Hey bud. I wanted to make a comment as I have raced for years and actually worked for/with an air filter company. Please understand I'm not "sniping" you or giving you a hard time. You said that the manufacturers sacrifice filtration for airflow. That's not correct. OEM filters sacrifice air flow for cost and ease of maintenance. In terms of cost, paper filters are just that... cheap. It's a compromise. Furthermore emissions factor in. What you're not mentioning is that aftermarket non oem filters (which you pay a premium for) use different materials that A. flow better due to said material and B. are used by enthusiasts that will take extra time to work on their machine. Two popular air filter materials are gause (K&N) and foam (Twin Air). Both have advantages and disadvantages but do not sacrifice particulate filtration for airflow. Due to the nature of the material, they flow better by their nature. Foam filters require more maintenance, are cheaper, but have diminishing returns. The particulates caught in the filter can not be completely washed out. Gause filters flow better and can be washed better but are inferior in sandy conditions without a pre-filter.
I recommend HIGHLY taking that air intake pre filter off. As I stated you'll be blocking more particulate materials, but you're sacrificing airflow and more importantly air temperature. IAT's are crucial on vehicle without mass air sensors. Finally if you're worried about particulate ingestion make sure you're actually getting foreign material past the filter. I recommend using a borescope to see what your situation is past the filter. And AND if you are getting particulate ingestion, then it's more likely an airbox seal issue and not the filter.
I hope this helps and I'm not coming across as a dick. If you look at my channel, all we do is race offroad. The can ams I race have a pre-filter on our cvt's and the first thing we do is remove it as in sandy races the dust build up super heats the cvt. It's better to blow out the cvt and change a belt then DNF a race or melt a belt. Conversely it's better to have a little bit of dirt in your filter than your fuel controller having to dump fuel and foul plugs due to an air restriction issue. I dunno, something to think about. I'm wrong all the time, but just some food for thought.

An easy way to know if dust is getting into the air filter box is to apply a thin layer of Vaseline inside the air box. Check after a week to see if there is any dust.

You HAVE TO leave the stock filter in the box, you heros.
You are creating a second INLET.
Without the filter INSIDE, the box has aN unfiltered HOLE.

I ride a 2016 gen 1 duke 390 here in JAPAN, I replaced the Air filter and added the open lid mod to the bike, and I eliminated the snorkel. Currently going to change the sprocket and add an MSD ignition, and a rekluse Torqdrive clutch. This bike is perfect for running around considering how ridiculous the traffic can get around here in Japan. Fuel X is next after all that, thinking about changing the Airbox and maybe the injector?

Hi again. I managed to install the fuel X lite without removing the tank. Not sure how 🤣. The FuelX + lamda sesor plugs are on the left side now. Exactly in front of this black cover that you point at 16:42. I like it that way, as it's easy to unplug for testing the before and after scenarios. My only concern is, Will the engine heat spoil the plug or wires if I keep it this way?

@@advinjapanI found your mods very interesting and I bought a BMC air-filter and i came to know that before installing the lid filter, it is recommended to use a fuel injector controller . So i bought the newly lunched fuel x pro plus which is claimed to have increase torque by 25% on par throttle.
I tested the product extensively and i found no difference in performance. Without fuel-x , fuel-x mode 1, fuel-x mode 3, fuel-x mode 8 and fuel-x mode 10 . Has same idling RPM. Same speed at 4k RPM at 1st,2nd and 3rd gear. Same speed and similar knocking issue (at identical rpm) on no-throttle at 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear.
I contacted the support team and as per them fuel-x is working fine but they are unable to explain why i am not seeing performance difference.
It would be great if you can do a video on with fuel-x and without fuel-x performance difference on closed loop. Is it really making a difference or just an illusion ?. I cannot find a video on youtube where influencers technically comparing with fuel-x and without fuel-x.

This is great Sachin, thanks. Though the stalling issue is not necessary isolated to one single problem. The spark plug has also been a related issue, as well as pinched fuel lines.
Finally, rider skill needs to be considered as well. The 390 has a very fast rpm roll off when cutting the throttle, which can also stall the bike if you aren’t feathering the clutch or downshifting properly. I feel like a lot of the stalling “problems” could be avoided simply by managing the clutch/ throttle and gear shifting better (myself included 😅).

On your Fuelx Lite box, does it indicate "KTM Duke/RC 390 (2012-2022) NBX-KTM-DR-390-L"?

@@advinjapan Thanks. I was shipped the Duke/RC one but Powertronic tells me it's the same. Not sure if I should get rid of it or try it. Gotta wonder, why label them differently if they're "the same"?

Yeah you got me on that one, not sure why there’s a difference in model name. The instruction in my box are for the Duke so 😂. You should be fine, it just the connector that needs to fit the bike. ADV and Duke are identical so, should be fine 👍. I’m out here now trying her out…mate, unbelievable power boost!
