My ancestors were Lombard. They didn't like the fact that Lombardy left Austria to be annexed to Italy. Very few people from their city fought on the side of the Italians. Most people were on the side of the Austrians. This is a city in the Po valley. I hope South Tyrol gets one day its long deserved independence.

After the end of WW I, both Trento and South Tyrol were taken by Italy from the Austiran Empire. It is understandable that Trentino, being Italian-speaking, was taken over by Italy, but it was Not correct that Bolzano/Boetzen and South Tyrol part of the greater Tyrol was taken, since the people are 90% German speaking and should be part of Austria and their original Tyrol.. This type of anomaly should be corrected in a united Europe. For English speakers, I would like to point out that the music whistled by the boy and played by the band is the old Austrian Kaiserhymne or national anthem of the Habsburgs and was composed by the very great Franz Joseph Haydn in 1794. The music is used presently by Germany, since it was originally composed for the Habsburg emperor Franz of the Holy Roman Empire of the German People, which included, before 1806, what is now Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and what is now western Poland. Since the Habsburgs were turned out in 1918, unfortunately, the national anthem of Austria was changed, and the Germans picked it up with other words.

Der Wirt war erstaunlicherweise sofort im Bilde: Das ist doch DDR. Ja, das war's. Wir waren alle nicht lange vorher von dort gekommen, besonders beeindruckte die Tiroler ein Fluchtweg über See nach Dänemark. As an Italian I support the German people of the Tyrol area. I would gladly let them leave and join with the German people. I have no hatred towards the German people and call many my ally. Tyrol to the German people Corsica and the Dalmation coast to Italy. Western Turkey back to Greece along with Cyprus if the Cypriots agree of course.

Ich gebe zu, Istrien ist nicht kroatischen, aber es ist nicht italienisch weder, ersten Siedler in Istrien nach Römischen Reich waren Slovenes.And Dalmatien gehört zu Kroatien, wurde es von den Kroaten in der 6. century.Venedigen habe es im 15. Jahrhundert erobert aber Kroaten kehrte sie zurück.Das war das erste Mal, Dalmatien war unter Italien (Venedige) und das letzte Mal war, nachdem ww1 wenn Italienern besetzt, während Kroatien nicht über eine Armee und dann haben wir es wieder im Jahr 1943. und so ist es heute. Und Südtirol ist Deutsch!!! :))

1382 è l'anno della 2° dedizione all'Austria di Trieste, la prima era del 1364 ed era contemporanea alla data in cui Trento divenne ufficialmente austriaca. Ma altre terre come Gorizia erano Imperiali da molto prima, oltre 800 anni. La seconda data è quella del filmato originale, il centocinquantesimo dell'unità d'Italia che non riguarda certo le "terre irredente" perchè nel 1860 erano ancora felicemente austriache.

Sorry...but this doesn't clash with what i originally meant: those signs are witnesses of the past, widespread all over Italy (hence is Südtyrol as well). What I meant is you do not find many countries allowing such a vaste use of a "foreign" language and habits within its boundaries. Or can you offer any other example? Also, if you go to Rijeka, Croatia you find manholes in Hungarian language, but this doesn't make it a symbol of oppression to the croats..
As a "neutral" foreigner & visitor/tourist to the South Tyrloean area IMHO Italy has done a great & respectful job in granting a significant amount of autonomy to the region and to its costumes. I have travelled across Europe and cannot recall having found a similar wardship anywhere else. Italy was amongst WWI winners and took part (a small one indeed..) of the cake, but again I think they did it with an utmost respect - just that vaste allowance of the ger. language is a great achievement 2me.
Have you never heard about Mussolini and the italian fascists from 1922 -1945. They treat german speaking tirolians very brutal like second class citizens in their own South Tirol. And Mussolini and the italian fascists and their crimes agaist other humans in WWII is nothing to be proud of. Remember that Mussolini was bestfriend with Adolf Hitler.

Franz II stand dem "Staatskörper des deutschen Reiches" vor. Steht eindeutig in der Abdankungserklärung von 1806. Lies es bitte nach. Franz II war letzter römisch-deutscher Kaiser des Altreiches.

