    Dave Mustaine, the singer and rhythm guitar player, was too crazy for Metallica and was kicked out of the band as they traveled across the country to record their first album in New York. He was a hell of a songwriter and guitar player, and his ability to play and sing these songs at the same time has always impressed me.
    And that solo that melted your face at 8:36, that was also Dave. He was a ferocious lead player, which was his role in Metallica. But the bulk of Megadeth's solos are by Marty Friedman on this album, and a variety of other guys over the years.

    If you're digging the Guitars then Megadeth is right up your ally. The Conjuring, Five Magics, Wake up Dead, Tornado of Souls < one of the greatest solos in Thrash, Lucretia < underrated song with an amazing solo. Combo songs must hear together ... Into the Lungs of Hell (instrumental) -with -Set the World Afire and then ... Dialectic Chaos (instrumental)- with- This Day We Fight!

    Dave played the first and last solos in this song. If you listen to the album enough, even a drummer can figure it out. It may, or may not, be the best thrash song ever written. But it's definitely the best ALBUM. Ironically, this was called speed metal back in the day.

    Dave Mustaine said in an interview that he was inspired to write the song in Northern Ireland, when he discovered bootlegged Megadeth T-shirts were on sale and was dissuaded from taking action to have them removed on the basis that they were part of fundraising activities for "The Cause" (i.e. the Provisional Irish Republican Army).He Proceeded to go up on stage and shout this is for the cause and a riot started in the crowd. Megadeth were then escorted out of Northern Ireland by police to the safety of the Republic of Ireland

    I almost had a freakout when I heard your dad say that this was the best metal song ever written. But then I realized something: Hey, that's his opinion. I can't get mad at that, and then expect people to respectfully listen to my own opinion. So, I applaud that viewpoint while also having one of my own. I find it difficult to exalt any form of art from artists whom I don't respect. Dave Mustaine has always given me a bad vibe, and I can't really place why. I try to make my own opinions of people, rather than simply go along with the popular opinion of them. That being said I still can't really "get into" Megadeth. The first metal band I ever listened to of my own accord was Iron Maiden, and their discography, front to back, for me, is top-notch. I've heard some reactors say that they can't get into Maiden because of Bruce Dickinson's voice, and while I disagree, I say, hey, that's what the world's all about, having a difference of opinion. If you're looking for more metal, Silas, I'd suggest the Iron Maiden song "Run to the Hills." I believe you can't go wrong with anything in their catalogue, but I recognize that some of the lesser-known stuff may not be for everyone.
    Hope you and your family are well, Silas. Looking forward to the next one!

      I mean if we're going to judge bands by the character of their members you can forget about Zeppelin, Floyd, The Beatles, etc, etc. On the other hand, Maiden all seem like great guys, going so far as taking on a third guitar player just to have Adrian Smith back in the band.

    • @South-of-Heaven

      Maiden= Metal, Megadeth=Thrash so yeah its understanding why you cant get into MD as they are two different sounds of metal.
      I Love Iron Maiden and grown up listening to them... my most prized Vinyl's are Iron Maiden but when it come to who I listen more of... hands down Megadeth.
      BTW... Love to see this channel reaction to Powerslave, Aces High, The Number of the Beast. Up the Irons.

    • @chief999
      @chief999 Рік тому

      I can get behind everything you've said except for " Dave Mustaine has always given me a bad vibe, and I can't really place why." In fact, it makes zero sense to me leaving me to conclude that you are either lying or mentally deficient but your grasp on the English language refutes that idea. How can you not know yourself? For everything that I like or dislike I know why. On a few occasions, I had to think about it but figured it out with in 30 minutes.
      As I type this, I've noticed something that might be a factor. You said " I find it difficult to exalt any form of art from artists whom I don't respect." Seems to me Dave must've said or done something that you don't respect but forgot what it was. I can't accept that you don't know why you dislike someone or something. Ultimately, it's not a huge deal, I'm not mad but I am confused. For the record, every person I dislike, I know exactly why. Why don't you?

