This guitar snobbery thing is getting out of control. When I first started playing in the late 70's I can't recall any of this. You learnt to play on what you had and it didn't matter. Now everyone slates cheap gear to make themselves feel better for spending £500 on a pedal that sounds like the £20 model. Strange world we live in. Nice demo Marty and Happy New Year.
Phil Dale - No kidding. The cork sniffing is out of hand and I swear people just repeat other nonsense they've heard online from other people without a clue.
I agree with you to an extent.....especially at churches, holy cow those worship guitarists are the primary contributors to this boutique gear boom. However, I will say that part of what led to all this modern day cork sniffing is simply the fact that there are WAY more options available, and way more info. Plus, you know....marketing. Just the nature of the free market. Also, I think the quality of affordable and widely available gear was better in the 70s. In today's market, there is a lot of junk to sift through. Furthermore, I'd like to point out that the guy making this vid is playing an expensive guitar and amplifier. So he clearly has a preference for the high end stuff.
I've two Ibanez Tubescreamers, an Ammoon 'Vintage Overdrive', a Moorer Green Mile, maybe a couple of TS-style drives. And they all did the 'tubescreamer thing.' I just plugged 'em in and used them. Sounded fine. Only thing I'd say about the original is the Ibanez models are tough and well made so if you're going on a big tough tour that's maybe the biggest reason to buy those.
I saw that pedal is $20 new. Electronic components are inexpensive, pennies for the resistors, caps and transistors, amp chip probably a buck in volume. The difference is likely in the build quality, plastic vs metal case and the screen printing of the name. Then how they wired it both in cheap labor overseas factories. Put the Behringer electronics in a metal case and call it the "Marty Scream box" and people will say it is the best pedal ever and way better than that inexpensive Behringer pedal. hahaha. Great video Marty thanks.
By cheap replace the chip with a higher output chip save bunches of money theres videos all over UA-cam on modding pedals . I had a ARIA Chorus cheap plastic sounded horrible . It had a chorus and stereo chorus out . Replaced the chip and its fantastic and part of my board even since ...
No, The TO800 is available new for $25 retail. It is based on the 808. Now finding a TO100 is a bit harder, which is based on TS9, but just found one new for 30 bucks. Now the VT999 Vintage Tone Monster is about 100 bucks used, but it has a Tube and once you replace with a good one, wow. Also the VT991 based on the Chandler overdrive (like what David Gilmour used on DSOTMoon). Runs about 60-70 bucks. All sound pretty good IMO. Some of the Behringers are hard to find for sure like the Ultra Octaver (based on the Boss OC-2), still looking for this one at a reasonable price.
Tubescreamer had more of a high-end presence than the Behringer. However, for $90.00 less, I'll turn the knob to the right a hair to compensate... I have a bunch of Behringer pedals. I love 'em. Not what I'd call super road-worthy, but slap them on a pedal board with a programmable looper, and they really don't have to be.
Jeff Potts they r good. Theres a behringer compression/sustain thats way better than my expensive ones. They make decent digital reverb. I have some orange behringer fuzz that sounds like insane electric demons destroying ur amp n brain
behringer usually does a 1to1 copy of the cirquitry of the pedals they try to emulate. so there's usually very little difference between the original and the behringer copy.
thats because the are sonically identical. most companies buy their chip sets from behringer since they own and manufacture some of the most popular chips in the market, particularly their bucket brigade analog chips. found in their chorus/vibrarto and tremelo as well as their delay. i cant say anything bad about them. some people will say that they will break because the casing is plastic, ive owned a few for over ten years now and they work the same as they did day one. if anyone says its less reliable because its plastic, just remind them that glocs are make of plastic and those are designed to be used and take punishment.... just like these pedals. honestly i highly recommend their overdrive and their chorus both are amazing.

Any perceived difference in sound would come down to the individual specifications of the actual parts. I have both and whenever I think there's a difference I adjust knobs and find out different. The tone- it's in there. I prefer the Behringer OD300 however.
Hahaha ok, I think i can answer that, that's because the settings on the pedals aren't the same, they have some minor diferences on the position, mostly the tone knob. He's tryng to get almost the same pedal. The same can happen with some versions of guitar rig, if you wanna get that specific pedal sound it's not gonna be precise the position, i hope my answer can aliviate your OCD, sorry if i wrote something wrong, my english it's a little bit rusty!