Consider this. The 'state', and by extention the 'nation state' was never much about uniting people of a common language and culture. This object is tertiary to, at least, two other purposes; that of uniting the lands of people who owned a strategic interest in their state, and that of maintaining a balance of power in its region/world. Italy, like all other countries (Israel too), gained its unity because the powers of Europe, minus Austria, but including Prussia, wanted this. (end of pt. 1)
As an economist, I would add an economic analysis to the topic, ideologies aside. South Tyrol after WWII is an example of a success story. Thanks to the huge investment made in this part of the Country as a crossway between Germany and Northern Italy throughout the Brenner corridor, what was one one the poorest regions of Europe became one of the richest in the continent. Poverty has declined and the standard of living has risen continuously. GDP per capita is higher than that of North Tyrol (43400 vs 40200 euros per person) and unemployment is astounishingly low at 3.5% (2016 data). That put the South Tyroleans among the richest Austrians/Germans (N. Tyrol is one of the richest regions in Austria). Furthermore environment has been taken into account much more than in other regions with eco friendly buildings and infrastructures. People are well educated and firms can hire people that are usually able to speak two very important languages in Europe as almost native tongues: German, important for the central european market and Italian for the fashion, cuisine, luxury, tourism and charm (I think only the Swiss can count on a such similar situation). People have the possibility to attend universities in the German and Italian part of Europe. Being associated with the Germans is a synonim of efficiency whereas Italian with charm, wine, tourism, joie the vivre, history and beautifulness. This contributes to the Economy. Being part of Italy has benefitted South Tyrol enormously: it can count both on a 90% retain on taxes, high level of welfare and on an "Italian image" instead of an "Austrian" internationally, with all of its Mediterranean and wonderful wine/cuisine/dolce vita etc, things that others part of Austria cannot count as a tourism destination that as a consequence is countinuosly rising. It is not all Gold: the authonomy has given to the region the permission to retain really too much money comparing with the neighbouring regions. As a result, too much money leads to the waste of it (regions like North Tyrol or Lombardy and Veneto waste much less and are really more efficient than Trentino or South Tyrol, but they have to pay much more to either Vienna of Rome). Also, really too much money goes to the politicians to sustain ideologies instead of the economy. That is one of the downsides of the Authonomy: a lack of an effective provincial government control and coordination policies. At present Sudtirol is seen as an example from an economic point of view and a really lucky one. Every change from the current situation could lead to a decrease in the standard of living for them (either joining Austria or losing authonomy to the government of Italy). South Tyroleans, in my opinion, have to consider what suits best for them. Cheers

Nel Canto 20 dell'Inferno, Dante Alighieri dichiara che il lago di Garda era il confino tra Alemannia e l'Italia. Oltre il lago stavano i Tirolesi. Pregasi di controllare, non è difficile trovare il canto 20 su Google.

Se qualcuno mi chiede se il Sudtirolo sia di impronta tedesca non posso che rispondere in modo affermativo.Alla comunità tedescofona della provincia di Bolzano però suggerisco maggior compostezza.Capisco che non faccia piacere essere annessi ad un paese straniero ma è anche venuta l'ora di finirla con piagnistei che durano un secolo...Praticamente le tasse rimangono sul territorio e la lingua e la cultura tedesche vengono tutelate alla perfezione.Il vittimismo della popolazione austro-tirolese è insopportabile specie se la situazione di questa comunità viene paragonata a quella degli Italiani d'Istria che hanno subito foibe ed esilio...

Italy argued that it had historic ties to 'South Tyrol', and to other areas they considered 'italianate', like Dalmatia (more 'Austrian' territory). The new Germany, did the same with territory to it's East, and had little quams in maintaining and persueing Slavic speaking territories. War (ww1 & 2), which is never totally just, has moved these territories to what they are today, moved again by balance of power. Hoch als Herrscher, hoch als Weiser steht er in des Ruhmes Glanz. Liebe windet Lorbeerreiser ihm zu ewig grünem Kranz. Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser, unsern guten Kaiser Franz!" Als dann zu dem Text von Fallersleben eine Melodie gesucht wurde, wurde die Melodie der Kaiserhymne genommen. Also ist es nicht nur die Deutsche Hymne.

Gespielt wird die alte KuK Hymne mit dem Text: Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser..., zu der Zeit wurde im Deutschen Reich auf die (englische, wahrscheinlich von einem Franzosen komponierte) Melodie "Heil dir im Siegerkranz" gesungen. Die Musik hatte die europäische Idee vorweggenommen.
Stessa cosa in Valle d'Aosta, in un locale dove ero stato invitato da alcuni Valdostani. Un tizio accese una sigaretta e un suo amico gli disse in italiano: guarda che c'è il cartello non fumare. L'altro rispose in italiano: è in italiano quindi non capisco! Le lingue dovrebbero essere un valore aggiunto alla cultura di una terra e non una stupida idea nazionalista

Many people claim that south Tyrol is not Italy because it's inhabited by Germans but it's completely bs. In the past South Tyrol was inhabited by romance people, then they were outnumbered by German immigrants during the later stages of the austro Hungarian empire. Dante Alighieri who is one of the first to develop the concept of a unified Italy stated that Italy starts on the Brenner pass in the north, and the very same Goethe said that Italy begins there since it's from that point that people can't speak German anymore and speak Italian dialects

In fin dei conti lasciare il Sud Tirolo all'Austria non è poi una scelta scellerata. Hanno una cultura totalmente diversa da noi italiani e sinceramente fanno bene a non sentirsi italiani. L'annessione all'Austria può solo portare vantaggi a tutti e due i popoli, loro per trovare la loro identità e noi italiani per mettere fine a questi privilegi.

