facing an enemy with Water style, they won't be able to copy them. The average Jonin only have access to 2 changes in chakra nature, meanwhile Kakashi has all of them. That's why he copied over 1000 jutsu and was feared as the "Copy Ninja".

Well, in one of the novels she's apparently confirmed to be the second best Taijutsu master in the Leaf after Rock Lee. And while there are no feats to back that up, there's also no reason not to believe it. So if the novels are considered canon, there's your answer :)

Yes, Neji is included in that statement as being above Tenten in Taijutsu. But he's dead, so currently he's not that strong xD Anyway, Tenten has no feats whatsoever, that's what I'm saying. The only things we know about her from the manga are that: - she has really good aim, so her attack are probably hard to dodge; - she's part of Team Guy, so we can infer that she's used to sparring with Lee and Neji, aka two Taijutsu beasts with vastly different skillsets (one focuses on speed and power, the other on technique and dodging); - she lost to Temari; - she helped Neji develop his Rotation move; - she fought a clone of herself and won; - she has a decent amount of chakra, since she was implied to have taken out Kakuzu's masks with that elemental fan. There's nothing telling us that Tenten is weak. She just has pretty much 0 relevance to the plot and is rarely shown by Kishimoto. By that logic, both Izuna and Kakashi's father are weak because we have no feats from them. With characters like these, all we can do is go by statements imo.
I think he was the longest to be in a position of Hokage. And no one dares to think of waging war on Konoha cos of him. That shows a lot of respect from other villages cos they know how great of a Shinobi he is.
He was ONE of the reasons people weren't that inclined to fight a head on war with Konoha. At various stages of his reign, he could call upon the services of shinobi like the sannin, sakumo, Minato and then much later kakashi and gai. Not to mention the uchiha clan, which is the most feared clan in the elemental nations and a jinchuriki of the most powerful tailed beast in kushina. Hiruzen was powerful and revered rightly for his ninja prowess but attributing others' fear of konoha solely to him is a whole lotta wank.

Hashirama vs Heruzin, I think, is very big contention and fair enough too. I don't think Heruzin would beat or tie Madara when Heruzin did. I think it's less about skill and more about jutsu in general. Heruzin was probably the most versatile Ninja no doubt, but Hashirama had some insane jutsu (plus the regen and wood style) that was perfect for countering madara (and the Nine tails) in their final fight.
There's no probably. Hiruzen is without a doubt the most versatile Ninja. He was stated to be a Taijutsu, and Genjutsu master, and obviously knows at least some Fuinjutsu, as he used the Reaper Death seal. He's stated to have mastered every Ninjutsu in the Hidden Leaf, aside from family techniques, and Kekkai Genkai techniques, he can summon Enma, who in the hands of Hiruzen was capable of holding back the Kyuubi. He has, at least all 5 Nature Transformations. It's truly sad that we don't have more on this Legendary Shinobi.

Well there’s a time constraint and a need for chakra conservation. I guess Kishimoto balanced it that way. Naruto with immense chakra knows maybe 20 jutsu and Kakashi with one of the worst chakra reserves knows over 1000.

He was originally supposed to be the strongest Shinobi in history. That fight with Orochimaru was supposed to show that he was stronger than the first and second combined while in his 70s... later in the series though they had to scale up the fights and the power and just kind of forgot about him. It's just the Classic kind of thing they didn't have the entire Naruto story mapped out from the very beginning, and every new threat has to be at least 2x the power of the previous one.

I agree. Later it became a couple of God lvl ninja running everything. I would have rather seen a few characters improve upon their own family styles and techniques instead of most using the same 2 jutsu from the beginning and the rest being basically indestructible. We can assume that each generation is expected to help perfect their family techniques. I would have loved to see what all the Nara, Aburame, and the dog family could have done with some better writing.

