@@RhythmGamer Yes you can, just log into your Nintendo account and de-authorize your prior systems, and all games downloaded under that account will be unusable, even if bought by the new user, as well as all game saves will be unusable.
I’ve witnessed some scummy things at GameStop, one of the worst ones was when there was this kid who went in to get a game with his I presume mother who didn’t speak much English and she was intentionally upsold by the manager so she paid extra for warranties, an edition upgrade, and a pre order on a different game without even knowing it. She came back with her I presume husband about 15 minutes later and they were needless to say NOT happy.
Its shitty that the company forces their employees to act like this, I would bring up stuff once and if i was told no id drop it, unless its a switch for a child then i would honestly tell the parent why the warranty is worth or at least was worth
GameStop is by far the worst retail store. For example, they have a literal 0 day return policy on new hardware! 0 day! Meanwhile target, Walmart, Best Buy, they all offer 14 day to 90 day no questions asks returns.
Wow, GameStop is so incompetent. Sending broken untested stuff, not wiping people's personal data, and not even taking care to ship things properly. Ngl, they really lost respect for this one
You Americans really need better personal data laws. Gamestop would be fined out the ass here in Europe for selling something with someone's data on it.
This video nicely summarizes why I haven't considered Game Stop as a legit source of games or hardware for over a decade... barely above scam level, useless "customer support", barely competitive pricing...
Same. I only go to locally owned games stores now, that actually have decent pricing, friendly staff, and quality consoles/games. And the one I use the most has 6 month warrantee on all their used consoles
@@Z3CHYD That sounds nice and wholesome... you're lucky to have such stores still available to you, US I presume? 4:50 Got a Wii U recently, you can control whatever is on the top screen with a Wii remote, Wii U Pro Controller, or anything aside from the GamePad, as that controls whatever is on the GamePad screen.
Many years ago I had a roommate who stole about $350 worth of my games and DVDs and after finding my personally marked games at a store across town I got them to print me up a receipt for the police and he got about $27.50 for everything. That should tell you a lot about who is selling these things to gamestop.
Stalling you until you were out of the warranty period and indirectly calling you a liar? Yea, they're a scam. I don't know how Gamestop continues to operate when they are this established of a company, and still don't care about their customers. How their reputation hasn't been ruined is beyond me. This is not even a new issue, it's an ongoing trend from them.
Former manager here. That refurbished PS2 came from a warehouse. That's the only way it would be cleaned to that extent and packaged like that. The other consoles were ordered, and said orders were picked up by other random stores and just sent out. The stores don't really have the means to "refurb" a console. At least when I was there. They're also supposed to wipe the consoles in store before you leave! You have to sign for it! This episode gave me nothing but flashbacks of being yelled at for not selling GTAV to 10 years olds without IDs 😂
I've always been curious--I've heard lots of stories about wrong items shipped/nothing shipped/etc... is it possible individual stores just send out random stuff to keep the metrics up and kick the problem down the street to customer service?
@@tychosis totally possible. Just depends on the store and who's running it. Gotta watch with GameStop and retro stuff. As a former manager I can say that we used to get fake retro stuff in our inventory from the warehouse all the time. Especially when it comes to Gameboy games. I will never ship at a GameStop ever again. They treat their staff like trash and everything from the top down is mismanaged and disorganized

I bought my Gameboy Player disk from Gamestop around that time. They had it priced at 5 Euros, I asked if they would sell it for 1 Euro, and they did. They had two, I am pretty sure they threw the other one away some time later. Now they sell for 80 Euros.

By giving GameStop their old gaming stuff and GameStop just slaps a price tag and put's it out on the shelf the same day without testing/cleaning.
@@basshead. The PS3 turned 18 this year, it was released in 2006. The Xbox was released in 2001/2002 (with a very short life cycle, because it was replaced by the Xbox 360 in 2005). So yes, both consoles are actually retro.
When I heard "retro" I was expecting the newest thing there to be a N64, PS2 if we're stretching what retro is. And then I watched the video and the PS2 was the oldest thing he got.
Good thing about that PS2 you bought is that you can soft mod it with Free McBoot and if you were to ever do that i would recommend the SD memory card thing for storing all your legit owned games because the USB port on all PS2's are USB1.1 which is technically CD speeds so DVD games will stutter, and the memory card slot is closer to DVD speeds.
gamestop retro will fail, the older game systems are going up in price and why would people go get $50 for a ps2 when you can sell it online used for $80 or more
There are always people who need $ right away with whatever electronics they have, and would rather sell to a company quoting them a definitive amount rather than haggle with strangers on a better price.

