I’m going to laugh so hard when Ben rocks up to Bodger’s in 15 minutes and Bodger won’t complete the quest because Ben doesn’t have the dagger to give him anymore
honestly I was expecting that too
Well played! 🫡
Ben: "This quest is glitched!"
Me: Yeah cuz you glitched it lol
oh you diabolical monster!... i love it! have you ran a dungeon befire you got the grit an devil to my dear brother
That is definitely happening 😂
Should have had this end at his hut, and he refuses to end the quest because Ben no longer has the dagger in his inventory.
That would have been gold
@@GeradussTechnically speaking, it would have been “no gold” since…you know…he didn’t complete the quest.
Maybe in Part 2
That's what I was expecting.
@@martabachynsky8545 Same, I thought it would be a complete 180 and he would get sent to get another dagger if he wanted to finish the quest.
"I'll sell the dager then."
"Sure, then you'll be re-doing the quest again."
I was half expecting Bodger to deny ever having received the dagger 😂
Or be unable to sell it as its a quest item
Goes to the shop
Shopkeeper: Oh isn’t this the dagger that bodger’s been looking for? I’m afraid I couldn’t possibly take this. I think he’s on his lunch now but his hut is just round the corner, he’ll probably be back in about fifteen minutes.
"I already have thousands of those daggers anyway, adventurer."
You want to bug the quest? Thats how you bug the quest
"Fine I'll sell it!"
"It's a quest item, it's not able to be sold and it's locked in your inventory until you complete the quest."
This is what I was looking for, this is the most realistic response to the threat of selling it
I always hated those, they take up inventory room until done, but i like games that add a space for it. Borderlands series, for instance, if you need a specific gun for quest it's provided but does not take backpack space.
@@caterpillarpillar8902 Nah theres games where I can sell quest items. I cant remember the game off the top of my head right now but I vividly remember a quest where someone asked me to get a ring for them (I think it was like their dead husband's ring or something?) but then I saw it was worth a lot of money so I just sold it. It wasnt a main quest so it didnt brick my progression or anything.
@@synapse7274 Could be some of the older games. I believe there are certain items(none game breaking) in the OG Neverwinter Nights game that you can pawn off before you completed the quest.
I'll abandon the quest.
I was waiting for Ben to stab Rowan with the knife only to find out that not only Bodger, but every NPC in the tavern is massively over-leveled.
I really thought he would do that and then realize that there'll be hell to pay!
i think this kind of content would completly be against the youtbe community guidelines or any other video platform XD
@@DonPedro921 You obviously havent watched much of Viva La Dirt League. They often have fights show. its not against the guide lines as long as you dont show "blood" and it is clear that its acting not actual violence
I think they all are because they all fight together so they have to be 100 I think
Yeah, you do NOT want to mess with the NPC's on their lunch break. They don't show their levels for a reason.
I love it when NPCs properly follow routines through the day/night cycle, it adds to the immersion and the charm of the game
Yeah, it seems weird to roll up to an NPC at like 3 AM, and they're perfectly happy to sell you stuff as if it's daytime.
NO. They should be ASLEEP in their HOUSES... not standing in a deserted street at three in the morning!!
@@tomwilson2112 it depends for what. If I rescued their daughter, I expect the quest to complete and have a reaction. Is not like: you can give me my daughter in the morning. But something mundane, like retrieve some papers or something, that can wait.
Gothic
This. I love games where NPCs actually have lives of their own and are not all standing around, waiting for the "Chosen One" (you) to show up.
I'm the exact opposite, I hate waiting for stuff like that. Less annoying if you can rest or meditate the time away, but it's a big problem if you have a quest that has a limited time on it.
I never thought that Bodger would have so much patience. He's basically a saint, I would've stood up way earlier
“Oh, hey Bog-“ *punched to oblivion*
Usually that's how it is. The higher level you are, the less likely it is you would lose your temper, and the less likely you would actually want to engage because you understand the damage that you could do. It's usually like that in real life...
That's the real him.
