Tricky job for something that should take a couple of minutes. Had problems pulling the wire harness out of the way. There's a tension clip that you need to push down to release the harness (of course you can't see it) on the Top Left of the harness - just feel around and it will pop. Also - getting the new filter into the slot is a challenge - but keep trying as it does eventually get in there. Thanks for the video - could not have done this task without your help!!
You're very preceptive AuntDenise411. It is a royal pain in the ass to replace without mangling the replacement filter, I've made two unsuccessful attempts to do this. You will notice that the audio goes silent while the technician is installing the replacement. The silence is probably because he was screaming obscenities during this exercise.
You should replace your cabin air filter once a year or every 15,000 miles. A dirty cabin air filter filter could be filled with debris like leaves, pollen, and dust. If you live in an area with a lot of smog or around a lot of trees you might want to consider replacing it more often because you'll have more debris that may clog up the filter. Stale odors can also be caused by a dirty cabin air filters.
So the new filter get installed all tweaked the same way it came out. Volvo engineers should be ashamed how the design was accomplished on the cabin air filter.
Once it is fully installed into the housing, the filter should pop into place. It will sometimes require a bit of adjusting before it does so. It can be helpful to try to hold the filter by the sidebands and slowly guide them into the housing, to lessen the chances of bending them.
Either that tech has the patience of a saint, or his mic was off... I want REAL install videos where I learn some new swear words and see how many times another dude busts a knuckle. 🤬

You're welcome and thank you for informing us!
Great demo. It appears to be a HUGE pain to change that filter. 😩
Yes it is a poor design.

@@filterheads Volvo's motto must be "anything worth designing is worth over-designing." Never use two screws where three or four might fit.
Thank you. I never bothered to change mine until I saw this video. Many THANKS from Florida!
You're welcome and thank you for watching!
Great video, that new filter was a pain in the ass but I followed you lead. Finally got it in with a little patients. Thanks again! Jon
Happy to help you get the job done!
Best video on the subject! Thank you!
You're welcome!
That looks like fun.. Think I'll have the dealership handle it when I bring it in for my 40,000 mile service.

Mic was definitely off 😂
I love Volvos. But I am telling you this is the crappiest set up ever. The blower motor is in the center of the vehicle. Freaking crazy.
I agree they could of done a better job with the process.

I replaced mine and now the front power seats as well as the drivers side door do not work, do you know what could have done this or how to fix it?
Make sure that you reconnected everything that you unplugged for the install.
What a pain in the ass! And you though car design engineers were smart. I'd fire someone of this nonsense.
Yes, They could do a better job with this design.
You dont show part where you get the fuse box down
The only box that needs to be removed for this install is the one seen at 0:58
It figures Volvo has to be complicated.
LOL! Yes it is.
Toyota and Audi do a much better design for cabin air filter placement. Sham on Volvo. Will not buy another Volvo product
Behind the glovebox installations are definitely considerably easier than those located at the footwell.
