Went to my Retro Gamestop the other day, only saw Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 games out, then found the little cabinet of DS games, started looking, one of the employees came over and said he had more games behind the counter, he opened a drawer and had all N64, Gameboy Advance and a bunch of other disc based games. He looked up the prices for me, and I found 4 for the $40 sale that was going on. Left happy!
@@MrWrightWay How's Gamestop's boot taste, by the way? Just curious, since hiding the things retro game customers are most likely to be interested in is, indeed, lame.

Gamestop is doing things smart by going into retro sale. Retro is awesome for us older gamers who appreciate games from the past and have also seen how the game market has evolved since the late 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s.
I remember when GameStop sold GameCube games, crazy how Wii is considered retro now. Back then those were the latest haha 😆. 360, PS3, Wii, it was an amazing era

A Super Mario Bros 2 NES for $25 buck? (24.99) Most resellers would price em for $100 bucks. EVEN! If it's in worst conditions smh it's a 50/50 chances it might not even work anymore smh
Wow Funcoland. My eyes would light up when I saw those different colored letter spelling Funcoland. In those days I lived in Camden, NJ and Funcoland was in Moorestown, a few minutes away past the Cherry Hill Mall. Man, those were the best days.
This actually makes me want to go to GameStop again. Great video and great finds! Especially the CIB games? GameStop really showing off now and I think is going to win back a lot of people
Solid video! It would be cool if GameStop would do retro decor in some of their flagship stores that see higher volume. It would be pretty nostalgic to see an old Babbages or Funcoland setup like back in the early 90s.
This is great, but the only way GameStop will be able to capitalize is to sell these retro games for cheaper prices than retro gaming stores. Their selection has to go back to at least the atari days to compete. Retro gaming stores these days sell literally everything, but their prices can be really high at times. So let's see what GameStop does with this. In my opinion, this is something GameStop should've never stopped doing in the first place. I remember when they had all these old games back in the days.
Younger GameStop employee / retro gamer here. I'm able to recognize fake games from the retro generation. always surprises my older coworkers. GameStop is trying in the retro game section but gamers beware many can't spot fakes. If you know retro games you can definitely catch them lacking at points
I left working part-time at GameStop recently, but I'm also on the younger side. Same deal here, I was always able to tell a fake from a real almost instantly. When I went to another location to buy a Pokemon Gold they'd gotten in, they had fell for a very clear fake.
The funny thing is stores (probably still) had the retro games. According to what I heard (as a GameStop worker myself), they had stores send most, if not all, of their retro games to the Retro specific stores. 🙂
I think what GameStop had this planned the whole time taking all they retro games and been keeping them hidden in the warehouse, and waiting to bring them back out I remember GameStop used to have so many retro games
They need to bring this up to NYC so I can go in on some retro games... and gamestop should've never stopped buying, selling and trading ps1, ps2, OG xbox, gamecube, snes, and n64 etc
I grew up with the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube and onwards, and even got to play the consoles from the 90's and 80's. I was lucky to have family to either give me handme downs, to buying a new console at the time, and play the snot out of it. I was able to beat MGS1 and 2 when i was seven, took me longer than an adult at the time, but after the first playthrough, i was on par with the timing, maybe a bit better, but couldn't get passed hard mode 😅
I remember a gamestop employee told me that they were going to start selling retro games i think sometime in 2022/early 2023. Glad to see it finally come to fruition! Albeit its only certain gamestop locations so far. Haven’t bought anything yet but I do know many people would love to get their old systems from gamestop!
Glad to see most of their stock is reasonably priced. The prices u see on some of this stuff on eBay and Offer up makes me think some ppl aren't just delusional but fkn high on mushrooms and LSD.
13:04 not in games so much, but definitely in a Nintendo magazine called Nintendo Force. There's only one magazine every two months (6 total in a year), but every magazine comes with an awesome poster that highlights one or two of the games from the current magazine. Definitely check that magazine out 👍
@MrWrightWay I lived above a GameStop in college, and I found plenty of "Field Destroyed" games when I would take out my garbage. They took a razor blade to the discs.
Florida here, when they bought out Rhino they also damaged out vintage stock. I knew someone that worked there during the transition. They had all the retro stuff on sale for a few weeks, then everything that didn't sell got hit with a hammer and thrown in the dumpster. This was like 07, so we're taking vintage cartridge based games.
They have always field destroyed games, many times because they have too many in stock, but the worst was around 2004 when they just field destroyed everything Dreamcast and Older. My local store had a dumpster 3/4 full. The stuff you saw may have been stuff they were not allowed to take in, or stuff that was overstocked. Gamestop never stopped selling 360/PS3, so it had to have been either overstock you were finding. Thankfully the local stores don't take the time to field destroy stuff, so I found lots of overstock in the dumpers from 2015-2020, and traded it in to other stores.