@@souldancersbyjennifer weirdly true. Also seems to be a thing with dogs too...
The thing is, Ben is really his client who pays for his continual existence. He's really standing up for himself against his boss' boss.
I love that fact that appart from slightly raising his voice, Bodger remains perfectly calm throughout.
"Sorry, I couldn't quite hear you" - When Bodger got up... Perfect! 🔥

I had an uncle who was road raging at this dinky little VW-Beatle-sized car. They wind up both pulling into the same parking lot, so crazy uncle goes over to car and starts screaming at the driver. The driver opens the door and unfolds himself into a 6'6" absolute Schwarzenegger of a dude. My uncle just runs into the store and I had to spend 15 minutes to find him.
(oh no - transfer aggro, transfer aggro)
"Erm, it was him! He made me say it!"
I wonder what level his identical twin cousin in Darkwood is.
I love how Greg has gone from owning a small house to a bustling tavern. Now if only he can get his wife and kid back…
It would make him happy and break the game. Not going to happen :(
Why do you think he can afford this?
No woman, no cry.
That was so sad when the devs took her away
what's sadder is they didn't delete his memory of it either...that's really sticking in the knife and giving it a good hard twist@@funkymunky7935
He is good at Selling garlics
My thoughts immediately went to every employee who ever got harassed by coworkers, bosses, or customers during their lunch break.
Yes, absolutely, same here. Had that even when I had a Please don't disturb sign on my office door. People just ignored that. Incredible 😂

You have the easiest job in the world. Better make that drink tapped water my friend. No alcohol for those who play in easy
Even with someone as kind as Bodger, you must adhere to, "let me finish my break."
Kind? Who are you, Greg’s wife?
@@DissociatedWomenIncorporatedwhat wife? 😂
@@CaptainKandice the one Bodger stole!
Lunch _and_ a book? That's sacred!
@@DissociatedWomenIncorporatedwasn't that Fred's wife?
This actually happens periodically in Skyrim. An npc, say a smithy like the one in Riften, sometimes shuts down the “for sale” part of their dialogue options during lunch, and Adrianne of Whiterun often goes missing until after lunch.
Adrianne also goes into the shop for supper. Before she goes in, she has her own coin supply and inventory, but as soon as she goes inside she and Ulfberth share ONE purse and inventory. I always make sure to stop by the Bannered Mare for a quick nap to set the ingame time to 9am, leaving me plenty of time to sell to her, and then to her husband inside.
@@lerkzorAlso, she frequently goes up to Dragonsreach to visit with her father the Steward.
Witcher 3 also. Many NPCs follow a schedule, don't open at night, and periodically wander off from their posts.
And the Raven Rock merchants are lazy as fuck. Sometimes they are still not working at noon. I know Miraak is kidnapping them at night but I also don't care.
i always wondered what happend to her, i spend so much time very specifically at her stall doing blacksmithing just about every grinding out orcish armor and iron daggers that i never even noticed lmao
Glad to see Honeywood NPCs are properly unionized
Bodger is just an entrepreneur that gets to set his times at his leisure...
what will be more hilarious is when the player returns to the hut but requires the dagger to complete the quest
Lol he would 😂
I left the dagger on the table, you need it with you to complete the quest,
but I gave it to you....
Yes because you insisted I hold it I asked you to bring it to the hut.
Because he left the tavern the item despawned and he would have to go get the item again
Or he will have to buy it back from the blacksmith at 5 times the market price XD.
Bodger: Ah! Adventurer! Welcome back!
Ben: Yes, yes......All right.....NOW are you going to complete my quest?
Bodger: Certainly! Do you have my dagger?
Ben: ....Wait.....What?! I just gave it to you?
Bodger: ....No you didn't......
Ben: Yes, I did!
Bodger: When?
Ben: Back.....Back at the pub while you were having your lunch break!
Bodger: Oh, yes! .......So......Do you have my dagger?
Ben: NO, BECAUSE I *GAVE IT TO YOU!*
Bodger: .....Well, sorry, Adventurer, but it would seem that I don't have the dagger in my possession, meaning that you must never have given it to me, so......Where is it?