For $10 bucks that sounded great. I just got a new Lace Sensor Blue/Red Dually that splits from humbucker to blue single coil to red single coil on a Amazon sale of only $45.00 Can., they are regular $120.00. There are some great deals out there if you do some searching. Thanks for doing this Marty, look forward to more.
Just J , thanks for your comment, I actually thought about that, but they did turn out to be the real thing. Maybe the price was a mistake, it was only up for an hour or so, but they sold it for an extreme low price, not long after they jumped to 120.00.
My all-time fave setup is a (real) Lawrence L500 PU in the brige, wired up with it's OWN four-way telecaster type switch. Front coil, back coil, serries, parallel. A single coil on the Lawrence sound a LOT like a decent Tele bridge PU. The magic stuff happens when you use another regular 2-PU selector to mix a neck Strat PU with various bits of the Lawrence, separate V's on each.
Yeah the Monkey is a great pedal. It does a decent classic-rock crunch straight into a clean amp with the gain all the way up and it really excels at getting a good tight rhythm tone for the chugga chugga palm muted stuff. It doesn't have all the versatility of some of the higher end pedals, but it does sound just as good.
I Personally have the 10$ one and it’s really nice. But I really can’t tell the difference from the 100+ Dollar one that you played on this video and the one I have. So you can save a lot of money.... Wow..... Love your channel. Good luck!
Go watch the Wampler video where he compares the 808 to the TS9. _NOBODY_ could hear a difference. All the bollocks people say about them like "ooh the TS9 is brighter and has more gain" is basically complete BS
I have the behringer. It sound "dirtier" which is what I am looking for apart from a boost. It is a really nice pedal and of you feel like you need a boost either for some cleans or to really tighten up your amp (or even blend amp gain with pedal gain) I would suggest the behringer
I saw Seasick Steve live once and after a display of some of his crazy guitars he said "you don't need expensive shit to sound good, you just need to know how to make the best out of what you have" I've lived by that rule ever since.
….absolutely true. Till you play an Elite Telecaster…. Then it’s lives in your brain and eats it! Where I live import duties are 30 to 42 % on music instruments..plus local profits…AND exchange rate…so a 1000 dollar guitar is lo and behold 1600 or so! Bless the place you live too….
It's July 3rd 2021 and I just came from their site and it's still $19. Think I'm going to get one. I'm just a hobbyist learning and experimenting for myself. Glad to see I can emulate sounds for little to nothing.
It's probably all in my head but for some reason with EVERY comparison like this that I've seen when the more expensive pedal goes on I think the player puts a little more umph in their playing so it ends up sounding better to my ears but really in most cases they are sonically equal not just tube screamers all types of expensive overdrives and their cheaper clones. I think I usually get a clearer idea when someone a/b with a short loop already made. Idk it's still all good stuff!
Overall, for a 10 dollar pedal, it sounds very well. To me it sounds a bit sketchy to get a pedal at that price, but it sounds like it works well. Thanks Marty for the video!
Donner pedals are the shit! Inexpensive and built like a brick. They work great and sound great. At $25-$35 bucks each, you can amass a lot of pedals for not a lot of scratch.
Cool video! You know, I’ve always had pretty good luck with some Behringer pedals. Maybe not so much with their digital pedals that copy more expensive digital pedals, not really into digital anyway. But as far as their analog pedals go. Many times they pretty much nail it. I’ve been scoffed at by other guitarists for using the occasional Behringer pedal, ( I hear their little giggling and see them pointing) until I start playing that is. Then they change their tune about the pedals. They’ll actually wind up digging the tone. Don’t worry about being what I call, a “badge whore”. Be smart. Save yourself money and buy the much less expensive ones and just play. You might be pleasantly surprised!
I just bought a Behringer Model D synthesizer for $300. I don’t want to pay $3000 for Moog Model D, and I haven’t played them side by side, but based on demoes I hear, they are realllly close. Will it be working in 2035? Probably not, but I can just buy another. Also, who wants to lug around a forty pound hand made synthesizer worth thousand of dollars to a gig?
