What a wonderful completion (although partial…) of a dream. Congratulations to Mary and the great folks of Shelter Institute! Hope we can see it totally complete.
I have had the wonderful experience of taking Shelter courses with this family and crew My experience is such that all of the family and crew walk a life of love, compassion, passion and a genuine willingness to serve mankind. The educational experience was great but being with Blueberry, Gaius, Pat, Gade and all the other folks was truly amazing. May God grant you all longevity and love and peace for yourselves and all the lives you touch. If someone has the chance to take even a simple course with these folks in beautiful Maine it is a wonderful experience that can change lives. Brian Petrocine
Mary, thank you for sharing your dream with us. Even though your husband isn’t physically with you, I’m sure he’s so proud of what you have accomplished. Shelter Institute, you all are amazing! Thanks for sharing this build with us.
Love it, love it, love it! Thanks for putting this build on the YT channel. It's beautiful. I am currently 1/2 way into the Shelter Insititute Purely Post & Beam online course. Definitely worth the purchase and I am learning a lot! Thanks, guys!
As a Widower, Mary's Story is Very Familiar to Me! I'm Happy To Know She Is Fulfilling THEIR Dream and Shelter Institute Made It Come True with Another Beautiful Work of Art! Congratulations Mary! Your Home Is Stunning, and I Hope It Brings You Some Peace! Why Aren't Sips More Commonly Used Over Conventional Framing? ☮️💜🇺🇸
Please don't get me wrong- i love the videos showing the timber framing/SIP install. Have you considered showing the rest of the process of finishing the house? (Plumbing, windows/doors, etc)
Thank you for watching! Right now our part of the build process is design/engineering and installation of the first floor platform, timber frame and SIP shell. Generally our clients work with a GC we recommend or one they know for all of the finishing work.
Some beautiful craftsmanship that's gone into that timber frame building, but I'm puzzled by some of the choices of materials for insulation, but maybe woodfiber insulation just isn't big in the US? I would have thought you'd want a breathable building.
You are building miracles with the help of God! Cheers from Poland, I love your channel, your tutorials, your tool reviews, keep on going Gaius :) much love
Great job and beautiful framework! 👍 Only thing to mention may be some crack in one of the curved upper braces - I wonder how this crack will develop over time regarding temperature and moisture changes. I would prefer some well seasoned hardwood like oak there .
Great question! We have a full in house design and engineering team that allows us to make almost any custom design possible, flatter roof pitches included!
Great Episode and nice house again! I know that sips have a lot of positive aspects, but i just can't get over how all the small styrofoam bubbles lay everywhere. I've been pulling these up in our area from the ground forever from regular outside-wall insulation. Just wish there was a way to reduce the amount. Have you ever experimented with wood fiber insulation boards/matts? Don't know if the building codes allow them for you, i'm not from the US.
We do have that in the US! If structural panels could be made in up to 4’ x 24’ / 8’ x 24’ sizes with a wood fiber core it would be incredible to experiment with!
I'm not crying... beautiful story and building. Hope Mary enjoys every second in that home.
Thanks Gaius and everyone for letting me relive the build experience! You guys were and are Stellar

We feel incredibly lucky to be able to play a small role in bringing Mary’s vision to fruition!
Not a "Small Role" at all ! It's the main event
Congratulations on your new house Mary, and may your husband's memory always be a blessing.

You put the Old Man's ashes in the foundations? You are a lovely, wonderful person.

@ShelterInstitute understood and fair enough. Just thought I'd try :)
I think that made everybody cry a bit...

Are your roof pitches always 12/12? Do you ever do a flatter roof?

Is that structure one of the kits? How much for a completed build?
This project is a fully custom design and build. Please reach out to clayton@shelterinstitute.com for all design build information!