And We could keep the main story the same, so we wouldnt lose any of the flashy stuff that you think fondly about almost 15 years later, and some flashy stuff makes sense, like the 8 gates, since it has massive drawbacks when used, and is very hard to learn it, but as is the case with Naruto, something that had well thought-out rules and conditions during the start of naruto was just forgotten about/ignored later....like how chakra used to be a limited resource, to just spam whatever justus who cares......
Keeping the rules of the powersystem and developing a more strategy based way of fighting as the norm, it would have improved everything tbh. wouldve improved the boring fights greatly and added an extra layer of possibilities even during the truly retarded levels of power we saw towards end ofthe series. I think they wanted to go the strategy/deceptive/ninja-like path at first, and then they just lost it along the way I guess.

I think story lines like the Hyuga getting the eye that that one guy stole back would have been a good filler. Delving into each family style would have been interesting as well. As far as chakra goes, there was never much explanation as to why one guy had an immense pool and the next guy doesn't. I liked that Lee had to work so hard for the gates. It made it more believable. Sadly they used the term "genius" too often. If you're going to be a badass, I'd like to see that you trained harder/smarter than the rest and that's why. There were soooo many possibilities for good stories but they got wasted on that infinite dream crap.
Also, whoever sells kunai much be rich AF . They use them like machine guns and never hit anything. If you can throw 300 kunai and not hit a guy who is just running, you should still be in school. They were also bad about hyping something up and then not delivering. Like root/foundation were supposed to just be badass but none of the members stood out.

Abongile Peterson they needed a way to et minato out of the show. He was way too strong for anyone to fuck with him. They would’ve had to make another 2ng hokage esque scene where minato sacrifices himself, even then it would have to be 7 pains and even then minato is overpowered
Hiruzen was a great character that was designed for Naruto before Naruto was made into Dragon Ball. The problem is that the fight Orochimaru vs Hiruzen was showing the old Naruto fights - Ninja fights, rater than the bijuudama measuring contest. It was similar to the fight with Zabuza in that even the most powerful ninja were still human and could be beaten by inferior but better prepared opponent. Zabuza was a jounin capable of evading and killing hunter nin squads going after him, yet he was not untouchable - team seven genins were able to surprise him and interfere in his fight with Kakashi. There were no power levels in plans at the time. Even the so called absolute defenses shown in chunin exam were shown to be beatable. There was no such thing as ultimate ninja unbeatable by those below him.
Unfortunately the series while gaining popularity and wider audience seems to have lost this ideal. The fights started to be about these super powerful opponents and gaining the power to beat them. I am not saying that it became bad, it just lost the charm of the initial arcs. It simply became more generic. The change was not immediate, it was very slow and almost unnoticeable except for the war at the end where the thin veneer of the characters being ninja was lost. They simply became magical super soldiers fighting on an open battlefield.

If you fight fire with fire per se both techniques are bound to neutralize each other or at least stop somewhere halfway their normal reach. That's why when Kakashi fought Zabuza he used the same water dragon jutsu, the same happened during Sasuke's fight with his brother and it's proven that two techniques of the same level and chakra nature neutralize each other, so the Third actually did well - pretty smart tactic. I mean you cant really stop a mud stream(or whatever that jutsu was called) can you :D Unless you use some sort of a wall, which is an even more defensive jutsu and creates rubble and shit all over the battlefield which could later cost your life the same way it saved you in the first place :D

Honestly, as far as relatable yet cool characters go, I kind of rate Hiruzen up there with Kakashi as one of my favorites. Just kind of a shame we didn't get to see him actually do as much before he basically killed himself trying to protect LITERALLY EVERYONE-

In the manga he didn't do that confirmed, that's anime only, and yes, it matters.
What happened in the manga is he went "fine I'll beat it down again" essentially like it was a regular occurrence, then fought it till it was out of the village, was ready to keep beating it's ass, then the 4th hokage came to take over.
The 3rd is the strongest kage, rivaled only by the 1st.
Then the 2nd, Hanzo, etc are in the next tier

Sarutobi ticks all the boxes, I dont think any other character had that much influence over Naruto as a role model.