They could hopefully get the video game companies involved to make NEW OLD merchandise and promo materials. Maybe gamestops future better serves as a retro game cafe than as a retailer. As of now they still don't have an identity for how they want to go about it between treating it as a goodwill bin display or boutique collector store pricing.
My local Gamestop has a tall glass case dedicated to retro games. The original poster is right; it’s not for collectors. $59 for Shaq-FU is a joke. Most of their retro games are missing their boxes and manuals, but this doesn’t decrease their value either. They ask full market value for their games, which would normally be a complete CIB version on eBay.

GameStop is in a unique position getting into the retro business. They already have a lot of locations they can sell at as well as the capital to truly invest into it. If they do it well and are fair with pricing they could actually HELP the retro scene quite a bit by keeping a lot of these other retro stores honest because a lot of them over charge quite a bit to be frank. If GameStop undercuts them it'll force them to stop with the forced inflation on many games which is awesome for collectors. Like an example is I found ultimate Spider-Man for the og Xbox for 20 bucks at GameStop! Great condition too. I've been wanting to add it to my collection for awhile but most places were selling it from like 50 all the way to nearly a hundred bucks.
The prices aren’t terrible surprisingly. I’d be willing to pay a little over market value since at GameStop, you’re gonna more than likely be able to see the games before you buy them. A slight up charge is worth it for the assurance that the game will work, at least in my opinion
I scored Red Dead Redenption in pretty darn good condition for like 12 or 16 bucks from Gamestop Retro with the manuel and poster still inside. Way better than the 40 to 60 I usually see it for at an actual retro store. It was a pretty great find.
a couple weeks ago all the gamestops near me were doing 4 for $10 on used games $5 and under, and 4 for $20 on used games $10 and under. I got loads of ps3 and xbox 360 games for a pretty good deal.
I work at GameStop part time so with my discount I’ve been lucky to get some great finds. Like resident evil 4 for GameCube for $20, star fox assault for $20 and sonic adventure 2 battle for $30 ALL CIB

We have a small local chain called Game Pawn there real frustrating they can have a nice clean cib game and have the identical game say disc or cartridge with reprinted cover art and be charging the exact same price for both. Plus there prices tend to be a dollar or two over price charting. I really wish I would have never sold a 40 year collection It would have made the start of a great retro game store. My gamestops in kentucky has several bangers recently picked up liberty city stories ps2 classic gta 2 gta 4 tomadachilife gta 5 for 3$ on the ps3 deadpool for 35$ on the ps3 same with x-men origins wolverine
You convinced me to visit a retro gamestop now.
Hell of a deal , I was able to score a pretty decent deal on FB marketplace a guy had Scarface for the ps2 damn near mint , complete too , got it from for $20 bucks , couldn’t believe it lol
I remember playing the ps2 at this point my PS2 is soft modded I can easily play backups without giving them my money
I was bummed when I went into a couple of my local GameStop for the 4 for $40 deal and they stopped it early. It was supposed to run through 8/31 and they shut it down on 8/26. Bait & switch tactics 🤬
What's crazy is I live in San Francisco and the closest one, according to the site, is in San Jose, 43.94 miles away. You'd think there'd be one in San Francisco.
@@FoggyBadger there’s a GameStop in Colma and only one left in sf is in stonetown mall I believe.
Its awesome Gamestops are selling more retro games, I just wish my Gamestops had more PS Vita games and games that aren't all Call of Duties or sports, not that they are bad I just want the higher end games!
i was born before the ps2 lol 5 gen is when i first started gaming
I hope my local gamestop does this I’m trying to build up my ps2 collection
That battletoads background music hit me like a ton of bricks brother
Awesome! Hope they open up more Retro Stores in the MidWest 🫡💯💵
Ima have to find some of these retro GameStops