I’ve had a TO800 for a very long time along with other overdrives (I collect them)...I dropped the TO800 and it cracked in two...I put back together with duct tape and to my surprise it worked (lol)...I still put on my board from time to time both as an overdrive or as a boost pedal...It really is a very useable overdrive pedal...just be prepared to defend your honor for using a Behringer pedal at a gig...🎸🔊🎶🤘🏻
That´s actually what I like about Behringers, in case you drop it and break it, one can just easily get another one and that´s another $20, I mean, you do the math and you can buy 4 or 5 Behringers for the price of one Ts9. No brainer.
The cheaper one sounds just as good as the TS. I have a Joyo Vintage OD which sounds just as good. The electronic components on these pedals are almost identical.
My first pedal was the vintage tube overdrive. I had alot of fun with it then i got a chorus and digital delay from berrinhger and they sounded pretty good for the buck
i have a lot of different behringer pedals for guitars and basses. ech kost about 20 to 30 euros brand new with shipping. the only thing that sucks is, if you run them on battery, you need a lot of those. there are a lot of better pedals out there, but also a lot of crappier, more expensive stuff, and i think they're great! greetings from bavaria!
The Tube Screamer has a little more hair on it, but the TO800 is quite a lot better than I expected it would be. We all have to start somewhere. Great vid, Marty. And great idea for a series of vids comparing affordable pedals with their more expensive cousins.
4:40 definition... When you said it, i was thinking exactly the same thing. The sounds are clearer on the tubescreamer and by quite a margin to my ears
NO real difference. SAME TS circuit copied a 1000 times! Maybe the Behringer had a slight extra bit of gain at the same settings, but it would be no more than a poofteenth!
The TO800 is a clone of the TS808. Behringer has a TO100 that is a clone of the TS9. My personal favorite budget friendly OD is the Boss SD-1. Bought it for $30 used and it'll last forever.
The brand is the price! Ibanez guitar vs. raw Ibanez guitar without brand-icon at headstock, which one is more attractive and meaningful to you? People judge, so, the more expensive, the more impressive. p/s: ofcourse I can't deny the quality comes at the price, but sometimes it does not!
Thats simple... when you wanna buy something like that, ask a friend to try pedals while your eyes are closed than choose the one you like the most by its sound. The snob in you should be surprise... The price just doesn't matter when its about a personal sound you're searching.
Honestly it's music. The ears know better than the eyes. My $200 Squire Tele sounds better to me than my $800 Mexican. In music, eyes will rip you off, ears won't.
I have a few. The plastic isn't cheap. I don't see how a gig would break them unless you're inviting the crowd up onstage to jump on them & kick them around.
Thanks Marty been using the pedal for several weeks and can't beat the price and function, by the way I learned to play some pretty good lead from your courses, was well worth the $$. Ive been playing guitar for 30 years and never knew how to play lead until I ordered your courses, really worked, my son and I are now jamming in a band, by the way I'm 60 and hes 30, thanks a lot man appreciate your videos. Carl, OKC OK
The differences are almost unheard, but the ibanez has slightly more body in it. But i don't know if you use the pedals as boosters, while the ibanez surely works well (for me) as a booster pedal.
If a crappy signal goes in from a good amp it will definitely noticeable when it goes out. ..its like gabage in..garbage out. The crappy signal may not be noticeable at low volumes but at higher gain, its a different stories.
A bit late to the game, but different pedals running into different amps sounds d different, I can't run my ocd into my ampeg 140c it's too bassy but no problem in my Marshall valvestate
I own a bunch of Behringer gear. They make and replicate some great products. DeepMind12 is fabulous by the way along with their recreation of Roland analog drum machines. The pedals are just as good. I have a recreation of the Ibanez analog delay and it’s fab. Plastic case yes, but it.s solid. Tube screamer sounds great although I prefer a Boss Super feedbacker and distortion pedal
Having built a few of these I agree with some of the other comments. The metal base is more durable but the components inside are what's altering the tone. Cheap casing typically betrays cheaper components, but that isn't always the case
I could tell the difference immediately! The beheringer sounds good, and certainly deserves a spot on anyone's board, but those tube screamers have a certain magic about them that is not there in cheaper pedal. For $25(what I've mostly seen them go for) you really can't do better though.
