It's so awesome knowing how still relevant Gameboys and their potential are! So cool man!
99% of 20yo good Gameboy games are better than most mobile phone games today.
@@flamespear86 definitely this and not only are all the young adults looking to get back into there childhood handheld/“retro” system
It's a shame that Elliot doesn't use his girlfriend's toothbrush anymore.
😂😂
@@TheRetroFuture 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was just going to comment that xD
@Mrsuperking UA-cam631 hmmm
This time it was a paintbrush. Next episode will be a mop. After that, a barrel of IPA and just submerge the nasty gameboy in that and boom, done.
Elliot trying to reach the required word count: Theres an on and off switch that you can turn off and on
An on and off switch which you can use to turn the gameboy off and on or on and off!
Nah just me not writing scripts and waffling on like an idiot 😂
@@dpaddestroyer1861 An on and off switch that you can switch on and off to turn the gameboy off and on and back off
again
@@619Vital still wrong
It's cool
Awesome 🥳
Yeah
yeah

Just want to make a note to all viewers, please do not clean your rubber contacts with any sort of alcohol cleaner! IPA, ISO, all rubbing alcohol will cause a rapid degenerative reaction in the rubber and the lifetime of your contacts will ultimately be far shorter than if you had just cleaned them with dish soap and water.
Have a separate little cup to put anything plastic/rubber into, and clean that with dish soap and water.
Anything electronic, you clean with alcohol.
Hopefully other people see this!
my source, I'm an electronic engineer who designs cannabis vapes which use these materials very very commonly. And the consumers use ISO to clean them, but it's very important not to clean gaskets and orings with it. It also marrs, stains and chemically degrades plastic.
@@TheBrothers759 that’s awesome
@@TheBrothers759 cool bro i’m baked rn
F, I just doused every piece of a GBA I recently bought with IPA because of this channel... thanks for the tip.
@@TheBrothers759 what's your thoughts on the use of naphtha/lighter fluid for cleaning rubber parts?
Hey dude just wanted to give you a shout out. Modded my first GBA today with a new shell, buttons, IPS v2 display and it turned out beautiful. Thanks for being super informative! Didn't even realize it was something I wanted to do before seeing your videos
So really awesome seeing these ultimate build video from the Game Boy UA-cam Master 😎
Love your soldering skils 👌
It's so nice to see these old Gamboys being restored to better-than-factory condition. Great video Elliot!
Yep and now nintendo should take notes about this sothat they will come with a 20 year annyversarry edition of the GBA😁
@@johneygd For sure 😀
@@johneygd annybersarry? Tf is that lmao
@@johneygd they would release it with an unlit screen...
@@johneygd i know that wouldn't happen, but atleast put some game on the freaking switch godamint
"I've got no excuses for being bad this time."
That was an awesome build Thanks Retro Future. I have been wanting to do this and this may be the final push for me.
Hi! I just wanted to say that you inspired me to do my first mod... and I now own a pink GBA with an IPS screen :) I’m so happy with it! Thank you! I love your channel
still waiting for some parts, but this is essentially what I'll be building (with a few extras) in a couple days. $200 is around what I played for everything minus the GBA which ended up in my stuff from one of my deployments. no idea who's it was originally, but I've had it, all beat to shit in my collection for going on 15 years now and I'm excited to being it back to life!
That's actually awesome
It would be cool for you to go in depth into the limitations. The FunnyPlaying IPS V2 has strange video artifacts especially noticeable in Pokemon games. The battery mod is *not* Play & Charge which isn't too obvious to folks new to this. Additionally, the battery mod introduces some more noise to the already noisy audio
Ooo! The battery mod isn't Play & Charge? Wow I'm glad I decided not to go with that one. I've got a stack of rechargeable AAs and one of those chargers that keeps a dozen of them all topped off at once. It's very nice, but I started to wonder if I should get the rechargeable mod for my GBA. Glad I didn't.
The power cleaner mod and the audio am both get rid of any unwanted noise and tha includes that caused by the battery mod. It's in the read up for the parts. Mine has a slighly different audio mod but I use the same power cleaning mod and I no longer have an noise both through my new 1W after market speaker or with head phones. Are you sure the battery mod you know of is the same as what Elliot used as the are a few different ones out there.
I’m glad that the on and off button works as you would expect 😂 Great mod, looks & sounds awesome!
Thanks for all of your videos! It’s because of you, I decided to mod my old Gameboy Advance and it turned out amazing!
Awesome video Elliott, and even better b-roll. I feel like the quality in this video was a step up from your recent uploads, which is impressive given the huge house project you have going on at the same time. I hope you continue finding success from all the hard work you put in.
