Absolutely poor engineering design on this filter placement. I don't think they could have made it more complicated for such a simple process.

I like how they edited out all the struggling to get the damn new one back in there.
We try to keep all the videos as brief as possible, so we can stay straight to the point. But yes, these footwell housings can be tricky to get a new filter into.
Worst angle for that filter! Man, could they make it any more inconvenient?!😅
The only way it could be worse, is when it is located on the driver's side footwell. Nothing is worse than having to remove an entire pedal just to access the filter.

Replaced with an OEM filter. Start to finish 45 minutes. Clear instructions. Its dark under there so a light is helpful, esp for these 71 Y O eyes. A helpful hint: when inserting the new filter I found squishing it a bit like an accordion and pushing made things easier.
I also knelt on a cushion outside the car. That gave a bit clearer vision for the organ replacement. Both the Dr and patient survived!

I did it! Wow! Getting that fuse box off is crazy hard. I video makes it look too easy to remove. I had to pull so hard I thought it was going to break!

I second this, had to use a lot of force but everything appeared to be fine
There's a spring latch on the top. If you reach up in there you can press down on the release and it will come right off.

Thanks for your reply. I can confirm that access is gained from the passenger side on right hand drive vehicles also. Method is exactly the same .My R Lux Design had a plastic panel on the side of the tunnel which simply pulled off before the carpet could be pulled back. Thanks for the video

Its not even THAT bad considering all you need is a torx screwdriver and minor fidgeting to get the harness tab out.

Yes the filter used in this video is the same for the 2012 XC60.

There may be tabs on the side of the box that need to be pinched, in order to pull it out of place. If there are no tabs, it should be able to come out by simply pull upwards and towards yourself.

We agree! Cabin air filter housings located at the footwell can be more difficult to access than most others.

Is this method the same on a right hand drive vehicle?
It is either the same or a reversed process. We do not have a video for the right hand driver at this time.