Sopratutto per motivi legati alla storia e tradizioni dell'Alto Adige, dalla conquista del Regno d'Italia a quello che ha dovuto subire negli anni del fascismo. Io sono anche favorevole ad una annessione del SudTirolo all'Austria, più che altro per una questione culturale e di territorio, nonostante potrei rimpiangere posti favolosi e gente meravigliosa con un forte attaccamento alle proprie tradizioni. Per privilegio si intende vantaggio particolare di cui gode una persona o un gruppo di persone. In questa fattispecie si parla di privilegio economico. Non è un privilegio trattenere le tasse pagate da voi trentini e tenerle per il vostro territorio? Si parla di quasi il 90% delle tasse, mentre altre regioni quali ad esempio la Lombardia, Piemonte e Veneto che sono quelle più produttive in termini di PIL sono continuamente strozzate da regioni dove sprechi e criminalità sono a livelli altissimi? Non che le regioni sopracitate siano immuni da questa "malattia" ma qualche grossa differenza rispetto alla Calabria credo che ci sia. Per favore, quando vi dicono che siete privilegiati nei confronti di noi altri italiani, non offendetevi perché è cosi. Punto. Giratela come volete ma godete di molti più benefici economici e amministrativi di altre regioni d'Italia. Appunto per questo vi hanno dato la vostra (quasi) indipendenza economica e amministrativa.
Claudio Ghilardi chiedo venia forse ho esagerato. si ho capito cosa intendi però come testimoniato dal fatto che anche un altro utente non ha capito bene quando parli di privilegi ti ribadisco che non è un privilegio il nostro. l'autogoverno amministrativo è una nostra particolarità territoriale che dura da 800 anni. se ti informi su libri e rete troverai tanti dati disponibili per tutti che spiegano bene. 800 anni di autogoverno ha sviluppato in noi un sentimento di attaccamento al territorio, di heimat che deriva dal fatto che il nostro territorio tutto è la nostra CASA. per noi non è concepibile sversare i rifiuti nel nostro ambiente e poi appiccargli il fuoco, non è concepibile costruire abusivamente interi rioni, paesi e città in barba ad ogni buon senso riguardo a dissesto idrogeologico ma anche rispetto ad un puro fatto estetico. le nostre montagne e laghi e prati sono tenuti puliti ed in ordine a differenza di tante coste e spiaggie del sud italia che potrebbero essere altrettanto belle se non fossero piene di immondizie se non di inquinanti. il nostro territorio è la nostra ricchezza e non è delocalizzabile e cerchiamo di valorizzarlo e non di degradarlo come si fa in gran parte d'italia, guarda anche solo la pianura padana....è ormai un agglomerato ininterrotto di capannoni commerciali e industrie. siamo e ci consideriamo i custodi di qualche cosa che passeremo ai nostri figli e questa mentalità è radicata in noi da generazioni. durante la prima guerra mondiale la mia famiglia ha perso tutto, casa terreni devastati e bruciati ed anni di deportazione nei campi di concentramento italiani in liguria. i miei nonni e bisnonni hanno combattuto contro l'italia insieme ad altri 60000 trentini ( 1/4 della popolazione) 11000 di loro sono morti. e quando si è potuto rientrare alle proprie case non c'era più nulla nemmeno un muro od uno degli alberi delle nostre foreste in piedi e l'italia non ha mandato nessun organo di protezione civile ad aiutarci. siamo stati estromessi da tanti posti pubblici locali per vederci piazzati immigrati che il fascismo ha spedito appositamente per spostare gli equilibri etnici ma con fatiche spaventose abbiamo ricostruito tutto e con più fatica visto che le nostre valli sono più ripide e inacessibili di quelle del resto italia e mentre in sicilia ci sono ancora le baracche per il terremoto di messina del 1908 noi siamo diventati la regione con la popolazione più ricca d'italia senza ricevere una lira da roma che ha solo pensato a succhiare tutta l'energia elettrica dalle dighe del nostro territorio e che riforniscono la totalità delle industrie del nord . quindi ti invito solo a riconsiderare quel termine: privilegio. non ha senso definire così la nostra autonomia ammenochè non si cerchi lo scontro. se si cerca questo lo si troverà di sicuro perché molti di noi non permetteranno mai a nessuno di venire a dirci cosa dobbiamo fare a casa nostra, i tanti patrioti per la liberazione sudtirolese negli anni 60/70 lo hanno dimostrato ampliamente. saluti

Quindi dimostri di non sapere una cippa di come funzionano le regioni a statuto speciale, tra cui figurano anche Sicilia, Sardegna, valle d Aosta, Friuli Venezia Giulia. La gestione dei servizi al cittadino sono interamente di RESPONSABILITÀ e gestite dalla provincia, usiamo il 73% delle NOSTRE tasse versate. Quindi non prendiamo soldi a nessuno, anzi, il restante 27% che resta a Roma è comunque più delle tasse versate di Basilicata e Molise. Il nostro tasso d evasione fiscale è del 2%. Ci autogestiamo da 1000 anni più o meno, mai chiesto soldi a nessuno.

