For me the swarms are the scary part, you just throw enough stuff at the enemy. A soldier needs training, can get exhausted by the terrors of war, but drones maybe one day at a point where a target is enough and the AI will do the rest for you. The war will be far away for the future soldiers but it could last for years as long as you can fuel the war maschine.
Portable EMPs and broadband jammers should be high up in the dev list of 2023
if only we all put our collective resources and minds together into exploring other worlds
That's not profitable and doesn't bring benefits in the short term. The only two things most countries care about.
War and invasions is the bloodsport nations always embrace.... nowadays its getting blatant with most nations are either, its not my war or lets fund the war... the minority of nations call for peace
What happens when an algorithm commits a war crime?
Too late.
War crimes are a convenient fiction. Watch the film "A Judgement at Nuremburg" to see why.
If it is behaving really bad, it will be a genocide
I found worry over fire and forget weapons hilarious we have been useing fire and forget since our ancestors learned how to through rocks.
Or Javelins
@@Trollportphosphat Javelins are a realy new tech compared to a nice rock.
@@mathewritchie true but already 400.000 years old aswell.
Did your rocks travel 7000km below radar, then loiter for 4 hours till it spots a specific vehicle and then launch a JDAM at a specific man, before returning to base for refueling?
@@michaelnurse9089 "fire and weapons" aren't autonomous. Maybe they should've used the term loitering munitions because those ones are. Well, at least the Israeli Harop is fully autonomous. Fire and forget weapons still needs human input to pick targets and fire. The javelin missile is a fire and forget but it needs a human to still see a target and then launch the missile
pop a nuke: specifically designed for maximum EMP, as opposed to thermal blast. (watch 'em drop like flies)
You can easily shield them in a bunker. Also, you pop a nuke and then Russia will pop 7000 nukes - 100 on every major western city.
Then watch your equipment getting fried in that EMP too.
Just use a huge net like fishing and the swarm is gone..
No body can stop war!No body can stop local conflicts! As long as war is the biggest Business.

what, nuclear weapons have plenty of other uses besides being a weapon. America used them for underground mining and Russia used it to put out a fire
'An exclusive first look at a UN Institute Report on the risks of autonomous weapons. On some future battlefield, a military robot will make a mistake. Designing autonomous machines for war means accepting some degree of error in the future, and more vexingly, it means not knowing exactly what that error will be.'

Even if your adversary has millions of them, if you can effectively make them immobile by jamming them. Not making them work that is the best attack
The danger is in the belief that warfare is the solution to disagreements and meditation the answer to mental issues!
And while we're all busy figuring out how to throw ever more advanced rocks at each other in our petty squabbles, the planet is on fire.

Evil in collateral damage with innocent deaths

There is kind of vague spectrum of definition of AI
from the learning AI via environmental changes to adapt to them and react or simply algorithmic programmed protocols to do or do not react to changes in receiving new data inputs
Marketing kills vocabulary.
Happened in the past to ”Turbo”, ”Quantum”,”Atomic”, ”Titanium”, etc.
There is already extremely little, fast, silent and even invisible.
Great stuff
Autonomous drones are the new nuclear, except cheaper
I hope they name it skynet.
This woman is far, far from a leading expert.
To be honest, humans don't stand a chance in this war.
Meanwhile Skynet is waiting to be self aware...and then Judgement Day...Skynet Deutschland GmbH will be Skynet's European HQ.
It's very important that machines are still controlled and decided by humans but some might not wanna do that and it's very dangerous
Human control is arguably the most dangerous aspect of an autonomous weapon system. You could program a robot to follow a moral code, the geneva conventions, and to minimize civilian losses. A human sitting at the control center thousands of kilometers away will probably not hesitate to sacrifice some innocent lives for "the greater good". Don't forget that an A.I can't be evil if you don't program it to be, while there are plenty of horrible humans.
Some will make the AI fully dependent to save themselves from legal trouble
I really don't think AI is any better or worse than human
AI is just build different. Its like comparing frogs with lime - only same thing they have is a green color.
AI will be an effiecient, amoral system which is optimized in killing as fast and disabling as possible
Raul Menendez had already shown us what kind of threat is coming from these drones in near future

Yep as the main push for AI would be military, due that huge funding.. After that demilitarized versions get to civilians
