I'm usually very critical of claims to the film noir genre, but you have a good case here. Not all thrillers are film noir, and not all film noiŕ are thrillers. Here's to John Alton! Thanks, PizzaFlix, I enjoyed this.

How ironic, in the first few seconds of the introduction (without the video) one might think this is France today. When you fail to learn from history, it will repeat itself. Great movie :)

Someone didn't learn from history? If they did then Biden would not be in the White House! Had to shut down the borders before with President Teddy Roosevelt. One of the greatest Presidents! Calvin Coolidge now that was a big loser there wasn't it? Herbert Hoover put us into a Great Depression! DUMMIES! Except both Roosevelts Almost all Presidents were just human! Reagan turned out pretty good. Carter was clearly inapted for the job.

A truly Fabulous Film…. and indeed a well-warranted Classic.... with an uneasy "darkness" capturing The Reign of Terror that I have thoroughly enjoyed watching on so many occasions over the years!! For an insightful _Double Feature Night_ , then 'The Black Book' is definitely a good precursor followed-up by Ronald Coleman's equally rewarding performance in the 1935 film, 'A Tale Of Two Cities'..... with excellent casts and brilliant portrayals in both films!!! *THX* PizzaFlix for uploading this "historically delicious" film. ♥

Nice film. How great to discover someone new from that era. I was struck almost immediately by the terrific voice of Arnold Moss (Fouché) who I don't know I ever knew of before this. He really made the movie for me, a real stand out. Richard Basehart is always great to see.

I was heartened to see how the heroine, so recently tortured with red-hot irons and presumably treated to all manner of ghastly and crippling indignities, was able miraculously to recover in no time and give a wry smile as she emerged unruffled at the end. I suppose technically, this can be loosely called noir but I lean toward the originators of the phrase, "film noir", those French critics back in the 40s who blessed 40s & 50s crime movies with the term. Found this on google: "Film noir is a cinematic term used primarily to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual motivations. The 1940s and 1950s are generally regarded as the "classic period" of American film noir."

Bonaparte took apart the bones of the revolution
and replaced the dying skeleton of a republic with something worse than a king:
He replaced it with him as emperor and a rule far more authoritarian than a dictator.
He made friends with the rotten corrupt royals of Europe
and emulated them and tried to outdo their evil and succeeded in making the idea of a red revolution repugnant to all lter generations.
To this day nobody except me: Indrek Pringi have ever had the intelligence to notice
exactly how the burgeoning ideals of Liberty, Equality and fraternity
were spat upon and ruined and destroyed before they could blossom.
The Truth and fact is still UNCHANGED
You insects will never shake off your shackles unless you KILL
    the money-class DEAD.
Not one of you have the guts to kill a banker.
If you killed all of the bakers of the world you would be free of their oppression and evil
but none of you fucking insects ever will.