Pero' sono state le guerre che hanno modellato i confini, sarebbe ridicolo chiedere indietro ad esempio ISTRIA e DALMAZIA dove c'è una forte presenza ''italiana'' da sempre. Lo stato italiano alla fine ha garantito l'autonomia e il bilinguismo a questa gente e mi pare che, alla fine, sono stati trattati più che bene consentendo la difesa delle proprie identità culturali al popolo sud tirolese. Italy, now a country, wants to justify itself by gaining lands which are seen to be in its interest strategically. Justification includes natural borders, strategically important lands, proximity to large markets (German/French, etc.) cities, and, of course, culture. The Austrian Habsbergs and predecessors, in their time, made a fortune by obtaining land which weren't German(ic). Then, with the 19th century romantic (always self-serving) mentality, culture became a way of pushing bounderies.

Sono proprio i tedeschi in realtà ad aver molto di romano e di greco, e per volontà loro propria. Già nel 1200, quando lungo il Reno i domenicani avevano il monopolio della cultura, i tedeschi del posto erano convinti che in quel fossero emigrati antichi greci (lo racconta il generale dei domenicani Eckhart von Hochheim nel suo commento al vangelo di Giovanni). E credevano di essere loro discendenti !
Mi scusi ma il bilinguismo significa che nelle scuole si insegnano enrtambe le lingue e che le lingue sono parificate, cioè che tutti i funzionari devono conoscerle entrambe e che tutti i documenti sono bilingui. Non è questo il caso del Südtirol e non esiste nessun bilinguismo in alcuna parte d'Italia.

They were always Germans and were guardians of borders of Europe as Germans and the heirs of Holy Roman Empire as Germans. Now they werent initialy part of same unification process altough they did manage to unify later on.HIstoricaly the separation of Germans has only been used by enemies of whole Germans to weak them.

i am north tyrolean. and whenever i pass the brenner border, my heart is bleeding. but also i think, there is nothing wrong with parts of tyrol belonging to italia. i wish, tirol was united only. if the italians treat them with respect and respect the tyrolean culture and traditions there is nothing wrong. the problem was, that the nation state of italy didnt do that until the ~ 1980s. so there was strife and fighting and tirolese terror acts. naturally. you cant surpress a people for nearly a century. this will naturally lead to resistance. now italy is doing it right, and in the last 40-30 years they won the hearts of south tiroleans. and so it is ok for me. 2000 years ago, all of tirol was part of the roman empire - and that was ok. because rome respected our ethnicity, our culture and traditions. so why not be part of the empire ? the only sad thing is, that italy took 50 years to find this out. and to be honest: i like italy a lot, but half of italy doesnt want to be part of it. drive downwards from tirol and you find the "veneto stato". i was in sardinia and there you see thousands of graffitis telling "sardinia no est italia". kalabrians ate a different breed anyways, and a lot of people further down south wish back the kingdom of the two sicilis and think the risorgimento was a big mistake. so what is italia ? a wild mixture of people and dialects, that could each be a separate language. and there is nothing wrong with tirol being part of it, if they just respect us in rome. i even would join italia as north tirolean. they just need to accept us, as who we are.
Hello Sven, Thank you for your really equilibrate and respectful opinion. I am from Rome, and I love Südtirol and the culture you find there. I love that it is still possible to find a culture identity there, that has not become fake by the tourism. As Italian I feel ashamed for how the nation tried to distroy that culture during the fascism. Italy, as you said, is a puzzle of different cultures and traditions. As a puzzle they can fit together. It's an incredible situation of richness, in my opinion. All the culters, dialects, languages, traditions, can be protected, and they can give their contribution to the nation.

My ancestors were Lombard. They didn't like the fact that Lombardy left Austria to be annexed to Italy. Very few people from their city fought on the side of the Italians. Most people were on the side of the Austrians. This is a city in the Po valley. I hope South Tyrol gets one day its long deserved independence.