It will fail, but not because the older games are going up in price, quite the opposite. They are actually mostly going down, atleast for common stuff. Prices exploded during covid (partially due to people treating retro stuff as investments, which didn't work out for them) and are now declining. There are games that are still rising, but I'd be very, very surprised if such a game ever ended up on a Gamestop shelf. You're a better man than I, Austin. If that would have been my order, I would've went to the nearest GameStop to me and thrown the boxes at the employees. Such a trash company, selling trash products while offering trash customer service. How they are still in business is astonishing.
One quick question: The Injustice box had a "Pegi 16" label on it...isn't that the overseas version of the ratings system? Which would make that game in the PAL format? Is this just a case of it being region locked (are WiiU's region locked?), or am I barking up the wrong tree here? By the by...if it is in fact region locked, it was 100% the responsibility of Game Stop to list it as such to keep purchases like this from happening.
They are also supposed to be tested in a system to ensure it works before taking it in. So if it was region-locked, it wouldn't have worked so they shouldn't have accepted it.
Honestly all the retro stores near me suck booty they’re way overpriced and 90% times the stuff they sell is broken and dirty not to mention the entitlement they all posses for some reason
The local retro stores in my city are nothing special anymore. It's exactly the same as buying from ebay, as the shop owners are looking up the ebay prices anyway. There is barely any reason to buy from them, since all their shelves are unorganized. On ebay, I just type in what I want, but every time I go into this specific shop, I have to search about 15 minutes if they even have the game I search for. Don't get me wrong, I love physical stores to buy old stuff from. But they make it very hard to actually care.
And once you're in the Xbox, you can also remove the clock capacitor and check the other caps, the ones in the right lower corner of the mainboard (five or three, depending on your revision, 3300 microfarad/6.3V) are often bad. When they go you get a distorted image or a no power issue.
Pathetic of Gamestop to sell such horrible condition stuff considering if I had traded in that PS Vita they would've turned me away or charged me more to "refurbish" and sell it than if get back in credit.
I bought a new 3ds xl during pro-week and battery was swollen af so i immediately took that off and bought another one of Amazon and was surprised how decent it looked. Most of the items are shipped from stores and i don’t think employees give a shit anymore
I actually got my New 3DS XL for 129€ (around 140$US) last year... it was the only one in the store and it was in such good condition, even had the Yoshi covers and case from the previous owner... but I bet it was more likely the exception to the rule. Or things in the German branch are different. Anyway, sad to see brick and mortar stores being managed so badly. Gamestop stoped selling Wii/PS2/etc quite some time ago and it feels like they want a slice of the retro cake they threw out years ago...
FYI: if you order something from the Gamestop website or app and want to return it, you can do a return at any of their stores as long as you have the packing slip/order form.
My local GameStop accepted retro games and consoles. They had tons of consoles. Then when the GameStop Retro initiative started, they moved all of the retro inventory to a store 15-20 minutes away. What’s the point of putting more emphasis on “retro” if you were already accepting retro hardware and software and now only certain “special” stores do???? GameStop is so mismanaged. I still get my physical releases from them, in no small part because the Pro membership pays for itself with its $5/month coupons, but I don’t know how much longer I can turn a blind eye to how incompetent they are. But I also like supporting my local stores and their employees. It’s not as black and white as saying “GameStop sucks stop supporting them.”
114$ for that Wii U really hit hard when you know the guy that traded that in got 40 bucks of in store credit a gamestop put zero effort into cleaning or formatting the console. They gave the dude a 40 dollar gift card, took that console, dropped it in the box and sold it to you for 114 haha. My local pawn shop called Coin Mart does more as far as testing and cleaning and is cheaper
I'll never order from gamestop again. I ordered Crisis Core FF7 for the switch. I paid for it to come brand new, but when it showed up in the mail it was only the case with no game anywhere to be found. I tried for days getting a refund or something, but basically the people I talked to said they didn't believe me, and anyone could order a new game open it and say it never came. I was flabbergasted. I just gave up, and said never again will I order from them so I just bought it digitally. So. I paid for it twice and still have an empty case that occasionally stares into my soul.
You should have threatened to dispute it with your bank, and then if they still didn’t send you a copy, you should have actually disputed it with your bank.
@jamiem2494 Unfortunately, I've never even heard that term before. I only ordered the game cause I couldn't find it locally, and to be fair I still shop at the local gamestops because the people there have been great to me and my nephew. I have never had a company just straight up accuse me of lying like that though. It was insane. Honestly, money isn't even a huge deal. So, $60 is a cheap lesson learned it could've been much worse. I will just order from somewhere else next time I need to because I've never experienced anything like that anywhere else before.
I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your style. It feels like you're talking to the audience but the cameraman/people are allowed to talk back and forth with you. It seems way more engaging than most videos in this genre.
i got a display unit ps2 + an og controller + kingdom hearts for $90 (before tax), the console was cleaned inside and out and fully functional. if you're buying from them i'd highly recommend getting a console on display as they seem to be much higher quality
Protip: if the Xbox's disc drive sounds like it starts to come out but is being stopped (a sort of hollow plasticky tap), give it a light knock on the roof right above the disc drive _just after it makes that sound._ If timed right, it should be jostled enough to overcome getting so barely blocked in.
I recently left the company after being there for 5 years, personally non of that should have been sent out. There are very few employees left who actually care anymore, the company does not put anything back into their employees anymore. I cant tell you how many times I've seen employees do underhanded shit and get praised for it but the employees who try to do what's best for the customer get written up.