I got a joyo OD a few years back. I liked the tone I was getting, however it was picking up radio signals. That was a bit annoying. Don't know if any of you guys have come across the same issue with cheaper pedals.
Yo you are awesome..... LIKE YOU ARE A LEGEND IN YOUR OWN LEAGUE!!! Keep up the work of teaching...... If you reply or something that would inspire me. I am 14 and just started guitar 2 months ago so please wish me luck ☺️☺️
This video is four years old! It may surprise folks to learn that currently in Japan on Amazon you can get: That TS9 for around $84 new. That Bheringer for around $59 new. The TS mini for about $62 new!! Given that the Ibanez pedals do sound better, for the money I'd just as soon pay the extra 3 bucks. I'm actually impressed that the price has stayed so consistently low on the Ibanez pedals. And still made in Japan, nice bonus that. Now if you can find a deal like Marty did for 10 bucks, I'd say go for it, but if you're buying new I'd stick with the Ibanez gear. If you've got cash to burn and want every TS model under the sun, the JHS Bonsai is a very good option IMO, and you're supporting American workers when you buy one.
I have both the Ibanez Tubescreamer and the Behringer TS clone. I use both. The Tubescreamer stays home whilst the Behringer goes to jam sessions and my guitar classes. They're functionally identical as far as I'm concerned. BUT the Behringer is lighter and cheaper so IF anything happens to it, it's easy and cheap to replace.
Behringer pedals are absolutely top notch. they sound great, they are cheap, and ive never ever had a single problem with any ive owned. i currently us their amazing Behringer Reverb Machine Vintage Time Machine and Echo Machine on my current board. love em. the recent takeover of TC Electronics has meant a relaunch of some of their Behringer range, in heavy duty metal casing, with new names. but the ones ive heard s ound like crap in my opinion.
I got a used 90s arion distortion and a used boss chorus as well as a d.o.d. fx56 all for 10 bucks a piece. Check cl or flea markets. Yard sales are a good place for cheap gear too.
I just received my TO800 in the mail today. Sounds great but I paid $29 for mine. Still, way better than $160 for a TS and the differences between two tube screamers can vary as well.
Dude from jhs just played this with the original black label first edition 808 and there is no audible difference. Probably because it's the exact same circuit.
I just had this talk with my guitar class students. Used is usually fine. It's nice if you can try it out first, of course. Don't be a pedal snob. Get something workable and with the money you save you could add another pedal like a used chorus, phaser, or delay. There are some great finds out there at yard sales, Amazon, Reverb, etc.
Not only cause of this vid or any other. Prices have risen on all kinds of equipment. 2 yrs ago I built a big board ,16 pedals, mostly Boss, MRX, and Elec H. for under $1000. Now I can't find any of these this cheap anymore. But I kinda made the switch to the cheaper stuff. Last 3 pedals bought are minis, Donner Echo square, Mooer Liquid phase, and Coolmusic modulation. Total for 3 just over $100. 1 used Boss, MXR or E H gonna be close to hundred or more.
Another thing to try out when you are testing those stomp boxes is what's called "true bypass" - connect guitar straight to the amp, play a bit, then connect guitar into pedal - into amp. I'm telling you, the Marshall overdrive in the bypass mode just ruins the clean sound so much that it makes you wanna destroy that pedal. )
I have to say that the Tubescreamer is better. Because my mate had one, and some famous people had them, so I had to have one and I couldn't let him have a better pedal than me. Then I decided that I need to have better than him, I bought a MESA Toneburst. Because it said 'Mesa' on it and it was expensive. Then he bought a Freidman OD-BE. And now I want one. Marty plays a $10 Behringer and sounds better than both of us. And there's the lesson kids.
@@EliteTurtle05 Nah... even worse mindset than that. "Famous Person 'Y' uses this one, and my friend has just bought one. Therefore i must have one, or at least one better. Repeat ad infinitum or until the repo man comes along and takes away my car.