I MISSED THESE TYPES OF VIDEOS! I hope you do more like these. Simple straight forward mods
I remember seeing that gameboy with orange buttons and bumpers in a magazine before it was launched. I really loved the colour combo. I remember as a kid I was really disappointed when it didn’t make release, so settled for the white and grey shell. Loved that handheld. Great video!
Ive been waiting for a long time for this! Also So close to 400K!!
Thank you!
Awesome work as always, upgrading and preserving these handhelds!
Just beautiful. I remember trying to see the screen back in the day. But this is just stunning.
I knew that you could put a backlit screen into a GBA but I never knew all of this was possible! You've inspired me to do it myself now! :D
This mod setup looks absolutely stunning!
I’m suprised you haven’t made a video on which games to play on the GBA.
I think it'd be cool to see that from Elliot too, but if you're looking for a general guide on this you may want to check out MetalJesusRocks' channel. He does console buying guides all the time, which include lists of rare and recommended titles for each console they cover.
@Gaylord Focker I'm sorry to hear you don't like his videos. Do you have any recommendations in particular that you prefer?
obligatory metroid fusion
@Gaylord Focker MJR isn't that bad. At least his crew know their shit.
@Gaylord Focker Completely disagree, I think he's worth a watch.
Absolutely beautiful. Keep up the good work! 👏😁
Guessing that your wiring error is due to trying to do that and fix up a house.
Hahaha yes
@Mrsuperking UA-cam631 did you try a new battery
always love more GBA content! I just finished an IPS mod and have a USB-C pack on the way after watching one of your vids a while ago 👌🏻
Love the new restoration video presentation!
Watching these is so relaxing.
Cool to see that they have colored silicone start and select buttons, when I did mine nearly 10 years ago that was, in all sillyness, the hardest and most expensive part of the mod. SP101 screens where still rather cheap back then and didn't do a lipo mod. (as someone from FPV racing, I don't trust those things one bit).
Trying to make your own silicone molds and all that isn't as fun as it sounds. Eventually sculpted the selects and start button to fit and glued them on the silicone, still works great till this day.
I made one of those bad boys at the end of last year, over the winter break! Sadly I broke off one of the solder pads, but it still works, just without the brightness up function. There is an alternate solder point, but I am going to have to bring in my engineering friend with her magnified set up because the joint is very small.
Even without the soldering part, it is ABSOLUTELY worth it. I got my shell in atomic purple, because it is the best colour.
Nothing better than a Sunday mod!
I love the Spaceworld 2000 colors!
Great work Elliot these look amazing!
That’s really cool! Great work!
I made the EXACT SAME ERROR and blew the EXACT SAME fuses. I had another GBA in the trash that was totally dead (that's what I get for buying a $15 "for parts" GBA I suppose), so I dug it out and very carefully desoldered the fuses I needed from that one and added them back to the working one. Revived it with a bit of sweat and anxiety.
BABE WAKE UP! NEW RETRO FUTURE VIDEO!
I thought of an idea
What if for an outro he started saying “I will see you in the retro future” or something along those lines
We actually have the parts on the way after ordering them earlier last week. Fingers crossed we don't do something stupid! Thanks Elliot, you rock dude! ^_^
Last night I ordered all the parts I need to start modding my first gameboy advance. Can’t wait!
Just got a pro tech toolkit yesterday. So excited to do repairs and mods.
Awesome build as usual Elliot. Can we talk about how frustrating it is that ppl are trying to charge crazy money for an unmodded GBA now? When did $60-$80 become normal?
I still don’t pay more then $40 on principal but that’s getting harder and harder to do.
Maybe because of the people who grew op with the gba are nostalgia about it
It’s crazy how the modding scene came to be for the game boy. Like it’s hard to find a good GBA that’s like 30-40$ USD - and that’s just one for parts provided that the unit actually works...
I'm afraid that's how nostalgia collecting goes. When you're old enough to afford a hobby, so is everyone else who remembers the same things you do. Don't worry. Prices will drop when our generation starts dying from old age.
@@AndyLundell that’s true. Unfortunately most people selling are resellers though. Which I guess I am too but at least I upgrade them first before reselling. The higher that base price but is the higher modders will have to charge too.
Elliot, you inspired me to get a Gameboy SP and mod it, it looks awesome, really look forward to all your videos!!😄✌️🔥
I was really dissapointed with my reproduction Platinum Silver shell, but the one you got was okay. I've ordered a grey one to paint myself as I think it will give me a much nicer finish.
Awesome video and love the comments on the condition of the gameboy😄😁
Beautiful how to do videos, the reason I keep on coming back ⭐️
Happy 400k 🎉🥳🎈🎊🎁🍾
Buen video y gran trabajo como siempre. Saludos desde Mexico, Elliot ✌🏻
Good work. Looks excellent.
Looks incredible great!!!