I just love Hiruzen as a character no matter what. He is the most human of the Hokage, he is as empathetic as he was a realist, he was contradictory but that's how people are... we tell ourselves we have all the resolve to live by a code, "the will of fire", but in the end life leaves us with choices that are against our will. Likewise Hiruzenmade a few crucial mistakes, especially with letting his student and rival get away with atrocities. but in the he did everything he could for the good of his village between the limits of his empathy and his goals as Hokage.

And orochimaru said if it was 10 years ago, he wouldn't have had any chance of winning at all.

He’s definitely a stronger Hokage than Tobirama, Tsunade, and Kakashi

He let Naruto run around as a kid. He let Naruto learn in a natural way through frustrations, expressions, and failures. I believe without Hiruzen, Naruto would have the strong values which make him such a great character

I recently just got into Naruto after the first season or two when I was a kid, back in 2002 now I’m 21 in 2019 😂 but I’m in season 4 now of the original series and I noticed these same things as well when watching the 3rd Hokage. As an old man, who smoked and for the most part appeared to just be a teacher and leader instead of training and due to his old age was STILL able to fight off two previous Hokage who I was told as the audience that they were two of the most powerful shinobi and his old student Orochimaru who is powerful on his own knowing so many forbidden jutsu. Yes he was getting beat up during their fight at the arena but honestly he was just defending and countering all of their powerful combined attacks rather than going on the offensive and I was still amazed at his skill and prowess in combat. Then once he finally went on the offensive and started bringing it to Orochimaru, I got hella excited! I’m obviously really late on the Naruto party and I know Shippuden brings it up a whole new level that I’m still trying to prepare for. I’m glad I could see this video and many more in this community
Hiruzen as a old man was still stronger than the current Kage of that time apparently eg Ay (has bijuu chakra levels), Gaara’s dad, Oonoki (who was able to one-shot 25 wood clones using Susanoo with Particle style), possibly Yagura (who is a perfect jinchuuriki)

Hiruzen's bond with Orochimaru is pretty deep. Hiruzen and Orochimaru shared a similarity of being a genius they do have the similarity of knowing many jutsus as possible. Hiruzen wanted Orochimaru to succeed him but Orochimaru did not care about the Will of Fire. Also I didn't know Asuma was Hiruzen's son. Asuma Sarutobi. Also Hiruzen reminds me of Sun Wukong it could be the massive staff he wielded and that he's got Monkey King Enma summon.
There is no doubt that Hiruzen was a Genius Shinobi... but he was a crappy leader. He let Danzo destroy the Uchiha and pretty set up every problem during Naruto because he was too weak to deal with the insubordination and the myopic destructiveness.
Basically, Hiruzen was weak where it counted as far as being Hokage.
I almost agree with you. The same kindness that Hiruzen showed to people who didn't deserve it is the same kindness he showed Naruto. Without Hiruzen and Iruka, Naruto would have become a Gaara, and the whole world would have ultimately fallen into the hands of Kaguya. I think that Hiruzen was also a great leader because of this. I think the darkness that existed in Konoha because of Hiruzen (Danzo and the Uchiha rebellion) pale in comparison to the darkness that could have existed in the village had Hiruzen not been so kind. Danzo, though he wanted to overthrow Hiruzen, respected him since Danzo attempted an assassination and all Hiruzen did was forgive him. I'm not saying that Hiruzen's character is realistic, but I think he is one of those characters that makes bad people good and good people better. Like having Orochimaru working for the village rather than out of the village after Naruto Shippuden. Having Danzo working for the village rather than out of the village. That sort of thing.
BENYJOSE1 that’s like saying the president has all the power to change any and everything which isn’t the case. It’s politics at the end of the day. If he didn’t make the call to kill the Uchiha civil war would have definitely broke out. Not to mention Danzo and Hiruzen worked hand and hand in building the leaf village as it was. Danzo did all the dirty work to maintain his Hokages image(of course Danzo had his own agenda) but the fact is they operated the way any real government does. Real life parallels like that one in Naruto make it hands down one of the best anime’s of all time.