After the end of WW I, both Trento and South Tyrol were taken by Italy from the Austiran Empire. It is understandable that Trentino, being Italian-speaking, was taken over by Italy, but it was Not correct that Bolzano/Boetzen and South Tyrol part of the greater Tyrol was taken, since the people are 90% German speaking and should be part of Austria and their original Tyrol..
This type of anomaly should be corrected in a united Europe.
For English speakers, I would like to point out that the music whistled by the boy and played by the band is the old Austrian Kaiserhymne or national anthem of the Habsburgs and was composed by the very great Franz Joseph Haydn in 1794.
The music is used presently by Germany, since it was originally composed for the Habsburg emperor Franz of the Holy Roman Empire of the German People, which included, before 1806, what is now Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and what is now western Poland.
Since the Habsburgs were turned out in 1918, unfortunately, the national anthem of Austria was changed, and the Germans picked it up with other words.

1982 in einer Pension in Südtirol, im Etschtal. Einer von uns fragte an der Rezeption, ob er von dort nach Greifswald telefonieren könnte. Der Wirt war erstaunlicherweise sofort im Bilde: Das ist doch DDR. Ja, das war's. Wir waren alle nicht lange vorher von dort gekommen, besonders beeindruckte die Tiroler ein Fluchtweg über See nach Dänemark.
Als wir dann das auch in Greifswald bekannte "Zu Mantua in Banden..." sangen, da rückten wir von Gästen zu Freunden auf.
Südtirol ist mir als gesegnetes Land in Erinnerung.

As an Italian I support the German people of the Tyrol area. I would gladly let them leave and join with the German people. I have no hatred towards the German people and call many my ally. Ich gebe zu, Istrien ist nicht kroatischen, aber es ist nicht italienisch weder, ersten Siedler in Istrien nach Römischen Reich waren Slovenes.And Dalmatien gehört zu Kroatien, wurde es von den Kroaten in der 6. century.Venedigen habe es im 15. Jahrhundert erobert aber Kroaten kehrte sie zurück.Das war das erste Mal, Dalmatien war unter Italien (Venedige) und das letzte Mal war, nachdem ww1 wenn Italienern besetzt, während Kroatien nicht über eine Armee und dann haben wir es wieder im Jahr 1943. und so ist es heute. Und Südtirol ist Deutsch!!! :))

1382 è l'anno della 2° dedizione all'Austria di Trieste, la prima era del 1364 ed era contemporanea alla data in cui Trento divenne ufficialmente austriaca. Ma altre terre come Gorizia erano Imperiali da molto prima, oltre 800 anni. La seconda data è quella del filmato originale, il centocinquantesimo dell'unità d'Italia che non riguarda certo le "terre irredente" perchè nel 1860 erano ancora felicemente austriache.

Sorry...but this doesn't clash with what i originally meant: those signs are witnesses of the past, widespread all over Italy (hence is Südtyrol as well). What I meant is you do not find many countries allowing such a vaste use of a "foreign" language and habits within its boundaries. Or can you offer any other example?
Also, if you go to Rijeka, Croatia you find manholes in Hungarian language, but this doesn't make it a symbol of oppression to the croats..
As a "neutral" foreigner & visitor/tourist to the South Tyrloean area IMHO Italy has done a great & respectful job in granting a significant amount of autonomy to the region and to its costumes. I have travelled across Europe and cannot recall having found a similar wardship anywhere else. Italy was amongst WWI winners and took part (a small one indeed..) of the cake, but again I think they did it with an utmost respect - just that vaste allowance of the ger. language is a great achievement 2me.
Have you never heard about Mussolini and the italian fascists from 1922 -1945. They treat german speaking tirolians very brutal like second class citizens in their own South Tirol. And Mussolini and the italian fascists and their crimes agaist other humans in WWII is nothing to be proud of. Remember that Mussolini was bestfriend with Adolf Hitler.