@@EliteTurtle05 It's more like peer pressure combined with one upmanship. And he it is shown just how good a Behringer is when it's in the hands who's fingers have decent tone anyway. It's all about the talent... everything else is just dick waving. And I am guilty as charged

Really nice demo on this pedal and I believe Behringer uses the same IC and clipping diodes as one of the original screamers. I hear only a little more output from the Ibanez.
So just like with all the blindfolded $3000.00 vs $200.00 Strat and Les Paul comparison videos I've seen there is no actual difference other than what people's perceptions and gear snobbery bring into the discussion after the blindfolds come off.
The Beringer TO 800, which I own, is based on the Ibanez 808, the Ibanez Tube Screamer you compared it to is a TS9. Beringer has an OD pedal that is based on a TS9 circuit. All in all, a good review .
Breakup on the tube screamer is a bit tighter and sweeter but the Behringer does sound great especially for $10! It works great as a boost too. So often we play pedals light and stack for our sound. This would work great in that mix even with another tube screamer.
At Long & McQuade Music store (Canada) you can buy it for $31.00 but it's out of stock ... on their web site which says, "Out of Stock. Product can be ordered. Delivery from our supplier is usually within 30 business days. "
You had the level on the Tube Screamed set higher than the other pedal so it was flavoring your sound more, but I did hear a subtle difference in clarity on both settings and Ibanez was a bit clearer but if you are on a budget Berringer is the correct choice.
I badly wanted a tubescreamer but when I saw this behringer copy I went with it instead. Will keep my pedalboard lighter and is 1/5th the price. The plastic is tough, I think people underestimate the durability. Seems like a no brainer to get this over a tubescreamer. The only downside in my mind is the behringer pedals all cosmetically look pretty dull and boring.
theres a problem when putting pedals next to each other for sound, there is definitely a difference, but then again if someone didn't know what was what, then you would get half picking one and half picking the other. when you hear them separately, you will then know if you like it. if i buy a pedal, I have to test a few, I do a riff at home, and bring it into store on a player with line out. that then goes into the pedal, and i record it on another, I then have a little play to see what sounds different, I then go home. I listen to each recording again with a 5 minute gap inbetween. sometimes 10 minutes if i get some serious bias. I have sometimes picked the cheaper pedal as sounding better, and other times more expensive ones. did it when getting the horse breaker. I really just wanted that klon pedal, but the horse breaker sounded very close to me, and playing it in the guitar store felt amazing, though so did some other pedals. I then settled for the horse breaker ultimately because its 2 pedals in 1. tbh it doesn't matter so much on the pedals, its knowing how to play.
you always come up with something new.. the best teacher in UA-cam. can you make a video of how to make and justice for all tone with cheap distortion pedals?
As other posters have accurately stated the cheap one is a clone of the T808, not the T9, where there are significant tone differences, especially since the T808 is geared toward enhancing a tube amp's overdriven sound , where a T9 is geared toward a solid state amp
Have a Behringer Chorus pedal. Those things sound really great for being dirt cheap! Can really recommend those for anyone who just likes to jam around at home.
So at first I thought the Ibanez sounded better, but then I tried closing my eyes, skipping ahead in the video, and seeing if I could guess which one I was hearing. I was like "oh yeah, that's definitely the Ibanez. Much clearer and crisper". ...opened my eyes and it was the Behringer.

How will your looper protect the pedal from breaking? oO
You're stomping the looper, not the pedal.

Any perceived difference in sound would come down to the individual specifications of the actual parts. I have both and whenever I think there's a difference I adjust knobs and find out different. The tone- it's in there.
I prefer the Behringer OD300 however.
I have $5
Jared Hermans buy a triangle
Get a job
Congratulations!!! Good job!!!
You could finance a behringer with 2$ down maybe.
Enjoy your coffee
3:45 - Oh dear God, for the sake of my OCD, please actually point all the Tube Screamer settings to 12 o clock and not 11:58 and 12:03.
I haven't slept for two nights since I saw that discrepancy. OCD is Real People.......
When your said OCD i was just thibking of the overdrive pedal 😅
@@michaelclayton3990 same lol
That irked me too.... thought I was the only one pissed off about it.... sloppy Joe marty
The Behringer pedals are pretty decent for the price. I have their cs400 sustainer/compressor and I've got plenty of use out of it.
sounds exact the same!!!!! identical sound
Killer work Marty! The ad before this video was you from the GuitarJamz era, so my brain totally did a somersault like WHAT JUST HAPPENED!!?!