Well if you think about it, and wanna bring real life into it, its no different than how Obama was treated after Bush. Or any president really. Most of the time, you are busy dealing with a mess that made by the last guy. You cant just clean everything up on your own although you are expected. 3rd Hokage didnt cause alot of the problems you are talking about they were already set in mention before him. Yes, he didnt take the best actions but I give him the benefit of the doubt, i think ultimately his heart was in the right place.
They had a perfect plan (using Shisui), but Danzo ruined it on his own. Attacking the Uchiha without cause (you can't prove what Itachi confessed) would've been the perfect excuse they needed to destroy the leaf.
The only thing Hiruzen is guilty of is not killing Danzo after the fact but you can't hold the destruction of the Uchiha against him because there was no way he could've known better.
Along with his enormous powers as a shinobi, he also had the wisdom of his age. Deadly combination. Would like to see great fights featuring a younger Hiruzen and Tobirama

Meanwhile, the strongest path of Pain was completely unable to control less than half of the 9 tails. The dog summon isn't doing much against Enma.

"as quick and strong as ever, I see" etc. They were also able to land quite a few attacks on Hiruzen, who's stated to be the strongest of the 5 kage even at his old age. In order to do so they'd have to be kage level. Now I'm not saying reanimated Hashirama and Tobirama were anywhere close to how strong they were in their prime, but they have to be at least kage level, and the fact that they got tossed by one summon is very impressive.

You missed some other points about Hiruzen. He's not only one of the strongest shinobi ever, but also an amazing leader, and most of Konoha's success is owed to his leadership. He's the only adult in the room basically. He mentored more powerful shinobi than all other Hokage. Most of all, he's chill AF.

People underrate the 3rd? Did they watch the same show? He stayed hokage from his prime all the way to old age unlike his predecessors and even those after him. His predecessors retired early to name him hokage if you remember the flashback where both Tobirama and Hashirama give him the title and they are not even old yet... They fully recognize Hiruzen as being better then them. He was a capable ninja and even capable village leader. His death was very significant to the narrative because they said it shifted the balance of power between the villages. It pretty much saying Tsunade is a poor stand-in, a down grade. It's really all just set up for Naruto to become his true successor (besides Minato). Not to mention his fight vs the 1st, 2nd, and Orochimaru is probably one of the best in the entire series. I've rewatched that episode so many times.

Old Hiruzen being superior to Minato doesn't make sense because a younger and stronger Hiruzen could barley do anything against the 9 Tails while Minato was capable of sealing it away. Not only that but Hiruzen was scared to fight Minato when Orochimaru tried to summon him.
The statement for Ay's speed being equal to Minato is contradicted by the statement of Minato having "Unparalleled Godlike Speed."

Great video. Completely changed my mind. I would have ranked Hiruzen squarely below Minato, but I really forgot or missed a lot of these smaller feats that when examined suggest otherwise.
orochimaru himself was very strong and hiruzen sealed his arm off that alone shows how strong hiruzen is. But the reason underrate hiruzen is because they underrate orochimaru(the one with no jutsu except snakes) which makes people think hiruzen was weak.
But he didn't cut his arms off, he just sealed them via the death reaper seal.

Absolutely not. "Kage level" is tough to claim as a feat considering the difference between Ay, the Raikage and Mei, the Mizukage. In Seth's previous videos, he describes the war-arch Mizukage as fodder, and I pretty much agree. He and SwagKage, another awesome UA-camr, also state that Zabuza could supersede the Mizukage. I'm with you; calling anyone, especially Hashirama, "kage level" is both vague and an understatement considering everything that he shows in the manga and anime. He's basically a demigod, if Kaguya and Hagoromo are considered "gods."