Ben: *I GAVE IT TO YOU!*
Bodger: Listen, I don't have it, meaning, NO, I am not completing your quest! Now, go get me my dagger, so that you can complete your quest!
Ben: ......You SUCK, Bodger! *Turns and walks away.*
Bodger: *Slowly pulls dagger out of a pouch and stares at it while chuckling before looking up at Ben.* Sucker!
Love how high level NPCs are really "Adventurers" themselves and are just "Busy" and want someone else to do their work for them. The whole "Level 100" tells a story in of itself.
Remember that episode where Ben became a quest giver after doing a lot of blacksmithing for other players? Maybe that's where Bodger came from ;)
I used to be an adventurer like you. Then I discovered the crafting skill tree.

@@WickedScott Agreed. I don't mind being courteous but some of them fail/refuse to understand that they're getting the courtesy they should reasonably expect from a fellow customer at that point, not an employee... because I don't have any more ability to help them than that. No department keys, no ability to log in to the register, no ability to check our inventory, NO STORE LOGOED VEST to even identify me as an employee, but they'll demand it for no better reason than that I'm the first employee they saw once they decided they needed help.
Gonna start wearing jeans and t-shirts to work on the off-chance that the inability to grasp that "dressed nice" DNE "on the clock" is part of the problem and I think I'll be starting with the shirts I just ordered from VLDL....

Boger after defeating Kelothak, coming back to Honeywood to continue his work as blacksmith:
I was thinking the same thing!
the bit with bodger unfolding up from his seat to reveal his level and danger rating is so perfect lmao

Bodger looks cute in those classes. I love the idea of him reading a good book on his lunch break.
I'm sure it was a book about fishing .
@@eaglerider1826 Hoo-HAH!
I believe you're mistaken. Bodger is learning to be civilized, and working on his table manners. That is a book full of napkins.

He didn't even go there to Give Bodger the Dagger, he just saw Bodger and was like, "Oh, that's something I should do while I'm here." It wasn't even top priority. He couldn't have respected the man's lunch break? If I was in that kind of situation in a game, I'd either go do something else, or just take a break with Bodger. Eat some cheap food, Maybe Bodger would have some Unique Dialogue options while on his Break. Then Follow Bodger to the place he said to give him the dagger at. It's not that much of an Inconvenience that he's on his break.
>It wasn't even top priority.
who asked whos to bring the dagger?
It's not like he wanted to sell trash he picked up. He was asked to find dagger.
It's like you asked someone for help and then when they provide it you begin behave like monkey.
Try it IRL after asking for help I dare you.
@@delta_glider4362 Ok. Let's say you hire someone and You tell them to get you a bunch of paperwork. They have a few days to get this to you. They get the paperwork, and the next time they see you is while you are on your lunch break at a local restaurant. They go to your table, and hand you the paperwork. Try that with someone who has employed you and see what happens.
@@delta_glider4362 Curious. If someone asked you for help moving furniture to a new home and you happen to meet them at a restaurant, would you immediately demand they stop eating so you can help them move? In real life that would be insane. This skit isn't much different. He's not working right now, there's no reason to expect him to do business. As a quest giver, that quest is part of his job and he's currently off the clock. Feeling entitled to someone else's time, whenever you feel like it, is "behaving like a monkey".
If Bodger is lv 100 I can't even imagine what level Baelin is
Im convinced that Bodger is secretly self aware but he wont admit it so that he doesnt have to pay taxes
His tax is having to talk to adventurers.
I have a theory that Baelin is self aware as well but was outspoken about it and the game moderators silenced him by only allowing him one line of dialog. I also think Greg is becoming self aware but is trying to deny his realisations.
I wonder if they will bring back that npc thats on the run from the moderators.
@@playdg that's a high price ngl
@@crazydoggentleman7930In one of the podcasts Alan mentioned that his original idea for Epic NPC Man was an NPC that becomes aware they're in a game. Then the group ran with it.
