What I remember most about this game was having to sit on my hands. I was a Town fan working in Manchester, living in Oldham and spent my weekends with my partner who was at Lancaster Uni. This meant I went past Bolton's ground twice every weekend - I couldn't get a ticket so went in neutral colours to the Bolton ticket office at sat in with the away fans. The people around me quickly sussed me out during the game but were cool with it.
As a neutral (Tottenham fan) I really can't see what Fat Sam's beef is, admittedly the decision to dismiss Whitlow was wrong, but Bolton's first goal was a foul on Wright and possibly even a high foot from Holdsworth as he scored. Clearly a foul from Whitlow for the first pen, though the defender got a bit of the ball for the pen that Magilton missed, he ploughed through and got the man too. Bolton's players then lost control and seem to have struck Magilton. Elliott could have got a straight red for the foul that saw him get his second caution. Bolton lost control not the referee.
Have to say, I think that's a little harsh on him. During his first spell, he did very well and had the world at his feet (literally, until he brought the player down!!!). He made the mistake of going to Arsenal/big club - certainly too soon anyway - and then lost his way through injuries and struggling at a bigger club. On his day, he was a very good keeper - certainly one of the best we've had in recent years, maybe since Craig Forrest?
What a cracking game. Still think Jim Magilton could have taken us to to the Premiership. He was a GREAT Town player.
Best game I have ever been too at portman road!

The commentator got it wrong with Whitlow's red, he had been booked earlier and picked up a second yellow rather than straight, which was deserved.

Richard Wright, most over-rated keeper ever when he was younger.
He was the best keeper in the Championship by a country mile...