I Personally have the 10$ one and it’s really nice. But I really can’t tell the difference from the 100+ Dollar one that you played on this video and the one I have. So you can save a lot of money.... Wow..... Love your channel. Good luck!
So plug the guitar into coffee and it makes distortion?
I'm sorry I wasn't really paying attention
Don't forget the Behringer is modeled after the Ibanez 808, not the TS-9.
Go watch the Wampler video where he compares the 808 to the TS9. _NOBODY_ could hear a difference. All the bollocks people say about them like "ooh the TS9 is brighter and has more gain" is basically complete BS
Behringer makew two ibanez cnones, the TO800 which is ts808 andTO100 wich is ts9.
3:15 Lets hear what the tube creamer ;) sounds like.
I have to say it... "that's what she said!"
I have the behringer. It sound "dirtier" which is what I am looking for apart from a boost. It is a really nice pedal and of you feel like you need a boost either for some cleans or to really tighten up your amp (or even blend amp gain with pedal gain) I would suggest the behringer
Sounds great. We're living in an age of very affordable guitar and gear.
There are people out there dumb enough to pay $10 for a cup of coffee?
It dont even cost me 10 bucks for a whole can of coffee which lasts me a month
I can have 10 cups of coffee for $10, don't go to Starbucks.
Frank Wolf Me!!! Lol.

He said "a couple cups of coffee or maybe 1 depending on where you get it". Case dismissed.
I saw Seasick Steve live once and after a display of some of his crazy guitars he said "you don't need expensive shit to sound good, you just need to know how to make the best out of what you have"
I've lived by that rule ever since.
Sweetwater has the Behringer TO800 on sale today for $19. January 8 2021.
Bought 3 Behringer pedals 🙏🏽🤘
Can't beat it. I ordered 4. This one, chorus, fuzz, and metal. $80 and I can make some sweet sounds.
I grabbed 6 and a wah for 163.00, finally shipped!
$19 new.
Darren Harper thats a lot of beer
@Darren Harper lol😂
I got a used modded Rocktek 6 band EQ for $16. It's plastic and I use for my bass setup. Over 2 yrs ago and I'm thoroughly convinced it was worth.
$10 coffees give me that authentic blues sound. Live the music you breathe ya know
I loved the clean boost tip you just gave us. I'll try to use this on my set instead of buying a boost pedal.
Hi, I thought that the Behringer sounded clearer when you played chords on the clean boost setting. Thanks for the demo, Kev
check out donner pedals! they're all around $30-40 and sound really good!
Bobby, agree, got a Donner looper inexpensive & works great.
Bobby thanks dude!!!

Yeah well if
Every donner pedal I get hates my donner power brick which is strange. Every donner I try has to have isolated power which is annoying.
No brainer.
Behringer is so underrated! I have a Hellbabe (WahWah) and I definitely love it, and it sounds very good.
Marty that was a great side by side comparison. Definitely an eye opener. Thanks for taking the time to review and post this. Keep them coming
I'm really impressed with that $10 pedal. May have to do some shopping.
Your "Black Magic Woman"- Lesson brought me to your channel and i love it. I could die for a RHCP "Slow Cheetah" Lesson.
There's a great video that Josh from JHS did talking about Behringer pedals that's worth a watch.
Marty, I have both those pedals. The TO800 is a TS808 clone. I use the TO800 as a clean boost in front of my TS9. I also use them separately.
The cheaper one sounds just as good as the TS. I have a Joyo Vintage OD which sounds just as good. The electronic components on these pedals are almost identical.
2:33 behringer 3:37 Ibanez (The level knob on Behringer was put to lower level)
5:16 behringer 6:03 Ibanez 6:53 Behringer
Watching Marty play always makes me want to pick up my guitar. Sounding awesome!
Same here, and I don’t have a guitar!
Thanks for playing them as a clean boost. I’m surprised the Behringer sounded that good, but the TS9 was definitely a bit smoother and less harsh.
NO real difference. SAME TS circuit copied a 1000 times!