I've thought that all of the NPCs that aren't important lore figures (Baradun, for example) are self-aware on some level, but NPCs like Greg aren't "important" enough to really alter much. At least not beyond things like giving him a wife then removing her.
@@DissertatingMedievalI'm not sure if this is an accurate ranking, but Most Self Aware NPCs in NPC Man would be Greg, Bodger, and our favorite muggers Charles and Bernard. Somewhere in the middle would be Baelin (despite his limited dialogue), and Baradun. Least self-aware would be Eugene and the 'For the peace of the kingdom!' guards, though Fred Orchardson and Freda would be close runners up.
I love that you're using the tavern set for a lot of Epic NPC Man sketches now. It looks really amazing.
E
I half expected Rowan to increase the time each time Ben asked. Come back in 15 minutes, 20 minutes, etc.
I would have also enjoyed a real-time argument. Wherein Bodger takes 13 minutes to finish his soup, then 2 minutes to walk back to the forge saying no the hole time. 😂😂
I mean npcs In fallout will do that "can't talk right now" goes back to eating. Loop and repeat. Gets up and starts to walk back "see me back at my shop"
Back at shop but open hour is still 60 seconds off "talk to me at my shop during business hours"
70 seconds later "ah your here! So you got the skull of Raul?"
This is absolutely precious lol. NPC's having their own lives and telling players to f*ckoff is spectacular. Love the sketches guys.
just love how the quest log has a bunch of side quests, followed by the bright red emergency of CITY UNDER SIEGE, and the afterthought of Rescue Fred's Daughter
absolutely, love the details, always 😂
They built an entire set with so much details and so many background characters all in costume for this short video. The effort blows my mind. Amazing guys!
That set is just their tavern set, not built specifically for this video. It's used in their DnD campaigns and other videos.
@@AprehamLincoln - Swan's got a point about the extras, though....
Honestly, I thought from the beginning... "Wouldn't it be odd if he had whatever the quest reward was just on his person? Some players would think that's odd if the reward was some armor or a significant sum of money and he was just having lunch with that at his side." Really happy how that turned out
Good for Bodger! Gotta set those work/life boundaries and stick to 'em.
Y'all, I feel this one in my soul. As just a regular employee running a store on my own some days, I did not get the luxury to tell people to piss off when I was eating my lunch. Bodger's got it made, being his own boss.
Sounds like you need to level up to 100 :P
only people who works retail would know how it feels…i get interrupted by other customers when i’m clearly serving/ assisting one at the moment & it’s like they think they’re on different servers or something
Now I just realized that the NPCs are not just overpowered by developers. They are living in this world soo long so they are incredibly strong to the limits and still are kind to us.
Some of them are a little TOO kind. (side-eyes Liam the Darkwood Leather worker)
Ngl I wish there were taverns like this in general. I love the style and feel I get from it
Ben should have understood since Bodger not being in his stall would mean he probably doesn't have the reward.
I feel like this at work all the time when customers walk up while chilling. So goddamn relatable.
"We npc's have already established we're self aware, so could you just please let me have one of my few joys?"
the devs decided it was better to have the NPCs maintain radiant behavior b/c it just happened to stop them from slaying players who keep using the skip function.
Am I the only one that loves the part where Rowan pauses and says "you wouldn't". Such good delivery.
IRL is like that a lot too. people don't care, their minds are set on themselves.
This is how it works when my boss doesn’t show up at the job site until 12:15 and I am just trying to relax by watching VLDL for half an hour. “I’m here now! Drop everything and pay attention to me!”
I love these guys, I've watched all their skits up to date. But this is by far my favorite. I truly believe this mechanic should be implemented into a game asap. The number of people who need this lesson is ridiculous.
This was so high quality, I love everything about it. The visuals, the acting, the writing was great AND it was very satisfying to watch someone obnoxious having to back down.
He clearly never watched Baelin's Route, or he'd know that NPCs played by Rowan are ridiculously overpowered... 😆
When Rowan stands up and turns to Ben while still eating his food made this even more epic. Good directing there.