Man working in a gamestop must be amazing... not many customers depending on where you live so you dont have to do much And crazy how people (including gamestop) want 200-300 for a ducking 3ds -_-
You're probably right, but that also means your manager will be breathing down your neck making sure you push every new product to every customer that comes in.
I worked at one for 2 years and yeah of the pay was straight garbage i wouldve stayed. It was just me and one other co-worker playing switch games with the occasional customer
Not a GameStop, but another game store that I worked at: While not very busy, GOD they try their hardest to MAKE you busy. Testing/cleaning cartridges daily, rearranging stock and inventory counts. "iF yOu HaVE tImE tO LeAn, yOu hAvE tImE to ClEaN"
I tried to also buy a Wii U from GameStop a couple weeks ago and I got one that reeked of smoke, dust bunnies galore, a black skin over the entire console, a gamepad with one obviously chewed on joystick, sticky buttons, and that wouldn’t even connect to the system. Not to mention the thing wasn’t wiped and I couldn’t seem to navigate any of the menus
Hey Austin, So as a GS employee some things i wanted to share. I'm not sure what the point of the "retro" stores are. Most of our stores that are non retro just hold onto the retro merch. 95% of ALL online orders with gamestop are just shipped for the closest store to you. Gamestop close some distribution centers a while back and their idea was to "make the store the warehouse" so we have two rolls of tape. a clear one for stuff we box in store like trades and then a brown one that we use for Ship from store orders (aka almost all online stuff) so it gives the illusion it's coming from a warehouse. Its kind funny as they are pushing "web in store" orders but telling us to say its coming from the warehouse. They used to print the zip code of the store your package shipped form on the boxes but I haven't looked in a while to see if that is still there.
I recognize the Jamboree Marketplace GameStop. When I was last there, several people came in asking if it was a retro store. They all got sent to another store in Aliso Viejo. Disappointing.
To see GameStop’s incredibly poor quality compared to the retro-resell chain stores in the UK is shocking. It can’t be that hard to quality test products and actually send the correct ones (and our stores at least have warranties and return policies they actually stick to)
80$ bucks for that dsi is OUTRAGEOUS I got a near MINT condition dsi from my local game store for 99 cad only gripe was that it had a 2ds stylus not a dsi one barley had any scratches on the screen and the average amount of scratches for the top shell
It's insane because GameStop has refurbished used consoles for decades already. What it sounds like is when you make an online order, it gets sent to the nearest location with all the items on hand and then mails them out. Explains the quality inconsistency with the Wii U and PS2
Damn the prices for the dsi XL, og Xbox and especially the PS2 are insane, there's no reason for it's price to hike so much considering you normally couldn't get rid of them
I was a manager at gamestop around the time this retro stuff started. So what happened is everything except the PS2 was shipped from a random store somewhere, not from a warehouse, so pretty much these underpaid employees who don't care just kinda threw them in the box and just took them in trade without checking or cleaning them. The PS2 was the only thing that was actually shipped from a warehouse and actually refurbished
Recently I brought a red wii at my local gamestop and it too wouldn't read any discs. I had to return it a week later but they were nice about it and gave me no hard time. Still a bit annoying that Gamestop isn't testing these consoles. I get they don't get paid well and it's a tiring process but it's the job of the company to be on top of these things.
This is why I stopped giving GameStop my business years ago. They've become an absolute joke in multiple aspects, including their customer service. It's so on brand for them to mess up almost every part of the order, then blame the customer and not want to believe them when they call to say almost everything in it had some kind of issue
I’ve messed around with Game Stop online before. I can attest that they OFTEN send the wrong things. Like, that has happened to me around 20-30% of the time. However, all my stuff usually works so I haven’t dealt with that.
People are asking silly money for them that's not the same as them costing that much. I bought a psp 1000 and psp 3000 both cost less than $40. Both of them in good condition no scratches at all on screen. Didn't even take much looking around to get them
Games are expensive as well. I remember getting my copy of Daytona USA 2001 for about £5 in 2012. I happened to notice how much it is currently being bought for, not just listed but bought, and it's going for around £70+. Other games have bizarre prices, Sonic Adventure 2 is randomly £80+ while the first game is only £10-£20. Skies of Arcadia is around £80. I have a random game called Torico (called Lunacy in other countries I think), it's a fairly nothing fmv adventure game - it regularly sells for £130+ . . . . .wtf is happening!
DUDE OH MY GOD, THAT WAS MY XBOX, I MADE THAT RING MARK AND SCRATCH WHEN I WAS LIKE 8 AND HAD TO PRY THAT THING OPEN TO PUT A DISC IN, I LOST THAT THING YEARS AGO! The controller wasn't mine so they must've paired it with some random spare. Could I maybe get it back? My sister took it with her to college to play movies and i never saw it again after that.
How is Gamestop not being audited in some way so all their warehouses/stores are thoroughly checked for quality assurance? Watching this is just sickening and Gamestop still being around is crazy to me
former gamestop worker here, the trade in steps we would go through would never allow any of this to happen. first, we test the consoles with the customer there so we can tell them "hey this isnt working and we cant take it or hey this is really damaged," so we would then give them less on the trade in or sell back or just flat out not take it in as trade. we also would at least clean up the consoles before we boxed it up and labeled them. we would take in consoles that had third party controllers but we would lower the trade in value with that too because it isnt what the original came with and we wanted it to be as close to original as possible for the used consoles as well. the game not working is a crapshoot unless its very visibly scratched up or something there's not a way to test the game before accepting as trade. this just seemed like workers didnt care about the process at all and just took it because they needed trade ins which is also a weird number to put on a store.
This is actually diabolical. Also somebody got themselves a PS3 and a PSVita for the cost of an Amiibo. It's quite obvious that they simply just put the wrong label on the box.