Maybe the Behringer had a slight extra bit of gain at the same settings, but it would be no more than a poofteenth!
Behringer stuff is surprisingly good value. Good Bang for Buck.
The TO800 is a clone of the TS808. Behringer has a TO100 that is a clone of the TS9. My personal favorite budget friendly OD is the Boss SD-1. Bought it for $30 used and it'll last forever.
I’ve been using the same SD-1 for 30 years. Hundreds of gigs and it may not look pretty anymore but it sounds the same as day one.
Great playing Marty! I like the Behringer a lot, especially for the price!
1:10 10 dollars, one coffe. Here in Brazil it costs 1/3 of month salary. 10 days of a life working to entirely spend on Behringer pedal.
@@Nooboroshi absolutely!
@@Nooboroshi does it feel better though, you can always replace the electronics
Thank you for the information. I'm a beginner and all the little nuggets you throw out there are REALLY HELPFUL.
I have like 8 Behringer pedals. They sound great. They're cheap plastic and would break in one gig but they sound great.
I have a few. The plastic isn't cheap. I don't see how a gig would break them unless you're inviting the crowd up onstage to jump on them & kick them around.
I'd have to be a Total Cow to break a Behringer in 1 gig.....
Uh, just got back from Starbucks. Whad I miss?
The differences are almost unheard, but the ibanez has slightly more body in it. But i don't know if you use the pedals as boosters, while the ibanez surely works well (for me) as a booster pedal.
I wonder if the quality of your amp makes a difference in getting good sound out of the cheaper pedals
Andrew Riscart yes. Quality of guitar, pickups and amp all factor in.
Yes
If a crappy signal goes in from a good amp it will definitely noticeable when it goes out. ..its like gabage in..garbage out.
The crappy signal may not be noticeable at low volumes but at higher gain, its a different stories.
A bit late to the game, but different pedals running into different amps sounds d different, I can't run my ocd into my ampeg 140c it's too bassy but no problem in my Marshall valvestate
Yes the amps makes a huge difference!!
I've had my behringer for over 10 years and never a problem with it or a complaint
Thats why my pedals are Behringer: distortion/overdrive OD100, vintage tube overdrive and noise supressor NR300.
Throw them away or stay in your garage.
JOYO Vintage Overdrive and never look back :)
y2kcurran Literally just got one for Christmas... :D
The hype is real with this one!
A-fucking-MAN !
This is the correct answer
DrummerDude2604 _UA-cam_ And what are your thoughts bud?
Having built a few of these I agree with some of the other comments. The metal base is more durable but the components inside are what's altering the tone. Cheap casing typically betrays cheaper components, but that isn't always the case
That´s not always the casing, lol
I could tell the difference immediately! The beheringer sounds good, and certainly deserves a spot on anyone's board, but those tube screamers have a certain magic about them that is not there in cheaper pedal. For $25(what I've mostly seen them go for) you really can't do better though.
The gear snob speaks ...
it's the same circuit bro. exactly the same.
Good luck with guitar.
Best of luck young man.. .. now go out there and show the world what you got
This video is four years old! It may surprise folks to learn that currently in Japan on Amazon you can get:
That TS9 for around $84 new.
Hmm it's almost as if we've been ripped off for years. Wait, most of us knew that :)
$10
Behringer pedals are absolutely top notch. they sound great, they are cheap, and ive never ever had a single problem with any ive owned. i currently us their amazing Behringer Reverb Machine Vintage Time Machine and Echo Machine on my current board. love em. the recent takeover of TC Electronics has meant a relaunch of some of their Behringer range, in heavy duty metal casing, with new names. but the ones ive heard s
ound like crap in my opinion.
Where'd you buy a 10$ pedal?
Metal \m/ he said reverb.com
Its $19 or so new.
Surprised . Behringer is so hit and miss.
I got a used 90s arion distortion and a used boss chorus as well as a d.o.d. fx56 all for 10 bucks a piece. Check cl or flea markets. Yard sales are a good place for cheap gear too.
Found a d.o.d. grunge for 6 at a goodwill. Local guitar shows and craigslist can have good deals too.
Pretty cool face off. They run about $25 now, thanks to this video!