We're talking about a man that knows thousands of jutsus by heart. I'll never forget the part in the fight where he mixed 3 elements together (water, fire and earth) to create a mud dragon fireball spotted...crazy...

This fight took place in early naruto , where jutsu were still basic but considered godly level, because lets be real , not once in the series did we ever see mud style bombs , tile shuriken ,mud swamp from thin air ... or a fire style of that caliber that Hiruzen used
If this fight took place in shippuden , then the same thing would happen , just on a much larger scale , simply because ....time and place of the animes story progression

My whole thing about hiruzen is that I never understood why people hate him because he didn’t throw away his hokage responsibilities to be a full time baby sitter/father to naruto ignoring all of hiruzen feats. Then on the other hand you have jiriya being praised for the best step father of all time as nobody pays attention to how he treated nagato and the others. Jiriya merely fostered nagato at best and taught him the bare minimum to survive and was like yup see ya you can go and fight whoever now while jiriya wonders off to do some Pervy shit. Knowing nagato possessed the rennigan and would’ve been one of the most powerful forces known to the shinobi world if he mastered his abilities. Instead nagato ended up getting jumped by jiriyas old pall hanzo forcing nagato to use a technique his body wasn’t prepared for paralyzing him for life and fueled his path of hatred and revenge leading up to the destruction of konoha itself. This was honestly the biggest mistake jiriya ever made that no one talks about and one of the biggest mistakes made by anyone in the series ultimately costing jiriya his life and many others. If jiriya would’ve brought nagato to the village to stay and had both nagato and naruto to defend the village I don’t believe handling anybody else would’ve been much of an issue besides madara and the whole plot would’ve been different.
I think the reputation came from Kishimoto powercreeping things up by the end of Naruto. When you get to Madara, he's summoning comets and his rival Hashirama is pulling thousand arm wood statues, or Obito using Truth Seeking balls that obliterate anything they touch, pseudo Dragon Ball Z levels of power. At the time of writing the fight between Hiruzen and Orichimaru and the 1st and 2nd Hokage, I don't think he planned to scale up the attacks and abilities to the point that they ended up at, so by comparison Hiruzen doesn't look so impressive with his fight against Orochimaru, hence the reputation.
We got a bit of it at then end when he pulls out all 5 core elemental chakaras in spite of not having Rinnegan or any special bloodline that would give reason for him doing so. After that he sadly got thrown to the side, not really doing too much else. I think if Kishimoto explored him properly, he would give him feats that make him look as impressive as those done at the end of the of the series.
The power scaling definitely got out of hand. I think that wooden golem Hashirama made was stated to be equal to full powered Kurama but that 1000 armed buddha statue was over the top. I'm also not a big fan of Susanoo because it didn't make sense for eyes to create a warrior out of chakra
Nah, I completely agree... I was hoping for more data for or against the hiruzen v hashirama debate hut this was prettt solid. Maybe considering more thing that may have stopped the reanimated kage assault may take a bit of certainty out of your arguments but still not be game changing completely or pivotal. I liked the video both in a figurative and literal sense lol.
He was also responsible for the downfall of the Uchiha, he never stood up for himself with the elders he broke his promise to protect Sasuke and Naruto and died without any regrets even know that he messed up so much before he passed away.

Naruto Explained there was no other option to stop the Uchiha. He tried talking. Danzo pretty much killed their only hope Shisui. If anything it’s tobirama fault that the Uchiha incident happened for putting them there and making them feel like they don’t belong. And he was dead when sasuke left so he didn’t break any promise. 🙃

This man mastered all five of the basic chakra natures without the sharingan and was the strongest hokage in his time. He definitely needs more love
I know this is old but...The Sharingan doesn't grant ninjas access to changes in chakra nature, that's a big misconception. A Sharingan user can only copy jutsu that he/she has the skillset do perform them. If one only has Fire style and finds themselves facing an enemy with Water style, they won't be able to copy them. The average Jonin only have access to 2 changes in chakra nature, meanwhile Kakashi has all of them. That's why he copied over 1000 jutsu and was feared as the "Copy Ninja".
Finally someone that talks about how mighty 3rd Hokage is. I've always thought this but you put it in a new light for me. How amazing if they did a special where hokage naruto goes back In time to spar against 3rd hokage in his prime.