If the system ever asks for the password or email again you won’t know it and you’ll be locked out too.
There is a reason why literally every store wipes their stuff when they trade it in.

Here in Germany, privately owned games stores pretty much have stopped existing decades ago even in mid to large cities... how I miss the days when, as a kid, I could literally walk a few minutes in find myself in a paradise of games and comic books, all with an owner who let me try out the games at his store before buying them too.
"Wasn't it twelve minutes twelve minutes ago?" Timer silently counts up to 14.

I guess editor just chose the PAL region box art for the recap, actual game and box they received is clearly the NTSC version.

The original Xbox has a dried out rubber belt. It's a very common problem. $3 replacement belt will fix it
Imagine if GameStop knew this and made things work before selling to a customer
The dsi xl has a special place in my heart because it was my first personal console that I never had to share.
I miss the early 00s retro stores from outside Nashville. They made sure anything sold to them worked first.
You shouldn't feel the need to support a corporation like them.

You really should have done a chargeback. That's what it's there for.

I’d rather buy gaming consoles at eBay than GameStop 💀
I recognize the Jamboree Marketplace GameStop. When I was last there, several people came in asking if it was a retro store. They all got sent to another store in Aliso Viejo. Disappointing.
That can’t be me 6:45
To see GameStop’s incredibly poor quality compared to the retro-resell chain stores in the UK is shocking. It can’t be that hard to quality test products and actually send the correct ones (and our stores at least have warranties and return policies they actually stick to)
At this point GameStop just needs to go out of business, they deserve it
80$ bucks for that dsi is OUTRAGEOUS I got a near MINT condition dsi from my local game store for 99 cad only gripe was that it had a 2ds stylus not a dsi one barley had any scratches on the screen and the average amount of scratches for the top shell

It's insane because GameStop has refurbished used consoles for decades already. What it sounds like is when you make an online order, it gets sent to the nearest location with all the items on hand and then mails them out. Explains the quality inconsistency with the Wii U and PS2
1:42 the whole experience? Driving around to the stores is apart of the experience.......

As someone who’s worked in GameStop for a while. They’re not paid enough to care nor does corporate have the mindset to care
old consoles are getting more and more expensive every day... PSPs were like £30 and now they're £90 ish, wth

What I think is a little funny is if you check Gamestop's trade in page they only give a single penny for the 160gb PS3 slim
former gamestop worker here, the trade in steps we would go through would never allow any of this to happen. first, we test the consoles with the customer there so we can tell them "hey this isnt working and we cant take it or hey this is really damaged," so we would then give them less on the trade in or sell back or just flat out not take it in as trade. we also would at least clean up the consoles before we boxed it up and labeled them. we would take in consoles that had third party controllers but we would lower the trade in value with that too because it isnt what the original came with and we wanted it to be as close to original as possible for the used consoles as well. the game not working is a crapshoot unless its very visibly scratched up or something there's not a way to test the game before accepting as trade. this just seemed like workers didnt care about the process at all and just took it because they needed trade ins which is also a weird number to put on a store.
Doesn't that Vita have a screen protector on it?
I noticed the same thing, but there is still no excuse for Gamestop to send it out to a customer in the shape like that.
This is actually diabolical. Also somebody got themselves a PS3 and a PSVita for the cost of an Amiibo. It's quite obvious that they simply just put the wrong label on the box.