Consider this. The 'state', and by extention the 'nation state' was never much about uniting people of a common language and culture. This object is tertiary to, at least, two other purposes; that of uniting the lands of people who owned a strategic interest in their state, and that of maintaining a balance of power in its region/world. Italy, like all other countries (Israel too), gained its unity because the powers of Europe, minus Austria, but including Prussia, wanted this. (end of pt. 1)
As an economist, I would add an economic analysis to the topic, ideologies aside.
South Tyrol after WWII is an example of a success story. Thanks to the huge investment made in this part of the Country as a crossway between Germany and Northern Italy throughout the Brenner corridor, what was one one the poorest regions of Europe became one of the richest in the continent. Poverty has declined and the standard of living has risen continuously. GDP per capita is higher than that of North Tyrol (43400 vs 40200 euros per person) and unemployment is astounishingly low at 3.5% (2016 data). That put the South Tyroleans among the richest Austrians/Germans (N. Tyrol is one of the richest regions in Austria).
Furthermore environment has been taken into account much more than in other regions with eco friendly buildings and infrastructures. People are well educated and firms can hire people that are usually able to speak two very important languages in Europe as almost native tongues: German, important for the central european market and Italian for the fashion, cuisine, luxury, tourism and charm (I think only the Swiss can count on a such similar situation). People have the possibility to attend universities in the German and Italian part of Europe. Being associated with the Germans is a synonim of efficiency whereas Italian with charm, wine, tourism, joie the vivre, history and beautifulness. This contributes to the Economy.
Being part of Italy has benefitted South Tyrol enormously: it can count both on a 90% retain on taxes, high level of welfare and on an "Italian image" instead of an "Austrian" internationally, with all of its Mediterranean and wonderful wine/cuisine/dolce vita etc, things that others part of Austria cannot count as a tourism destination that as a consequence is countinuosly rising.
It is not all Gold: the authonomy has given to the region the permission to retain really too much money comparing with the neighbouring regions. As a result, too much money leads to the waste of it (regions like North Tyrol or Lombardy and Veneto waste much less and are really more efficient than Trentino or South Tyrol, but they have to pay much more to either Vienna of Rome). Also, really too much money goes to the politicians to sustain ideologies instead of the economy. That is one of the downsides of the Authonomy: a lack of an effective provincial government control and coordination policies.
At present Sudtirol is seen as an example from an economic point of view and a really lucky one. Every change from the current situation could lead to a decrease in the standard of living for them (either joining Austria or losing authonomy to the government of Italy).
South Tyroleans, in my opinion, have to consider what suits best for them. Cheers

Se qualcuno mi chiede se il Sudtirolo sia di impronta tedesca non posso che rispondere in modo affermativo.Alla comunità tedescofona della provincia di Bolzano però suggerisco maggior compostezza.Capisco che non faccia piacere essere annessi ad un paese straniero ma è anche venuta l'ora di finirla con piagnistei che durano un secolo...Praticamente le tasse rimangono sul territorio e la lingua e la cultura tedesche vengono tutelate alla perfezione.Il vittimismo della popolazione austro-tirolese è insopportabile specie se la situazione di questa comunità viene paragonata a quella degli Italiani d'Istria che hanno subito foibe ed esilio...

Italy argued that it had historic ties to 'South Tyrol', and to other areas they considered 'italianate', like Dalmatia (more 'Austrian' territory). The new Germany, did the same with territory to it's East, and had little quams in maintaining and persueing Slavic speaking territories. Gespielt wird die alte KuK Hymne mit dem Text: Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser..., zu der Zeit wurde im Deutschen Reich auf die (englische, wahrscheinlich von einem Franzosen komponierte) Melodie "Heil dir im Siegerkranz" gesungen. Die Musik hatte die europäische Idee vorweggenommen.
Stessa cosa in Valle d'Aosta, in un locale dove ero stato invitato da alcuni Valdostani. Un tizio accese una sigaretta e un suo amico gli disse in italiano: guarda che c'è il cartello non fumare. L'altro rispose in italiano: è in italiano quindi non capisco!
Le lingue dovrebbero essere un valore aggiunto alla cultura di una terra e non una stupida idea nazionalista

In the past South Tyrol was inhabited by romance people, then they were outnumbered by German immigrants during the later stages of the austro Hungarian empire. Dante Alighieri who is one of the first to develop the concept of a unified Italy stated that Italy starts on the Brenner pass in the north, and the very same Goethe said that Italy begins there since it's from that point that people can't speak German anymore and speak Italian dialects

In fin dei conti lasciare il Sud Tirolo all'Austria non è poi una scelta scellerata. Hanno una cultura totalmente diversa da noi italiani e sinceramente fanno bene a non sentirsi italiani. L'annessione all'Austria può solo portare vantaggi a tutti e due i popoli, loro per trovare la loro identità e noi italiani per mettere fine a questi privilegi.

esatto non c'è nessun privilegio nella regione autonoma. non un euro viene versato dallo stato alle nostre due provincie. tutti i servizi sono pagati con i soldi delle nostre tasse. lo stato paga solo esercito( tenetevelo ce lo facciamo da soli con i nostri mezzi) polizia e C:C (teneteveli ce lo facciamo da soli con i nostri mezzi) e magistratura (teneteveli ce lo facciamo da soli con i nostri mezzi). se ti sei appena svegliato dal tuo torpore e hai visto una trasmissione di vespa ti invito a lasciar perdere questa discussione perché non sei in grado semplicemente di argomentare. se proprio vuoi partecipare alla discussione informati perbene e capirai e poi ci risentiamo. non è possibile continuar a sentire pareri di ignoranti (nel senso che non sanno...) patentati che mandano continuamente in vacca discussioni tra persone che magari la pensano diversamente (autonomista contro nazionalista ad esempio) ma che almeno hanno una minima idea di ciò che dicono