I’ve got my GBA and SP all kitted out. I get ALL my stuff from Handheld Legend (and their shop is only 2 hours from where I live). My GBA is pearl Lime green shell and white accents, with the funnyplaying ips mod and battery mod and I love it! My SP is a whole other story, though. It’s transparent blue with transparent pink buttons. I added the ips screen to it AND added wireless charging to it via Macho Nacho’s 3D printed back plate.
Love the videos, my favorite handheld channel 😁👍
As per usual love your videos!
Your mods are very cool!
Very happy to see a repair and upgrade video again. I've missed them.
Did he replace the fuse he blew?
I have the old pro tech toolkit and I've loved it for the years I've had it.
Congrats on 400k
Hello! That looks so cool!
Hi Eliot! Nice video mate! I'm so happy that someone even today loves retro handhelds* (sory for my bad english).Last time I played GBA was like 12 years ago. Big respect to you bro
Thank you!
Great video, man!
Just a suggestion for you - you mentioned the GBA Accelerator. I think an installation of that mod would make a great video! Would like to see that in the future :)
Liked INSTANTLY cheers Elliot, awesome job!
You literally got me collecting handhelds to mod/restore, I’m just afraid to take the leap
I'm convinced. I'm going to see if I can get a cheap Gameboy Advance on Ebay, and fix it up with a screen mod.
You have the best repair/mod videos, and have made me want to get into this. Thanks :)
You should get yourself some helping hands. Just a little alligator clip system to help with some of these smaller chip boards.
I’ve bought myself a fully modded GBA a couple weeks back, new housing, ips v2 display, usb c cleanjuice battery pack & then I got a ez flasher cartridge with a 16gb micro sd card
Keep doing what you do
Thanks
Nice build, inspired me to build one now
WHAT. A great song. Very fitting. Synths and all. Super inside-the-computer-world sounding. Great techs sounds!!!!
I have always liked The Retro Future's Videos. His channel is so great and fun to watch. Keep it up, Ill always be supporting you to the very end.
Thank you!
@@TheRetroFuture :D
Great video as always
This is the first time I hear a UA-camr say their sponsor's products are expensive lol
awesome little thing, i wish i had the money and time to do something like that, but someday i know i´ll gonna be able to, best of vibes for you and everyone watching this.
I think you should make this hole through this wall finally. This cord spoils all the fun :) cool video :) greetings from Poland :)
Love your videos!!!!!
I got a couple of these a few years ago, they're awesome!
Got mine in the mail. I can't wait.
I have an old Gameboy Advance my aunt gave me and now I have to make it last, love the inspiration!
There actually seem to be quite a few new old stock battery packs floating around complete with wall and car ac adapters. This battery pack with USB C seems nicer though.
Thank you retro future, you have inspired me to mod my own GBA.
incredibly clean soldering
nice video, Jeff!
So cool bro, if I had the money I would jump in and get me one. Thanks for the great videos my guy
Just found this video, looking to build my first GBA next month 🤙🏾
Woah 😮 I didn’t realize how much a difference that makes! Look at how vibrant that screen is! I never had a gameboy advance but how would I go about getting one of these or something like this?
Definitely gotta do one myself!
Elliot, I think you're great and just like the persona you show on these videos and I wish you luck with your home and career in general.
I want to make exactly what you have here, but I feel that RetroModding doesn't have everything in stock. But maybe I'm wrong, like the audio amp you used was something you purchased a while ago?
liking the music for this video.
I still have my platinum GBA. Always wanted to mod it back in the day because it seriously lacked a backlight. These new ips screens are sweet though. I'd happily put one of those in.
I hope the NeoGeo Pocket one day gets this level of care. The mismatched screen upgrade available doesn't cut it.
My favorite colors since the 2DS XL, would love to see a Game Cube with those colors 😍
I need one of these
Hey man! Yeah you do.
Same
look on etsy!
Ok this is a Gameboy asmr channel. I love it.
A lot of time ago i was able to get my hands on an old gba, just for modding it. I never got the guts to do it cause i'am afraid of destroying it with soldering, but since is not required i will try to do it for my birthday!
Get yourself a GBA IPS kit that comes with touchpads so you don't need to solder and can still change the brightness. They are on Aliexpress
I love the contrast between the silver shell and orange buttons. That gameboy is beautiful.
I love it. You should look at the blue one they did too!
I will, I want one so bad
Really nice !!
The pro screw driver kit was legit a game changer for all my needs
You sir, are the Gameboy King
Nice trick using the iso on a paintbrush to clean. Gonna try that myself.
I am more of a dmg guy but this is cool
Thanks!
@@TheRetroFuture you are the one that got me into modding and retro gaming as a whole so thanks!
Awsome mod , man