Well, in one of the novels she's apparently confirmed to be the second best Taijutsu master in the Leaf after Rock Lee. And while there are no feats to back that up, there's also no reason not to believe it. So if the novels are considered canon, there's your answer :)

Yes, Neji is included in that statement as being above Tenten in Taijutsu. But he's dead, so currently he's not that strong xD Anyway, Tenten has no feats whatsoever, that's what I'm saying. The only things we know about her from the manga are that:
- she has really good aim, so her attack are probably hard to dodge;
- she's part of Team Guy, so we can infer that she's used to sparring with Lee and Neji, aka two Taijutsu beasts with vastly different skillsets (one focuses on speed and power, the other on technique and dodging);
- she lost to Temari;
- she helped Neji develop his Rotation move;
- she fought a clone of herself and won;
- she has a decent amount of chakra, since she was implied to have taken out Kakuzu's masks with that elemental fan.
There's nothing telling us that Tenten is weak. She just has pretty much 0 relevance to the plot and is rarely shown by Kishimoto. By that logic, both Izuna and Kakashi's father are weak because we have no feats from them. With characters like these, all we can do is go by statements imo.

I think he was the longest to be in a position of Hokage. And no one dares to think of waging war on Konoha cos of him. That shows a lot of respect from other villages cos they know how great of a Shinobi he is.
He was ONE of the reasons people weren't that inclined to fight a head on war with Konoha. At various stages of his reign, he could call upon the services of shinobi like the sannin, sakumo, Minato and then much later kakashi and gai. Not to mention the uchiha clan, which is the most feared clan in the elemental nations and a jinchuriki of the most powerful tailed beast in kushina. Hiruzen was powerful and revered rightly for his ninja prowess but attributing others' fear of konoha solely to him is a whole lotta wank.
That was a big point to make. after Hiruzen started taking orochimaru seriously, he slapped up the 1st and 2nd hokages and then went on to clap orochimaru and sealed away his arms at 69! Years old, bruh

The man went toe to toe with 2 reanimated Kage WITH Orochimaru breathing down his neck. In the middle of an invasion, he was still giving them a chance to call it quits. The man had faith in himself AND his people. He definitely had his flaws but the spectacle of that 1st Kage battle and village sized invasion was something special.

I was with you up until you wanted to give Minato credit for simply being a perfect Sage despite the fact that he got trashed the only time that we see him ever use sage mode at all. Not to mention using it for a single attack and not using it again afterwards.
Just because he was a “perfect Sage” does not mean anything if he barely got anything out of the technique in the first place. Which was the whole point of him saying that he was bad it in the first place. Are used it for under a mini with teleportation and I didn’t mean anything.

Hiruzen is the Bard of the Hokage. He’s super under-appreciated but he’s clutch af and can fill any role.
Hashirama vs Heruzin, I think, is very big contention and fair enough too.
I don't think Heruzin would beat or tie Madara when Heruzin did. I think it's less about skill and more about jutsu in general. Heruzin was probably the most versatile Ninja no doubt, but Hashirama had some insane jutsu (plus the regen and wood style) that was perfect for countering madara (and the Nine tails) in their final fight.

There's no probably. Hiruzen is without a doubt the most versatile Ninja. He was stated to be a Taijutsu, and Genjutsu master, and obviously knows at least some Fuinjutsu, as he used the Reaper Death seal. He's stated to have mastered every Ninjutsu in the Hidden Leaf, aside from family techniques, and Kekkai Genkai techniques, he can summon Enma, who in the hands of Hiruzen was capable of holding back the Kyuubi. He has, at least all 5 Nature Transformations. It's truly sad that we don't have more on this Legendary Shinobi.