Per privilegio si intende vantaggio particolare di cui gode una persona o un gruppo di persone. In questa fattispecie si parla di privilegio economico. Si parla di quasi il 90% delle tasse, mentre altre regioni quali ad esempio la Lombardia, Piemonte e Veneto che sono quelle più produttive in termini di PIL sono continuamente strozzate da regioni dove sprechi e criminalità sono a livelli altissimi? Non che le regioni sopracitate siano immuni da questa "malattia" ma qualche grossa differenza rispetto alla Calabria credo che ci sia. Per favore, quando vi dicono che siete privilegiati nei confronti di noi altri italiani, non offendetevi perché è cosi. Punto. Giratela come volete ma godete di molti più benefici economici e amministrativi di altre regioni d'Italia. Appunto per questo vi hanno dato la vostra (quasi) indipendenza economica e amministrativa.
Claudio Ghilardi chiedo venia forse ho esagerato. si ho capito cosa intendi però come testimoniato dal fatto che anche un altro utente non ha capito bene quando parli di privilegi ti ribadisco che non è un privilegio il nostro. l'autogoverno amministrativo è una nostra particolarità territoriale che dura da 800 anni. se ti informi su libri e rete troverai tanti dati disponibili per tutti che spiegano bene. 800 anni di autogoverno ha sviluppato in noi un sentimento di attaccamento al territorio, di heimat che deriva dal fatto che il nostro territorio tutto è la nostra CASA. per noi non è concepibile sversare i rifiuti nel nostro ambiente e poi appiccargli il fuoco, non è concepibile costruire abusivamente interi rioni, paesi e città in barba ad ogni buon senso riguardo a dissesto idrogeologico ma anche rispetto ad un puro fatto estetico. le nostre montagne e laghi e prati sono tenuti puliti ed in ordine a differenza di tante coste e spiaggie del sud italia che potrebbero essere altrettanto belle se non fossero piene di immondizie se non di inquinanti. il nostro territorio è la nostra ricchezza e non è delocalizzabile e cerchiamo di valorizzarlo e non di degradarlo come si fa in gran parte d'italia, guarda anche solo la pianura padana....è ormai un agglomerato ininterrotto di capannoni commerciali e industrie. siamo e ci consideriamo i custodi di qualche cosa che passeremo ai nostri figli e questa mentalità è radicata in noi da generazioni. durante la prima guerra mondiale la mia famiglia ha perso tutto, casa terreni devastati e bruciati ed anni di deportazione nei campi di concentramento italiani in liguria. i miei nonni e bisnonni hanno combattuto contro l'italia insieme ad altri 60000 trentini ( 1/4 della popolazione) 11000 di loro sono morti. e quando si è potuto rientrare alle proprie case non c'era più nulla nemmeno un muro od uno degli alberi delle nostre foreste in piedi e l'italia non ha mandato nessun organo di protezione civile ad aiutarci. siamo stati estromessi da tanti posti pubblici locali per vederci piazzati immigrati che il fascismo ha spedito appositamente per spostare gli equilibri etnici ma con fatiche spaventose abbiamo ricostruito tutto e con più fatica visto che le nostre valli sono più ripide e inacessibili di quelle del resto italia e mentre in sicilia ci sono ancora le baracche per il terremoto di messina del 1908 noi siamo diventati la regione con la popolazione più ricca d'italia senza ricevere una lira da roma che ha solo pensato a succhiare tutta l'energia elettrica dalle dighe del nostro territorio e che riforniscono la totalità delle industrie del nord . quindi ti invito solo a riconsiderare quel termine: privilegio. non ha senso definire così la nostra autonomia ammenochè non si cerchi lo scontro. se si cerca questo lo si troverà di sicuro perché molti di noi non permetteranno mai a nessuno di venire a dirci cosa dobbiamo fare a casa nostra, i tanti patrioti per la liberazione sudtirolese negli anni 60/70 lo hanno dimostrato ampliamente. saluti

Parlando con amici austriaci di Ganz in ferie tutti gli anni in Puglia, alla mia domanda :" per voi i sud tirolesi cosa sono ?" La risposta "ne carne ne pesce" e ad un'altra domanda prendereste in considerazione l'annessione del sud Tirolo? Risposta :" a patto che rinuncino alle prebende che da lo stato italiano "

Quindi dimostri di non sapere una cippa di come funzionano le regioni a statuto speciale, tra cui figurano anche Sicilia, Sardegna, valle d Aosta, Friuli Venezia Giulia. La gestione dei servizi al cittadino sono interamente di RESPONSABILITÀ e gestite dalla provincia, usiamo il 73% delle NOSTRE tasse versate. Quindi non prendiamo soldi a nessuno, anzi, il restante 27% che resta a Roma è comunque più delle tasse versate di Basilicata e Molise. Il nostro tasso d evasione fiscale è del 2%. Ci autogestiamo da 1000 anni più o meno, mai chiesto soldi a nessuno.

