Robert the Bruce and William Wallace both have history close to Loudoun Hill, which is a volcanic plug situated in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It has been a backdrop to the area for centuries and recently I looked a little more into the events that happened near to it.
After almost three months away from any type of hill walking I decided to venture out to this little spot to get my legs moving again, plus it helps when there is a story to find.

The fall was my own fault. I had my wee YakTrax and knew I should have had them on with the compacted grass, mud and ice but chose not to put them on. Luckily it wasn't near the rocky parts or it could have been a considerable slip. Just a bruising of the ego and a laugh for everyone else 🤷🏻♂️

When I was approaching it I saw how much it stood out and no wonder it was used as a meeting / navigational place all those years ago. It stands out for miles around.
Just a wee hill, a quick up and down if you wanted it to be, but worth a wander around.

Oh, I was fine after the slip. Only a pride bruising from that one but shows it can happen anytime.
I'm sorry to hear of your losses too. It was so much in one short period and for no rhyme or reason really. Some days I still don't think it's real.

Thanks Hike Bike Scotland, I like visiting places with a story and as I said, it's the feeling you get actually being there that brings the places to life... for me at least.
The wee silly things like knowing that these big characters from history might have actually sat or walked where you are right at that moment.
I'm not sure if you've ever visited Loudoun Hill but if not it's a great wee place to spend an hour or two. It would be great for a lunch spot in the better weather.

Ah yeah, Greenan castle is a brilliant one. I think how it's perched right on the edge makes it look the part for sure.

I'll definitely look into that now. I've found a few that are close to the edge (so to speak) and will no doubt get out to them.

Talking is one hundred percent an option, for some people at least, and I know it works for me. There is a "macho" view around sharing your thoughts but thankfully I think that's slowly changing.

Have had a burstitis on my heel for well over a year and can’t see anyone about it due to covid, so can’t even get a walking boot on and even if I did, I couldn’t get far without danger of mortal agony lol. I shall return however at some point.