    I thought you might not yet be ready for something like *Cardiacs* , but if you're sometimes up for a bit of Megadeth like this, maybe this is not a premature suggestion from me (even though you still have so many amazing recognized classics to get to know.)
    They're an obscure-ish band (not completely). Probably not good material to build up view counts on a reaction channel with, but in your own time you (and probably your dad, too) might just enjoy the music of the late great Tim Smith. (The Royal Conservatoire in Edinburgh like his music,for instance. They awarded him an honorary doctorate in music for his work in the last years of his life. They don't just give those things away. He was completely self-taught. Learnt how to read and write music by comparing the score of Quadrophenia to the record over and over again, for instance.)
    It's unpretentious music, but has some levels of depth beneath the surface. I just don't want to build up your expectations (although obviously I don't want to bring them down too low, either). Let's say there's more to this than meets the eye. It's difficult to suggest a "typical" song, because although he has his own unmistakable "sound signature", his music varies over a huge range. Tim said it was "just pop" - which is true, but only if you allow pop to be more than just something disposable to plaster a sonic background scene with.
    I"ll just give you a starting link to something that makes me silly and happy. *It's a Lovely Day* . It's a ridiculous song. "Circus music", I call it. But it's really good circus music. It's not just crazy and wild and absurd, just for absurdity's sake. (I just hope it's not exactly the right choice to put you off. Some of his songs take some adjusting to. This is its own genre of music. You start out sort of knowing how to listen to it, but not entirely. If the first impression is not your thing, I'd recommend looking for other songs of theirs till you find the one you like. Later on you'll come around to the others. I did, anyway, and this is what I hear from a lot of people.)
    It's the live version. (I like it best of all of them.) ua-cam.com/video/geGdWgP-gi0/v-deo.html
    (Great thing about listening to it is afterwards you're allowed to join the Illuminati if you want. You'd be surprised at the Tim Smith fan base who's who. There are some who have heard it foretold that the first thing Jesus will do when he returns is get himself a vinyl copy of _Sing to God_ -- but that's another story for another day. Might just be a rumour, too.)

    • @sicko_the_ew
      @sicko_the_ew Рік тому

      I'd better give a backup link just in case It's a Lovely Day doesn't make your day. (It would be wrong to expose you to the risk of not getting the chance to learn how to become cult-indoctrinated in Cardiacs.)
      If it's a bit of a miss, maybe kill it and try *Nurses Whispering Verses* ua-cam.com/video/tiVOEHIHuzU/v-deo.html It's completely different. Not at all like circus music, for starters. The bears might start doing weird things if they rode their bicycles to the sound of this.
      (There's quite a lot of music in this, and it's something you could actually dance to at parties if you don't mind going a bit spazz at times. It's roughly two songs in one, where the second one starts out in the background and gradually moves into the foreground. The initial song is pretty much a straight up rock banger, and the song it becomes is something a bit more "late Jean Michel Jarre" - ... listen rather. I'm not going to succeed in describing it.)

    • @sicko_the_ew
      @sicko_the_ew Рік тому

      OK, one more bit of "insurance". Instead of heading up to the lighter side, I'll just dive straight into the deep end, with a song that can take a long time to get into (just because of the "literal uniqueness problem" mentioned earlier). *Jitterbug - junior is a* - but the a cappella cover by "The 180G's" (who might just be a certain David Minnick, although they have a music video that proves they're a real band). ua-cam.com/video/bmxNKMO2kjA/v-deo.html
      (Every "instrument" you hear is either something like a table being struck by a human hand, or a human voice. You'll lose sight of this if you let it run.)
      Did I mention that it's a very strange song? I think I did. Of course I did. But it's a very strange song. It's one of the few he had to actually write down on paper in later times. (He stopped scoring out every tiny little detail at some point, but this was an exception to that new rule.) He said it just arrived one morning when he woke up (if I remember correctly), and he couldn't sleep until he'd finished it, so spent the next 36 hours, straight, getting it down on paper. Then he went to sleep and he forgot it. Woke up with the feeling that this thing had just arrived from somewhere. Something like that. (He remembered as the day went on, but initially it was like a strange thing that had appeared from nowhere.)
      Odds are, you won't "get it" first time round. (I know I didn't, and I've heard quite a few people say the same.) Very bad suggestion, though. But that's OK. The other suggestions are pretty good starter songs, I think.

    Hi Silas. Love your PF music reactions, but if you want to see your subs go through the roof, try something completely different, like PTX. They have a massive following and have billions of UA-cam views. You mentioned in your PF DSM reaction about voice ranges and quality, and PENTATONIX will blow your mind. But don't expect heavy metal. They do a range of music genres and covers, as well as originals. I would suggest you start with Bohemian Rhapsody. I won't give away the surprise, but react with Olivia and watch your subs skyrocket. If you do a PTX vid be sure to stop regularly, discuss, back up a bit and repeat. Sony are very protective and will hit you with a copyright infringement if you don't. And I'll sub if you do. 😊Nah, I'll sub anyway. (In hope)

    Have never been a fan of heavy metal. I'm sure there are good HM songs out there, but I wouldn't know because I have never listened to HM. The minute or so of this song that I listened to was the same old thing -- loud and repetitive. Probably would be cool at a concert. Letting yourself go -- doing the headbanging thing. But it's like listening to rap music -- same beat over and over with anti-social lyrics. And again -- I have heard good rap songs, but the ones that are good are less rap-y than other rap songs -- that's why they are good.
    Less rap , less crap . I am not ridiculing HM or rap fans -- just the music. It is usually cheap music.
    Most mainstream music listeners feel this way.
    I am sure you HM fans are aware of this.