Capisco il loro punto di vista, loro non sono italiani e hanno le loro ragioni. Pero' sono state le guerre che hanno modellato i confini, sarebbe ridicolo chiedere indietro ad esempio ISTRIA e DALMAZIA dove c'è una forte presenza ''italiana'' da sempre. Lo stato italiano alla fine ha garantito l'autonomia e il bilinguismo a questa gente e mi pare che, alla fine, sono stati trattati più che bene consentendo la difesa delle proprie identità culturali al popolo sud tirolese. Non mi sembra giusto invece sputare addosso ad una nazione che, nonostante abbia il sacrosanto diritto (sancito nel corso della storia) di reclamare ''sue'' quelle terre, consente ed addirittura difende le proprie differenze culturali presenti all'interno del suo territorio.

Senza arrivare troppo indietro nel tempo (potremmo parlare dell'antica Roma), non si può negare che il Sud Tirolo è una terra meravigliosa, ben curata ed amministrata e peraltro ci vado spesso e con piacere a soggiornare da quasi 50 anni. Comprendo anche che le popolazioni di lingua tedesca non siano poi così contente di essere stati "annessi" all'Italia visto come ce la passiamo. Sono proprio i tedeschi in realtà ad aver molto di romano e di greco, e per volontà loro propria. Già nel 1200, quando lungo il Reno i domenicani avevano il monopolio della cultura, i tedeschi del posto erano convinti che in quel fossero emigrati antichi greci (lo racconta il generale dei domenicani Eckhart von Hochheim nel suo commento al vangelo di Giovanni). E credevano di essere loro discendenti !
Mi scusi ma il bilinguismo significa che nelle scuole si insegnano enrtambe le lingue e che le lingue sono parificate, cioè che tutti i funzionari devono conoscerle entrambe e che tutti i documenti sono bilingui. Non è questo il caso del Südtirol e non esiste nessun bilinguismo in alcuna parte d'Italia.

I was speaking on what I know of history you can paint as you like but Austrians were and are Germans. What you suposed they speak what is their culture? They were always Germans and were guardians of borders of Europe as Germans and the heirs of Holy Roman Empire as Germans. Now they werent initialy part of same unification process altough they did manage to unify later on.HIstoricaly the separation of Germans has only been used by enemies of whole Germans to weak them.

L' Alto Adige non c'è riuscito negli anni 60 (ci è toccato fare un pò di guardie ai tralicci ma tant'è) dubito potrà farcela in futuro. Non è che i due Tirolo abbiano un gran peso economico e , tanto meno politico , ne in Italia ne in Austria e "de facto" nullo in Europa.

i am north tyrolean. and whenever i pass the brenner border, my heart is bleeding.
but also i think, there is nothing wrong with parts of tyrol belonging to italia. i wish, tirol was united only.
if the italians treat them with respect and respect the tyrolean culture and traditions there is nothing wrong.
the problem was, that the nation state of italy didnt do that until the ~ 1980s.
so there was strife and fighting and tirolese terror acts. naturally. you cant surpress a people for nearly a century. this will naturally lead to resistance.
now italy is doing it right, and in the last 40-30 years they won the hearts of south tiroleans.
and so it is ok for me.
2000 years ago, all of tirol was part of the roman empire - and that was ok. because rome respected our ethnicity, our culture and traditions. so why not be part of the empire ?
the only sad thing is, that italy took 50 years to find this out.
and to be honest: i like italy a lot, but half of italy doesnt want to be part of it.
drive downwards from tirol and you find the "veneto stato". i was in sardinia and there you see thousands of graffitis telling "sardinia no est italia". kalabrians ate a different breed anyways, and a lot of people further down south wish back the kingdom of the two sicilis and think the risorgimento was a big mistake.
so what is italia ?
a wild mixture of people and dialects, that could each be a separate language.
and there is nothing wrong with tirol being part of it, if they just respect us in rome.
i even would join italia as north tirolean. they just need to accept us, as who we are.

I am from Rome, and I love Südtirol and the culture you find there. I love that it is still possible to find a culture identity there, that has not become fake by the tourism.
As Italian I feel ashamed for how the nation tried to distroy that culture during the fascism.
Italy, as you said, is a puzzle of different cultures and traditions. As a puzzle they can fit together. It's an incredible situation of richness, in my opinion. All the culters, dialects, languages, traditions, can be protected, and they can give their contribution to the nation.

i think, the bad episode of italy towards tirolese was from 1919 to maybe 1970.
but then they understood and won the hearts of south tirolese people. nowadays, young south tiroleans feel as italians, they cheer for the squadra azurra, they even join the carabinieri (a generation ago, this would have been unthinkable, their parents would have called them traitors and exiled from home).
so this is really a big achievement by italy.
i think no other country in the history of mankind ever achieved to win the hearts, the trust and the loyalty of a conquered people.