Wenz Wenzel is only about 18dollar in my country hahah
Not only cause of this vid or any other. Prices have risen on all kinds of equipment. 2 yrs ago I built a big board ,16 pedals, mostly Boss, MRX, and Elec H. for under $1000. Now I can't find any of these this cheap anymore. But I kinda made the switch to the cheaper stuff. Last 3 pedals bought are minis, Donner Echo square, Mooer Liquid phase, and Coolmusic modulation. Total for 3 just over $100. 1 used Boss, MXR or E H gonna be close to hundred or more.
Sounded great, I ordered one today from Sweetwater for $19.99 No tax & free shipping. Thanks Marty, keep those helpful clues coming!
Hey marty!!! Can you do stay away by nirvana? Thanks man!!!
Another thing to try out when you are testing those stomp boxes is what's called "true bypass" - connect guitar straight to the amp, play a bit, then connect guitar into pedal - into amp. I'm telling you, the Marshall overdrive in the bypass mode just ruins the clean sound so much that it makes you wanna destroy that pedal. )
So, the fingers make the good sound ;-)
Thank’s Marty !! You make your guitars sounds great and not every pro guitar players/ youtubers would be as honest as you are.
And there's the lesson kids.
you have the mindset of "if it costs more it must be better"
@@EliteTurtle05 Nah... even worse mindset than that.

Here it is....
Forget what you hear from the amps, forget what you hear from pedals, learn what you hear from your heart. In great hands, a squire telecaster through a cheap transistor amp can sound better than a custom shop PRS through a MESA dual rectifier. This I know from experience.....
Throughout your burgeoning career you will hear words like 'tone' 'mids' 'balance' ...
Rely on your ears... experiment, have fun, enjoy, find your sound and find.....'you'. Forget what he does.. she does famous person does... no one ever became famous for copying what 'he' does....
You will only become famous for what YOU
do....
Do what you do....
*_Not at the same 12 o'clock settings_* .
Fraud.
Breakup on the tube screamer is a bit tighter and sweeter but the Behringer does sound great especially for $10! It works great as a boost too. So often we play pedals light and stack for our sound. This would work great in that mix even with another tube screamer.
$ 30 now
At Long & McQuade Music store (Canada) you can buy it for $31.00 but it's out of stock ... on their web site which says, "Out of Stock. Product can be ordered. Delivery from our supplier is usually within 30 business days.
"
Sound = Ibanez ts | Price = Behringer TO800 |
You had the level on the Tube Screamed set higher than the other pedal so it was flavoring your sound more, but I did hear a subtle difference in clarity on both settings and Ibanez was a bit clearer but if you are on a budget Berringer is the correct choice.
10$ pedal has better tone
I badly wanted a tubescreamer but when I saw this behringer copy I went with it instead. Will keep my pedalboard lighter and is 1/5th the price. The plastic is tough, I think people underestimate the durability. Seems like a no brainer to get this over a tubescreamer. The only downside in my mind is the behringer pedals all cosmetically look pretty dull and boring.
In 2030, you'll have to pay 200 dollars for the "rare and vintage" Beringher:):)
Ya At least the one's that are left. Not broken cause plastic
theres a problem when putting pedals next to each other for sound, there is definitely a difference, but then again if someone didn't know what was what, then you would get half picking one and half picking the other. when you hear them separately, you will then know if you like it. if i buy a pedal, I have to test a few, I do a riff at home, and bring it into store on a player with line out. that then goes into the pedal, and i record it on another, I then have a little play to see what sounds different, I then go home. I then settled for the horse breaker ultimately because its 2 pedals in 1. tbh it doesn't matter so much on the pedals, its knowing how to play.
they are the same
Nicholas Grigore agreed
you always come up with something new..
the best teacher in UA-cam.
can you make a video of how to make and justice for all tone with cheap distortion pedals?
As other posters have accurately stated the cheap one is a clone of the T808, not the T9, where there are significant tone differences, especially since the T808 is geared toward enhancing a tube amp's overdriven sound , where a T9 is geared toward a solid state amp
Have a Behringer Chorus pedal. Those things sound really great for being dirt cheap! Can really recommend those for anyone who just likes to jam around at home.
